William moves down the street taking care to make sure he didn’t bump into anyone knowing that if he did it may come back on him due to his profession. Not to mention he was quite certain that in most cases if he bumped into anyone else in Tokyo he was going to push them over which never looked good. It was going to take him a bit more time to reach his destination being so aware, but he had left his apartment knowing this was likely to happen so he wasn’t worried about being on time.
This was the first day since he had really started his career as a police officer that he had enough free time to just relax and do something he enjoys. That’s where he was headed right now in the middle of the afternoon so as to not deal with a large portion of other individuals. The large foreigner was off to the movies! He wasn’t sure when he woke up this morning what the theater would be showing around one p.m. so he made sure to check on the website and was pleasantly surprised to find that one of his favorite older movies from America would be playing.
A simple horror flick from the eighties when such movies were at their best in William’s opinion. This was something that he felt he needed, to just sit back for a couple hours and enjoy something. Reading lore was enjoyable for him, but it was still an activity that took effort wherever this was something he would be able to just embrace. So after walking for another couple minutes he reached the movie theater and purchased his ticket. A small bucket of popcorn and a soda were all he purchased before heading off to his room and sitting towards the front. The position he preferred in the front right in the middle where the screen would take up almost his entire view. Now all he had to do was wait and enjoy.

While William had been deciding to go and see the horror flick, another person had already decided on the same. Earlier in the day, Kuro Adachihara had snuck a gigai from the Academy's supply closet. He decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to practice controlling the false body and using it in the World of the Living. He had also heard of the popular movie series happening in Tokyo from a few soul reapers who had recently been there. This gave him the idea to follow his fascination with the modern times' movie technology. He had heard so many things about the movies and how exciting they could be. So sneaking out was well worth it.
Kuro waited for the perfect opportunity after slipping into the gigai, waiting by the gate to the world of the living with his sword wrapped over his back, the string going over the front of his body. "Hopefully people will just think it's a replica or something...", Kuro thought to himself. He knew it might be strange to see a man in blue jeans, a white shirt, and a yellow hoodie with a katana on their back. He wore the hood up over his head to hide his even more unusual black hair with white tips. This disguise was flawless in his mind, and so with everything in place he slipped through the gate to the world of the living.
By the time William arrived, Kuro had already snuck into the movie theatre and had been sitting two seats left of where William had taken his seat. He didn't have money so buying a ticket was out of the question. This unfortunately also included popcorn and a drink and having a weaker spiritual constitution, his stomach began to growl. He looked around and spotted William settling in and whispered over to him with his unusually quiet speaking voice, "Excuse me... Do you mind if I have some of your popcorn?" Kuro's dull blue eyes reflected slightly in the light from the projector playing the promotions for upcoming films as he waited for an answer, hoping the stranger would be able to hear him.

Sitting in his seat William hadn’t even realized until a few moments after that there was another individual not just in the same row as him, but only a seat or so between them. How had he missed something like that? Well perhaps this would be a pleasant surprise. Maybe he would actually be able to find a legit friend for the first time since he had moved to Japan. Although unlikely it was still a possibility. So William just continued to wait for what he had come to see begin. He didn’t even make eye contact though until the other guy whispered to him about perhaps sharing his popcorn.
William was a good guy who cared for others and wouldn’t hesitate to put himself in danger for them, but sharing something of his when there was no clear indicator that this guy couldn’t have gotten the same for himself? The sceptic in William was in full swing for a moment, but mentally he just had to push through, this was going to be a good day no matter what happened. He was determined to enjoy it no matter what so the man placed the bucket of popcorn on the seat between them. This would be a clear indicator that William was willing to share with the man that quite frankly had a unique appearance to him.
As he turned back to face the screen William had a realization. His eyes going from a placid expression to surprise and then almost immediately down to that look one most sees on a parent dealing with an idiot child. “Why do so many of them constantly come back here.” William kept this remark locked within his mind yet referring to the man beside him who he believed to be a Shinigami. It made sense now why the man had a katana on him. He didn’t have money to buy things which was why he had asked to share.
William got up without saying a word and moved back to the lobby of the movie theater buying the common soda in the large size and then a bag of popcorn. After about two minutes of sitting by himself watching the stupid mini placements of different companies prior to even the previews of a movie, William would walk back in. Moving to the man he’d hand him the drink and his own bag of popcorn. “Just don’t ask me questions throughout the movie about what’s happening.”William didn’t like the idea of a shinigami slouching on his duties or a Hollow potentially attacking, but this was a movie day and in order to enjoy a movie one needed a soda and popcorn.

