This battle takes place in the Soul Society, right outside of the actual Seireitei, at one of the gates into the interior. The guard is nowhere to be found.

Vice Captains, post your intros. And then I'll post mine. The thread works like this. You guys have no posting order. I just post in between you. You can post in this thread at any time as long as my post is the most recent one, and comes before yours. Let's see how this works.

That said, you guys are a test thread for this mass combat system. I'm seeing if it works. So basically you guys are, to put it bluntly, a test thread to see if I can successfully use this system to fight all the Captains and wave Kuroi's dick around. So, you're a test thread to see if I can wave my dick around. But let's have fun with this. Besides, there are a lot of you. You've got a good sporting chance.

Circumstances:

Kuroi Naito, the Segunda Espada, has been attacking Soul Society again and again for years. He has come and gone as he pleased so many times that at last, after a recent attack which reportedly (though no one has seen to confirm) left Squad 7 Captain Enma in dire condition, the Captain Commander has had enough. Though all Captains are hurt badly and need to recover from the recent Vandenreich invasion, the weakened Seireitei will prove an ideal time for Kuroi's next attack. All Vice Captains are currently on standby in the Soul Society, awaiting Kuroi Naito's next arrival. They are in wait, prepared to ambush him.

At last, Kuroi has arrived outside of the West Gate. The Vice Captains are ready, minus one, who is severely injured from the Vandenreich invasion. The gate guard is nowhere to be found, and reinforcements have been put on standby, and told not to interfere yet. Kuroi now must contend with several opponents at once.

"EHHHH?! You want me to work with these fuckers?" Irudai motioned back toward the Vice Captains behind him. Irudai motioned back toward the Vice Captains behind him who stood in the office of the Captain Commander. They were in the first division barracks, having been called and gathered by the Captain Commander. Having been called by the Captain Commander, they were being entrusted with a mission. Seven Vice Captains at once were being offered this spectacular job. Seven Vice Captains at once were being offered this spectacular job of bringing down one of the greatest and most feared and infamous opponents that the Soul Society had ever seen, the Segunda Espada Kuroi Naito. Irudai had just been told to work together with the other six in an ambush team.

The Captain Commander told them that the one that they were to ambush was not to be underestimated. The one that they were to ambush was not to be underestimated, for he had brought down many an unimaginable foe. The First Division Captain told them of those that Kuroi had defeated. He had killed several Captains and Vice Captains, and survived encounters with even more powerful foes. Records said that Kuroi had even brushed with the likes of the Vizard Leader Zouma Santeku many years previously and had won. "Ehhh...well...I guess I can do it." Irudai conceded. Irudai conceded this only because he understood that the opponent was very powerful, and that the fight would be something for him to truly enjoy.

Irudai stood there days later when a black Garganta opened near the West Gate of the Seireitei. Irudai stood there days later when their opponent had finally arrived. When their opponent had finally arrived, Irudai and the others appeared there quickly, just in time to meet him and face him. The seven were all the stood in between Kuroi and the Seireitei. Seven Vice Captains had gathered on that day. Seven Vice Captains had gathered on that day for the sake and purpose of killing the Segunda Espada. Irudai's grin was enormous. "Shit...I'm fucking digging..." he said. Irudai twitched his fingers. Irudai twitched his fingers, and then grabbed his sword from his side and unsheathed it. His Zanpakuto had been drawn.

Irudai recalled having met Kuroi before. The Segunda Espada had come once before to the Seireitei and met with Irudai as a third seat. Irudai had seen his Vice Captain at the time, Hiro Kaname, being defeated, and had also witnessed Kuroi and the Quinta of the time rescue several Arrancar. That was twice that Irudai had seen Kuroi. That was twice that Irudai had seen Kuroi, which made this the third time. He wondered if Kuroi would recognize him. He recognized Kuroi alright. Irudai kept grinning. Hiro Kaname had been powerful. Hiro Kaname had been powerful, and Irudai had greatly admired and respected him. Irudai had greatly admired and respected Hiro Kaname, but here he had surpassed him.

Never before had so many ganged up on Kuroi that were Vice Captains. Once, there had been three simultaneously, and Irudai had seen. There were seven, and all were stronger than back then. All were stronger than back then, and had become far more powerful and skilled. Kuroi was going down. Irudai kept grinning as he held his sword and gripped it tightly in his hand. It was almost so tight as to begin to draw blood from Irudai's hand. He took a step forward and stood at the front of the Vice Captain pack. He took a step forward, standing in front of them all, and he faced the Segunda Espada and looked him in the eyes. Perhaps they should have done their introductions in order, but this would be an irrelevant point.

Irudai bellowed his greetings to Kuroi. "SEGUNDA ESPADA!!!!!" he yelled. "YOU'RE GOING DOWN! GET READY TO BE BROUGHT IN BY SQUAD 10 VICE CAPTAIN IRUDAI IZUMIIIIIII!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!"

It was finally time. The plans had been in discussion for a while now. There had been meetings between the Vice-Captains, discussions, investigations. Hell, Grin had tapped into his family's information on the Vice Captains so that he would know more about their capabilities when the time came. And now, that time had finally come.

Grin was waiting just a little bit behind Irudai, doing some basic stretches to loosen up, to get ready. His sword was already out, just as it had been since he had gotten the news to move out. His reiatsu was concealed, as to not give the Segunda any advance hints about what he was capable of. While the other VC's were doing what they were doing, Grin was balancing his sword on two fingers, carefully adjusting to keep it where it needed to be, to stop it from falling. "I don't know about the rest of ya fucks, but I've got a raging mental kill-boner for this guy. This is fucking the SHIT, man!"

