For a moment, the world was nothing but pain. Excruciating, boiling pain. Schultz felt agony comparable to death, and he remembered that feeling all too well. But where his had been a death of panic and helplessness as he collapsed, unable to breathe from his weakened lungs, this “death” was much more painful, with no time for fear. Every nerve seemed to be lit ablaze as skin nearly melted away from the burns crossing it. The hair on his body felt like it was burning away, and his clothes were reduced to rags. Blood poured from burns so severe that the skin broke and bled before even the blood evaporated. It hurt like the fires of Hell; that was the only way that the Espada could describe it even as he tugged the Hollow into his Garganta with the last of his strength, gasping for breath through the superheated air.
His plans were coming apart quickly, and the pain of his injuries was making it hard to think. Schultz felt fear in greater measures as the worst of the immediate pain died away, only to be replaced by a constant burning throughout his body. Thankfully he had reflexively covered his face, so that his eyes were undamaged, and for the most part the rest of his face was intact as well. But he had suffered a heavy price as his Bala hadn’t exploded like before; rather, it was simply consumed, absorbed by the monster’s intense Reiatsu strength. It was maddening, to see how powerful this Hollow was. And yet, Schultz continued to try and drag it towards Hueco Mundo so that the more powerful Espada could handle it.
Never thought I’d die this way… Feh, how pathetic. I’m dying on a mission for an organization I hardly care about…
Now wasn’t the best time for self-pity, though. The Hollow’s tail whipped around and Schultz moved to dodge it, but even with his knowledge of the creature’s muscle memory he couldn’t reduce the impact by much; he was too damaged to really move. The Espada was whipped backwards to slide across the “platform” he had created within the Garganta, more pain ripping through his middle from the impact as another two ribs broke. Panic shot through him again; he had died because a rib had pierced his lungs in his early childhood, causing his later asphyxiation. He wouldn’t let that happen again! No, that death had been pure terror, and frustration, and helplessness…
It was time to gamble again. Schultz created another illusion… but he focused it on himself. His nerves were soothed, no longer sending warnings to his brain, while the feeling of blood running down his body was masked. His skin no longer felt aflame, and every movement wasn’t an agony. Even his weariness was washed away. This was a risky move, unfortunately; though he couldn’t feel his injuries anymore, they were still very present and would take a toll on his body. But it would free him from the pain of his wounds long enough to focus on getting the Hollow to Heuco Mundo. From there… well, the Espada could only hope that help would arrive and capture the monster, as well as provide medical aid. He was going to need it.
The “platform” within the Garganta started moving immediately as Schultz directed it towards Heuco Mundo, floating smoothly through the swirling energies in the path between the two worlds. Once it was set, the Espada quickly created more illusions, dozens of chains to bind the Hollow and force it to its knees if not face-down on the ground. They were easy to maintain while he had his own mental clarity, and if the Hollow was starting to learn, then it was losing some of its purely instinctual methods and might be bound down a little more easily since it could be convinced the chains were there. To the illusion Schultz added a mirror of his own pain that he was masking to further distract the Hollow’s mind.
However, he was ready to move again as needed along the platform while they were making their way to Heuco Mundo. It wasn’t too far of a distance; Schultz rarely even brought out a book on the ride between worlds. However, it was still long enough that there was the possibility of his dying and losing the Hollow in this void, a double failure that would not allow his soul to rest easily. For himself, the Espada had to survive. For the sake of Heuco Mundo’s power, he had to bring this Hollow back. He would not die trying, and he would not let this Hollow get away! It was a dangerous balance though; no sane person would begin to think that this was possible.
It’s a good thing I’m quite mad…
