RP Sample (Optional): This is the start to a thread I made about a year and a half ago on a now dead Bleach fourm, I may have gotten better, I may have gotten worse, won't know until I actually start RPing. Full thread can be found here if anyone is interested; it was a solo training combat thread.
Durandarte jumped silently from roof top to roof top in the half moons light, everything a shade of silver or grey. The night seemed calm as soft breeze floated across the room tops and across his skin. He took the view of the city in, it was a nice place and, even though he had already been here several times, he still found he hadn't explored the entire city. His duty was to watch the south end of the town for a short while, very routine stuff, but a few of the higher ups thought he could use some experience in the world of the living by himself.
He explored the town for several hours until, to his despair, his Denreishinki went off in his pocket. He slide to a stop on the next room and pulled out a silver Razor phone. Its screen flashed to life as he hit the unlock button, showing a satellite image of the area around him, a little red dot portraying his current location and several hundred meters off to the west an exclamation point appeared. With a sigh he locked the phone and slide it back into his pocket and took off west in order to confront the whatever threat had decided to encroach into the world of the living and his territory.
The travel took several minutes of his time via rooftop, but he had to travel the last several meters on foot. As his feet hit the ground he used the recoil from the landing to launch himself forward. Sprinting towards the area that his phone had showed him, but when he finally arrived at his destination there was no hollow in sight. He took out his Denreishinki again and confirmed the location, and he could scarcely believe his eyes, the location was right, but there was no hollow in sight, what was more there was no physical evidence of a hollow ever being in the area, until Durandarte felt himself get driven into the ground by 2 large interlocked fists.

Face Claim:
Physical Description: One of Yetsuna's most distinguishing characteristics is her dark green hair. It seems to float down her shoulders and back, ending at the bottom of the shoulder blades in a slightly uneven "V" shape, calling to mind fields of long green grass blowing in the wind. Many people first meeting her often think that she has dyed her hair, but it is actually her natural color. She would almost never admit it out loud she takes a fair amount of pride in its natural beauty and goes to decent lengths to keep it groomed and healthy. Finally she typically keeps the bangs of her hair parted to the right side of her face, only wearing straight bangs when she is dressed for a special occasion
In a contrast to her hair she has a incredibility light complexion, something that the darkness of her hair only amplifies. Porcelain-like would be the best way to put her skin color into words, and when paired with the sharp and pronounced lines of her face it gives her a almost doll like beauty. Her eyes are a rustic red color that almost seems to eat the iris, leaving only that shade of red visible. Although in and of themselves her eyes do not have any unique qualities that would be mesmerizing the small amount of eye liner she wears on a daily basis gives them a surprising intensity that is hard to ignore.
Working the way down one would come upon her shoulders, a bit broader then the average females and it seems like they are always supporting some kind of excess weight, giving them a certain look of strength and sturdiness. Her arms are toned, like she does a moderate amount of weight training on a regular basis. Her nails tend to be slightly grown out and well taken care of, but a few after join the academy she ceased using any kind nail polish because it always kept coming off. She has a moderate bust size, enough to be noticed, even in a shihakusho, but nothing so excessive that it would interfere with most daily activities or battle. Lastly her legs, much like her arms, look like she trains them daily, giving them a toned appearance without being excessively muscular.
She has a small scar, about a inch large, next to her left eye brow from a blow to the head. She carries herself with a sense of strength, but she still seems approachable to people and is often quick to smile. She wears a fairly standard shihakusho, but just a bit more close fitting then average so that she doesn't have a large amount of loose fabric flying around when she moves. Under the sleeves of her robe you would see her wearing metal vambraces, fairly ordinary looking, just plated metal, but effective.

Dislikes:
Spiders: plain old regular phobia (NOT a crippling fear)
Ranged attacks: While she personally dislikes those forms of attacks she doesn't ridicule those that do use them. Her main reason for the dislike of them is because it's just no where near as fun as close quarters combat, they tend to be easily dodged, and lack the power of a physical attack.
