Sup, forum! Mod team here.
Today, we're releasing a statement about something that we have noticed going on in the chat lately. The subject of this announcement is the badmouthing of others in the main chat, and sometimes even in private chat.
Now, we know you folks sometimes find actions we take unfair, or just don't click with some of your fellow forum goers. And you've certainly got a right to vent. We're not saying that you can't disagree with or discuss with people in the main chat. But, when you vent, we ask that you be responsible about it. We're just saying that when you talk badly about someone else who isn't there, you do damage to our community as a whole. See, one of the worst things that you can do is vent in a negative way about someone else, and corrupt everyone else's impression of that person. If you talk bad about someone, just be aware that other people are listening, and you might turn them against the person about whom you're talking. Maybe, if you dislike the actions of the other person enough, that's what you want. But you should understand that they, like you, are here to roleplay and have fun, and everyone comes from different viewpoints. They too have a viewpoint, and even though it may differ from yours, that does not mean that they're wrong.
We here at Bleach: Online World strive to be a community, and it's difficult to do that if people turn against each other all the time. If the person about whom you are talking were able to share their viewpoint, we think that you guys would be able to come to an understanding, and maybe even get along. Unfortunately, oftentimes we vent about people who aren't there to defend themselves. In the main chat, this is something that the mod team will not tolerate. That's not just when you vent about us and new rulings. It's also when you vent about other members. See, everyone, when you talk bad about them, deserves a chance to defend themselves and their actions. We're not saying that you can't say you don't like a certain action, but we ask that you vent responsibly. Instead of just venting, also say, "But I'll wait and see what they have to say about it. I could be wrong." Accept that you might be wrong. That they might come from a place that you have yet to consider, but will understand once they explain themselves.
This means that it is preferable for you to not be accusing when you vent. Now, while there is a no tolerance policy about this in main chat, and you will receive heavy consequences, we can't regulate private chat with other people. We ask in good faith, therefore, that you act responsibly and respectfully even in your private chats when talking about other people. Don't be accusatory, and try to be understanding. Try to see where the other person might be coming from. It's easy to get wrapped up in our own ideals, but remember that just because you think it, doesn't mean the world runs on it, and not everyone agrees with you. That's why we have to strive to be tolerant of one another, even over things we don't like. Because this is a community which tries to be welcoming to all.
You folks have got a big job on this forum, too. Being community members. Because by acting in a mature, responsible way, you encourage others to do the same, and you enhance not only everyone else's ability to have fun, but yours as well. Act respectfully, and we promise a more enjoyable experience overall.
It also helps that the kinder you are to others, the more flexible the mod team will be when addressing your concerns.
Thanks for listening.
Best,
The Mod Team
P.S. Props to Dsoul for informing a fellow member a couple of days ago in main chat how rude it is to talk about someone behind their back! +20 respect.
