Thread Title: Into the Woods [Grodd vs Zeferoth, R, NDE] Participants: Grodd, Zeferoth World: Soul Society Death Setting: Non Death Enabled Rating: R Location: In the Wilderness, among many trees. While there are birds to be heard singing in the area, for the most part the area is quiet and peaceful. It is a nice sunny day, just after noon, with the sun shining through the canopy. Special Conditions: None Circumstances: Grodd is taking one of his habitual walks through the forest, when he comes across Zeferoth. Thinking the Beast Clansman to be an enemy, he attacks him.
Now that Grodd had been inducted into Squad 3, after being rescued from his long imprisonment at the hands of the Zookeeper, the man had found more free time than he ever could have imagined. He had duties, of course, which took him out into the Land of the Living fairly frequently, but in his downtime he could do what he wanted. He could run out into the Rukongai and beyond as much as he wanted, and he frequently wanted to. He spent a lot of time in the Wilderness, and while it wasn't the safest place, he got by. He hadn't been in a situation yet that he couldn't get out of with a little effort, so he felt like the Wilderness was fairly safe.
On one such day, he was out among the trees, jumping from branch to branch. As he was out of the Seireitei, he had left his loincloth on a branch, bearing all of his flesh to the world. He felt the most free when he was naked, and felt too constricted by wearing clothes. His superiors frequently chastised him for the way he dressed, or rather didn't dress, so while on duty and in the barracks he wore the bare minimum clothing. But out alone in the forest, he wore nothing. He was enjoying his walk when he heard a noise. Fearing it was one of his superiors who would chastise him, he hurried to gather up his loincloth around his body before whatever was making the noise presented itself.
Zeferoth stalked through the trees of the wilderness outside of the Rukongai. Zeferoth considered the wilderness his home, even though he has been spending more and more time in and around the two legger's den known as the Rukongai. He had been picking up on the habits and customes of the two leggers slowly but surly. He had been around a colorful bunch of them to be sure. From noble born two leggers, to common criminals, he was getting to know them all.
Zeferoth was out on one of his hunts. He was not particularly territorial, but he was cautious when it came to intruders within his stomping grounds. He caught the scent of someone in the area. By the smell of it, it smelled like a two legger, but it was always hard to tell for sure sometimes. He slowly made his way on all fours in the direction he smelled the two legger. Though he was getting more and more used to fighting and walking on two legs, he still preferred to walked around on all fours when he is out in the wilderness.
Zeferoth approached the two legger slowly catching sight of him from a fairly good distance. He seemed to wear much less than the rest of the two leggers that he had come across. Zeferoth didn't know what he was doing all the way out here, but he would need to investigate. Raising to his full seven foot tall height, Zeferoth approached the two legger. The heavy cuffs on his wrists and ankles shifting slightly on his grey arms. "Who are you? Why are you in my territory?" He asked in a low voice sounding almost like growl.
Grodd was surprised to see a beast walk through the brush, rather than another Shinigami. This... animal was curious to the man, for it was much larger than anything he had ever seen before. Zeferoth was not truly an animal, but rather a member of the Beast Clan, but Grodd had never encountered any of their kind before, nor had he been told about them during his studies. All he saw was a beast that was seven feet long, covered in fur and long hair, with various accessories covering its meager clothing. The skulls along the waist were intimidating, as were the highly conspicuous metal shackles around the ankles and wrists.
Grodd was thrown off guard when Zeferoth stood up and started to speak. He raised his hands up defensively as he stepped back a couple of steps. He didn't want to intrude on this guy's "territory", but then again he was skeptical that it truly did belong to the monster in front of him. The Shinigami had been taught that Shinigami controlled everything in the Soul Society, and he had believed them 100%. Without any real memories to go off of, he didn't really have anything else to believe. So, Grodd started moving closer to the Beast Clansman.
That's when he noticed the difference in height, now that Zeferoth was standing up at his full height. Grodd was tall, at over six and a half feet tall, but this guy was over a foot taller than him! So, Grodd needed to be respectful while he enlightened the Beast that this was not, in fact, his territory. Alas, Grodd is a mute. His only method of communication is through "sign language", if you could even call it language. All of his signs are of his own making, and thus don't make sense to conventional linguists.