It was shortly after his own outburst that the Segunda arrived. Grin's smile only widened once the man of the hour appeared, and he let out a slight giggle. He let Irudai have his say with the Segunda, timing about when it would be over so he could use that point to break into hysterical laughter at the same time Irudai did. "Fuck me running, man! I'm in the presence of some sort of fucking celebrity right now! Ya got Irudai all hot and fucking bothered, Segunda!" Grin chuckled more to himself at this, quickly tossing his sword up into the air a little bit and catching it with the same hand before it even fell "Hell, Segunda? Fuck no, not going to address ya by your title! In fact, as of right now, Yer name and title are up in the fucking air! Ya want em back, yer gonna have to beat us for them! From right this fucking second, Yer not Kuroi Naito, the Segunda Espada! Yer Emo-Fag, whiny bitch-ass Arrancar of Despaaaaaaiiiiir!" Grin rolled his eyes some as he said the last word, smile still not leaving his face. "And we're all ready for ya, Emo-Fag! We're gonna muss up yer nice an perty clothes before we string ya by your intestines from the walls! Break that preety face of yers, and fuck you right up the ass with yer own sword! Am I perfectly fucking clear?!"

[Keji Sokudo]

Keji didn't like this. It was a combination of a few of his least favorite things, Crowds and Superior Opponents. He despised fighting in front of others, it was far to easy to reveal his secret when he was caught up in the heat of battle. One on One it was easy, simply kill them before they could escape and the problem disappeared, but he couldn't kill his allies should they discover the truth, no there were too many of them. How he wished he could be back in his room relaxing alone, but that was not to be. It had been drilled into his head over the past many planning meetings, were he not present today he might not have a room to go back to. This Segunda Espada would kill his cats given the chance, who does that? cats are so innocent. He couldn't be allowed to get away with even thinking about hurting Mittens or Buttons, and especially not Sampson.

Keji was getting distracted. It was time to focus on the task at hand, besides Keji was facilitating the communication for this particular endeavor. Earlier when they had been preparing to move to the gate where they now knew kuroi would appear, keji had handed out the headsets, a rather empty gesture in and of itself, as even now no one had put theirs on, but it had performed a critical function. Keji's shadow was linked to the shadow of ever VC present. He clung to them like ethereal armor, detecting the slightest movements of their throats and converting it into sounds that would be played across the ear drums of every VC present, unless it was given a specific target. Keji heard all of course, he was the communication hub for the group, thin barely perceptible strands joined them in a web. Fortunately for keji, the nature of his reiatsu made it incredibly difficult to pick up these threads, especially amongst so many high spiritual pressures.

There was a second benefit to having the Vice Captains cloaked in Keji's shade. The first VC to make contact with Kuroi would inadvertently bring Keji into contact with him as well, meeting the initiation conditions for one of keji's oldest techniques. His passive drain of Spiritual Pressure. The advantages however did not end there, in the event of an emergency Keji could cast a Kido from any one of the Vice Captains. It was Keji's bane, the type of fight he was most suited for was by far the most dangerous for him personally, his secret and his being were put on the line to greatly empower the group he was working with. He hoped that this gambit would pay off, the defeat of Kuroi was the only good option for both Keji and for soul society as a whole.

In front of him the gargantua opened, keji moved his gigai to the back of the group as Irudai began to scream a welcome to the approaching foe. This was not going to be an easy fight, but underneath the fear and apprehension, there was emotion that drove Keji to fight, that kept him from running away to his cats like he so desperately wanted to, it was hope. Deep in his heart he felt it. More than felt it, Keji knew it;

"we can win."

Arara. This was the tough one. Kuroi Naito. The Segunda Espada. The worst Kaen had squared off with was the Noveno. Technically he'd fought the Septima, but that was strictly OOC. Even the Noveno Espada, Asuka, had given him a tough time, barely fighting out to a draw against her. The Segunda would, naturally, be even stronger. More than that. The Segunda had defeated Kaen's own captain. Kaen awaited Kuroi's arrival with the other Vice Captains, in a seated position, eyes closed, calmly trying to relax. Control his breathing. If he was tense, his performance would worsen. He would err. He would fail to perform at his optimum. And against such an adversary, to do any of the above would be costly. People would die, if he slipped up. If he could not perform his best. They might even die if he did perform his best, but this offered the best odds of success.

Irudai bellowed his greeting to Kuroi, announcing Kaen of his presence. The seventh squad Vice Captain opened his eyes and stood to his feet. He swept up a hat from the ground beside him. A Stetson. The Flame Stetson. He placed it upon his head, and grinned in anticipation of the battle. No other Vice Captains. They were lost from his thoughts for the moment. His eyes focused down on the Segunda. Kaen wore the Esteemed hammer at his side, but ignored the weapon, in favor of drawing his Zanpakuto-- a Kodachi, from his back. His chainmail vest was difficult to see beneath his modified shinigami uniform, but it was there, all the same.

"So. You're Kuroi Naito, huh. The embodiment of despair? That's interesting. I wonder how you plan to do such a thing here. There is nothing for you left to take from us. I'm quite afraid you arrived a little late to the party Kuroi Naito, if you think there's a single angle left for you to attack." Kaen taunted the Espada. "Suppose introductions are in order though." Gripping the hilt of his zanpakuto, Kaen lowered it before him. This was reminiscent of kendo's Gedan-no-Kamae stance, albeit a one handed version, and with a shorter blade than expected.

"I'm sure who we are is insignificant to you. But out of common courtesy, I will tell you." Kaen added. "Squad 7, Vice Captain, Kaen Youji. It seems my Captain neglected to give you something the last time you met." Kaen stated with a smirk. "An unsightly demise. But don't worry too much. I'll make sure to deliver it to you in his stead." He stated, his voice brimming with confidence, and his eyes blazing with an inner fire.

(OoC: This post represents a Spectator, not a Participant. Marcelius as merely come to observe, and document the Segunda's performance. He won't be involved in any other way beyond watching.)

West Rukongai, District 1. The beauty of this residential paradise was unparalleled by any other region within the Soul Society. Buildings here were made with astonishing decorations, exuding an elegance not to be seen anywhere outside of heaven itself. This district over flowed with happiness and serenity. Prosperity, both financial and spiritual, embodied the soul and architecture of this most treasured of districts. The streets were of the finest set stone, marble that seemed polished...untarnished like the floors of a great palace. No trace of destitution or poverty...ever touched this place.