Kuro slightly jumped when William got up instead of responding, thinking he had potentially made him very angry and thought he was going to attack him at first. Sure, Kuro could handle an average human in a fight, but seeing as he had snuck out creating an incident was something he wanted to avoid at all costs. He held his hands up in a defensive and weaker posture to show he wasn't going to aggress further, but when the stranger turned and walked away Kuro frowned further. "Looks like I'm not making many friends today...", he thought to himself. But then after a few minutes with the stranger's return and the new bag of popcorn and soda Kuro blinked in surprise.
Kuro stood and gave an apologetic and polite bow, accepting the gifts of food and drink before sitting back down, whispering, "Thank you very much." He took a few of the pieces of popped kernels of corn and placed them in his mouth. As the salty, buttery pieces of hardened fluff touched his tongue he gave an audible sound. It was of glee and much louder than his speaking voice. Kuro still wore his usual frown but it was much lighter, giving the popcorn a few chews. With each chew he gave more sounds of enjoyment and quickly popped a second piece in his mouth.
He was so enamored with the popcorn he almost didn't hear the man give a quip about not wanting to hear questions about the movie. Kuro nodded several times as he chewed the second piece and swallowed, whispering to the stranger once more. "I'm Kuro Adachihara. Thank you again for the treats. I won't be asking questions but I want to say, this is my first... film?" He accidentally said it as more of a question than a statement as this was his first time outside of the Soul Society since his Konso and much time had passed since he had been alive. And it was his first time seeing a moving picture in person.

William made sure to sip through the straw that his lips were now around, the flavor of the soda splashing across his tongue was one that he always enjoyed yet something about being in a movie theater just brought it to an entirely different level. This was one hobby that William had always loved and yet hadn’t been able to experience much lately. So eagerness wasn’t really something that got a hold of how happy the man was to see this movie. One wouldn’t really be able to tell that though as William pulled off the stoic man stereotype perfectly.
He could see that this Shinigami was more than likely new with how much he flinched, not to mention his personality. Perhaps he was a member of Division Four? William had heard that those of the medic core were sometimes spineless, but useful although he hadn’t been able to verify this nor did he like to generalize, knowing that such a thing could leave you open to surprise and thus defeat. Still at least he apologized and thanks him for completing the movie environment. William could see that he was enjoying the popcorn and although he wouldn’t admit it that was something that made William happy just another way of helping someone else.
They still weren’t even showing the previews for the upcoming movies that would be hitting the theaters by next month yet so whispering wasn’t really something that William did especially when the two of them were the only people in the theater. So once this Shinigami introduced himself William turned and gave him eye contact. “William Creed. I hope you enjoy the film, but please in the future make sure you’re ready for the worst when you leave Soul Society.” William brought a few pieces of popcorn up to his mouth and munched down on them knowing that he'd likely see a look of shock in a moment.

Kuro's eyes widened at the mention of the Soul Society. The pieces weren't exactly fitting into place yet, as he thought maybe this was just a kind stranger. But the next possibility was that maybe this man was a Shinigami? No, not possible. Kuro focused a bit, just like he had been taught at the academy, focusing his senses on the energy within the stranger known as William. His energy was definitely human although there was something else... Something a bit tainted. Hollow?
This thought slammed to the forefront of Kuro's mind. He couldn't just sit there with a possible threat. The only rational idea that came to mind was a hollow. But hollows don't have just normal human bodies, and they certainly don't go munching on popcorn to sustain themselves. The only creatures that are hollows and show human like behavior were rare beings he'd read about in the academy.
"ARE YOU AN ARRANCAR?!" Kuro shouted the question, standing up and placing his right hand back behind him and grabbing the handle of his blade while turning to face William. He had only heard stories from the academy and had forgotten that Arrancar usually have visible masks on their faces and there really hadn't been anything on his face to hide a mask. When this finally hit him, his face went visibly pale, but he continued eyeing William suspiciously. His voice went back to it's normal near whisper as he spoke, "Your energy.... it's tainted. You can't be a Quincy because of that but you have too much for a normal human. And you know about Soul Society. So what are you?" Kuro's eyes narrowed, becoming almost frustrated with the question.