Rap music: She heard rap music once while on a visit to the World of the Living and was just appalled by the lyrics. they were derogatory, nasty, and plain old bad. Whenever she hears it she will almost certainly leave the immediate area, she can stay in the area, but will be quite vocal about her aversion to it and ask for it to be changed.
High temperatures: High temperatures make her uncomfortable and there is so little one can do to deal with them (one can only get so naked in public before it become an issue). High heat causes sweat, which is annoying, uncomfortable, and just gets everywhere. She actually prefers cooler temperatures, her ideal one is about 70 degrees.
Art: Basically anything that would be considered "high society". She never saw the point to it and thinks its basically glorified uselessness. How can a bunch of shapeless paint somehow capture the corruption of society? Opera? plain old annoying. Overall she just never goes near any of it.
Use of poisons: Poisons are a cheap trick, for people who don't have the physical strength or combat skill to win or the cunning to defeat someone stronger then them. Poison users she will actively critique, although see gives some leeway to people with poison based releases.
Energy drinks: She tried one in the past and just thought it tasted terrible, albeit they do do the job. She avoids drinking them often preferring coffee when she needs to stay awake, but she will take take one in a pinch.
Frilly clothes: While she does like to look nice on occasion she doesn't like her clothes to be THAT impractical. Frilly just gets in the way, makes it hard to even get around. She prefers a more conservative type dress whenever she need to look pretty.
Likes:
Blades: She has a love of blades pretty much anything above the size of a dagger catches her interest. She finds they have a certain elegance to them, and something about the sharp edge is just so satisfying to her.
Recreational swimming: Finds that swimming elevates strain on her muscles and the feeling of reduced weight feels wonderful to her. She likes to swim with her friends when she can, though males tend to give her more attention then she wants.
Jogging/running: Finds it a good outlet for stress and a great source of elation. Is another activity she enjoys doing with friends.
Japanese gardens: Finds them beautiful, the water, the grass, the trees, everything. While she rarely goes to them herself she really enjoys it when she does.
Dogs: She prefers lap dogs, finding them absolutely adorable. Almost anytime she see one she's likely to stop and pet it. She doesn't own one of her own because she lives in the barracks, but does hope that when she makes rank she'll be able to get one of her own.
Beer: Enjoys the beer of the World of the Living, particularly the craft beers, but rarely get to drink them herself. When she can't get beer she'll settle for almost any alcoholic beverage that isn't hard liqueur. Doesn't like overly hoppy beer, absolutely loves porters.
Coffee: Enjoys the taste and finds that it does a decent enough job of keeping her awake when she needs it to. She will take creamer in her coffee but not sugar. A go to drink of hers.
Flaws:
Loses almost all inhibitions when drunk to the point where she'll do almost anything.
Has night terrors about the hollow attack she experienced as a child.
Prone to staying up all night when out making her oversleep or insanely groggy the next day.
Shes a bit cockier then she should be when it comes to dealing with her opponents, not underestimating them, but being fairly sure she can take them down unless the power difference is obviously.
Habits:
Cracking her knuckles.
Shifts weight from one foot to the other when standing for extended periods.
Flex her right leg occasionally due to the previous experience of losing it.
Blows puffs of air upwards, hitting her hair, when she gets bored.
Fears:
Being Lost: who likes not knowing where they are in the middle of the forest? When she does get lost she gets a initial burst of panic and fear, then tries to calm herself down and get a bearing. The panic and fear come in waves, getting progressively worse to the point where she almost can't even think straight.
Being Helpless: Knows what it like to be truly helpless and it caused her a lot of psychological pain for a long time; Eventually she over came the trauma, but if she were to find herself in a position like that again it would be a fairly crushing blow to her ego and self-esteem.
Goals:
Find the hollow responsible for attacking her as a child and kill it.
Figure out the depths of her strengths and beat her captain/friend in a fight.
