Truth be told, Ludwig was right. Yoko had pushed herself to the edge of her capabilities, if only for a moment. That was the nature of impact, and that was the power level that had been demanded of her by her opponent. He hadn’t been someone that she could toy around with. As it stood, their fight had actually ended without either of them landing a proper unmitigated blow on the other, but her body had begun to ache a bit. It was nothing that she couldn’t tolerate, but she had to admit that she was grateful for the respite from combat at that moment. Though her body would have held out for some time longer, it could only go full tilt for so long before it crumbled.
What she hadn’t expected was the kind offer from her sparring partner to share his refreshments. She was quick to decline, not because she didn’t want it, but because such things were far more special to a Shinigami than they were to her. ”I’ll manage with a protein shake from the fridge, but thanks.” More of note than her words was her tone. Whereas before she had spoken to Ludwig with an affect that bordered on disgust, she had become genuinely warm, as if she spoke to an old friend. To her, that was what she now saw Ludwig as. They had bonded through combat, and could trust each other. At least that was how she felt.
The pair of them made their way back over to the lockers outside the training room proper, and Yoko popped open the one that belonged to her. She took off the hoody she’d had on through their match, as truth be told she had worked up a sweat. In fact she was warm enough that her top went off as well, leaving her in naught but her sports bra, shorts, and thigh highs. As always, Yoko saw no problem with this whatsoever. She didn’t ever picture herself as an object of sexual desire. She was hot, yes, but that was because she had just finished a good workout, not because her body was exposed.
Without much of a fuss, the two of them ended up in the elevator. It was strange. Normally she got a weird look or something when she did stuff like this, but instead Ludwig asked her about Uzaki Enterprises. ”I suppose you’ll get a different answer depending on who you ask, but the safe answer to say is that my side of things exists to ensure the survival and safety of mankind against any and all threats, be they from ourselves or others. Some would call us heroes. Others would call us half-ass Shinigami. Others still would call us a public menace with all the collateral damage we cause. In my eyes, we are no more than soldiers in a war where the enemy changes daily. It’s no different from counter-insurgency operations that are fought with guns and tanks.”
After a few moments the elevator reached the main floor, and the two of them disembarked and made their way to the exit of the building. As she often did, Yoko ignored the eyes of a few men that lingered on her as she walked through the lobby. She had long since stopped caring what the normies thought. Instead her attention was on Ludwig, and on his sincere kindness. She had to admit, she really liked his personality. ”Well I think it’s safe to say that you’re welcome back here if you wish to learn more. It was a pleasure to meet you Ludwig, and I have no doubts that you’ll knock some sense into your subordinate.”
She paused in the doorway before a final goodbye was offered. The feeling she had towards Ludwig was one she hadn’t felt in a while. What was it? It was neither lust nor love, though she thought it was at first. No, it was comfort. Despite all his power, Ludwig didn’t feel like a threat. He was the kind of person that Yoko felt like she could actually be herself around. Part of herself just happened to have no shame. ”And if you ever need some help taking care of yourself, feel free to swing by for that as well.” She didn’t really dig the sideburns, but in her mind, she could get over that because of how relaxed she felt around him. Though her offer wasn’t as obvious as others might make it, she was completely willing to fuck his brains out.
Of course, as all things in life tended to go, she turned her back and headed towards her desk job, completely unaware that Ludwig was gay. Tough luck Yoko. Maybe next time.
