Location: 68th Southern District of Rukongai in a small compact village surrounded by woodland, time is late evening and darkness has set in. Most denizens were just about to head to sleep prior to attack.
Special Conditions: A 24 hour schedule has been imposed, if Valentin is engaged by an RPC this widens to a 48 hour schedule to account for OOC time restrictions. If it has been 48 hours since the last post, Valentin will post and any unaddressed actions will follow through at his discretion.

(...what? totally didn't steal it from Santa, nope, absolutely not. Okay it was a cool condition...)

Circumstances: Valentin, a Class 5 Hollow is on the prowl.

Valentin could feel it, stuffed to the brim with the souls of his kin he could feel his evolution nearing the next stage. But despite this fullness his voracious appetite had only grown larger with every meal and for that reason in his unreasonable hunger he chose to take a risk. Killing other hollows was fine and well but rarely did they congregate in large numbers and they had this annoying habit of fighting back and often did so quite dangerously. No, that amount of effort for such a small payoff simply wasn't worth it in his state.

Instead he had his eyes set on the densely packed towns of Rukongai, particularly the high number districts which were low in Shinigami presence and little more than slums or in Hollow terms a smorgasbord of former pluses with plenty of spiritual energy to be had. On this lovely late evening with the sun setting he had chosen the 68th southern district for his hunting ground although he had no idea the area was called as such as to him it was just a slum akin to a can of tightly packed sardines for him to consume with glee.

Two white clawed hands appeared from seemingly nothing and tore an opening in the the very air, a black rift opening up and the demon masked hollow within stepped out with the rift closing behind him as soon as his whole being was past. His raptor-like feet feeling the trampled soil beneath him and his eyes gazing out over his surroundings he recognized his current position as a small woodland path and following it beyond but a few trees was his goal, a ramshackle slum of a village where he could see people going barefoot too poor to even wear sandals wearing clothes that had seen far better days.

Could he with his mask have grinned he would have done so, alas the only trace of his satisfaction was a low almost mocking chuckle for what was eventually to occur. He took a moment to observe from the edge of the forest, the skies darkening many had begun returning to their homes and that would make the hunt so much easier for him. Waiting until nearly all had entered whatever homes they had as his stomach whined and rumbled in protest to his patience he stalked closer with his body low made easier by his lizard-like shape.

Prowling through high grass he was still too large to approach completely unseen should someone have looked closer in his direction but with the aid of darkness and the fact that most were about to lay their heads to rest he made the distance unseen as he shortly after snuck up to the nearest building which appeared to be a small sized structure of wood, not that most houses in Rukongai were built of anything else to start with. Regardless now standing tall he pulled his arm back, clenched his clawed fist and punched into the wood of the structure with his full might.

Blowing the wall he struck to bits in a loud crash and sending it's shrapnel flying at the inhabitants inside with one being impaled by the flying rubble. Quickly he swept inside as one still among the living and conscious screamed for his life either from the loud bang or because of the monster who now approached him. ''Shh! you wouldn't want to wake your neighbors would you? that's just rude!'' the hollow jested somewhat pained in low voice to end his suffering before a swipe of his claws sliced the man open before he had a chance to get out of his shocked state and sprayed the interior of the building red with blood.

He would have preferred if the both of them had died instantly for he loathed the crying and the despair that they let out but at least he had struck them down before they resorted to begging, normally this was the reason he didn't go after pluses but his hunger rang louder than his conscience tonight. One by one he finished off the stragglers with a quick thrust with one of his claws straight for their hearts as he then began to feed upon all inside, soon enough the village became loud with worry and the smoldering embers of torches approaching the house from whence the loud noises had come that spoiled their rest and sent them to worry.

''You guys know what that was?'' one of the men with torches asked as they approached the door, another wielding a stolen Asauchi replying with a modicum of experience ''Bandits don't make such noise, they'd have slit our throats if they could.'' what he hinted at was obvious but most didn't want to admit that he was likely right, so far out it was not unheard of hollows appearing now and then. It was for that reason that they dared keep weapons hidden from the Shinigami, the soul reapers much too often arrived late when family and friends already lay slain. 

