A certain snake had been crawling through the freezing snow shivering. She hated this weather and was searching for any way to get warm. Getting on a boat from Japan to Russia and waiting eight hours was making her exhausted. The snow everywhere was making her absolutely miserable and irritated. It was high time she ate something. She had trudged her way through the small town of Choksbary as she would see humans walking back and forth through the streets talking, carrying gifts, laughing while she was having such a bad time. Enough. They may not be spiritually rich, but they were still something! It happened to be there was an elderly man walking through the street with a gift in hand for one of his family members. Shame he happened to be targeted by the beast.
She had grabbed the man with her tail before quickly wrapping around him like a boa constrictor. The man screamed as he seemed to be twisting and was contorted in front of many other people. People would scream in surprise although some would approach the man wanting to help. The snake at this moment twisted the elderly man's neck as a golden pocket watch had fallen into the snow. The old body would be lifted into the air as then...the humans would see his body disappear in mid air. People stepped backwards murmuring before suddenly the hollow in her anger swung her tail broke the window of a nearby shop. The clerk inside, a man wearing the name tag named, Zee had been more angry than scared from the fact that the floor he just cleaned was now covered in broken glass and products.
People ran screaming as a certain Irina may be able to see the Hollow in the middle of the road howling loudly. The snake in the snow was a dark green with a snake like mask appearance. It would have six small holes along the sides of the mask with two large fangs protruding from her mouth. Her mask near the top was pointed having two small nubs for horns. Her eyes at the moment were a shining red in rage as she absolutely HATED the cold. As a jeep had been driving down the road, it had swerved to the side crashing into a lamp post as the horde of people running had caused it to turn. Would Irina be able to set everything straight in her current position of strength?
The Hollow had looked left and right looking for any straggling humans to attack, but had seen most if not all were too far gone already. Guerrero was still hungry for blood and her mood wasn't improving much at all. The store she had happened to break the window of was a general goods store, and inside were a variety of weapons for Irina to grab such as knives, a firearm, and ever so luckily enough, there was a sword located within the very back of the store. The hollow was too busy trying to chase the humans escaping from their car as they suddenly felt 200 some pounds climb on the hood shattering the glass. As the humans ran, she would then slowly turn...actually feeling a little better as the smoke from the jeep engine warmed her slightly. There she would see Irina face to face as the hollow did not look happy for Christmas whatsoever.
It would be a faceoff between the human and the Hollow as she had much to be weary about. Just from looking at the beast, she should be able to sense that this was not an average Hollow and was not meant to be underestimated. Guerrero was a Gillian class, and while in the Hollow world that wasn't saying much, she was still rather strong in her own rights. The Hollow would stare at her with cold emotionless eyes as she was starving. Guerrero from looking at Irina would be able to sense generally that she had more spiritual energy than the normal ones, and that she would be VERY good for eating. So she would fight for her food.

Home for Christmas, finally! Actually, Irina had threatened her best friend Altan that she wouldn’t come home for her break from school at all, but of course, she couldn’t stay away from home too long. She loved her hometown. Loved the cobble-stone walkways in the east side, loved knowing each of her neighbors, loved the smell of her Babushka’s cooking pouring out of the kitchen window, and loved the invigorating cold outside. She had told her parents that her flight would arrive on Thursday, but she managed to catch an earlier one, and had Altan pick her up from the airport so she could surprise them.
Oh, Altan. She wasn’t quite sure how she was going to mend the bridge with that young man. Of course, her life-long companion had agreed to pick her up from the airport as she requested. She suspected that he took off work to do so, as it was a Tuesday afternoon, and he typically worked at this time. The endlessly patient young man worked four days per week as a technical support agent in a call center, which allowed him flexible-enough hours to go to college full-time. Irina knew that she would not be able to manage his job; from the stories that he told her, she would simply have too little patience to politely handle the condescending attitudes and ridiculous requests of some of his customers.
