"What's so great about your power, anyway? You don't have anyone to protect at all." "You failed to evolve, Future Segunda." "Do you know why this family didn't work, Kuroi...? It's because you didn't invest your being into it...It takes more than your heart...It takes your very soul...." "I-I-I got you a present, Kuroi!" "I think you should be Primera, Boss!" "Eh? I'd be fucking sad if you died, Boss." "Well, uh, it's good to see you, Boss! Aha." "Tch. Long time no see, Boss." "Kuroi...what happened to you?" "Because when there is despair...YOU WANT REVENGE." "I'll follow you toward the goal, Boss." "Good work, Kuroi. Mission accomplished." "You're strong, Kuroi." "Wow, that's pretty amazing, Kuroi." "They rely on your leadership, Kuroi." "YOU DIDN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT US, KUROI!" "You bastard. Your comrades have all fallen, and you don't care." "Having a bond to protect makes you that much stronger."
Shut up...What do any of you know? Who are any of you to say that I never cared? Soldiers die. It happens. I established rules so that it wouldn't, and some of you broke my rules. Of course there would be casualties. What did you expect me to do about it? All of you know nothing...How dare you accuse me of not caring, when it was your own selfishness that pushed you to abandon me, and abandon my structure. How dare you smile at me, when it was you who chose to disappear without a trace for so long. What am I to do, if the first bonds I have ever truly formed as an Arrancar are simply taken away so easily? What am I to think, when for the first time I begin to feel happiness, only for it to be snatched away? Of course I would want to throw it all away. I am the one who inflicts Despair. To suffer it is unnecessary irony. Of course I would cast everything away.
Kuroi lay there, covered in injuries. He had many, and so did his opponent. He would venture to guess that both would die if they continued to stay there for much longer. On the other hand, perhaps this was defeat. Was this what it tasted like? Kuroi had never tasted a real, true defeat before. Adalo De-Mona had been successful in one round out of five, by sheer luck. Nishiru Tokoheita, once, had managed, only because Kuroi held back so as to allow the Fullbringer to rescue his princess. Grimoire Acero had outclassed a sealed Kuroi, but would it have been different if they'd released? No, there was no real defeat for Kuroi in his history up until now. It was an anomaly to him. He didn't understand the feeling. He may have missed it, but on second thought it was unnecessary. Kuroi had always been unbeatable until now. And now, instead of victory, he was being spared by an enemy.
Sozen could have killed Kuroi, but hadn't. And he went on and on in some monologue about how Kuroi could have done better had he fought for his bonds, rather than his rage. Of course Kuroi was careful about his bonds. He didn't just throw them away. He was more reserved about them because he had been hurt by them. Was that not to be expected? The Segunda had suddenly lost everything in the blink of an eye. Confused, alone, hurt, and filled with Despair, what could he turn to but his stoicism and his desire to plunge everything around him into that very same Despair? There was nothing for Kuroi except that goal, of bringing the world to a better place, or in other words paradise, and then plunging it back into hideous Despair, and making all feel true terror and agony. And why not have that goal? There was nothing better to do, if his bonds were to disappear as they had.
I'll fight you again any time, Kuroi. Was that so...? I see... Kuroi admitted to himself. Indeed, if they were to fight again, Sozen would no longer be capable of using these strategies. He had, in doing this, made a second victory against Kuroi impossible. If Kuroi were to attack Soul Society again, Sozen would die, and his family would as well, and he wouldn't be able to stop that because he had given away all of his cards here. So, then, why had he fought? In order to make this deal? To establish respect between the two of them? How ludicrous. How ridiculous. How amusing. "Very well." Kuroi agreed with Sozen. "I will accept your proposal. Next time, however, I will destroy you, and force you to retract that deal." This was something that Kuroi meant. It was his word, which he gave to Sozen.
"Therefore, don't lose until next time we face one another." Kuroi said. He was charging Sozen to never be defeated until next they battled. Because next time, Kuroi would win. Completely. That was going to be the end of Sozen's story. When Kuroi killed him in a final showdown. And why not? Was it not a good, admirable way of doing things? At any rate, it was time to leave. Kuroi was out of reiatsu, quite unfortunately, but he had a way still of getting away from this. Kuroi's limbs, having been regenerating this entire time, were fresh and new, and they allowed him to stand upright. As this happened, Kuroi opened his mouth, and inhaled reiatsu particles from the air with Gonzui. He needed to get to immediate medical attention. With a last look at his opponent, Kuroi activated Dorido, taking him immediately elsewhere. And in that flash of golden light, the Segunda was gone.