''S- so you think it's...'' the torch wielding man could barely speak, even taking a step back as courage began to fail him. ''Most likely but don't shit yourself just yet, hollow are dull witted.'' he turned around and gave his neighbor a roguish smile ''This ain't my first rodeo, I've killed 'em before and i can do it ag-'' he was cut short as his head along with one other found themselves separated in the middle, the chopped off part slowly sliding off as blood soon after gushed and spurted at the others.

A large tear had suddenly formed horizontally from the house and the cowardly torchbearer shrieked in terror having felt a sharp appendage just barely flecking off skin from his nose as he fell to the ground in surprise, landing on his bum as he had narrowly avoided what he thought to be a bladed whip. He tightly gripped the Asauchi from the dead man's hands and pulled it to his side with his free arm, pointing the blade towards the building while raising the torch high to illuminate the threat ''S- Stay away! I've got a sword!'' he gasped in panic while others whom had been further back high tailed it out of there screaming about hollow to alert all.

From the house came only laughter, a dark and cynical laughter as two clawed hands together broke the wall apart and had the hollow exit into the light ''I've got ten of them.'' it said simply as it showed off it's long claws for a second before impaling them into the fright paralyzed man, his eyes growing dim within the second. The immediate threat eliminated once more he fed although this time with an audience of horrified faces looking through springs and windows thinking themselves invisible to him, foolishness. They would most certainly be next, there was still plenty of space for them in his gut.

Unhindered he licked the blood soiled teeth of his mask as his eyes wandered to those windows where fools resided too cowardly to even run for their lives. It did bother him a little, life was and has always been a struggle and for those who yet live to simply stop struggling and accept death were odd to him. Perhaps that train of thought didn't fit in with this specific scenario but this was not the first time Valentin had been witness to people remaining within the maws of death even when death is generous enough to let them escape should they only lift their feet and act.

Shaking his head over the philosophical matter he lumbered forth with step after step as the village grew increasingly loud and more and more lights flickered up in the distance. No longer did the eyes peer out from the window where they had once most carelessly observed him but he had an inkling they were still close, it was almost as if they had never watched a horror movie, never hide in the building you were spotted at. Breaking down the door simply by pushing the flat of his palm against it he squeezed into the crammed building to have himself a look-see as he felt a jabbing pain in his back.

Looking behind him were two girls both holding onto a single spear, having thrust it against his ribcage in attempt to pierce his heart as tears ran from their eyes. However the blow was nowhere strong enough to reach and the weapon of poor quality left only a surface level flesh wound. Quite annoyed with their bravery he snapped the spear like a dry twig and slammed the two of them with the back of his hand into a wall, reducing most of their torsos into little more than red paste and broken bones.

Befouled he pulled the metal tip out of his body and watched as his flesh shut itself back together again and pulsed with the reiatsu he forced to it and not long after there wasn't so much as a scar. ''Brave girls, much too brave. You should have run and i would not have minded'' he spoke to himself as the girls had already died on impact from the crushing blow he had delivered, plucking their still somewhat intact heads from the messy piles that is their bodies he threw them within his maw as he exited the building from the same way he came.

But as he exited into the night the flames from one of the dropped torches from earlier betrayed a glint of steel and instinctively he threw one of his arms forwards to block the blow, the carapace of his claw too strong to be cut by this interloper. Having blocked the blow he swinged his arm forth to swat the menace but it dodged his simple attack by simply jumping backwards before any force could be applied. ''Ichiro Takune, unseated officer of the seventh squad. I come to strike you down foul beast!'' oh great, Valentin thought he picked this spot to avoid Shinigami so why in the bloody hell was there one before him now?

Apparently lady luck either hated him or he was just shit at planning, it was one of the two options and either one would be a not too serious jab at his feelings. ''Valentin Acciai, connoisseur of most things red and meaty, neither am i seated for there are no chairs my size.'' Valentin dryly replied to the broken record machine, like pretty much everyone else tired of Shinigami proudly trying to measure dicks in the middle of a fight. This comment however seemed to offend his Shinigami friend here whom Valentin could see clearly now once back to adjusting to the darkness.