She had talked with Altan while in Japan, of course. They generally video chatted on her walk to class on Wednesday mornings, and would text each other with funny anecdotes, just like they had shared all their funny moments since they were babies. She couldn’t stay away from him for too long, no matter how strained things had become between them. She loved Altan, that was for sure. She could tell, she supposed, because she was more concerned about him than she was about herself. Her heart leapt with joy when he succeeded, and felt crushed when he was sad. Sure, she loved Altan. But that didn’t mean he should have proposed marriage to her!
Altan picked her up from the airport in his old pickup truck with chains on the tires for the snow. He smiled warmly and collected her in his arms in a big hug when she met him in the airport. ”It’s good to see you,” he said, squeezing her tightly before letting her go. Not very comfortable with hugging, Altan was one of the few people whom Irina allowed to do this. ”It’s so good to see you too, Alt,” she replied, eyes crinkling with happiness to be with her best friend again. They made their way out of the busy Kazan airport and to the parking lot.
The snow, which fell to the ground gently in huge chunks, was gorgeous. She missed real winter while in Japan. It simply didn’t get quite cold enough for her in Karakura Town. She happily stuck her tongue out to catch a snowflake before she climbed up in the truck. Irina and Altan chatted effortlessly about their adventures while apart as he carefully navigated the roads toward home. Irina hardly ever trusted anyone as a driver, and often preferred to take the wheel herself. With Altan, however, she was always comfortable.
As they got closer to her home, Irina felt a fluttering in her chest, as she got increasingly excited to see her family. Her sweet mama, her feisty Babushka. Her patient Papa, her quietly mischievous Dedushka. She imagined that when she arrived, mama would be preparing supper. Papa would be reading some documents for work by the fire, which he always kept going in the winter. It gave the house a warm, earthy smell that made Irina feel right at home. Her grandparents Babushka and Dedushka might come over for supper. Irina’s mother reasoned that there was no sense in both sectors of the family cooking every night when they lived right down the street, so they often shared meals.
Irina’s older brother Demyan would be home from school for the holiday. He had stayed at his college’s campus last year until the week of Christmas, but he was dating a girl in Cheboksary, so Irina knew he would spend as much time close to her as possible. Demir, twenty years old, had gotten out of technical school to become a mechanic 8 months previously, and was living with their parents while he finished some additional certifications for working on diesel engines and motorcycles. Irina adored her two older brothers, who managed to pick on her just enough to keep things interesting. She hoped to get a chance to greet Demir by sneaking up to chuck a snowball at him. Hopefully he would be outdoors, but she supposed it wouldn’t matter. Mama would just laugh, happy to see her daughter, so long as they cleaned up the wet mess.
Altan parked the truck by his house, and they stopped in to see Altan’s mother. She hugged Irina tightly, marveled over how “grown up” she looked, even though she had only been gone for five months, and teared up as she told Irina how proud she was. When they were through with their greetings, Irina promised to return the next day, and Altan’s mother promised not to tell Irina’s parents that she had arrived home early.
As she walked with Altan in the snow, the pair still chatting lightly, Irina’s phone buzzed in her pocket. Was it Mama? Did she know she was home? Irina always felt that her mother had a sixth sense about the location of her children. No, it was an alert letting her know that a Hollow was in her area. She could swear she left her phone in airplane mode. Must be something back in Japan. Well, there was nothing she could do about any Hollows all the way over there. She put the phone back in her pocket without looking at the map.
Hearing the commotion to the east in the shopping district, Irina focused her attention to the area. She pulled her phone back out. She kicked herself mentally for not being more careful earlier. Of course, the screams she heard were in the direction that her phone indicated a Hollow’s presence. She had no intentions of letting Altan know about any of the spiritual warfare she had been involved with as of late. She had to get rid of him.
”You know, Alt, you should go home. I can take it from here,” she said, trying hard to sound casual. He looked at her quizzically. He had always walked her home from most everything, and not to mention, spent a lot of time at her family’s home, even when she wasn’t present. Why? Are you okay? And anyway, don’t you want to go check out what all of the screaming over there is about?”