William got more than just a look or expression of surprise that much was for certain. He hadn’t been expecting this Shinigami to be so fresh that he couldn’t handle a bit of surprise. What were they doing in the academy? WAs Soul Society so hurting on man power that just anyone with a bit of spiritual ability was being pushed through without proper training? William didn’t know, but after seeing this and meeting Azami it was starting to look that way to him. That wasn’t a good thing though especially since it meant he’d have to deal with more Hollows than normal if even the average Shinigami couldn’t handle them.
William could see the gears moving inside of this Shinigami’s mind as he sorted through the possibilities. Him getting up out of the seat and placing his hand on his zanpakuto though. Those were actions that would usually lead to a fight. William though determined to have a good day kept to his seat while sustaining eye contact with the shinigami. Shouting the question whether or not he was an Arrancar. Before William could give him the answer he could see the expression shift and knew he had realized that was false already.
“You’re correct so far, I’m neither an Arrancar nor a Quincy. My reiatsu isn’t potent enough to be a real Hollow, but it has Hollow inside of it. Do you know what that makes me? Have they taught you that?” William was genuinely curious because it seemed to be that most of the Shinigami that he met had either no idea what a Fullbringer was or very little knowledge about them. There was still plenty of time before the movie started so William was going to keep going with this and hoping to calm Kuro down enough that they could watch the movie. “I’m no enemy otherwise you’d already be dead so relax.”

Kuro shook his head slowly at the question posed to him. How could a human have hollow energy inside of them before death? It just didn't seem like something that could happen. A hollow was someone that had passed and experienced deep feelings of negativity before becoming such an abominable creature. The question racked his brain, leaving him more puzzled at the entire situation. But it was obvious that there was no threatening posture from William and he seemed content to simply enjoy the film.
Kuro decided that it would be better to simply sit down. He relaxed his posture, standing more straight and releasing his hand slowly from the handle of his blade. He finally took a seat and looked back to the screen, but sat so his body was just more slightly facing to William's position. He didn't completely trust the situation, but that didn't mean he couldn't be polite. After all, it's not like a human could win in a fight against a Shinigami with just a little hollow power inside of them, right?
Kuro spoke softly and with an embarrassed tone, "Truthfully, I'm still in the academy... I haven't been selected for squad assignment yet. I just wanted to see a movie for the first time..." Kuro didn't turn while speaking, his soft tone probably being muffled by the commercial messages. He atleast half way hoped they would be so he could avoid being looked at like an idiot for sneaking out to the World of the Living. Especially without back up or any currency.

William released a fairly heavy sigh once Kuro revealed that he wasn’t really an approved Shinigami yet. It’d be visibly easy for Kuro to see that this had somehow frustrated or annoyed William. Thankfully William contained himself repeating in his mind that today was going to be a happy day no matter what. “How do you guys keep on slipping through to the human world? You’re the second in a week that I’ve come across that managed to get through your special doorway without permission. Is a Captain missing or does no one care anymore?” William was definitely frustrated, but Kuro would be able to hear from his tone that he was attacking him verbally more like he was just voicing these questions out loud.
“I can understand wanting to see something that you’ve never experienced, but please think about the effects for your actions in the future. BY coming to the human world you place normal people at risk from other spiritual entities like Hollows. Enjoy the movie and have a good day, but try your hardest to fix that flinching problem when you get back to Soul Society. You need to be able to handle a Hollow in case one ever actually appeared, otherwise you’re just food and so is everyone else around.” William couldn’t believe he was having this conversation for basically the second time in a single week.
William made sure that he took another mouthful of soda and enjoyed it. He used it to help calm and center himself knowing that the flavor was one he thoroughly enjoyed and always made him feel better. “We’ve got enough time that you can ask me anything you want, just nothing about the movie itself.” William really wasn’t sure when he had become the Substitute Shinigami for Tokyo, oh wait he hadn’t gotten that position. So why was he more knowledgeable then the Shinigami that kept coming to Tokyo!
Post by Kuro Adachihara on Nov 13, 2020 10:48:05 GMT -5
Kuro shrugged as he responded to the first question. "Honestly, I just waited until someone was doing something routine in Tokyo with an approved senkaimon. And before the door fully shut, I snuck through as fast as I could. Granted, if they weren't in such a hurry, they probably would've easily noticed me." He took a big sip of soda before swallowing it down. He shivered with enjoyment as he tasted the wonderful flavor dancing across his tongue. As for the other comments, Kuro's eyes narrowed as he turned over to William.
"I can handle myself. I just thought you were a normal human at first and didn't wanna get caught because I slugged a human. If a hollow did show up, and I was assured of it being a hollow, I would've cut it down without another thought. The job is important because I wanna protect spirits and people. They all deserve peace and respect alike." As Kuro said this, he was a little louder and bolder, showing his heart was buried in this ideal. He meant every word and he didn't shrink from this idea of responsibility. His hair had visibly shook with his head movements while speaking as well.
To the final part he seemed to frown a bit deeper in thought before responding. "Well.... Are you atleast good to other people? Being superior due to your spiritual energy doesn't seem to make you evil, even if you have hollow in you. But I need to know that you don't bully others before I can make you my friend in my book." Kuro ate a piece of popcorn after saying this, almost casually. He wasn't averted to making friends, but he still seemed to have a hard time making them. This was because he had a standard of only accepting people that had respect for everyone at his level of thought. A bit of a high bar, but he felt like lowering it today to this statement.