Bushy black hair with a thin and equally black goatee, dude looked more like a punk than he did a soul reaper as he was also wearing a pair of round pink tinted glasses that 100% belonged in the 90s where they ought to have stayed. His face whom had initially been stern and serious betrayed a barely contained anger over having been mocked for merely introducing himself to an opponent. A moment later the Shinigami dashed at Valentin with sword raised to strike, Once more Valentin swung his claw to fend the attacker off and once more the attack was dodged although the large sweeping motions Valentin made forced the Shinigami to halt his own attack.

''While it could be fun to play back and forth for a bit i'm sorta busy with all of this killing and all... please go away?'' the hollow tried to excuse to which the reply was harsh ''Hah! my blows do harm you! prepare to die craven!'' ''Fine, suit yourself.'' This time the Shinigami was not given time to lead an attack. Instead it was Valentin who went on the offensive, having leaped with every ounce of muscle in his legs to dash forth at surprising speed, the Shinigami tried to cut at him but was not able to thrust his sword downward fast enough to strike with any real force behind the blow before he was impaled atop of the horns of the hollow's horns, gargling blood as his internal organs had met an untimely fate.

''I did give you a choice, mighty kind of me i'd say'' '''GhhrgHHLlllh' Shortly after Valentin grabbed onto the soul reapers arms, tearing them off from his body and throwing them inside his maw to chew on as he mused the idea of delimbed Shinigami torsos as headwear for hollow fashion but quickly dismissed it. It probably looked awful and the smell was already bad without the rot, quickly throwing the carcass off his body before the blood had a chance to make a mess of the fur on his upper torso.

How very Noisy....

Nola had been out on patrol of the rukongai's outter areas. She had been deployed to Area 80 in accordance with the soul society's attempts to find and collect contraban. A number of Rukongai citizens had been identified as stealing Soul Society's property. Little did they know that every single Asauchi was tracked by soul society. So it wasn't that hard to go from village to village confiscating them. It simply took a little longer than one might hope to get around to all of them.

It was very lucky for this particular Village that Nola was burning the midnight oil, her eyes narrowing as she heard the noise of the crash and shake of the commotion from afar. It took only a moment for her to make her way over, scanning her surroundings as she began to identify the problem. A hollow. And a dead shinigami being consumed before her very eyes. She let in a slow, steady breath as she approached the hollow from behind, sneaking as she did so. Presumably, most hollow weere quite sneaky, but generally most of them did not take the time to try and learn how to catch those that were hiding.

Without actually using her release or making noise, it was easy for her to move up behind them. She could have been faster...bolder...probably saved the shinigami if she had been there just an instant earlier. But that didn't matter now did it? The shinigami was dead. At the very least, the man's sacrifice would not be in vain. Nola's needle-like blade pulled from her scabbard. The blade was a literal needle, so there was no edge to scrape against the sides, it pulled free effortlessly as she moved in and then lunged, aiming to drive the tip of the weapon clean into the hollow's spine from behind.

Admittedly while her own strength was not very firm, she did have the jump on them, and hopefully that blade would at the very least slide it's way into the hollow's spine, at least enough to try and cripple it. She knew that she still didn't have an enormous repertoir of attacks and the like, but that didn't change the face that she was confident in her ability to win. She was a monster, one that even Sozen had been afraid to attack directly. Reasonably, it should be enough to deal with this beast.

Distracted as he was he figured he must have developed one mighty troublesome habit as he was once more stabbed in the back and this time howling in pain as it struck deep, but a mere inch away from his spine whatever had struck at him having glanced off course slightly when coming in contact with the spines poking out from his back. ''WHOO DARES!'' he quickly lashed out in anger as he turned his head to see the interloper and raised his arms in attempt to block any attack to his head whilst his long, barbed tail attempted with all haste to coil around his foe while their weapon was still inside his body and try to restrain them before any further injury could be made to him.