He knew her too well: of course she wanted to check out what the screaming was about. Even if she couldn’t help the people involved with whatever was going on, she was insatiably curious. She just couldn’t risk having him find out about her newfound abilities, and especially about the danger she was involved with. ”No, I’m just tired. I want to walk by myself,” she lied badly. ”It’s good to see you, it really is,” she added, seeing his face fall. She had already hurt him enough when she declined his marriage proposal, so he was easily put-off by her rejection. ”I’ll see you tomorrow? Stop by my house before you go to work.”
He seemed to take her brushing him off personally; she hoped he wasn’t suspicious of her true intentions. ”Yeah, maybe,” Altan said distantly. Irina hated herself for hurting this man, who cared about her possibly more than anyone else did. If she was more comfortable with touching people, she would have hugged him before dashing off. Instead, she gave him a smile and headed off in a direction adjacent to the commotion, to keep his suspicion at bay. When she turned a corner and was out of Altan’s sight, Irina broke into a run.
She couldn’t help but be afraid that somehow, she had brought whatever Hollow was down the street to her town. She had never seen anything like this in the area—only just the once, but on the west side, which her mama had warned her to avoid since it was in a rough neighborhood. She would never forgive herself if she brought this terror to the town she loved most in the world. Irina was just thankful that, if she was going to have to fight anything, it was cold. The brisk air helped her keep her wits about her.
Sickened, Irina spotted a huge snake-like Hollow in front of the general store where her Dedushka had bought her candy sticks when he went to buy tools when she was a child. Windows broken and things scattered about, it looked nothing like what she fondly remembered. As the snake slithered around someone’s shiny new Jeep which had crashed into a pole, Irina kept her back to the store and her eyes locked to the snake as she drew a map of the store in her mind. If nothing had changed since she was last in town, there were some hunting knives in the front, and the guns were kept in the back. Since the people were running out of the car, she decided to risk running into the store for a weapon.
Irina was thankful to not run into the store’s owner, a friend of her grandparents, who would surely question her and surely not hand over any weapons without a thorough explanation. She split for the back of the store, intending to grab a gun, but that would mean breaking into two cases. She noted a sword in a display case of antiques. She groaned. Surely in her small town, someone would recognize her, although at least at this point, most of the witnesses had run away. She was going to be in so much trouble. Breaking the display case would be the least of her worries.
Helpless to do much else in the way of being inconspicuous, she pulled up the hood of her jacket, which would only partly hide her face. She would have to take care of the situation quickly. She manipulated the glass to give it a slight weak spot, and kicked it with the sole of her shoe. She grabbed the sword, which thankfully, as an antique, was solidly constructed, if not the sharpest, and ran out the door. She couldn’t help but ponder whether she brought on this incident somehow, but pushed the thoughts aside as she ran toward the Hollow. She drew her sword and slashed toward the huge snake.

As the hooded woman had broken the glass, the snake had raised it's head at the noise. Soon the effeminate snake had seen the fullbringer rush out with a sword in hand. The snake had hissed ferociously as the fullbringer drew the sword. Quickly bringing her tail outwards, several long spikes had formed nearly three feet long on the ends making a ball to collide with the fullbringer's blade. The woman if perhaps a bit more quiet would not have alerted the snake.
The blade would be stuck and caught within the Hollow's bladed tail as then the sword would be pushed downward toward the snow. The Hollow would glare into the eyes of the young woman before the snake would open its mouth. Launching an acidic spit moving at the speed of 600 at point blank to coat Irina's jacket...and clothes, the snake had then began to slither at a fast speed to gain distance. Irina would find that the acid was very strong and it burned skin. Even with her hoodie, she should be able to feel the burning sensations of the liquid burning her skin. As the liquid soaked her and drenched onto the ice, she would see the ice steaming and melting.
The hollow had at closer appearence had dark green wings. Dark yellow eyes had stared into the face of the woman as she could avoid being terribly injured by taking her jacket and shirt off quickly. Of course in this freezing cold weather she might not be having a very good time. On the other hand, if she had kept her clothes on she would be feeling as it her skin was burning alive. The snake's acidic spit could be soothed with the help of water as well. How Irina would deal with this was situational.