So it was that when they opened the portal to the human world they didn’t have enough people watching the gate. That was a bad reasoning and one that William wouldn’t have thought Soul Society was dumb enough to allow. Still it seemed that it did, which meant that leaving everything to the Shinigami really wasn’t the best choice . . . even if he hadn’t ever made that choice in the past anyway. He wasn’t sure if Kuro was going to suffer some sort of punishment from sneaking out later when he returned, but based on how easy going he has been it was either he wouldn’t because they wouldn’t realize he was gone or he’s not thinking far enough in the future. Whatever he was trying to have a good day just like William so let it be.
Kuro standing up for himself was a good thing though William made no attempt to hide his grin as Kuro stated that he’d be able to take down a Hollow once he was certain that it was in fact a Hollow. “Good keep that mind set. Prove it once you become a full fledged Shinigami and don’t ever allow others to fall while you're around.” What Kuro asked next though William wasn’t so sure how to answer him. Sure he could give him a simple yes, but would that really take care of why Kuro was asking the question in the first place?
“I can tell you anything you want to hear, make sure you don’t believe everything anyone tells you. Sorry if I’m coming off bad, but you have to be vigilant if you’re putting your life on the line so always keep your wits about you. I’m a police officer here in Tokyo. I’ve hunted Hollows my entire life much like you Shinigami. Now you have to weigh whether I’m being honest or just blowing gas. Learning who to trust and how often to trust others will help keep you alive. Also I bought you stuff, I’d say I’m a saint.” William joked about his own placement in the grand scheme of things as he tossed another piece of popcorn into his mouth.
Post by Kuro Adachihara on Nov 14, 2020 7:59:51 GMT -5
Kuro chuckled a bit at the last comment before sitting back and enjoying the opening of the film. Throughout the movie however, Kuro did not uphold his promise to William, but not in a way he thought would really be breaking the rule. He would shriek every time a jump scare came up and ask, "Why aren't they running?!" when that classic moment came for the villain to be slowly approaching them without the character noticing. Even as the ending progressed closer, Kuro couldn't help himself. This being his first movie ever, he had no idea the stereotypical tropes of the film industry. And when the climax finally came, Kuro screamed like a little girl before cheering for the inevitable hero to come out on top.
When the film concluded, Kuro stood up, the lights of the theater slowly coming back on to reveal all the popcorn he had accidentally thrown about with all his excited squealing. He coughed, composed himself and looked at William. "You will tell noone of what occurred here..." Kuro's frown was plastered on his face, a little deeper than William might have seen before. He did not like showing his fear. And he definitely did not like this unsightly mess he had made in such a state.
Kuro headed for the exit but upon reaching it, he waited for William. He thought about how much he could learn from this human, possibly a lot more about combat than at the academy. This guy obviously had both hollow fighting experience and hollow energy within him. He could probably take more blows than the average human. And Kuro needed the exercise. He thought hard about possibly asking him to train, but he began getting lost deep in thought about all the possible things he could learn as he stood in the entrance of the movie theater. He hardly noticed the crowd slowly gathering around him and staring at the young man with a sword strapped to his back.
Post by William O, Creed on Nov 14, 2020 8:42:54 GMT -5
Although Kuro didn’t really follow what William had asked him about questions regarding the movie at the same time it wasn’t really the sort of question that William had an issue with either, especially figuring that Kuro had never even seen a movie prior to this. So despite the loud screams and the constant questions more about the horror genre as a whole, he still enjoyed what he had come to see. Although Kuro definitely wouldn’t like knowing that during his biggest fit of fear William may have been a rude awakening by bursting out with louder at the expense of this Shinigami.
Now that the movie was over though William had to think about what else he was going to do today and what Kuro was going to do. He obviously had to return to Soul Society soon, but was he going to wander around Tokyo now? He didn’t know and although Kuro didn’t seem like a bad dude that didn’t mean he couldn’t lead to some negative consequences. Kuro attempted to play off his fear and assert his strength by declaring that no one was to know about what had really happened . . . well William grinning from cheek to cheek doing what he could to contain his laughter. “Sure I don’t think anyone would believe it anyway.”
William after the film was over made sure that he slurped up as much of the soda remaining in the large container as possible. However, he always knew he couldn’t ever finish the large popcorn bucket by the time any movie was over. So he didn’t throw it away. He carried it with him to the bathroom, placing it down by the sink while he relieved himself. Washing his hands and then picking up his junk food once again he made his way to the exit of the theater thoroughly content with how his experience at the movies had been today.
That’s when he saw that Kuro was still here, standing at the exit of the theater with new arrivals walking around him. Some were giving him some pretty big looks knowing that possession of a katana or any real weapon was illegal in Japan. William speed walked over. “Something wrong Kuro? Next time find some way to hide your zanpakuto." William wasn’t sure how he was going to play this off as just a wooden prop katana. Sure he was an officer of the law, but that just meant he was in a worse position to arrest Kuro like a normal person.