Should he fail to catch them or somehow be the one to receive another blow then he would lash hit tail horizontally against the opponent in attempt to swat them through a few buildings whilst simultaneously using one of his claws to fling a handful of dirt from the ground at the general direction of the opponent to make room to come up with a plan as he would back off. If he were to be severely outmatched he would retreat into his Ulcera in attempt to use the darkness of the night to his advantage and reappear a short distance away behind a building where he would take a moment to hide and think of a plan. During the time all of this progressed his injury would start to close itself like the one prior and he would remind himself to keep an eye on watch as the next strike might be more likely to pierce something vital which would be far more costly for him to repair if he even could, a brain would be a bit too difficult to replace even for him.

She watched as that tail snaked in, attempting to wrap around her body. And she simply narrowed her eyes, her hand snapping out and latching onto that tail as it attempted to wrap around her. The moment those spikes slammed into her palm there was a reaction, immediately massive puncture wounds, as if the hollow were the one being stabbed, peppered all the way up the hollow's tail as well as bursting across the hollow's body as the incredibly powerful force of her spiritual pressure caused a massive recoil, riddling the hollow's body with injuries.

With an upward snap of her wrist, long, slender strands of reishi formed along her fingertips. sweeping upward as she pumped reiatsu into the attack. Those strings, a solid ten meters in length, connected from her fingertips and lashed out. Using her superior speed, she would wrap those strings up around the hollow's body, aiming to entangle them. Using this, it would eliminate the beast's ability to escape. Ulcera could not be used to escape bindings, and as such the hollow would not be able to just pull away. And if they tried, they would find that those threads were incredibly sharp, and if he pulled hard enough, with all of his strength, then those threads would slice clean through his body, no doubt severing limbs and hacking into his body, crippling him anyway. But at the very least, he would be able to use ulcera and crawl away in that space between worlds.

Nola considered using her shikai, it was a hollow after all that had managed to kill a shinigami. She didn't know them personally, but that still spoke volumes for how dangerous this thing was. She had to be especially careful. And IF the Hollow managed to get away, she would immediately put her back up against one of the buildings. Even with her high spiritual pressure, there WERE types of attacks that would still injure her. She could not allow herself to lower her guard. Alteste Groll was already hissing at her, and in her mind she could feel them trying to interfere, but for now, she remained in control.

If she could even drive the hollow off, then that would be an accomplishment in itself. If she could kill it? Even better. But one thing she could not allow would be to allow it to eat her. She would be forced to obliterate the hollow if it proved too dangerous. So she kept her Zanpaku'to at hand, and those razor-like threads active. To either keep the hollow restrained, or at the ready if it had managed to escape.

Technique Description and Effects (Explain appearance, powers, and effect): This technique is much more refined and eloquent than the other methods of Advanced Air Arsenal. This technique, rather than generating large structures, instead focuses on the production of condensed and fortified strings of reishi. Wether it's to help wire a trap, to manipulate a far-off object, or just to tie someone up, these threads are very useful.
At class 8, these threads are well...threads. They are considered to have an offensive durability of 25 and anyone with the physical strength to lift themselves off the ground can generally break these strings without any effort. There is nothing particularly special about these strings, other than that the fact that they have such a thin reishi composition and structure that they have literally zero reiatsu signature and can only be sensed physically through sight.

At class 7, these strings gain some utility. The strings can be manipulated by the user and have an offensive durability of 100, increasing by 100 for each class beyond this one (a maximum of 700 durability at class 1).

At class 5, these strings are more than just tools. In addition to being able to be used for a variety of common jobs, these threads actually have the spiritual durability to cut into materials they are braced against. However, due to their thinness, the cutting power of the thread is inferior to it's actual durability, boasting a mere cutting power of 275 at class 5, increasing by 75 per class ( 350 at class 4, 425 at class 3, 500 at class 2, 575 at class 1).

Finally, at class 2, these strings are pretty high-quality. Not only improving in durability and cutting power, but also holding the power to be spiritually conductive, allowing the user to channel other techniques through the strings as though they were an extension of the user's body.