The hollow was observing the woman closely looking for a moment of weakness so that she may strike. She rested ten feet away in a coiled position as she would sway her head left right and left whenever Irina would move. The snake was more than capable of defending itself with it's basic capabilities. The snake had suddenly seen an elderly man walk out from the shop with a firearm in hand before he fired into the air startling the beast. Speaking in Russian, the man had looked to Irina speaking rapidly in the native tongue on what she was doing out there upon identifying her. However, the man coming out was the worst possible mistake to make.
The old man had suddenly saw a red light illuminate the area as within a mere second, a bala had been sent...blasting the man's stomach open. He gasped as part of the store had been blown open. The old man had coughed blood and fallen backward as the snake had howled loudly into the night air. The snow would be stained with blood as the reptilian creature had kept her eyes on the now seemingly dead old man on the ground not realizing Irina could still be a threat. The snake would be open to an attack assuming she was swift and nimble. The old man had clenched his gun before going limp and then the gun was dropped.
Irina would have the chance to see the death of a human up close from a hollow. Assuming Irina was too shocked or perhaps still immobile from the pain from the acid, the snake would move through the snow before lowering her head and grasping the dead man by the head and then throwing the corpse into the air before swallowing it whole with a loud gulp. The hollow had then turned her attention to the human fullbringer with a hunger in her eyes. An all consuming hunger as the firearm was all that was left in the snow. The tail of the snake had long ago turned back to normal as to not inhibit her movement.

Irina felt the hum of the vibration of her sword go up her arms as it collided with the snake's huge tail spike with a loud thump. If she were less experienced with swords, she likely would have sustained a shoulder injury from the momentum of the spike, but she adjusted her movement to keep from dislocating it. Stuck in the spike like an axe partway through a branch, the sword was jerked from her hand as the snake's tail whipped away, tossing the blade to the ground, too far from Irina for her to grab it right then.
Staying on the front of her feet to be more agile, Irina tried to carefully watch both the Hollow's tail and head. She was, by necessity, in defensive mode at the present. She would focus on its mid-section when she had an opportunity to attack. The only potential weapon she could see in her peripheral vision were some rocks at the edge of the pavement, and she happened to know that throwing rocks at a snake generally only served to agitate it. Irina would have to focus on simply avoiding injury for the moment.
Having the opportunity to focus solely on defending herself, Irina saw the snake open its mouth, and having been hit with a bala in the past, immediately held up her arms and used Soul Command to thicken the air in front of her in an attempt to block whatever the snake was throwing at her. (Thankfully, she had seen Kazura do this in the past, and had asked him to teach her the trick. Specifically, she asked him to throw various office supplies at her until she was proficient at it.) As the acid hit the ground with a hiss, she breathed a sigh of relief, just in time to see the shop owner, her grandfather’s friend Mr. Sokolov rush out of his store.
Irina had assumed that Mr. Sokolov, who was getting older and generally worked from morning until noon nowadays, had left his shop for the afternoon, leaving someone else in charge- hopefully, someone else who would run at the sign of danger. Seeing him charge outside, Irina was first instinctively horrified by the risk of Mr. Sokolov getting her in trouble with her parents. The man, while perhaps getting slower in his old age, had always seemed indestructible to Irina, so when she first saw him with rifle in hand, it didn't occur to her to be concerned for his safety. A military veteran just like Irina's grandfather, Mr. Sokolov had sustained injuries early in the war, and was sent home just before her Dedushka was shipped out.
True to his character, Mr. Sokolov fired a shot into the air, unafraid to make anyone aware of his presence. "Irina!" the man barked. "Get inside now!” He intended to clear the area of bystanders before handling the problem, and Irina, who had armed herself with a sword, was no exception. As a veteran, he understood that a girl with a sword from his Antiques case was no match for a terrorist...or whatever threat his block was facing. Mr. Sokolov clearly intended to take care of the situation himself.