Alignment: NG (80% light)
Overall Personality:
Yetsuna is a fairly passive person in her day to day life. She just goes with the flow, rarely planning out her day, often doing what sounds the most appealing at that time. If she wants a drink she'll go get that drink, even if its 10 in the morning, if she wants to take a nap she'll find a tree to do it under. This does not mean that she (always) disregards her duties to do what she wants though. Although she's passive in her decision making she still carries herself with a small sense of seriousness and self-control.
Socially she is very approachable and enjoys conversations with a small groups of people, typically about 5 or less more people makes it harder to have a good talk. She will talk to almost anyone about anything, and particularly likes hearing and telling stories of battles fought and won. While not a drunk she most definitely enjoys a drinking from time to time but when she does get drunk she becomes a lot more rowdy and prone to stupid actions.
Like almost everyone is squad 11 she enjoys a good brawl, especially bar brawls so many different weapons to choose from when they happen, but while she joins them she tries to avoid being the one starting them, if for no other reason then to avoid the blame and the police. When she fights she'll use almost anything at her disposal to win, mainly drawing the line on cheap tactics such as below the belt shots, she will resort to such tactics if her opponent uses them first.
Yetsuna has never been accused of having a short temper, namely because she just let's most things that would anger people roll off her shoulders. Even when she does become truly angered she's fairly skilled at keeping it in check to keep herself from doing something reckless. Her thinking does become slightly more irrational when enraged, but almost never so badly she can't think straight.
She holds a moderately high opinion of herself, both in power and her appearance. While she knows she doesn't compare to a captain (yet) she thinks she can take on most of those are of a similar power level and win. On the occasions she does lose she does take it fairly well (assuming its a spar and not a real fight) and will likely try to use that person as a training partner until she can beat them. She takes the loss of a real fight harder and becomes notably annoyed at herself and will not be one of the best people to approach for a good few hours until she cools off.
She interacts politely/respectfully with the Gotei captains and those of rank as is common, with the only exception being her captain Grin who she has know for a long time. With Grin she acts almost like a little girl following him around at times and acting cutesy. With her drinking buddies shes louder and more rambunctious then her normal self, often yelling and cheering with them, occasionally being bad enough to get her tossed out. When it comes to dealing with things she hates her reactions can vary, spiders and rap will likely make her leave the room meanwhile the hollow that injured her as a child would get fit of rage.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fighting Style: Yetsuna always enjoys a good brawl, especially ones in bars. While she knows Muay Thai she doesn't use it in those brawls because she doesn't want to cause any real damage in a "good natured" fight, instead using regular old street fighting and improved weapons (because chairs barely hurt). Her preferred improvised weapon of choice is the chair, good damage without any lasting injuries, plentiful, and easy to use.
When in real combat Yetsuna tends to wield her blade one-handed (often in her right), leaving the other open to grab, defend, punch, etc. She tends to be an aggressive fighter pressing her advantage when she sees. She likes to mix sword swings with punches, kicks, and elbows to try and keep her opponent guessing. She will uses almost anything she gain to gain the advantage except cheap tricks like traps and below the belt shots, but if someone uses those tactics against her however, all bets are off and she will use them the next time they meet.
Her typical battle pose has her facing sideways at her enemy, her left arm slightly bent and facing downwards while the right holds the sword behind her, perpendicular to her body. Her left arm is more often used for defense, using the vambrace on her forearm to take blows from weapons and her hand to deflect attacks, while her right arm swings the sword. Depending on the enemy or situation she may change her stance to a more typical 2 handed one, or change the hand she wields with.
When in her shikai she takes full advantage of its defensive properties, often rushing in towards her opponent to beat them down. One of the first tactics she will try is to make a weapon to fight with, typically a katana or a great sword. Depending on the intensity of the combat there is a solid chance the weapon will break, if she goes through more than 2 weapons she is likely to discard the strategy, but may come back to it depending on circumstances. If/when her weapons fail her she will fall back to the typical unarmed attacks of Mauy Thai. She will use attempt to use the walls if a defensive style, summoning them when she sees a attack coming hoping to block the attack entirely or at the very least reduce the impact of the incoming attack, making it easier for her armor to absorb the remainder of the hit. She can use them offensively, such as forming large stone fists and controlling them telepathically, but it's her least favorite tactic, since is often involved her having to use range attacks, versus being up-close and personal.