Technique Drawbacks Reiatsu cost. Additionally, these strings can only last up to 5 posts, increasing to 10 posts at proficcient, and 15 posts at mastered.

His attack should have worked, having been struck from behind his tail ought to have been able to crush the bastard that dared stab him for the second time of the night. Instead he held his breath as a wave of pain struck him as his tail tore up and numerous wounds arose from all over his body, the hell happened to him? she didn't even strike him. Momentarily stuck in shock there was no chance for him to escape as those weird threads of hers bound him in place and although he struggled to come loose it appeared hopeless. All gained from it being a sliver of blood trickling down along one of the threads.

''Damn it allll'' the hollow uncharacteristically whined as he tugged against his restraints with gaze focused on the red woman. Earlier he had complained over the soul reapers general introductions being such a bore but not yet having received one and instead being ambushed, which is an infinitely smarter move he would agree it still sort of annoyed him. It broke a habit he had become accustomed to during his brief encounters with their kind. ''Well what are you waiting for? introductions! I can't bloody get loose anyhow without turning myself into an invalid. So, your name, please?''

Was he dragging out on time in order to lick his wounds? of course he was, every second that passed and his wounds were a little smaller. Still an injury of this size and multitude, it would take more time than he was comfortable with. Despite any attempts thus far his tail was limp to the ground and dripping with blood, the muscle groups far too injured to be of any use for now. He might be able to stave off the bleeding relatively soon but repairing the inner mechanisms would be the lengthy part.

On the bright side his earlier stab wound had healed, however that thing was so insignificant compared to his current injuries that it wasn't even funny to compare ''Y'know, all i'm trying to do here is speed up my evolution a wee bit. Can feel it in my very bones that i'm just a step away from becoming one of them big Gillian freaks so i'm pretty fuckin hungry to get it over with and you Shinigami coming all the long way to this shithole of a village just to bother me i don't take very kindly to at all.'' he ranted quite truthfully ''I kindly asked the last fellow to sod off, he didn't and he died. At least be a good sport and allow me the same deal will you? i very much like living i'll have you know and would like to continue doing so.''

Not too pleased with asking kindness from an enemy he didn't expect to get any either, should she make any sudden or aggressive move against him then screw his injured limbs, he would force his way through the damnable strings even if it meant his limbs being cut off and flee into an Ulcera as quick as he could. from there worming his way inside a building as fast as he could while he was still within the realm of screams and out of range from whatever that dreadful ability it was the woman possessed. He never remembered encountering any shinigami that strong before.

Nola honestly wasn't sure about why exactly it was so hard. Something about killing... it had always been difficult. Injuring something she knew was just a tortured soul. It wasn't JUST the fact that she was softhearted. It wasn't just that she had some sort of weakness. It was the fact that for as long as she could remember, she could taste people's memories. Back when she was just a soul. Before she even had a zanpaku'to. She'd had a sort of taste, whenever someone was angry, or determined. She could feel just a little of what it was that made them so focused. The reason they got so angry or sad.

She could tell that they had reasons for what they were doing. And the fact of the matter was that there wasn't evil laced around. Even those with cruelty in their hearts had something deep inside of them that she could sense. And every time she fought, she realized it was a scale. Their determination, and her own. Their reasons. And hers. And not once had she ever been able to think that she had more of a reason to live than something else. She always...GAVE herself reasons. Made them up.

As the hollow begged for his life, or rather...tried to reason. She felt it. She couldn't actually consciously understand what she was feeling. It was just an emotion. Frustration. Hunger. Just the byproducts of the memories, even if she didn't have personal access to them. And from there the lies just piled on. But.... with the hollow staring at her. Demanding an introduction... she felt...different. There WAS something on hr side. A memory, that even if it wasn't really hers, even if it was stolen. There was something there at least. A smile that she wanted to see. Those eyes of hers glowed a vicious icy blue as she yanked on the threads, cutting deeper into the hollow as she kept that needle of her zanpaku'to dug into the beast's flesh.

"Alte Furcht."