Kuro blinked pretty quickly and then, as he looked around, said, "Welcome to the house of horrors! Enjoy the show." He had heard the line during on of the commercials about a haunted house and it seemed to work. People clapped and walked off before he smiled at William widely and then spoke pretty softly. "Sorry. I tend to forget it's not normal to have this everywhere I go. Let's go spar for a bit. I wanna learn what I can from you." He posed it as more of a statement, but he knew he couldn't really force William to do anything. And what was exactly on his mind he felt might hurt William's feelings. He cared about his new friend, and treating him like a book to learn from felt kind of wrong. But Kuro still couldn't pass it up.
Where Kuro led William, if he followed, was with some quick running to the top of an abandoned building. The night sky was crisp, and full of moonlight. Feeling a tinge of cold beginning to overtake the atmosphere, Kuro put up his hood again. The building was that of an abandoned construction project, looking like a building for cubicles and workers. The top of the building was pretty large, it being a perfect square with each side being 50 meters long. This was approximately 164 feet to each side, giving them plenty of space on the roof. In fact, the roof had walls like most modern buildings, just no top. The walls on each edge were ten feet tall to ensure noone could jump from the top of it. Kuro thought this ingenious to add seeing as a lot of worker drones don't exactly last long after a really hard days work. This thought he buried, as he waited for William to arrive through the door he had that went almost like a perfect spiral down through the building as a stairwell, leading directly to the roof.

Thankfully it seemed that Kuro had the wits about him to at least lower the tension in this sort of situation. William didn’t really know whether was a particular good thing or not, but at least for the moment it played to be beneficial. Everyone was moving about their way no longer paying him any mind as they seemed to believe him to more than likely be a theater employee who was simply doing his job. William enclosed on Kuro and didn’t remark nor put up any resistance to the idea of sparring with Kuro.
William knew he was a Shinigami and thus would have some sort of training when it came to combat. He also knew that Kuro wasn’t a full fledge Shinigami yet which meant that his skills might not be up to snuff in order to bring down the typical Hollow. However, Kuro had claimed he believed that much he would be able to handle and gave quite a bit of confidence about while he had declared it earlier. So now it was just time to essentially test Kuro himself and see just how well this Shinigami would be able to handle himself in an actual fight.
The building wasn’t a bad choice that much William would have to agree with as it would allow them to spar one another without the preying eyes of those around questioning. So now that both of them were on the roof of this building William just had to wonder, was Kuro going to use his zanpakuto. If yes then this fight wasn’t going to be easy yet if not it probably wouldn’t be easy either. William was aware of his diminished skills and knew he wouldn’t be able to do much against the kido of a Shinigami. “Alright well show me what you’ve got then Kuro.”