In her bankai Yetsuna tries to take full advantage of her increased mobility and uses tag-team tactics with the golem. While her base speed obviously doesn't increase her ability to transport herself through her walls becomes a corner stone of her attacks. She will attempt to cover the area in many of her walls, giving her increased mobility and elements of surprise. This all assuming that she is not letting the golem do the fighting all on its own. When Yetsuna fights with her golem she will try to use its skills to compound her own, such as when it attacks via punching the wall to have its fist appear in another location she will follow that attack up by appearing at the end of the golems fist for a combo attack. With the increased density of the stone walls she is able to make better weapons, and for her golem. While there is little reason for her to make a weapon for the golem the option is open.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance(Optional): Ishiō looks like a normal human with the exception of several feature. His skin looks like it is made of stone, sharing several of its properties too including feel and hardness, while his hair almost seems to be made of sand. He wears a plain but formal black kimono often keeping his arms in the sleeves and on his head is a crown made of black onyx. His eyes a dark green color and almost always have a serious look in them. Personality wise he is very stoic, never showing her any emotion and barely even talks to his master.
Inner World(Optional): Yetsuna’s Inner world i very similar to that of a well-developed small town. Most of the buildings in the town are a few stories tall, with an average of about 4 stories, and are very sturdy in their construction. The town is noticeably modern, but as a feeling of tradition to it, like it has been around for a long while. Despite its appearance, much of the area around the town is ether under-developed or undeveloped, showing a lot of potential to grow. Foliage can be seen all across the town and is well taken care of, though some areas of greenery are dying or withered. The sky is clear and a vibrant shade of blue.
Zanpaktou Appearances:
Sealed: Ishio is a semi-unique blade because of its length. It is longer than the a katana, but it is still smaller than a nodachi. The blade is 42 inches long while the hilt is 8 inches totaling 47 for its final length. The handle is wrapped in black going up to its guard which features 8 small rectangles, 2 on each side, and colored similar to sand on a beach.
Shikai: The release form of her Zan takes the form of a suit of armor, Mainly comprised of overlapping metal and sharp, jagged edges for design. The armor protects everything from the neck down, hiding her body inside a case of black metal. The release is fairly form fitting, hugging her body and its natural curves, making it seem like she would lose a great deal of her range of motion, but she actually keeps her full range. This is because the metal of the armor will warp, without compromising its integrity, as she moves. The armor comes with no real weapon, leaving Yetsuna to have to do combat with her hands or whatever she can find. While the armor does have some sharp edges on it such as around the pauldrons they are unlikely to do any real damage as weapons. The image below gives a good idea of what the aesthetics of the armor looks like.
Bankai: Yetsuna's bankai takes her armor to a whole other level. Where her shikai was fairly conservative in its appearance the bankai goes in the complete opposite direction; it's large, bulky and gaudy in its detailing. The armor adds onto her overall stature, making her appear larger than she normally is a fair amount, roughly 30% larger. The style of the armor changes from a over lapping metal look to more of a plate armor appearance with silver detailing on the chest, shoulders, and hip areas. The base color of the armor does remain a black color, but in its bankai a deep green trim is added around the top of the shoulders and at the top of the head, going back almost like a ponytail. The second stage release also adds a helmet that covers her entire head except for the mouth region. Image below, left side, is a image of what the armor looks like.
The armor however is not the main event of her bankai, upon it's release a enormous mass of stone (90x90x5) will appear underneath her, assuming there isn't one there already. From it a golem will rise, literally pulling itself out of the ground, and if it was ground she created it will remain in place after the golem rises. At its full height the golem stands 40 feet tall and is humanoid in shape, walking on two legs and having two arms, though instead of having five fingers like the human hand it posses four, including the thumb. It is mainly comprised of solid stone, but the surface reflects many different textures; so areas are smooth, others jagged, some cracked. The golem possess a pronounced head, including a mouth and eyes, but they are mainly aesthetic in appearance. When it splits apart the mini-golems look like the larger body they came from.
