These fallen Shinigami, who might once, had been source of pride to those they protected and served, were nothing more than shadows of their former selves. Mindlessly, despite the efforts of both the boy and the human, they trudged forward, unaware or unfazed by the danger. Kazuko could feel his heart tighten in his chest as he watched, with narrow eyes, as these ‘monsters’ took his attacks, but continued to fight unaffected. They had lost all semblance of what had been their spirit, and were now tools. Wordlessly, he cursed those who had inflicted such a fate on these spirits; no man deserved to have all they stood for in life crumble away under a life – no, existence – of slavery. Forget this artifact; the monsters that did this deserve to answer for their crimes! Though apathetic toward these former comrades, the boy nonetheless realized that the group would have to take more severe measures to put these monsters down for good. Kazuko lifted his arm, intending to use a higher level spell, but stopped short of finishing the incantation mentally when he felt a weight tug on his shoulders. Immediately, he realized what phenomenon was in play – as he had in his earlier days as an officer been on the receiving end of it many times – and cast his gaze down toward Anastasia. It seems like she wants to end this fight as soon as possible as well. I might have been wrong about her pride as a Shinigami after all.
With the gravitational pressure exerted, and their inferior level, Kazuko realized that these monsters were running on fumes so to speak. They had sacrificed the last bastion of their strength, using it to ward off the pressure, and embarked on one last desperate attempt to take either Elmas or Anastasia with them. Seeing the opening laid out by the female officer, the human pushed forward, with great speed and strength, back to Anastasia in the hopes of going airborne. Unfortunately, three of the former Shinigami moved to stop him; while one moved to hold him down, the other two made attempts to cut him down. Elmas seemed to ignore their attempts altogether, and instead continued, which meant that he intended to take their attacks and keep going. The first Shinigami that attempted to grapple him would, of course, be broken in the attempt; Elmas had shown great strength beforehand, so something as meek as a grapple would be more of an annoyance than a hindrance. For that reason, the Vice-Captain ignored subduing that opponent from his vantage point, and instead focused on the ones moving to cut the man. Even if their attacks were weak, and the Reiatsu from the human would likely deflect the damage, the boy was cautious not to let any in the group so much scruff their clothes this early in the mission.
With his arm still outstretched prior to the gravitational pressure being exerted, the boy lifted his index and his middle finger forward, and fired to spells from each end – Sho, to be exact. Both waves of force would hit both Shinigami from on either side of Elmas, and send them hurtling back while the third was plowed through by the man. With nothing slowing him down, the Vice-Captain hovered in the meantime, watching with softening eyes as he paid his respects to the crumbling Shinigami. With no Reiatsu left to resistance the pressure, each of the undead soon collapsed, and the trio descended back to the floor after that. These Shinigami were not dead, but they were incapable of movement nonetheless; Anastasia moved to pass her blade through their heads, giving them the rest they had been cheated. Kazuko did not join in. Instead, he watched as she finished the task at hand. These are merciful deaths. A comrade should not be forced to fight those whom they once served with, no matter if they had lost all rational thought. Finally, with the undead laid to rest, the diminutive Vice-Captain walked to each body and gathered any of the zanpakuto he could find. He laid them on the ground all aligned and pointing at the same direction. Kazuko unsheathed his weapon, and swung downward, his steel cutting through the blades of all the zanpakuto in the pile.
It was his duty as an officer to make sure that the zanpakuto were destroyed, if confiscating them was not a feasible option.
His gloomy mood was shattered as he heard, what was to his ears, glass breaking or nails on a chalk board; Anastasia, nonchalant as always, continued to chafe against his mood with her obnoxious attitude. If the walls were not so cold and hard, the boy might have actually smashed his head through one of them if it meant muffling her voice. “You don’t have to pretend to be my parents anymore, Anastasia.” The boy grumbled. “And if you want sugar, you’re better off buying it from a store than getting it from me.” He finished, his mood more irritated than downcast. Though, when she mentioned pinching his cheeks, Kazuko had to turn away slightly, his hand rising to guard his face, instinctually wary of her antics. How long do I have to live in fear!? Trying to forget about Anastasia, Kazuko moved next to Elmas, catching what he had to say about the Blessed Blade. The boy nodded in agreement with the human, taking note of the situation they had just come through. If these undead were stationed at the entrance of the temple, it meant that they had either been defeated here, or were moved here after finding their ends somewhere else. Whatever they were protecting was likely deeper within the chamber, where the real guardians lay… waiting.
“Though our tactics may differ, our goals do not. I agree with you Mr. Elmas. Whoever laid this trap for us will have to be dealt with one way or another… and made to answer for their crimes. Regardless, we should keep moving forward; if we encounter more resistance, we’ll know we’re heading in the right direction.” Kazuko said, his voice light and calm once more, like before he had entered the temple. He continued, “You should take point, Mr. Elmas, and lead us through the temple; your physical prowess will undoubtedly be of better use as a bulwark for the team and as a sword to cut through our enemies. Anastasia can hold the rear of our formation and provide support if needed while watching our backs; she might not act like it, but she has great knowledge on Kido. I’ll use air-ground and provide support and reconnaissance from above; my small body might get in the way of you two if we break into another brawl.” When he finished, the boy realized he had basically given both of his comrades’ orders. Not wanting to impose himself on them, as he knew he had a tendency to take command when left the chance, he finished, “Unless you two want to adjust our tactics? A team composed of officers such as this should not have to listen from only one input; now that we know each other sufficiently, we can make our plans together.”
