Soul Society
In the beginning, there was no God, no holiness. Nothing was perfect, and nothing was absolute. Even today, nothing is true. It was 33,000 years ago that humans lived and died, and spirits wandered aimlessly. Some, consumed by negativity, were devoured by hollows. Others, stronger than the rest, successfully created a spirit world. The strongest of these spirits, the one who would later become the Spirit King, helped construct this spirit world, known as the Soul Society. With its creation, spirits could find their way into what was considered to be paradise, and a time in a new life, a life as a spirit in Soul Society, in the area now known as Rukongai. And yet, led by the first hollow, known as Cain, hollows were too strong, and spirits were unable to get to Soul Society, merely because they were eaten by hollows. And even so, it was discovered that a world of negativity and hollows, Hueco Mundo, existed.
To counteract this, the Spirit King exiled his existence into a place known as "The King's Palace", or "Heaven within Heaven." A place inaccessible, in a God-like existence, unable to truly do or direct anything. But, he did this so that in secret, he could take up spirits. Using these spirits, he trained them, turning them into his Royal Guard, which would later become the "Zero Division." While it took several decades, he successfully trained thirteen of them to masterful abilities. Arming them with a magic known as "Kido", and blades known as "Zanpakuto", the Spirit King sent them down to Soul Society, to train more and more to become "Soul Reapers", or "Shinigami." Their organization eventually developed its own gigantic district within Soul Society, and thus it became The Gotei Thirteen, and the Seireitei. Their duty was simply to defeat the hollows, and help lead souls to Soul Society.

33,000 years ago, there were eight blades made, said to be the first zanpakuto. These came to be known as the Blades of Abhorrence. However, they were too strong to be wielded by the shinigami. They were also evil swords, who would destroy their masters should they not bow to the destructive will. Each of these blades had a zanpakuto spirit so powerful, that it was able to take over the blade form, and thus exist as an external being with great and terrible power. Because of this, the eight of them were locked away in various places. Seven of them were wise enough to realize what would happen, and thus exiled themselves to fitting places. The Eighth was not so wise. He attempted to make War with Seireitei, and the Spirit King defeated and imprisoned him. When all eight disappeared, Ryuujin Jakka was made as the first zanpakuto, and as the model for all others.
And thus with their new weapons and powers, the Shinigami forced Cain to flee to Hueco Mundo, defeating his army of hollows. And yet, billions or even trillions of hollows remain. New ones are created every day. And though no longer a joint force, they are separately wandering the human world as well as their own world, eating any spirits that they can. The job of the Shinigami is to patrol the human world, and stop hollows from eating spirits. To slay these hollows and to save those souls is the job of a Shinigami. Sometimes, hollows have infiltrated Soul Society itself, and yet they are always put down. As time passed, the Gotei Thirteen became the norm, the regular.
The 13 originals became the first 13 Captains, who would lead the 13 Squads. The Squad 1 Captain became the very first Captain Commander, and the one that would wield Ryuujin Jakka. It was then that the Spirit King created a son. Roshu Kensai, the Spirit Prince. The Spirit King, who had seen the beginning, felt that a new judgment would be necessary to run a new world. Unfortunately, Roshu Kensai, who was kept from ever leaving the King's Palace, soon grew bitter and impatient. He didn't want to thrive on an existence without interaction. He left the King's Palace, just once, to visit the Soul Society. He was discovered, and soon he was exiled, for he had been corrupted by outside influences.
Though enraged, Roshu submitted to his fate, and joined the Gotei Thirteen. Eventually, as time passed, the First Captain Commander grew old, and returned to the King's Royal Guard, and Roshu became the best candidate to succeed him. He took on a new name, the name of "Satsujun", and the title "God of Murder", as he became the Second Captain Commander. Though possibly stronger than the First, he wasn't nearly as wise. Satsujun felt angered, and betrayed by the Spirit King. Researching into forbidden things, and giving himself forbidden powers, Satsujun built up his strength in secret, in a hope to one day overthrow and replace the Spirit King. Despite this, his research did yield some good. He unlocked a second stage of Ryuujin Jakka. This second stage would later become the model for the second stage of all zanpakuto, the stage known as "Bankai."
With his forbidden knowledge, it was only a matter of time before Satsujun tried to invade. And indeed he did. After a thousand years, he tried to take over for the Spirit King. He was stopped not just by his own Gotei Thirteen, but by the King's Royal Guard, the Zero Division. Together, they succeeded in imprisoning him, destroying his body so thoroughly with the imprisonment to ensure that he would never rise again. And thus, his threat was meant to be neutralized.
Many threats and conflicts arose over the next 33,000 years, with Captain Commanders generally changing shifts every thousand years. And so, came the reign of the 33rd Captain Commander of the Gotei Thirteen. Along the way, a set of Captains were experimented on by a certain Vice Captain, and one was banished to Hell itself. The one banished was former Squad 5 Captain Zouma Santeku. He, and those experimented on, achieved hollowfication, a process that gives hollow powers to shinigami. For this, they were banished, and were supposed to be executed, though they were saved by a certain someone with a hat.
There were many Captains that came and went, but for the next leg of the story, there were thirteen that must be absolutely remembered beyond question.