Unfortunately, for what Irina later assumed was the first time in his life, he didn’t get a chance. Unable to even see what hit him, Mr. Sokolov took a hit to the abdomen as the glass window that he had carefully polished shattered. Frantically scanning the area to figure out what was happening, he again sharply commanded Irina to get out of the way as he coughed bloodily into the white snow. Firm in her decision that as the only person there who could even see the snake, she was responsible for making sure that no one else got hurt, Irina swallowed hard and kept her face to the Hollow.
Irina felt nauseated. Mr. Sokolov had been a part of Irina's life since before it began. As a young man, he had convinced his father (who originally owned the general store) to let Irina's grandfather work delivering supplies for a summer in exchange for an engagement ring for her grandmother. Irina had climbed in during his wife's funeral when she was a little girl, and she was still convinced that this was the only day that he had ever cried. Even the war, which destroyed so many lives, couldn't really take down Mr. Sokolov. She couldn't believe yet that anything could have hurt this man. So instead, she kept her attention with the snake.
She backed up and grabbed the sword she had lost, keeping her eyes on the snake, who had turned its body and its attention to the disabled old man in the snow. ”Hey!” she yelled at the snake to turn its attention from Mr. Sokolov as she threw the sword toward it, using Soul Command to keep its path straight toward its midsection. She hoped that, being more spiritual than Mr. Sokolov, she would be able to attract the snake’s attention from him to herself. His gun would hit the ground as her sword reached its target.

The snake had witnessed the woman's spiritual ability as a large invisible air wall had stopped her acid in its tracks! The snake had howled/hissed at her as the sword was flung away. After presumably killing the older man, she had wanted to eat her kill only to be intercepted by the fullbringer's words yelling at her. She had turned her gigantic head as suddenly the blade from before had been thrown at her as the blade had been manipulated to fly towards her chest. Foolish...how foolish of a thought that was. She would of course counter this attack with one of her own.
The snake quickly shot out a ball of thick corrosive acid coating the sword as it would begin to melt from her reiatsu. By the time the sword reached her, it would be a pile of goop as the snake did not look amused. Now the woman truly was weaponless. Slithering slowly around the woman, she had been wary. She was 12 feet long, and that should surely be enough to box her inside. The snake hissed in a vile manner as she had suddenly lunged with her head making it seem as if she were to be attacking with her head, but this was a false movement. She had drawn attention to the head, but it would be at this moment her tail would smack Irina in the torso aiming to knock her to the floor. She was not very strong, but a strike from a 200 pound snake might fix that thought. Assuming she succeeded, now was the time to strike her foe!
The snake would suddenly lurch forwards to sink her fangs directly into Irina's shoulder before releasing the corrosive acid spit upon her body and wound. Now this was something interesting. Her body had been infected by the effects of the acid when exposed to open wounds. Within two posts, Irina's wound would be infected and she would feel heavy fever symptoms such as headache, hallucinations, burning sensations, and other symptoms therefore leaving Irina to be unable to much at all effectively. Unless she had any techniques to prevent this or some sort of poison resistance, it would be done. Not to mention, the acid would burn her skin on contact which itself is extremely painful. The attack might have succeeded seeing the woman was so focused on the head of the snake on all her other accounts.
The snake had then proceeded to throw Irina into the snow as the snake had shivered...before heading to the fallen old man to eat first. Irina if bit would be down for the count and unable to escape surely. She would be an easy meal, so she would eat the old man she killed first before he turned freezing cold in the wind and snow. She would enjoy this meal surely...unless there were any other interruptions. The snake would slide herself on top of the rifle before slowly lifting the old man and then supporting his weight with her fangs and then swallowing. Hopefully the Fullbringer would have given up at this point so she could eat and warm up. The snake upon being successful would turn her head to Irina as a painful howl would fill the air.