It was a marvel, a jewel. Setting foot within the boundaries, one willingly steps into the embrace of it's charms. It is hard to imagine any soul, who would not long to visit...or reside in this oasis. Yet, the streets were empty. Up and down the boulevards, back and forth through the alleyways, not a soul was stirring. The tenants have all gone. Whether by flight or into hiding, the city had been abandoned to solemnity. Nothing but the wind, brought sound or motion to the world. Why then, have all the residents fled? For a shadow had come to their world. A long and fearsome shade, a being constituted as much of fear as he was of flesh. The Segunda had come.

Along the 1st Street of the 1st District, there lay a cadre of shops and merchants. Today there would be no business. No shop would dare stay open on such a holiday as, "The End of the World." From the rice peddler to the silk trader, no counter or stall was manned. It became apparent, and awkward, when Marcelius perused the wares of a nearby tea hut. No one to provide service or care, such a shame. It was not an easy chore, acquiring exotic or exquisite drinks for a resident of Las Noches. Such amenities were available...but not in such a grand array or diversity. So, Marc had worked up his excitement for quite some time during his journey.

Brought to the Soul Society by the Segunda, the old Mask had come to observe and archive the events of the day. It would be his duty to inspect the Espada's performance, the response by the Gotei 13, and preserve the information for future use. Many aspiring Espada or Fraccion, all of them could learn from today's performance. Still, there was time to be spared before the main event. This was to be the work of the Segunda. It would not be a mindless raid. No, he was here to send a message. It would not be quick, or reckless. Waiting outside the gates, he would draw the tension until it snapped under the slow rising pressure. So. With this time advantage in his favor; Marcelius sought out a freshly steeped pick-me-up.

Emerging from a rather extravagant shop, with a herbal mixture still steaming in his cup. The particular flavor chosen for this morning, was a of a strong bitterness and of rarity for the likes of his breed. Having come outside now, he took his place at a cozy little patio table. Setting down his cup to cool, he closed his eyes for a single moment. Taking in a deep breath, one of total relaxation and comfort, he made the most of his momentary vacation. For the second his breath ended, he was back on the Espada's payroll. His senses, specifically sight and sound, were lulled into a state of numbness.

In the darkness of his mind, new light and sound began to flow like beautiful music. It became immediately clear to him, that each of the amassing defenders, were of Vice Captain proficiency. Their deeds and names were soon, "carried on the wind", and rang inside of Marc's consciousness. Irudai Izumi, Francis Grin, Kaen Youji, Kazuko Shiba, Raygin Kawada, Taien Hadohou...and Keji. "Why are you here... What plans Marc had of advancing closer, to better examine this spectacle, were now completely washed away. There was too much risk, at least, for the sake of this old Hollow soul.

Today's virtuosos were gathering to play their long awaited concert. Gathering at the other side of the stage, a grouping of powerful souls. Each of them, mighty in their own right, and all of them huddled together. It was not his place to judge, nor was he able to from his minimal safe distance, but this was not the brightest of beginnings. Safety in numbers only applies to the man using his comrades as bait...so that he might escape. The Segunda had power enough, to decimate entire buildings with a single show of force. Was it really wise for his targets to arrange themselves into...forget the formalities, they were in a barrel.

If they tried to flee from an incoming Cero, chances were good that one of them might bump into another and trip them both. Heralded by a Sonido, the capable Segunda could drop among them and engage confidently in hand to hand. All of this observation and interpretation was his assignment, not his joy. He did not find pleasure in analyzing the patterns and strategies of soldiers preparing for the waiting calamity. True satisfaction, was constructing an understanding of each individual's mental state.

Marcelius could see, that it was not fear that drove the collected opposition into a pack...it was arrogance. This inspired great intrigue for this humble spectator. He understood better than most, the basis for such feelings in the face of such an obstacle. Still, it was enthralling to watch the emotional conditions as bravery bolstered during the prologue. A shame none of them possessed any foresight for the plot that was about to unravel. C'est la vie, such is the way of it. Marcelius did what he could to draw back his focus from their feelings and attitudes. It was his duty to watch, record, and learn. What he developed from this shadowing would be used to train the future of Hueco Mundo. For him, this mission was of supreme importance.

Still, there was a presence of pity within him. The situation for these Shinigami, and their pulses, was quite dire. Marc would prefer they not be destroyed, once an example had been made of them...but that is why he would never be on par with the Segunda. Too bad for that fact as well, as the quality of life would be in significantly less danger if it were he who faced the assembled officers instead. Reaching for his tea, the ripples of his moving hand bouncing off it's perimeter, he drew the warm brew to his lips and took the first, calming sip. "Good luck..."

[Taien Hadohou]

"Hahahahaha! Oh, this is going to be fun, I wonder if we'll win? I hope we do! So exciting!"

Taien Hadohou, Vice-Commander of the Kidou Corps, was with six other Vice-Captains of the Seireitei, here today to fight against one of the most fearsome and destructive foes in years. Kuroi Naito, the Segunda Espada. They were all here today to fight against him, and hopefully win. Barring winning, they were to either stall or repel him from entering the Seireitei. This was one of the largest attempts to take down the Segunda in recent memory. The most Taien could remember assaulting him were three, and they probably weren't quite as strong as they were now.

Still, their chances were pretty low. This was a guy who was renowned for killing off Captains and Vice-Captains like geese. This was gonna be a tough one, especially if Kuroi chose to release. His release was said to be something else by those that had witnessed it, but it still wasn't documented very much. Taien didn't know much about it, so he wasn't quite sure what to expect. He did know that he could slow down things with it, though whether that was a technique or not Taien wasn't sure.

What he was sure of, however, was that they were going to do their very best. They were going to have to, if they wanted any chance of coming out on top. They'd need to work together to maximize their advantage. How they were going to do that would be tricky, but if they could pull that off, they might actually be able to beat Kuroi! Taien was optimistic that they could. Taien was always optimistic however. Either way, they were going to bring out the fullest powers they could. If they did well enough, they might make Kuroi do so as well, assuming he didn't just release straight away.

This was going to be a fight for the ages, and all of them were fired up! This was gonna be fun! Taien toyed with some of the equipment he had brought for a moment, making sure everything was in place. When he was sure, he slid on the gauntlets that were the Secret Blades, and was ready to face their adversary. Who would win? Who would loose? It was hard to say, but neither side would be the same after this battle. Hopefully.