Grodd started his "conversation" by lifting his right arm, palm facing the ground. While maintaining that sign, he touched his left hand to his chest before pushing his left hand outwards, palm pointed at Zeferoth. He put his left arm down before twisting his right hand into a complex sign pointed downwards. He extended his thumb and ring finger so that they both pointed towards the ground. He completed his "sentence" by rotating his right hand in a small circle while maintaining the thumb and ring finger sign. To the Beast Clansman, it would be as much gibberish as if the Shinigami were speaking Martian.
Zeferoth looked at the strange man waiting for his answer. The two legger seemed as confused as he was for a moment. He was tall for a two legger. He matched Zeferoth closer than most other two leggers. It looked like he was strong. Zeferoth made a note to check on that later after he found out what he was doing here. It would seem however that he would have a difficult time communicating with the strange two legger.
Zeferoth tensed when the man started using his hands to make weird signs. Zeferoth assumed the two legger was going to start using the two legger magic, kidou. He got low for a moment waiting for the expected spell to activate, but nothing happened. The man continued with his weird, comprehensible signs like it a normal conversation. This defiantly threw Zeferoth for a loop. He didn't know normal sign language and this mess was further confusing him. He only cocked his head to the side in confusion.
Great... another being who couldn't understand Grodd. None of them ever did. He was far too stubborn to try other "conventional" methods of wordless communication like writing things down or learning "proper" sign language, so no one did ever understand him when he signed. But this was no matter. For whatever reason, this Beast would not back down and would not go away. He must be some sort of Hollow that Grodd did not recognize. After all, he was massive and he talked! And Grodd's job was to take down hollows. While he had never seen one without a mask, and looking like a badger, the skulls that he wore were probably related to his being a hollow.
Seemingly without warning, Grodd blurred as he stepped towards Zeferoth with a Shunpo. The Shinigami would suddenly be back a few feet, then right up in the Beast Clansman's face, well chest. As he exited his Shunpo, Grodd put his hands up in a boxing stance that covered his face. With his right hand he punched towards Zeferoth's stomach, keeping the left held towards the lower half of his face to protect from any counterattacks towards the head and chest area. However, while from the abdomen up he had a common boxing stance, from the abdomen down his legs were positioned in anything but a stance that was fluid and mobile like boxing. His legs were firmly rooted in the ground, ready to absorb the force of an attack if need be.
Luckily Zeferoth's instincts told him to tighten his muscles, and when he did he felt the impact of the man's fist against his abs. It protected him a little bit, but still hurt. Zeferoth was still confused. He didn't think that he was doing anything that could be seen as threatening to the two legger. Zeferoth pushed the confusion away looking at what was going on in front of him. This two legger had decided to attack him without provocation. The time for talk was no over.
Before the man could pull his fist very far from Zeferoth's abs, Zeferoth would go to grab the man's arm. If he was able to, Zeferoth would lift the man clean off the ground and turning away from the man, as he pulled the two legger over his head. He would then slam the man flat on his back against the ground with a mighty crash. If he could not grab the man's arm,Zeferoth would go down to all fours moving back and fourth, left to right fluidly as he slashed at the man's legs.
Zeferoth was angry now. He may not have not known what he did to make the two legger hostile, or it the two legger was always hostile against him, but he was not going to be shown up by some up start two legger! The beast men prided themselves in their physical strength. He would soon know the full extend of his strength soon enough. He more than likely would not even have to use his special blood in this battle.
The beast man was tough, both in durability and physical strength. Grodd had never felt such an impact on himself when he hit someone, since Zeferoth's flexed abs were so strong. The Shinigami was incredibly surprised at first, followed by more surprise as the beast managed to grab his arm with significant speed, pick him up, and slam him into the ground. The ground cracked and Grodd found himself in a small crater because of the force at which he had been slammed into the ground. It had hurt, a bit, to the point where even with his tolerance to pain, the Shinigami was feeling the effects of his mistake. That's what he gets for varying from his usual reactive fighting style.
Nonetheless, Grodd stood up. He wasn't about to be taken out by a single blow, even if it was mighty. He could feel his back uncomfortably strained by movement, which wasn't good so early in this fight. He had to show the beast man who owned this land, and who was superior. From the display of force, he wasn't sure anymore that it was him. Zeferoth definitely was stronger and faster, so Grodd had to be smarter. If only he was smart... Well, a smart thing to do would be to stick to one's comfortable fighting style, so Grodd decided to do that.