Zanapkutou Release Names(Include both Shikai and Bankai names, and call out phrases)
Shikai: Sunder! Ishio (Stone King)
Bankai: Rise from the Rock! Ishiō Hikisaku Daichi (Earth Rending Stone King)
Overall Ability: Yetsuna's Zanapakutou is all about manipulating earth, mainly, but not entirely limited to, stone. With minimal effort she can levitate large masses of stone in the air, moving them around her with a simple thought. With a little effort she can cause the stone to warp into almost any shape she wants, ignoring any issues of structural integrity. Note: The terms "stone" and "sand" are used interchangeably in her powers, but both refer to any type of earth that Yetsuna generates as a result of her powers.
Shikai Overall Ability: What good is manipulating stone if there isn't any around? Her shikai solves this by converting her reiatsu into stone. The stone appears instantaneously within 5 feet of her in any direction, while anything beyond 5 feet has a short delay, about .5 seconds, limited to a 50 foot radius. It can materialize in any shape she requires it to and is fairly strong (scaling off of her stronger spiritual stat), but still breakable. While it doesn't have a inherent flaw or weakness she does not get to use this power freely, for every cubic foot of stone she produces she uses 10 reaitsu, meaning if she's not careful she can easily overexert herself.
If Yetsuna has summoned at least 10 cubic feet in the last 2 rounds she can summon an additional 3 cubic feet of stone for free. For every 5 cubic feet of stone beyond 10 she can summon an additional 2 cubic feet for free, i.e. if she has summoned 20 cubic feet of stone after 2 posting rounds she can summon 5 cubic feet of stone for free. This stone does not need to be used immediately and can actually build up over time, with the maximum amount she can have on reserve being 25 cubic feet. The free stone she summons does count towards the cubic footage needed to summon more free stone.
In order for this ability to work the stone must be in close proximity to something that can be stripped of raw materials, i.e. this ability will not function in mid-air.
Manufactured (non-organic) weapons are subject to being stripped of raw materials as well. For the sake of simplicity this damage is represented in a percentage. Every time she strikes a their weapon in a offensive manner with her stone the chance of it breaking increases by 5%, maxing out at 50%. This damage is not permanent and can be fixed on the spot if the wielder desires, all they must do is expend 50 reaitsu per percentage point of damage. The damage can be fixed at any point the user desire, but there is a catch for not repairing the damage quickly. If the chance of the weapon breaking reaches a total of 25% or more they must pay 75 reaitsu per point of damage over 25%, i.e. if they the weapon had a 35% chance of breaking they have to pay 75 x 10 to reduce it to 25% then 50 x 25. If the total reaches over 40% it increases to 100 reaitsu per point over 40%, i.e. if they user had the full 50% it would be 100 x 10, 75 x 15, and finally 50 x 25.
Another important part of her Shikai is the armor itself, it's for more than just a cool look. The armor gives Yetsuna a defense bonus, protecting her from blows from opponents, if they can't match her strongest spiritual stat they are unlikely to crack through her armor in a single blow and she receives heavily reduced damage, if as though the attacker had 65% (35% reduction) of their offensive stat (the armor acts like a class 4 technique in clashes of techniques). If the attackers offensive stat surpasses her spiritual pressure the damage is still reduced, but only by 10%.