Item Name: F.O.R.M Prototype: Overwatch

Item Type: Time Piece/Defensive Instrament

Item Description: A fairly nice looking watch at first glance. Its completely black, save for the hands and the numbers. The hands and numbers are crimson red on the right half while the other half is sky blue. Normally all it does is tell time. However, with a press of a button, the watch takes creates a four foot purple circle of energy a foot from the surface of the watch. The circle of Reiatsu has a strength of 400, and deflects anything with lower Reiatsu strength than 400. The watch has four uses, and takes five posts to "reset". A second button on the other side of the clock face allows the strength to go up to eight hundred for one use, but it burns the energy in the watch out for a while, taking twice as long to recharge. As this is a prototype, there are some things wrong with it. While the watch could be used in succession, it overheats the circutry, causing it to burn out. As such, there is a two post gap between uses, otherwise the watch really will break. More advanced models will have it corrected, but until then, it breaks even once overused. It takes a Class 3 person to actually be able to use this watch's battle function.

Silence... That’s all the Vice-captain heard while he was stuck in this stupid hospital bed. Out of all his failures, out of all his fuck-ups, this had been the worst. A piece of his zanpakuto had... died. Now he was only left with one. One sword to do all the work. He didn’t know how his zanpakuto had changed but it had and now here he was in the hospital recovering from a fight that happened at the hands of the Vandenreich. Now half of his zanpakuto was dead, just one spirit, no longer a trio of them, just the two of them, no longer the three of them to watch each other’s backs. It was just the two of them to look out for each other...

And it killed Kyousei inside and out. It ate Kyousei from the inside out, the pain of having a part of his soul ripped out, naturally his zanpakuto had changed a lot. He didn’t know what it could do now. All he had done was lay in that damned hospital bed, all he had done was despair in this hospital bed. He hadn’t done anything except cry, eat, drink and sleep. At some point he didn’t want to leave, he doesn’t want to leave. What’s the point? Him and Tsuin Tsuname had been grieving together, sometimes internally and sometimes externally. Kyousei then drifted back into sleep, tears still fresh in his eyes.

Kyousei found himself in his inner world. The underwater city. He was by himself. He couldn’t find the remaining half of Tsuin Tsuname. Where was she? She sometimes disappeared and sometimes reappeared. So Kyousei just sat on a rock, crawled in a fetal position and rocked back and forth. Trying his best to look strong despite the fact he was in his inner world. You couldn’t see tears in his underwater inner world. “Why me? Why me? Am I just not good enough? The Vice-Captain is awoken by the noise of medics rushing everywhere. He hears gossip among the unseated officers in the wing. He hears stuff like. “Kuroi Naito... Segunda Espada... Vice-Captains. After that his mind blanks again, obviously he had been given sleeping pills in his drink, he had been rejecting sleep lately. Maybe that’s why he fell asleep so easily and so quickly. The medics tended to do that when you really needed rest but refused it. They put you to sleep in their own ways.

He wakes up again. About an hour later. This time different unseated officers are speaking and they sound more alarmed. Now he can hear the more clearly and better. Kuroi Naito has invaded... The Vice-Captains are going to fight him... I don’t think they can win... They are fighting right outside the Sereitei One of them says. Kyousei simply slumps back in his pillow. Obviously he was in no fit condition to fight. Look at him, in hospital with a few injuries and wallowing in his own despair and self pity. And now the Vice-Captains who could fight were probably out there fighting for their lives right now. Who was he kidding? They couldn’t take on Kuroi; with or without Kyousei.

Then suddenly something brings him to his senses. The first time he’s heard from her in days. It gives him a sort of renewed reassurance. Kyousei... Please... That’s all he hears at first but then her words become clearer in his head. They ring out in his ears. Kyousei, please wake up. I...don’t blame you. It is both of our responsibility. Both of our failure. Not just you. I just... can’t stand to watch you like this, unable to fight, not caring about anything except dying. Please master, get up. Help your comrades. Tsuin Tsuname pleads. Kyousei tried to argue. But- However she cuts him off with another long winded speech. No. It wasn’t your fault. It was both of ours. I want to see battle again and I know you do as well. You need to go; you need to stand up to this man. If you’re going to die then die a hero, a warrior. Not a coward crying in his bed.

That’s all Kyousei needs to give him the will to get out of his bed. Still in his white shikakousu that patients had to wear. Suddenly Kyousei’s will is restored. His spiritual pressure is rising, after a long time of containment and being suppressed it was finally out. He walks out and grabs his zanpakuto. One of the unseated medics rush over to him. “Vice-Captain Kitso. You should really be in bed, you shouldn’t be releasing your reiatsu like this.” Kyousei ignored her and takes hold of his sheath. He then turns to the unseated medic. “As a Vice-Captain you will fucking let me out of here.” He says.

He then runs out of the squad 4 barracks. He feels a little weak at first but continues on. He must get to the place where they are fighting. He forgets to put on his official shikakousu and his Vice-Captains badge on his arm. But some people there will know him. He straps on his sheath and leaves the seretei, some other shinigami look at him with a confused look as he rushes past them with four hundred speed. He is the last one to make it there, still feeling weak. There are his other comrades, ready to face off against the Segunda espada.

He’s gasping slightly, he hadn’t had a fight for days and he was already going to face off against the Segunda Espada. Well that was new. He never thought this would happen. If he was going to die he would at least die knowing he tried his best. If the Vice-Captain was going to die he wan’t going to die in despair, he wasn’t going to die a failure. He would die knowing he did his best. He was going to die knowing it was for a good cause. If was going to die he would die not crying or begging or even upset. He would die not for Kuroi, or himself. He would die for them. No more failures. Just success. No more losses. Just victories.

