Ever since her impromptu training session with Jak, something peculiar had sparked inside Haida. In the days following that one, most electronics seemed to flicker or glitch when she was nearby. It first started out as minor things. A streetlight's green glow dimming somewhat as she rounded the corner, an ATM shutting off for a second as her arm grazed it, and other such ignorable things that Haida could simply blame on her curse, but as days turned into weeks, Haida realized that it wasn't just happenstance or her chain of misfortune that caused these electrical malfunctions, it was her. Something about her had changed. Whether it was her manifesting her curse or her newfound spiritual awareness, Haida needed to find out, and more so, she needed to control it. Otherwise, her electronic-dependant life would become a null option, and what chance did she have without the certainty of technology?
Coming to this conclusion, Haida bought some supplies took her next Friday off (A relatively simple thing to do when you work your own hours) to properly examine these untamed abilities and then force them under her control. Once the day had arrived, Haida found herself sitting on her couch, her index fingers pressing up against the sides of her nose with the rest interlocked, her elbows propping up her head against her knees. On the coffee table before her laid three items of importance for this training session. A lightbulb, an LCD screen, and her laptop. The last of these items, oddly enough, experienced no difficulty with Haida's newfound ability.
Starting with the lightbulb, as simple as it was, Haida's hand hesitated to pick it up, afraid that if she made the wrong move she'd overheat the glass, shattering it and sending dangerous pieces of it flying. As much as this tried to deter her, however, she knew it wouldn't get better if she didn't take some risk, so with what resolve she could muster, Haida shut her eyes tight and grabbed the bulb by its screwing point. Haida, still with eyes closed, focused on her hand, trying to force something, anything out of it. At first, nothing happened. At this inactivity, Haida opened her eyes, and to her surprise, the lightbulb was absolutely shining.
Even more surprising was the feeling of heat on her fingers. It felt radiant, almost as if they were burning, but not quite hot enough to do any damage. In this one instant of shock, Haida was caught off guard and quickly let go of the bulb. It made a sharp ping noise as it hit the table, but beyond that, the light bulb was as same as it was before, still glowing despite her hand letting go. A little scared by this prospect, Haida next tried to will this connection of power away, at first trying to 'pull away' whatever power her hand had built up, but after that didn't work, she imagined a connection between her hand and the bulb before she severed said imagine connection, and to her astonishment, this imagined(?) half-chord of energy slowly receded into the bulb and the light it once gave off gradually faded away.
"Woah.. alright, so I can control this thing." She noted, her hands a little shaky from the display of power she accidentally put on. Haida reached for her coffee, downing the thing slowly to regain her nerves. After setting the empty mug down, Haida sighed. "And here I thought that beyond my luck I was normal. Guess meeting giants makes you a little taller." She joked, a dry chuckle following as her fingers trailed along the edge of the screen that was on the middle of the table. With a few hours poured into messing with this device, she had been able to control her ability to 'connect' with electronic devices, disconnect with them, and manipulate them to some degree.
Although, without any instructions, the things she could do while hooked up to a device were rather limited. Turning them off and on, basic manipulation of pixels, etc. What she had figured out so far had been enough to let her return to a normal life, and Haida was about to stop there, feeling some anxiety rise up in her. Looking over to her laptop, she felt her left leg twitch slightly. She knew why she was hesitating. If she continued, her involvement in the supernatural would only grow, and considering Jak beat down a hollow like it was now sweat, Haida doubted that was the worst thing out there. Douma, for one example, was especially untrustworthy. Despite his offer for training and his apparent power, Haida could tell that his path could only lead to bad things. If she stopped now, then what was there to worry about?
But if she stopped now, then what would happen? Not only would this wonderous world be basically closed off, but beyond that she could become a casualty of it's conflicts. The worst thing, however, beyond the denial of exploration and the certainty of defenselessness, would be submitting to the challenge. For her entire life, any outcome with uncertainty was sure to end in a way that would spite her, thus decreasing a large part of her autonomy. Challenge, however, was the one thing Haida had control over. If she could overcome a challenge, it would be because she chose to, fighting through it by the skin of her teeth. If she backed down now, she would be submitting to her curse, and she would forever know that it was a challenge she could not overcome. With this train of thought, the twitching in her leg slowly came to a stop. Shifting over in the couch, Haida booted up the laptop, opening an OS editor. She would give this laptop a way to accept her Rieatsu, even if she had to write the code for that interface by scratch.