"Graagh! Cold! Dying! Hungry! Hate! Hate! HATE! KILL THEM ALL!" The snake had howled again as she would look toward the fallen Irina before her eyes softened their look. She would then suddenly vomit out the old man as he lied on the floor still fully fine. "No. I won't eat them. I'm going insane. I'm going mad..." The snake seemed to be struggling and fighting against her very being as she began to writhe almost as if the snake had a seizure. She would then proceed to slam her head onto the car in the lamp post before she would rush off in an opposite direction. Something wasn't right.

Irina, already backing up once she has thrown her sword at the Hollow, was dismayed and a bit surprised that the snake's venom had melted her sword. Sure, it had scorched the area around where it had fallen to the ground earlier, but it could melt metal? That hardly seemed fair. Anyway, she hadn't planned on getting her weapon back after chucking it toward her enemy anyhow, so she tried to not let that phase her. She wasn't able to back far enough away from the snake that was now coming at her from two sides. She tried to pay more attention to the acid spitting head, which only served to set her up to get hit by the feint as she could only keep track of either the head or the tail not both like she wanted to.
"Ouch!" The tail of the 200 pound snake hit Irina from behind with a dull whack. Her analytical mind clocked Guerrerro's tail about 4 meters per second. "At 4 meters per second and at, what, a quarter of its mass... so like... 20 or 30 kilograms... That's like 80 newtons of force my body just endured. No wonder that hurt." Unfortunately, she realized, this knowledge which she had practiced in her last Physics lab did not help her in the slightest. She was still on the ground after being floored by the tail. But thinking as if she was just in lab, pelting a wall with various objects to calculate the force with which they hit, helped her to not panic as she frantically watched for the Snake's next move. She took deep breaths of the biting air to keep her head clear.
She instinctively used Soul Command to protect herself and used the ground to push her out of the way of the snake's bite. Her face rolled into the gravely street, scraping her cheek with a burning feeling. The snake bit the ground where she had just been lying, splattering her sleeve with droplets of acid. It burned through her coat, and she rolled on her other side to remove it quickly. While she preferred the cold, this was not the weather to be running around without a coat. She shivered violently as she packed snow on the area, trying to brush off the venom without touching it. The snow felt like it only worsened the burning, but at least she had removed the venom from her skin, and the mean, red tingling areas on her arm did not increase.
Irina, trying to tend to her own issues, didn't get a chance to try to help Mr. Sokolov. Although, at best, she could have grabbed a brick to throw at the Snake from the demolished storefront, she at least had to do something! She pulled herself up to her feet just in time to see the Snake shove the barely-conscious Mr. Sokolov in its mouth. Like a young EMT who just lost her first patient, Irina's heart sank to her stomach, making her feel like she was going to vomit. Tears threatened to spring up in the corners of her eyes as she frantically tried to think of a way to keep the Snake from hurting anyone else in her beloved town.
The Snake howled wildly, then spat up Mr. Sokolov, completely dazed, but alive. The Hollow said something about going crazy, which Irina found strange, as by eating people it was only doing what was natural for it. She would ponder this later, when she was alone. In what looked like a seizure, the snake banged its head on the crashed car, before slithering away. Had she been less beaten-up, Irina would have tried to follow it to disable it from hurting anyone else, but she was in no state for such a mission.
Mr. Sokolov, in a quiet sort of bark, beckoned Irina to him. "Irina! We need to get out of here, and call Klava Zolotov." Mrs. Zolotov? What was Altan's mother supposed to do in this situation?? Sure, she was a nurse, but she had nothing to do with anything like this! Seeing Irina's stunned look, Mr. Sokolov added "I've seen things like this before, a long time ago. Klava knows what to do. We just need to get out of here before anyone asks us too many questions." As she helped the man shuffle down the street, Irina clumsily dialed Mrs. Zolotov.
The old man took the phone. "Klava? Strange things are happening again. Please come pick up Miss Davayte and I, at the corner of third and Fir street." After hanging up, he turned to Irina. "I can't see any of the strange spirits that do these things. So you let me explain what happened to the police, just the way I saw it. You passed out right after the storefront exploded, and that's all you saw," the military man instructed briskly as he spat blood in the direction away from Irina. Dumbfounded, Irina just nodded.
