"Anything? I haven't really thought about that. I'm still just trying to get through each week. I like math. I like problem solving. I like helping people where I see injustice. I'm really happy here for now. I love using my skills for something practical. I just miss my family and everyone at home." She chuckled. "But they would definitely kill me if they knew how much danger I've been in lately." The lack of a protective, supportive network forced Irina to make her own responsible decisions, really for the first time in her life. It was good for her. It was stretching her, making her grow. She would keep doing so, at least if she didn't get herself killed in the process of learning how much danger was too much.
She missed the hit over to her side, and picked it up and served it back over, mentally tallying a point in Kazura's favor. She would pay better attention next time. Not that it would help if Kazura used his full force. Nonetheless, she would give it a good try. She always loved competing with people faster or stronger or more skilled than she. It helped her work at her best. "Okay, if I could do anything fun, not something serious or long-term, I'd go to the next Olympics. I don't need to compete in it; I just want to go. I've always loved them," she said, lighting up.
"I love the colors, I love the impossible-seeming feats everyone accomplishes. I love the stories of what the athletes have overcome. My favorite part is when everyone in the audience starts cheering for the athletes of their country. Everyone is so different, but they all have one hope and one goal. I love the team work. It's amazing. It's inspiring." Twice a year, she had been obsessed with the Olympics, ever since she was a little girl. "What about you? Are you doing what you've always dreamed of?" It wasn't a light topic of conversation. It had been a while since she had the opportunity to discuss something so personal.
