Shade didn’t react as he was grabbed from behind and a knife was placed at his throat. The captain glanced at Kenryoku, who was also in the same boat as him. In fact, just the assassin acted, Shade’s hand had already instinctively grabbed the hilt of his zanpakutou. Shade knew that he’d be able to dispatch the assassin even before he was able to slash his neck, but he took this moment to pierce through the entire crowd of rich nobles with a gaze that harbored nothing but bloodlust and hate at Eliza Kusumi’Oji. Even from across the entire room, Shade was able to catch a glimpse of the woman through a space in the crowd, and he glared at her, immediately pinning their current situation on Eliza.
Fortunately for the assassin, a white bullet-sized orb smashed into his head, granting him with a quick and relatively painless death before Shade could relieve him of his arm. The captain stepped away from the assassin’s body and made a beeline towards Eliza, his sword unsheathed and malice etched across his face. It was at this moment that an assassin appeared in a black cloak, complete with a mask that covered his face. In his hand he held what could be identified by Shade as a Bakkuto, the very tools which the Kasumi’Oji family were in charge of. This strengthened his suspicion that the Kasumi’Oji family were behind the events that were unfolding before them.
The squad 13 captain overheard the captain of squad 3 as well as the captain of squad 11 identify the blade that the cloaked figure held as a Bakkuto. Turning away from the assassin for a moment, Shade arrived at Eliza’s side and grabbed her wrist, twisting it behind her body and placing his blade at her throat. He couldn’t kill her. That much he knew, but he wasn’t about to sit around doing nothing. “This is your doing, isn’t it?” muttered the captain as he shoved her arm upwards behind her so that she was lifted her up onto her toes. Kyomei was completely disregarded by the head of the Kawada family. Shade didn’t care about the relationship between the two of them. The only thing that mattered right now was getting to the bottom of this.
If Shade had made a mistake in accusing Eliza, then so be it. He realized that there was a chance he was wrong, but when someone has ordered a hit on you and another member of your family, you don’t really care about wrongly accusing them of stuff, do you? Shade’s eyes now turned to the assassin now. He glared intently as he held her assumed leader hostage. While Shade’s actions may have seemed rash at first, he’d thought them through well enough. Right now was the perfect time to take advantage of the current panic that everyone was in. If he threatened to kill her in this way earlier, he would have been deemed dangerous and thrown out, but now... Now all bets were off and it was every man for himself. The panic that ensued provided the perfect opportunity for Shade to do what he’d felt like doing earlier. Shade didn’t like Eliza. That much was clear.