Bankai Overall Ability: Where the shikai had a heavy theme for defense the bankai takes on a more aggressive side. The golem she summons she can control freely, having it mimic her like a puppet, control it telepathically, or have it act independently while she sees to something else. The golem has a fairly basic functioning intelligence, including speech, but is surprisingly well-versed in ways of combat, including use of weapons. It can use any weapon Yetsuna forms for him proficiently (skill level 2), or if she is directly controlling him her score -1 point (minimum 1). Like Yetsuna in her shikai the golem can move through walls at its normal rate of speed, but it also gets a boon she didn't; the golem(s) can move individual body parts through out the wall, i.e. it punches its fist into the wall and the fist comes out in another part of it. The golem has its own stats: 500 Speed and 1000 Strength, as well as Senses and Instinct equal to Yetsuna's. Additionally, the golem has durability equal to Yetsuna's offensive stat plus an additional 25%. Finally, the golem posses the ability to shunpo, but any shunpo it executes counts against Yetsuna's total shunpo for the post and also subtracts from her reaitsu pool.
The second primary ability of her bankai is a amplification of her shikai's abilities. Where she used to only make 1 cubic foot of stone for 10 reiatsu she can now make 3 cubic feet for the same amount. The density of the stone also increases by roughly 50%, making it possible for her to generate her own weapons out of the stone without them breaking after every hit, including making weapons for the golem to wield. Her ability to use her walls to move is also amplified, with her now being able to instantly go between any part of a wall she has created without any use of energy on her part. The defensive ability of her armor without being broken is increased from 25% to 35% while the break damage goes from 10% to 15%.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
Shikai:
Rock Solid: Yetsuna channels her reiatsu into her armor, strengthening its defensive ability past its normal limit for a single post. When she uses this tech the armor begins to look more like the ground in the desert rather than metal; it changes to a brownish color, and begins to seem cracked, belying the true nature of the skill. She can expend 200 reiatsu for a 1.5x boost to her strongest spiritual stat, 400 for a 2x, and 600 for a 3x. As a final hail mary she can expend 1200 reiatsu, and a 25% of her speed, for total invulnerability for a single post, even against a technique that would break through her armor. Only increases the defensive property of the stat doesn't have any offensive value as a skill. This also inflicts cutback as appropriate to the difference in Spiritual Pressure, except for the strongest form, which does not. Fills in the short term stat boost slot.
Atlas' Rage: Yetsuna summons a large ornate pillar, that after a short delay or on her command begins to disintegrate into sand, forming into a short lived, but massively devastating sandstorm. The storm tears at the flesh of any victim in the area, sometimes taking off whole chucks of skin at a time, all the while reducing the viability to almost nothing unless those caught in it have a high sensory stat, roughly 300+. The storm covers a 40 foot radius, forming a sphere. The primary flaw of the technique is delay before the pillar turns to sand, someone of sufficient speed will have a decently good chance to escape if they can anticipate what is going to happen, also anyone with a 50% or higher offensive stat than her will take no damage from this attack. Additionally for an extra 100 reiatsu she can cause random areas of the storm to heat up (due to friction) and turn some of the sand into glass, causing extra damage and deep lacerations. Yetsuna and her allies are unharmed by the skill because uses her earth manipulation to make the sand storm go around that at a distance 5 feet (though this can be adjusted as need), like the enemies their vision is impaired, but in this case only beyond the safe area. Finally, if the enemies eyes are unprotected they run a chance of being partially blinded until they rub their eyes or do some other action to clear their vision. Sand also has a small chance of entering the airways and causing breathing complications, can be removed with healing.
Costs 150 reiatsu to use and lasts for a single post.
Bankai:
Falling to Pieces: The golem can separate into smaller versions of itself, allowing it to fight in more enclosed spaces, take on multiple opponents, or overwhelm a single one. It is able to break into any number of equal sized golems as long as the total height of them added equals 40 feet, the strength of the mini-golems are divided equally among them while the speed remains unchanged. (i.e. 4 10' mini-golems, etc). There can be a maximum of 4 golems at once, and the main golem's Strength is split evenly among them.