These 13 Captains were some of the strongest in the history of the Gotei. It was then however that a human invaded the Seireitei for the first time ever, a Ryoka. There were exactly four. Arashi Manako, Sado Troga, Inoue Nagihime, and Shinhu Ishida. Previously, there was a Shinigami named Enkai Manako. He was once a famed and powerful Captain level Shinigami, and perhaps more. One day, during a vicious battle, he used a strength known as Saigo No Houmen. This turned him human by stripping him of his Shinigami powers for a single great attack. He went there, where he met and married a woman named Mazaki, with whom he had two children. They were Arashi Manako and Aijou Manako. Aijou was six years Arashi's junior. However, it was Aijou who developed massive spiritual powers even at a mere age of eleven. She soon even developed her very own Zanpakuto and release. When Enkai noticed it, he made a pleading to Soul Society, which allowed Aijou to become a substitute Shinigami. Later however, when a Hollow got lucky and injured her, she was forced to transfer her powers to Arashi so they'd all survive.
Arashi slew the Hollow, but took almost all of Aijou's power. This was also considered a crime, and therefore Aijou was taken by Soul Society to be executed. Arashi was beaten down and nearly killed by Onuya Kuchiki, and left for dead. He was found by a man with a hat, who trained him in his powers, and even gave him Shikai. Arashi's three friends were also trained. One by default was a Quincy, and the two others learned special powers, which later would be known as "Fullbring." Arashi and his three friends invaded the Seireitei to rescue Aijou. They fought many battles, and in fact they inevitably won by rescuing Aijou.
It was then however that Arashi, his friends, and two Captains of the Gotei were defeated by a traitor, Azeru Cho (Aizen). Azeru Cho took the Captains of Squads 3 and 8, who were his subordinates, and the three of them left Soul Society, taking also an item known as the Hougyoku. They left with it, saying they would return to make war later. The Hougyoku allowed them to release "Shinigamification" onto Hollows, turning them into Arrancar. Though Arashi was allowed to keep his powers and be the new substitute in place of Aijou, and he and his friends were spared and allowed to go home, it was invariable that there was a looming threat from Azeru Cho.
An entire army was eventually converted into Arrancar, though the ten strongest Arrancar became a fighting force known as the Espada. Eventually, the Espada and the Captains ended up in battle. Arashi Manako successfully killed Espada 6, 5, and 4. During this time frame, Kenpachi Shousen defected, leaving because he deemed everyone too weak. He disappeared, and was never seen again. Heihachi defeated Espada #8 and 9 both, while Onuya defeated Espada #7. Juushiro and Yushiki worked together to defeat Espada #1, while Gen Son and Urya defeated Espada #2. Espada #3 was defeated by Keita. All that remained was 10, who Kenpachi Shousen defeated on his own before defecting. Unfortunately, each Captain in question died against their Espada. The Espada and Captains killed each other. Luckily, Sozogaya defeated Gaiden, and Azeru Cho killed Jin, who turned on him.
It was then that Tamajosho worked together with the former Ryoka, Arashi Manako, and together they defeated and sealed away Azeru Cho. They couldn't kill him, only seal him. Tamajosho was killed in the process, and Arashi Manako lived on. The Gotei Thirteen was left without Captains.
And then, as new Captains rose, the plot began. . .
In that time, an army known as The Fallen arrived. Their goal? Of course, it was to annihilate Soul Society, who they blamed for their wretched lives and appearances. New Captains rose at that time, and defeated not just the army of The Fallen, but their main leaders as well. From #5 to #1, they were Maka, Moka, Ashoka, Tsuru, and Li. (Note: These guys are the sub-in for the ORIGINAL Arc 1 Ogatago!)
During their invasion, Arashi's sister Aijou was also captured, and then killed too, banished to Hell. Of course, she later returned as an enemy known as "Miss Zero," who had in fact been found and revived with those powers by Ojou, another demon in Hell. Ojou and Aijou together were Miss Zero, and had incredible strength. Together, they broke the seal on a prisoner in Senzaikyu known as Husk, who restored a partial amount of his power. This man later became Satsujun. Simultaneous to Satsujun's rise, a Vizard known as Maldaga Sasori defected from Zouma Santeku's company. Though Zouma and his allies only wanted peace, Sasori took on a name, "King Shada." He used an army of Vasto Lorde to try to attack Seireitei. His power and Satsujun's proved to be too much, and a few more Captains were killed.
However, during this time, Arashi discovered the blades of Abhorrence, and combined them with his own Zanpakuto. They mixed together to create a new version of Saigo No Houmen, Saigo No Akira. His attack, called Okina-Ban, killed and utterly destroyed King Shada, leaving nothing. Satsujun, meanwhile, was attacked by a single Zero Division delegate from the Spirit King. In the midst of battle, and his use of Saigo No Houmen, Satsujun convinced them to give him a chance to live, but as a human. And so he contracted them to let him live, so long as he remained human. He would go to Hell once he ceased to be human. It was that simple. Meanwhile, he even freed Aijou for Arashi, returning her (with powers) to him. He then left, disappearing into the human world after killing Ojou, who had in fact been his daughter.
He did not resurface until the founding of Xcution.
Later, Soul Society, believing the Vizards were in league with King Shada, attacked the original Vaizard base, and killed three. Sekaitsu Raito, Kira Gosei, and Haruko Tsuchin were killed. Enraged at this, Zouma lured out the Captain Commander, Old Lightning, and killed him. He then invaded Seireitei, and destroyed their Big Soul Cannon, a powerful weapon. With that, he left. Since then, the true events of understanding have been discovered. They know what happened, and are trying to negotiate.
Thus far, these are the events of Soul Society...