The air suddenly was heavy with her spiritual pressure, and the needle did.......nothing. Nothing seemed to change. The pressure was still surging around Nola, she was clearly released, but it was still stagnant. She didn't seem to change. Nothing had been summoned. It didn't even seem like a shikai But something HAD changed. Two charges sparked in her mind, her Zanpaku'to was touching the hollow when she released, and so it gained tow charges. Furthermore, she lunged, aiming to sink that zanpaku'to into the hollow's chest. Only this time, with her release, that needle's cutting power was suddenly tremendous. And it would slice through the hollow's body like butter, as if it had suddenly become insanely sharp, driving up and in, aiming to carve that needle into the beast's head through it's body, aiming to cut the entire front of the monster's body open in the process.

Of course given the way Val was prepared, IF he decided to truly struggle and aim to tear his body through the wire, he would likely manage to, with great difficulty, given the mental fortitude and agony of forcing one's self through razor-like wire, but eventually he would succeed, if he so decided to force himself, the hollow managing to crawl into an ulcera as Nola would then back herself up against the side of the nearest structure, alert, and ready to respond to another sneak attack.

Well wasn't she the rudest thing he had ever met, she went for the killing blow with only uttering some nonsensical phrase and not a word more. None the less he was not too interested in actually dying so as her weapon fell upon him he struggled for dear life to pull away from the she-monster. He howled loudly from the pain as threads dug into flesh and broke bones. Narrowly he had pulled himself out of lethal range but lost a shoulder and part of his torso downwards, baring his left lung to the open air still expanding and shrinking in unison to his pained breaths whilst the threads themselves tore off both of his arms, a leg and his tail.

Despite that in his howling of pain there was relief as his remaining leg thrust him away from danger and into the shifting black void of the ulcera he opened. He would not resurface to strike her again. Had he been the one to strike first he might’ve had a chance but now? He was far, far too injured to accomplish anything. As quickly as he came out of his ulcera he entered another, over and over until he left that Village far behind. One day he would repay this insult to his pride, but to match such a monster it would certainly be a while.

Seconds......minutes... As the time ticked on, it became clear that the hollow wasn't coming back. And as the village began to react to what had happened, she slowly relaxed, sighing as it seemed that she had succeeded in driving the hollow away. It wasn't a permanent solution. And admittedly, she could still use her charges to catch up to the hollow. But she had no idea where it was, and recklessly using her zanpaku'to would be a good way to end up somewhere she didn't want to be.

Turning her attention to the villagers, it seemed her heroism had had mixed results. While some seemed very genuinely glad for her actions, happy that a shinigami had made it so far out into the rukongai to help them, others were less than pleased. Specifically those whose family had died. And what was worse? She was forced to take the asauchi from them. She assured them that they would be fine, that she would make sure that they have the ability to get help. But it was a lie.

They were so far away from soul society, that she knew damn well if a hollow attacked again, they were all going to die. Even worse, they wouldn't have the asauchi this time to protect themselves. She gave them the absolute best advice she could; to join the Academy. It was a free meal ticket, and it meant being safe. They could even come back and keep their loved ones safe. But they didn't see it as advice. Even as she tried to reason with them, it was just worse. They saw her as the hand of soul society. Taking away the ability to protect themselves, and giving assimilation as a way out.

She was booed as she left the village. Forced to ignore the sounds of sobbing children and wives, of angry fathers, brthers, and husbands. The anguish of people that had been hiding hope for survival underneath their floorboards. And in her hands, she carried that hope with her. To the gotei. And away from them. She had driven a hollow away. She had avended the death of a fellow shinigami. She should have been feeling good. But that wasn't the world she lived in. The rukongai was a horrible place to try and feel good. In the world of the living, at least there was the prospect that another hollow would be very unlikely to hit the same place.

But out here...at the edge. You were either far enough out that you had to worry about the beast clan. Or you were on the edge where the hollows loved to feed. And the law was the law. Even if she had let them keep their weapons. The chances were they still wouldn't make it. And she'd be arrested. No matter what she did, she was a bad guy. All she'd done was chosen the option that sucked the least for herself.