Kyousei was done living in despair. He tries to keep calm, his heartbeat pumping rapidly as he finally makes it. His katana is already drawn and facing Kuroi. He misses what all the other Vice-Captains have to say. He knows he could die against this man. He must look out of place, he stands out. Not wearing black, wearing white and not wearing his Vice-Captains badge. “Ugh. Sorry bruv just came from hospital and that. So this is that annoying espada cunt.” He says as he nods to him. “Vice-Captain of Squad five I am. Kyousei Kitso but please man just call me Kyousei.” He says. Secretly he hopes he won’t die. That’s his resolve, protect Serieitei and survive. No more failures, just success. He wasn't dying today, that was a fact.

Trembling. Trembling was the best word for what Raygin was doing. But it was not from fear. It was from excitement. The Vice Captain of the Kawada Family was excited. He sat down on a stone, amongst the other Vice Captains, simply watching his trembling hand. "Kuroi Naito...the Segunda Espada...I wonder what he's like? Is he polite? Is he funny? I don't know anything about this guy...except he is strong and number 2. Number 2 aint bad, but that means he isnt the strongest either. We can do this." Raygin said, grinning ear to ear. Despite being adopted, a bit of the Kawada family had been sinking into Raygin. Normally Raygin was against battle, but for once he was excited for this one.

And then he appeared. From the black void of the Garganta he appeared. The man of the hour, Kuroi Naito. Raygin blinked a few times Raygin narrowed a eye, tilted his head, and raised an eyebrow. Kuroi...did not look like what Raygin expected him to look like. For some reason, Raygin assumed Kuroi would be black skinned, not white. Not that white. Not albino white. Raygin stared at this guy with confusion. "Wait...you're not black?" Raygin said outloud, stating his confusion. Raygin had totally assumed he had been black. Looking at his eyes and hair Ray raised an eyebrow even higher. "You need a hair cut! Your hair is unruly and it makes you look bad for someone of your high status. Secondly, why do you look like such a woman? If you're the Segunda, shouldn't you look more like a man?" Raygin asked, taunting the enemy.

Raygin drew his falchion shaped Zanpakuto, being ready for almost anything Kuroi could throw at them. "Now then, welcome to Soul Society Kuroi! Allow me to tell to introduce myself to you, Raygin Kawada Sakubara Vice Captain of Squad 13." Raygin said, introducing himself. "Now then, its time for all of us to get this party started!" Raygin shouted, with excitement.

Kazuko Shiba was sitting down, cross-legged behind the throng of Vice-Captains when Kuroi Naito appeared. Intelligence was right for once; it would seem the time and location of his Garganta was correct. No matter, there were eight Vice-Captains on that field, and only one Espada, the second strongest too; he had made the mistake of invading the Seireitei too many times and would find that his luck ran out here. The boy recognized a few faces there, like Taien, Kaen, and Kyousei, and knew he was in good company. Together, no matter how strong Kuroi was said to be, they would defeat the Espada. The Vice-Captain of Squad 9 was calm overall, and intended to maintain his composure here. He did not want to have another episode, or a break down, during the fight, so he would need to make sure he stayed on top of things, mentally. Still, by that point, everyone had already said their introductions, all except for Kazuko.


But he felt that useless now, given that the Espada had just heard introductions from seven Vice-Captains, and would likely not care either way if the boy chose to stay quite or not. Besides, it was useless giving his name since the Espada would die very soon from their combined power. For that reason, Kazuko just rose from his sitting position, slowly, and drew his zanpakuto from his back. He was youngest and smallest Vice-Captain in the group, only appearing to be fourteen, and looked a bit odd holding his zanpakuto like a typical warrior. Still, he needed to be prepared and ready for the battle to come, so he would kick things up a notch before every other Vice-Captain. He gathered reiatsu along the rim of his blade and slowly condensed it. In a moment, he released the reiatsu all at once from his zanpakuto, activating his Shikai in the process; his reiatsu came out in an aura of gray steam and mist.


“Crumble, Gagoiru.” He was first there to release his zanpakuto it would appear amongst the Vice-Captains. Whether it was sign of weakness or not, he didn’t really care. This was a mission, and stalling out a battle for self-servicing bravado was not something he intended to do. His zanpakuto turned double-edged and broadened out into an arc where the tip used to be. Moreover, a five-foot chain extended from the hilt with a spike on the end, which then wrapped around his right arm. He held the sword in a typical stance, with zanpakuto perpendicular to his body. With that done, the boy walked to the front of the group near Taien and Kaen, and took a knee, setting the cusp of his blade into the ground. With so many fighters here, making a headlong charge would be pointless and ill advised. Therefore, the boy would instead use his zanpakuto to support the other Vice-Captains, provide cover, and provide openings when needed. “I’ll provide support.” He stated without turning back to the other Vice-Captains. A few had already seen his powers and would know what to expect; like Taien and Kaen for instance.

Kuroi stood there, facing eight adversaries at once, all Vice Captain level. He stood there, having emerged from the blackness of the enormous Garganta tear only moments before. The Segunda Espada had on a black suit and pants with untucked white dress shirt and black tie. He had matching dress shoes and unruly black hair in layers. It was unkempt, but well cut enough to still appear quite appealing. Merciless black eyes, cold like steel, gazed out at the Vice Captains that had dared to come before him. Eight of them had gathered. Eight of them would be defeated. However, though Kuroi stood facing them with his right hand in his pocket and his left hand out and ready, he was still casual. He was still taking it lightly. All of them were underestimating him.

Kuroi noted the first of those to arrive. The speaker was the representative from Squad 10. Judging by what he burst out saying, Kuroi could only surmise that he had been lured into a trap. They were ambushing him. It had been foolish, however, to send the meager Vice Captains, rather than their superiors. Had it been all of the Captains, they could have greatly increased the Gotei Thirteen's chances of actually killing or capturing the Segunda Espada. At the very least, the Captains probably would not have been defeated. As it was, these were only Vice Captains. To Kuroi, numbers were irrelevant. They were fodder. "SEGUNDA ESPADA!" one yelled. "YOU'RE GOING DOWN! GET READY TO BE BROUGHT IN BY SQUAD 10 VICE CAPTAIN IRUDAI IZUMIIIIIII!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!"

