Kaen Youji. The man when presenting himself before her made her question her existence and place within the squadron, if only because she felt too weak to be a proper seated officer. The Seireitei was filled with many echelons of Shinigami fledglings that were looking to make their mark, and she didn't want to be the bottom scrape of the barrel. She wanted to be the top dog. She wanted to be the apex, the pinnacle. It was what every aspiring Shinigami should desire, for she had no want to be content with her basic position.
Why one might ask? Because Hikari's ambitions to uphold the law and maintain the code of conduct was something that expanded beyond being a simple officer. That was evident by how hard she trained and pushed her body. "If people admired others for the sole merit of their talent and ability, then perhaps those people should do their homework. Admiration of strength in my opinion should be secondary to the admiration of character." That said, she'd remain silent for a moment, turning towards Kaen, Yuna between the both of them so it might seem.
Pause...Pause as she looks upon Yuna. "It's not necessarily dying that people fear. It's the manner of how they die, and what they've been able to accomplish in life." She notes that, and with it, she remembered her time with that monster . She seemed to be an optimist, someone that had high and good hopes for the future. Angel wouldn't pop that bubble here. Instead, she'd reminisce of how at one point or another, the Seireitei as well as its general forces stood in a far better position than they were now.
Captains as of recent had come and gone. Blood had been spilled from the invasions of Kuroi and his Mod Souls, as well as general conflicts on a daily basis. Shinigami at this point in time were being run and thriving not from the majority, but instead handfuls of exceptional individuals. That wasn't good enough for her. It was why in part that Hikari had felt dedicated to training hard, to be an exceptional, and at times, to perhaps train the new into becoming the same. That was why she was here. She remained silent.
"...If you're going to be sparring with a newly unseated officer, you should be getting some challenge yourself. Youji-Sama." Momentarily tilting herself, shifting her balance to her left foot, she takes a deep breath. "A quarter of your strength is what you told me I was at before...How shameful. To help this new recruit grow a bit better, perhaps I could assist you both. I won't be fighting against either of you, but I imagine I'll be throwing in obstacles inbetween. If you'd so be pleased by that notion."
