Physical Description: [At first glance, Iro does not appear to be a member of the nobility. Whereas the average nobility is softened by a pampered lifestyle, Iro is far from pampered in the least. Whereas most nobles are more pale skinned from a life lived indoors, Iro has a much more tanned color to his skin, and is skin is much more rugged from physical labor, unlike the smooth skinned nobles. His hands are rough from having many calluses due to holding and using farm tools for years. However, like nobility, Iro does keep careful care of his fingernails, keeping them trimmed and smooth, becoming a sharp contrast to his rough and torn hands. Looking beyond his rough skin and tanned complection, his nobility is much more visible.
Iro does work very hard to keep his appearance very well kept. In the world of politics, one’s appearance is your first impression, and your first impression can be the only thing between being successful and being a failure in the dog eat dog world. Being a militarily inclined man, he usually dresses in his Shinigami uniform, with the sleeves removed to highlight his buff physique, keeping it very clean and tidy when he will be in public. On the battlefield, all Hell could be unleashed on his uniform, and with his release it probably will, so he doesn’t care as much about his appearance. However, in a formal setting, he’s much cleaner and more reserved, forsaking his uniform for a much more sophisticated outfit.
In a formal setting, his military uniform is often not appropriate, thus he chooses clothing with a bit more class, as is typical of nobility. His favored garb is a pinstripe black suit not unlike those of the mid to late 1900s in the Land of the Living. In his suit pocket he usually carries a white handkerchief, purely for show, as well as a white rose, for reasons of his own. Underneath the jacket he wears a dress shirt and a simple black tie. The favorite piece of his to the formal outfit he wears is the pinstripe black fedora that he wears to compliment the suit and provide it with that extra oomph in style. The simple black dress shoes finish the formal wear nicely.
Whether he’s on the battlefield or in the ballroom, one thing generally remains constant. Iro likes to keep his face clean and his hair under control. His short black hair is slicked back and kept in place with a bit of gel, giving his hair a glossy shine to it. His eyes are a very light green color with flecks of brown throughout their entirety, a very curious and unique mixture of the colors. At a distance, the green and the brown blend together into one unique hue if one stands at least two feet away. The defining characteristic of his face is the jagged scar that stretches down his forehead and narrowly between his right eye and the bridge of his nose, the scar passing the corner of his mouth and disappearing off of the side of his face at the chin.
Iro’s reiatsu is quite unique, as it is tainted by the Land of the Living. If he is holding back his Spiritual Pressure, it isn’t visible, but when he exerts it the show really begins. It is a dark, cloudy reiatsu that pours off of his body and pools around his feet like an eerie mist. It creeps along the ground and coats it in a black, chalky like substance as it passes. When he is exerting his reiatsu, he almost appears as though he has just gotten out of a shower, as his hair seems wet and his body seems to be polished as with soap and water. To be honest, his reiatsu no longer appears very noble due to his long absence from the Soul Society, however as he is not, and will never be, the Head of the Kuchiki, he isn’t worried about how he looks in that regard.

Overall Personality: [Iro, at first glance, is a generally reserved soul. He doesn’t like to make waves, and prefers peace to conflict. He generally keeps to himself, reading or training, avoiding others when possible. This is mostly due to his long absence from the Soul Society, he just doesn’t feel a part of that world any more. In the presence of Spiritually aware humans, he feels much more at home and is more willing to open up and expose who he is. When people look at him, they generally see a closed book, giving up little of the minor, day to day emotions. He just goes about his day like there was nothing on his mind, nothing affecting him at all.
In actuality, Iro does get very passionate about things that are important to him, such as the defense of his new home and his cooking. He could drone on for hours about recipes and techniques to people who are willing to listen, or even to himself if there is no one around to talk to. He loves a good book, and would be more than willing to discuss literature with others, especially his well-read family member Hokori. When it comes to most people, however, he would be described as calm and even boring sometimes. When he finds something that he is passionate about, he doesn’t jump up and down, he doesn’t get overly excited, he doesn’t go around and bug people with his discovery. Instead, he brings it up with others that he knows would have a pleasant conversation about it.
The reason for his boring demeanor is that in the Soul Society he has less of an interest in things. To him, the colors are less bright, the air is more bland, the food near tasteless. To him it as if his entire world was reduced to but a mere shade of what it was, and he is the only one who knows any different. Few Shinigami have memories of their lives in the Land of the Living, and Iro has a full and complete memory of having a physical body that never experienced death. Restoring himself to his Spiritual body has caused emotions that he once felt so strongly to be completely dulled now. Just as the Soul Society is a shade of what life was for him, so too is he a shadow of what he once was.
Like most people, at least the ones who aren’t emotionless husks, Iro can still get worked up about things. There are certain things that make him tick, and when he starts to get angered is when his former self comes out, the one that earned him a stay in prison. Especially when innocents are threatened, Iro becomes very irritable and not afraid to use deadly force. A scowl generally overtakes his face and he tends to clench and flex his hands and tilt his chin up and to the left as he quivers with anger. This is not, generally, a good time to be on the receiving end of anything from him, because he tends to be sharp with his subordinates, impatient with superiors, and wrathful against his enemies. What tends to calm him down is the termination of the source of his irritation, memories of his lost love, or a very calm voice of reason, though the last of which tends to be the least effective.
Iro’s family is definitely very varied and conflicted, especially with the recent non-noble additions to the family. There is no avoiding contact with the family and adopted family, Iro living in the Mansion, so he obviously has opinions of them and treats them all differently, to a varying degree. Iro has a huge respect for Sozen and his strength, and has no desire in the least to even attempt to subvert him. Sozen and his power over Red is not to be trifled with, and Iro has no problem in letting his desires fall by the wayside to Sozen’s commands and needs. If Sozen tells Iro to do it, he will do it to the best of his ability without fail. However, Iro is also very jealous of Sozen and his fiancé.
Having lost his own fiancé to the horrors of organized crime, Sozen and his public feelings for his fiancé cuts him deeply to the heart. It brings back painful memories to witness the two together, so Iro generally will try and avoid the couple if possible. If he is forced to be around them, he will be quiet and only talk if coerced into conversation. Generally in times like this, he is lost in a film reel like portrayal of his happiest memories, soon leading to the darkest memories anyone can possess. If forced into conversation, his answers will be short and to the point, and if his film reel of memories is in the dark moments, he just plain will be impossible to force into conversation. In reality, any overly public couple near Iro’s age of appearance will produce the same psychological effect, but Sozen and his fiancé is the closest couple to Iro that will do such a thing.
Hokori Kuchiki is quite different from Sozen, in that he is younger than Iro and Iro never got to know him fully before he found himself lost in the Land of the Living. However, coming back to the Soul Society, Iro has attempted to get to know his very secluded family member. Iro likes to try and make conversation with the man, especially about good literature from all over, a personal interest that they both share. However, there are certain qualities to Hokori that Iro does not like at all, and will cause Iro to simply exit from his presence. Hokori is very arrogant, and treats those who are not Blooded Kuchiki with extreme contempt. Iro does not approve of this, and at times will go out of his way to stick up for the adopted Kuchiki, who he feels have earned the honor to be known as Kuchiki by their strength of body and mind, in some of their cases.