Kuroi winced inside. How distasteful. He was soon bellowed at by another one, only seconds after the outburst of the first. "Fuck me running, man! I'm in the presence of some sort of fucking celebrity right now! Ya got Irudai all hot and fucking bothered, Segunda! Hell, Segunda? Fuck no, not going to address ya by your title! In fact, as of right now, Yer name and title are up in the fucking air! Ya want em back, yer gonna have to beat us for them! From right this fucking second, Yer not Kuroi Naito, the Segunda Espada! Yer Emo-Fag, whiny bitch-ass Arrancar of Despaaaaaaiiiiir! And we're all ready for ya, Emo-Fag! We're gonna muss up yer nice an perty clothes before we string ya by your intestines from the walls! Break that preety face of yers, and fuck you right up the ass with yer own sword! Am I perfectly fucking clear?!"

Two had already bellowed at Kuroi. He identified them based on what he knew of the Gotei Thirteen's lineup. Sonken Kouhai's spies were useful at this time, given that Kuroi could learn who filled which positions, not that the information was hard to come by. Squad 10's Irudai Izumi and Squad 11's Francis Grin. These two were the representatives of the loud, obnoxious brawler squads, as they had both just showcased. However, Kuroi's opinion was that both felt fear, and covered it with excitement. They rebelled using impudence. They were not alone in their rebellion either. "We can win." another said. Judging by the physical appearance, Kuroi noted Keji Sokudo, Squad 3. He was a mysterious one, and not much was known on him.

"So. You're Kuroi Naito, huh. The embodiment of despair? That's interesting. I wonder how you plan to do such a thing here. There is nothing for you left to take from us. I'm quite afraid you arrived a little late to the party Kuroi Naito, if you think there's a single angle left for you to attack." The fourth one to speak had a point. Kuroi had previously been unaware of the devastation which already lay here. What exactly had caused this massacre? Kuroi had his suspicions, of course. He had a very good idea, but no confirmation meant that he should not assume things. "I'm sure who we are is insignificant to you. But out of common courtesy, I will tell you. Squad 7, Vice Captain, Kaen Youji. It seems my Captain neglected to give you something the last time you met." Kaen stated with a smirk. "An unsightly demise. But don't worry too much. I'll make sure to deliver it to you in his stead."

Another arrogant one. They were all so arrogant. So ignorant. They were fools. The fourth speaker had been Kaen Youji, the Squad 7 representative. He was Enma's man. Kuroi was well aware of the ramifications of this, of course. That one would also be powerful. If he had to take a guess, those he must most watch out for would be Kaen Youji of Squad 7 and Irudai Izumi of Squad 10, judging purely off of the strengths of both Squads and their Captains. None of the following three said anything to Kuroi, though he knew them as well. Taien Hadohou of the Kido Corps was one whom Kuroi had encountered previously. Raygin Kawada and Kazuko Shiba, both nobles, were also easy to spot and identify, especially for one having read up on Soul Society's finest.

Kuroi made a point to draw his sword. Not his Zanpakuto however. Kuroi's Zanpakuto was nowhere to be seen. Instead, he had drawn a different sword which he'd brought. This one had a silver colored blade which appeared very sharp, and had a black hilt and guard. This one, Ashirein, was one which Kuroi had had custom forged for himself. It was a very sharp blade, and could cut as efficiently as Kuroi's Zanpakuto, if not moreso in some cases. He held it in his right hand. The blade was sharp. It glinted and reflected the light of the sun overhead. Considering the tense conflict, it was a surprisingly nice day, with a blue sky devoid of any clouds, and the sun shining bright and hot high overhead. Kuroi regarded all of his foes coldly.

At last, he decided to address them. "Taien Hadohou." Kuroi noted first. "It's been a long time." He then regarded all of the others, noting physical features and recognizing them by name. It helped that some had given their names as well. "Francis Grin. Keji Sokudo. Kaen Youji. Raygin Kawada. Kyousei Kitso. Kazuko Shiba." He named all of them. It was not a show of respect. It was simply a formality. Besides, Kuroi was analyzing them as he spoke. The last one he had named had released in response to the Segunda drawing his sword. Kuroi nodded in the direction of that one. "The Squad 9 Vice Captain is the most intelligent out of the lot of you." Kuroi said. "You're full of openings. Every single one of you."

FUCK YES." Irudai grinned, and then he began to laugh. He began to laugh much in the way that his Captain did. Much in the way his Captain did, he cackled madly with throaty laughs which were also very joyous. Irudai started to shake violently, for he was greatly agitated and ready for combat. The Squad 10 Vice Captain was the most powerful of the Vice Captains by rumor, though perhaps it was untrue in practice. They would soon find out.

It took only a second. It took only a second before the blade had become a smaller one. Irudai's Zanpakuto had a handle which was only a few small inches long and wide, and a blade which did not exceed two inches in length. He was far faster than met the eye. Irudai's effective speed had doubled from his release, for that was his ability. That was his ability. Irudai's Zanpakuto power was the ability to condense his power into a smaller form and focus his reiatsu. He focused his reiatsu to enhance his movements and his strikes. Irudai appeared to Kuroi's right side. Irudai appeared to Kuroi's right side, and did so with a speed significantly beyond the Segunda Espada. The Squad 10 Vice Captain was three times Kuroi's speed. His right arm was raised.

Irudai's attacks had this intended purpose. He would shatter the Segunda Espada. Irudai's shadow fell over Kuroi as the Squad 10 Vice Captain made preparation to attack. As Irudai's blade fell to strike at Kuroi, Irudai laughed. He laughed a hearty laugh once again. He was ecstatic because of his powerful opponent. It was going to be a very entertaining battle for them both. Irudai laughed, and his blade came down. As his blade came down and he laughed, Irudai thought about others interrupting this joyous moment by creating a combination attack with him. He did not mind. A one on one fight would not work against this opponent. Irudai knew that, though he did wish for a one on one fight. He could not get his way always however.

"You're full of openings...every single one of you." Kuroi could see it. He saw the weakness of every single Shinigami present just from observing them. The first thing that Kuroi did as he said that was to initiate his Pesquis. One of his lesser used abilities, this technique would allow him a long radar with which to sense the combatants. He noted all of their reiatsu signatures, and also kept his eyes on all of them, which was easy given that they were in front of him. At that time, all but two remained in their sealed forms, which against an Espada was foolish. Even outnumbered, Kuroi was in the advantage, and they should well know this. The only thing that Kuroi required against this number of foes was his radar, the Pesquis technique which extended for two miles around him.