Unyielding stone: As long as the golem is in contact with a sufficient mass of earth it will continue to regenerate any damage that is dealt to it. The healing takes place immediately after the post the damage is dealt, regardless of the amount dealt. Must be at least 90 square feet for the golem to be able to heal. If the golem is damaged and there is no earth for the golem to come in contact with Yetsuna can repair the golem fully at a cost of between 50-500 reiatsu depending on the severity of the damage. The amounts are listed below:
Hand: 75 Reiatsu
Arm: 125
50% of body: 250
75%: 375
Full: 500
Additionally, stored-up stone for Yetsuna's sand strip passive ability can be used instead of reaitsu to regenerate the golem. Using the stone Yetsuna has stored up she can restore up to 25% of the golems total body mass. Any stored stone used in this manner is expended in 5 cubic foot increments (5, 10, 15, 20, 25). If the total damage to the golems body is greater she can expend stored stone and reaitsu to restore the golem to full "health".
Shallow Grave: The golem/mini-golems latch onto their opponent, engulfing them almost immediately. After a very short delay it/they apply a crushing pressure to their victim based on the golems strength. Costs 300 Reiatsu to use.
Earths End: Yetsuna creates a massively dense and every bit as large stone for the golem to throw at her opponent. The stone is roughly a mile and a half wide and immensely heavy making the chance of catching, deflecting, or cutting minimal. Damage is based on her dominate spiritual stat multiplied by 2 and the golems strength multiplied by one half. The impact causes a massive shock wave to anyone not in the damage radius, blowing them back various distances (up to the affected person to make the choice based on their character), but causes no damage. Costs half of Yetsuna's remaining reiatsu, minimum of 2000, to use and durability of the stone is 3x denser than her stronger spiritual stat. Typically a hail mary attack.

-Personality-

-Powers-
Fighting Style: Yetsuna always enjoys a good brawl, especially ones in bars.
Shikai:
Other Techniques:
Birthplace: Portland, Maine
Current Residence: Squad 11 Barracks
Memorable Figures:
Francis Grin (fellow survivor and her savior)
Joyuse (mother and sister figure)
Hollow that attacked her.
History:
Yetsuna doesn't remember her death at all, the first memory she has is waking up in outer rukongai. Her first breath was almost nothing but dust, her second was a cough. Her hands were moderately small, so were her legs, her guess was that she was a tween. She stood up and dusted what she could only assume was basically a burlap sack acting as clothing off and started to explore a bit. She could hear the sounds of people a short way off, maybe a few blocks at most, so she started to head in that direction. Walking down the trash covered street she found the noises growing louder, until finally when she rounded and saw what seemed to be a market.
She slowly began to make her way down, getting various looks from various people as she did so until she bumped into someone, causing her to fall. Shaking her head to bring herself back from her unexpected fall onto rear she looked up to see a woman, looking somewhere in her mid 30s to her early 40s. The woman reached out her hand offering it to Yetsuna to help her up, doing so in one swift motion. After she had her footing the young girl looked over the older one, she was fairly pretty, well proportioned, and about average body weight. The woman looked right back at her before smiling and giving of a small laugh,"You must be new here."
Yetsuna was a bit relieved to see someone that seemed friendly. "How could you tell?" again the woman laughed, though this time it felt it was a bit more AT her. "You're too clean, so you either managed to get a bath that included soap recently, which is unlikely in this area, or you're a new soul." She was caught off guard by the use of the word soul, her jaw almost visibly dropping, "Soul? I'm dead? What happened? How did I die and get here?"A The pretty lady placed a hand on her head, not being too difficult considering Yetsuna was only about as high as her chest. Laughing again she said, "Calm down and come with me, I'll do my best to explain."
She followed the woman for around a small number of twists and turns before they arrived at a small hut a short way off the market street. Yetsuna found herself questioning why she was following the woman, settling on the answer "lack of a better option". She paused shortly before following the lady into the hut, again wondering if she was making a smart choice. She entered the home, it was fairly dark, the main light source being a window in which some rays of sun shone through, and smelled of ill-kept hygiene. Near the center of the main room were several "chairs" and a "table", at which the woman was sitting, obviously waiting for her to join her.