With another Shunpo, Grodd got a little distance between himself and the beast clansman, about twenty feet of space. He turned to face the beast, with his hands up at his face in a boxing stance, with his feet firmly planted on the ground. It was an odd stance, a mixture of Hakuda and Boxing, but it was an effective one in the Shinigami's mind. It had all of the resilience that he wanted combined with the potential for offense when he desired. He would wait for Zeferoth to come to him, rather than again make the mistake of going to the beast.
Zeferoth got down on all fours circling around the shinigami. He had to give the shinigami credit for staying in the fight after such a hit. Most opponents would be in too much pain to even stand up again. He was also strong for a two legger. He will not underestimate this one. He watched as the two legger gained some distance using that speed thing that they all seem to use. He found it odd that the black two leggers where able to run as such speeds, but they seemed unwilling to use it all the time. He might need to ask his friends about that the next time that he runs into them. He focused back on the fight. It seemed that two legger was waiting for him to attack. Zeferoth was more than willing to oblige him.
Zeferoth roared loudly as he charged in running as fast as he could on all fours. He would push himself up so that he could slash with his left hand across the two legger's abdomen. Zeferoth would fallow up with an attempt to grab the naked two legger by both arms, just below the shoulders to keep him in place. Zeferoth would then attempt to bite the man in the shoulder neck area with his set of sharp teeth. If he did not break free of his grip or avoid it, he would tear flesh and may even crush the man's collar bone. Zeferoth didn't want to kill the two legger. He knew that harming one would only bring more. He wanted to end this fight and resume his hunt.
The beast charged Grodd, once again demonstrating his greatly superior speed. Grodd's reactionary fighting style would be challenged by this Beast Clansman, but he had an idea. Charging on all fours, Zeferoth was weak in just one place, as far as the Shinigami could see. So when Zef got close and started to slash, Grodd disappeared using Shunpo again, but he didn't go very far. Instead, he just stepped diagonally to the side, coming out of his 1000 speed step right next to the Beast Clansman's side.
Grodd would go for a powerful punch to Zeferoth's side, and if he had more skill he'd be able to dodge the rest of the attacks, but alas he didn't. He was already feeling the burning in his legs from using Shunpo twice in such succession, so when the Beast Clansman turned and grabbed his arms there wasn't much that he could do. The beast would grab him by the shoulders, and though he kicked at Zeferoth's underbelly, it was likely that he was still going to be bitten in the shoulder by powerful teeth that tore away flesh.
Bleeding and in severe pain, with one arm mostly mangled and destroyed, Grodd knew that he was beat. He stumbled backwards, clutching at his arm and gasping for breath. He felt like screaming, but no matter what he felt there could be no noise that exited his throat. Grodd staggered and nearly fell to his feet, but after a moment regained the stability in his legs and made motions to the Beast Clansman. He raised his still working arm in the universal sign for "I yield" and started to back away slowly. He knew that he was outclassed in every way, and too wounded to continue, so like an injured animal he would escape to save his life rather than fight and lose it.
Zeferoth felt his teeth sink deep into the naked two legger's skin and muscles. He could taste the blood filling his mouth. Zeferoth felt his animal instincts start to kick in, and the urge to bite harder and tear the meat from his bones became all the more appealing. He adjusted his grip in order to tear the flesh from the two legger, but then he stopped himself. He had to fight his animal nature. He was no longer a mere animal. He was a beastman. A being with the strength of an animal, and the intelligence of the two leggers. He needed to be better than his instincts. He opened his mouth and let the naked two legger go watching him stumble and yield.
"You lucky that Zeferoth is above own instincts." He may have the potential for human intelligence, but he was still developing. "I let you go this time. Grow stronger two legger. Then make fight more interesting." He turned and started walking back though the wilderness. Tasting the two legger's blood made him hungry. He needed to hunt. He would rush off on all fours confident that the two legger had no will to fight any longer. It wouldn't be long before he had tracked down his prey and satisfied himself. After his meal, he would return to his den. He always liked to sleep after a large meal, and after the events of today, he will sleep a little better.