Kuroi did not have any hands in his pockets as he usually did, for he had a sword in his right hand. That was the other condition of being outnumbered. He was willing to use a sword against his opponents. The end result would still be the same as he intended for it to be. He could see several things at once from the start. Three things caught Kuroi's main focus almost simultaneously, and he processed them very expediently. The first was the Squad 3 Vice Captain, Keji Sokudo. Using Pesquis, Kuroi could detect that he was a sort of center of powerful reiatsu, and it was very noteworthy that he was in the back. He noted it as a "center" because Pesquis picked up on some sort of connection between the blips and the center. They all traced back only to Keji, not to one another, making him center.

Now, even if Kuroi did not have the means, meaning Pesquis, to sense this, he would see it. The black strands of connection from their shadows were visible in the bright light of day. Kuroi deemed early on that it was some form of connection through which Keji could probably funnel something, most likely communication or reiatsu. It was possible that they could communicate with one another mentally, as Kuroi had encountered enemies who could do so, and it was possible that Keji could do other things with this connection, such as give reiatsu to his allies. Kuroi recognized very early on that he should not make contact with the shadows as a result. This, as a whole, was the first thing that Kuroi noticed in the battle.

The second that Kuroi noticed was the tensing of Irudai Izumi. The Segunda Espada had exceptional mastery of the sword, and any blade based attack movement could be easily interpreted and predicted by Kuroi in the blink of an eye. He noted Irudai's body begin to tense, and the Segunda Espada's mind quickly calculated what kind of movement was coming. It was going to come with a lot of speed and power, as expected given a representative of Okusa Shogen's squad, and Irudai's arm appeared ready to move upward for a downward stroke movement. Kuroi recognized this detail before Irudai even began to move, and prepared a counter for it as well. Kuroi moved as Irudai was halfway through his tensing.

When Irudai arrived, Kuroi had used his preconception of Irudai's movement and trajectory to step to the side. Now, if Irudai were to whirl around and attack right there, Kuroi's movement speed would not be enough to dodge it, however Kuroi would be able ot mentally concoct a different response, given his ability to interpret Irudai's attacks. The first movement, however, the side step, completed just as Irudai's movement began and he materialized before Kuroi. In this way, Kuroi ended up to Irudai's right side, since the latter had been in mid movement and too fast to stop his own movement before Kuroi got to the side. Irudai would probably have the means to guard against most attacks delivered by the Segunda Espada, so this was why Kuroi made sure to be on guard.

Kuroi held up his blade, which reflected sunlight with its shiny silver steel. It reflected a beam of sunlight into Irudai's eyes to blind him, but more importantly was angled diagonally so as to shine a beam onto the string of shadow connecting Irudai's to Keji's. It was a twofold attack. Irudai was being blinded and Keji attacked. The introduction of reflected, new sunlight hitting the tendril would not only sever the connection, but harm Keji, the latter effect Kuroi was unaware of, given that it was a part of Keji's body, an extension used from him. With Irudai blinded, and Kuroi's foot beginning to twist into a pivot with pressure falling onto the toe area, his side step had allowed him to evade the slash motion, avoid being crushed by the air force of Irudai's attack, and man a counter attack.

The third thing that Kuroi noticed was the preparation of other players in the game. Francis Grin, Squad 11, would be a heavy hitter if he served in that combat division, so Kuroi kept aware of his reiatsu signature. Additionally, Kaen Youji, Vice Captain of the strongest Captain, was one Kuroi kept vigilance on. There were two with enormous reiatsu, but Kuroi knew that they were back-up, and not main offenders in this fight. No, the Segunda Espada was after only those who posed immediate threat for the moment. Kuroi poised and prepared his counterattack to Irudai. The Segunda Espada was not hasty. He knew the value of patience. Patience was a virtue. It did not, however, stop him from taunting.

"Speed is not enough to strike me." Kuroi informed Irudai. "Or are you only capable of raw physical ability?"

He said they were all full of openings, all of them. He acted as if he was so superior, the way he carried himself, the way he spoke, just the overall way he seemed to present himself. He owned the fight, he wasn’t fighting opponents, he acted as if he was fighting students and he was the master. Kyousei glared at him, the adrenaline in his body was fuelling his actions, the battle was starting, he had drawn his blade for combat and the vice-captains were ready as well. Kyousei eyes all the other vice-captains carefully and eyed Kuroi most of all, against this guy they would all need to release.

And then Irudai spoke. Well it wasn’t really ‘speaking’ it was more shouting, showing off, whatever you liked to call it. Either way it was totally over the top and kind of inappropriate considering the situation at hand. Kyousei face palmed. "SHIIIITTTTTT!!! I FUCKING LOVE THIS GUY! WE'RE ALL ABOUT INSULTING HIM, AND THE BITCH HOLE DOESN'T EVEN BAT AN EYELASH. JUST FUCKING STAYS FOCUSED ON THE FIGHT! I LIKE THAT! FUCK YES." This guy was either very stupid or just very eager to fight. “Baka.” The Vice-captain muttered under his breath. He starts screaming and calling out like a banshee.

"Don't underestimate me..." Irudai warned. "DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER, OKAY? WATCH ME FIGHT FIRST BEFORE YOU DECIDE IF I'M ANY GOOD OR NOT!!!!!!!" Kyousei still has his zanpakuto drawn and Irudai raises his blade. He’s going to release, Kyousei is sure of it. Who wouldn’t release against an Espada? "EXPLODE, KAAMMMIIIIKIISSOOOOKkkUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!" With a call like that Kyousei expected some sort of explosion of reiatsu to engulf everyone there but his sword just glowed and then it... shrunk? Well Kyousei wasn’t disappointed but he wasn’t impressed either. “What a weird zanpakuto.”