Sitting next to her in one of the chairs she put her hands on her knees and looked inquiringly at the lady. With a smile the lady began to talk, Yetsuna could hear a sweetness in her voice, "You seem like a smart kid so I don't think I'm going to have to sugar coat what I'm going to say. You are indeed dead, though I don't know how, the memory might come back to you, it might not, not that it's a huge deal either way. As for how you got here, it just of happens as far as I have learned in my time here. As for where "here" is this is called the Soul Society, more specifically we're in the slum section, you got a a bit of a tough break on that one."
Yetsuna was at a loss for words, she knew she said she wasn't going to sugar coat it, but this was a whole different level on bomb dropping. She sat with her jaw on the ground for a good solid 5 minutes before finally having processed all the information. She just sat there, unsure of what to say, where to go from here, what she was gonna do in general, and apparently her face showed it because the woman spoke again, "You're welcome to stay with me if you'd like."
Caught off-guard once again by the woman she stumbled over her answer, "T-thank you, I think I would like that" she replied, visibly relieved. The woman her a warm smile, not unlike that of a mother with a new child, "My name is Joyuse, do you remember your name at all?" She thought real hard for a moment and came up with nothing, shaking her head to convey the failure, "If you would like I can try to think of a name for you, at least until you can remember yours," She paused for a few moment in thought, "Yetsuna, how does that strike you?"
"It sounds pretty........I like it thank you," She replied back with a smile
Years past for Yetsuna and Joyuse, they lived about as comfortably as they could in the higher numbers of the rukongai. Yetsuna stayed about the same height, which gave her the appearance of being younger than she was, which caused her no small amount of annoyance, especially since Joyuse always poked fun at her for it. As Yetsuna grew so did her appetite, so she often swiped fruit or other foods from vendors or went into the forest try and find something there.
One afternoon while trying to swipe a slice of meat from a vendor she over heard some talk of shinigami in their area. Her curiosity was peaked, Joyuse had told her about the shinigami, but she had yet to see one for herself.
After getting her meal she made her way through the streets before long coming upon a group of black robed figured with blades on their sides. To her surprise they all looked like regular people, just in different outfits, giving her a feel that the real differences ran a bit deeper then they appeared. They walked by, not really acknowledging the gathered people, but it didn't seem to be due to arrogance, more because they seemed focused. After seeing what she came to observe she back tracked and began to head home.
A few days pasted and Yetsuna heard a rumor going through her section of town; the shinigami that had passed through a few days before hadn't come back. When she asked Joyuse, more out of curiosity then concern, about the rumor she told her it wasn't uncommon for shinigami to be gone prolonged periods of time. Yetsuna kept going on with her daily life, swiping food, water, etc, and goofing around with the other kids and teens. She was going home late one night one night after having a friendly "date" with one of the boys she saw regularly when she suddenly felt the ground behind her shake, accompanied by a heavy thud.
She quickly turned around and came face-to-face with a hollow. Like with the shinigami she had never seen a hollow before, but she did know they were highly dangerous, and everything that happened next she doesn't remember to well, even after all those years. She turned to run, but before she could even take the second step a pain shot through her leg, and she fell. She struggled to flip herself over, and after doing so looked at her attacker, and in the corner of her eye she saw a leg in a pool of blood, "Where did that come fr..." her thought trailed off into panic, and her body began to go into shock, as she realized it was her right leg on the ground. The hollow dragging her, released the leg that was still attached to her body and went over to the shinigami, hovering a short distance from his face. she could see its mouth moving, but this time she couldn't hear was was being said, she felt herself slipping into unconsciousness again.
This time when she came to she was looking at a wooden ceiling, and she felt a cushion underneath her. She blinked a few times and attempted to lift herself off whatever she was on. She was surprised at how little effort it took to rise, she looked around and saw the shinigami from earlier lying on the next bed. She felt a tingle go down her right leg, she paused for a moment as the significance of that electrical impulse hit her, causing her to throw aside the blanket that was covering her. Her right leg was there! What's more there was no scar! She swung her legs out over the edge of the bed and stood up,