Irudai was left holding a butter knife, Kyousei decided he would follow suit. “Now collapse and rise, Tsuin Tsuname.” Calling the name ‘Tsuin Tsuname’ hurt Kyousei a little. His sword was no longer ‘twin tsunami’. One of the spirits had died and was gone completely. There was no longer any ‘twin’ it was just ‘Tsuname’. Calling her Tsuin Tsuname just didn’t feel right anymore. It didn’t feel natural, he felt as if he was insulting the dead spirit by acting as if she was still there. However Kyousei wanted to know what he could do with one blade.

Kyousei’s sword glowed blue as well and then shrunk, it shrunk down to a single Wakizashi; yep just as he suspected, one blade not two blades, his zanpakuto was truly different. One hundred gallons of water poured out of his blade and dripped to the floor. It felt different, it felt weird only welding one blade in his shikai instead of two. Kyousei didn’t like it, it felt different but it felt too different, almost as if it was wrong, as if he was sort of sinning against his zanpakuto but he couldn’t worry about that now.

As Irudai moved Kyousei used the water that was on the floor to guide it towards Kuroi’s feet. Irudai tried to attack but Kuroi easily sidestepped, however they could both notice that they were now fighting on wet ground. The ground was wet, as if a puddle had been formed. Kyousei was just biding his time slowly and wisely before he struck out. Kyousei’s didn’t see the details exactly but it seemed Irudai was blinded, all Kuroi did was raise his sword but then Kyousei noticed the sun and his blade. He blinded him with the sunlight.

After Kuroi finished his speech he would then find that the puddle he was standing on turned against him. Kyousei manipulated the water to turn into sharp bladed points so (basically swords) that literally rose up and aimed to stab him, four of them, one for each hole Kyousei could see was easier to hit Kuroi wasn’t moving and had finished talking, it was the perfect opportunity...He willed the water to stab Kuroi in both of his eyes and hit ears, the whole purpose was for two reasons. If it hit then Kyousei would be happy and the fight was over but this was the segunda espada. Secondly it would provide an opening since Kuroi would be focused on the ground for a split second for some of the water fighters to attack. However dodging would prove to be difficult, seeing as Kuroi had just attacked, spoke and he had to respond, if he couldn’t then he as in trouble, very deep trouble for sure.

The numerous amount of calculation mistakes made by Kyousei were evident when Kuroi countered him in addition to Irudai. However, it was not when the ground started to become wet that Kuroi noticed Kyousei's attack. It was when Kyousei released, which happened after Kuroi's Pesquis was already in effect. He felt the surge of reiatsu from Kyousei, and quickly became aware of Kyousei's preparation for an attack. Naturally, Kuroi was pondering mostly on Francis Grin, Irudai Izumi, and Kaen Youji, though Taien Hadohou and Keji Sokudo also made it into his calculations. Kyousei was one of the most lesser of his concerns. Kuroi's response was flawless and perfect to the water attack. The issue was that the ground soaked up the water that tried to reach them, meaning that to create a flood that moved across it, Kyousei had to create a deep pool headed for them.

This deep pool was hard to miss. In fact, for one of Kuroi's skill, it was impossible to miss. The water also was not instant in reaching Kuroi and Irudai, meaning that when Kuroi side stepped and blinded Irudai, who moved at a speed far exceeding the large, moving puddle that shadowed the ground, the water would not yet have reached them. When at last it did, Kuroi launched himself diagonally and away with the foot that had been pivoting. The other foot scraped against the ground to slow Kuroi, and also began pushing into the ground as he moved backwards and thus away from the water, just as it reached them and just as spikes began to fly out. Kuroi's words occurred as he escaped, though the water by then grew close enough so as to allow Kyousei's bladed water points to erupt outward.

Kuroi, moving away, dodged them by escaping their vicinity. Irudai however was left within the vicinity that had previously been occupied only seconds ago. This meant that the spikes, instead of headed for Kuroi, all headed for Irudai instead! Stunned by the sudden ray of sun that had blinded him, Irudai would need a miracle to be able to notice the water and defend against the incoming spikes on time without being skewered by his fellow Vice Captain. Kyousei had launched his water, but would he be able to see what was happening and actually stop it on time? It originated very close to Irudai, and unless he purposely slowed it down for some reason, it was likely that it had been moving as quickly as possible to attempt to take out Kuroi, who had moved before the arrival of the bladed points.

Skidding back across the ground as the puddle flowed around where Irudai was and where Kuroi had been, the Segunda Espada was quickly gaining distance between himself and the Vice Captains. "Using water manipulation as if it were ice..." Kuroi noted of Kyousei's strategy. "Quite the mistake." He was easily able to taunt his foes as they failed one after the other to strike him. Kyousei's error had been in not simply synchronizing with Irudai, rather then sending water across the ground to attempt to stealthily creep up on Kuroi, and rather than waiting to launch the bladed points. Besides that, Kuroi knew another fact here. Who in the Segunda's position would have failed to expect an attack from a foreign, instantaneous water source?

Kuroi did not care to voice the majority of these thoughts, but he did care to guard against or dodge incoming attacks. Kuroi fully expected another incoming attacker at that point. The best would have been either Kaen or Taien, both of whom could materialize quickly to launch powerful strikes. However, simultaneously, someone needed to save Irudai, who otherwise would be killed by his own comrades strike. Kuroi noted mentally that Kyousei was brash and impatient. On Kuroi's way away, a quick glance had caught Kyousei's look of disdain, and the eagerness with which Kyousei had attempted that water attack had been evident in the rushed, partially thought out nature of the attack. The Segunda Espada took mental note that Kyousei liked to rush in when what appeared to be an opening presented itself.

One who was quick to make judgment calls was one who would be in Kuroi's advantage to fight against. As Kuroi moved backwards, he prepared himself and studied what he knew thus far of all of the present attackers. He was compounding information in his mind with an efficiency that most would never hold in their lifetimes. Kuroi was like a machine. The way that he battled could very well be compared to a machine. Those around him, however, were mere scarecrows. Immobile and fashioned from straw and cloth, none of them had the means to combat a fast moving beast fashioned from metal. Kuroi intended to strike one down within the next few exchanges. There was no doubt in his mind that this was the inevitable outcome.
