Thread Title: The Phoenix and the Dragon (R | NDE) Participants: Umaroth & Katrina Kawada World: Soul Society Death Setting: Non Death Enabled Rating: R Location: Rukongai. Special Conditions: None. Circumstances: All Umaroth was doing was walking through the Rukongai. A bunch of idiotic Kawada jumped him, thinking he was a Hollow. Umaroth did Umaroth things, and so they went and got Katrina to deal with this for them.
How come this shit always happened to him? It was the first time he had been back to the Rukongai in a number of weeks, having spent the last couple of weeks living aboard the Gillianship in the world called Hueco Mundo. This was nothing more than a routine stop in the Rukongai in order for the crew, and Ajraka, to stock up on some supplies that they couldn't easily get back in Hueco Mundo. During this time, Umaroth had decided to wander off. It had been awhile since he had last been in the Rukongai, and even though he was nowhere near the old lake he called his mom, he still wanted to wander about and look around. It might also be good for him to interact with other people, given his rather antisocial behavior and violent nature with the rest of the crew. Nope. Fuck that. This was Umaroth. The crew should have known what was going to happen.
"Buagh!" the man shouted as he slammed into the snack stand, shattering the sound due to the impact and spraying the sugary treats into the air around him. The lizard lowered his tail, snarling at the Shinigami as he turned his attention back to the other two whom at this point had drawn their swords. "Q-Quickly! Go get the Head!" one of the said, the other man nodding and quickly sprinting off down one direction. Umaroth growled, letting him go as he returned his attention to the one remaining. "You damn Hollow! You think you can get away with this?" He hissed, the tremors in his arms clearly giving away his fear.
But the lizard was a bit confused by that statement. "Wrong. Not Hollow. You attack me. I break you." Was all Umaroth said, approaching the Shinigami with a rapid set of steps. The man let out a roar as he lunged forward, aiming to cut Umaroth down with a single swing. He was an inexperienced fighter, obviously, and that was something that was going to cost him. Cost him alot. Cost him a few teeth. Umaroth, with his much higher speed, side stepped the swing and suddenly collided his fist directly into the Shinigamis face. Oh that felt good. Umaroth got an amazing satisfaction out of punching people. The Shinigami, though, would not be receiving such pleasure.
He was sent flying, cart wheeling actually as he bounced off the ground three times before coming to an abrupt, and painful, stop when he slammed into the wall of some building. Umaroth snarled, shaking his head and looking at his hand. A splash of blood on his knuckles from the Shinigamis mouth, which he promptly wiped off on his knee length trousers. So was that it? Where his attackers finished? Apparently not, actually. Umaroth heard it first, the sound of sandals digging into the ground. He quickly turned, catching sight of the Shinigami he had smashed into the stall a few seconds earlier had gotten back up and was trying to impale him on his sword.
Umaroth growled before slapping his tail against the blade suddenly, like a snapping whip, and knocking the man off course. He stepped past the off balance stab, before grabbing the mans face and lifting him high into the air. With a sudden dominating roar, Umaroth brought the man down to meet the earth. Hard. The ground cracked beneath his skull when he collided with the ground, but he was not done. Umaroth then crouched on top of him and began smashing away on the mans face. One devistating blow after another, destroying the mans face completely and absolutely. Tearing apart the skin, destroying the bones, Umaroth gave no mercy. These bastards had attacked him so why on earth would he go easy on them?
His assault ended when the man, who was still alive somehow, no longer had a recognizable face. He snarled, the feathers on his head standing straight up as he glared down at the fallen man. Slowly getting to his feet he glared at the on looking Rukongai Civilians, expecting one of them to suddenly jump in. Suddenly he planted his foot on the man's destroyed face, disgracing him even more as he puffed out his chest and released a deafening roar. A call of victory and dominance over his fallen foes. His roar ended he was about to leave, when his attention was drawn to someone. The Shinigami whom had fled from before had returned with someone new, someone who looked a bit stronger than the weaklings Umaroth had just finished off. The beast didn't understand what the symbol on the back of their robes had meant, the symbol of the Golden Phoenix.
When one of her many cousins ran to her screaming about a giant fire breathing dragon, she hadn't believed them, expecting an elaborate prank at best, attempted assassination at worse. But she couldn't well ignore it; the stupid beast was within a stone's throw from Kawada Property, and she couldn't very well have a monster rampaging around her land. Even if it had been real, she expected a weak hollow, easily dispatched by even the family guard, most of whom froze and stared at the scene unfolding.
What she had most certainly not expected to find was a full grown lizard man, roaring it's victory over one of the few cousins whom she deigned to remember. 'More's the pity. He was making such progress too.' Her hand snapped upwards in a clenched fist, and the guard visibly relaxed, though most were still staring in terror at the beast before them. With a snap of her wrist, her Zanpakutou was drawn. "That is my cousin you are stepping on." Her eyes narrowed dangerously, the tip of her sword barely an inch from the ground. "If you wish to continue to draw breath, I suggest you cease and desist."
In order for someone to survive they needed to be able to obey their instincts. This was a trait that was seen less and less in Humans, with the ability to listen to the animalistic instinct inside them decreasing with each generation. Even for the warriors of the Seireitei, this was a declining trait for them as well. It was why people believed that the Seated Members of the Gotei were abnormal, monsters, as they could tap into the instincts that kept their ancestors alive. This was the difference between the Shinigami and the Beast Clan, one of the many differences actually. The Beast Clan were always in tuned to that feral instinct, their primal mind allowing them to better understand a life or death situation better than the other races. It was not something that they learned to obtain, practiced to master; it was a skill that they were born with.
So as Katrina Kawada stood there with her cowardly cousin, the intense blue eyes that rested in her skull that stared at the Beast, one had to wonder why she didn't run. Those bright blue eyes of Umaroths glared back at Katrina, a gaze of intense and primal rage. The young Shinigami would realize the difference between her own power and Umaroths just from looking at him. A beast well more than two feet taller than her, larger than her in every way possible. His body, his power, his pride were all larger than Katrinas. A body ripped with muscle, a primal ferocity that could never be matched. Katrina should have quietly backed down. But instead, her own pride caused her to draw her own sword.
Umaroth growled, his foot rising up and pressing itself into the head of the fallen Shinigami once more. From her position, Katrina could hear the sound of cracking and grinding, as Umaroth applied quite a bit of pressure into his foot to slowly crush the mans skull. The Shinigami let out a pained yell, unable to really make it anymore more than a moan due to the seriousness of his injuries. "Shinigami attack me when I do nothing wrong...draw swords just for walking." The reptile commented, continuing to grind his foot into the mans head. "Stop them...and you draw sword...same as Shinigami." Umaroth snarled before taking his foot off the felled mans head.
His gaze shifted, just for a moment, to the man below him before digging his clawed foot into the mans back. "Cousin...pack?...No...family right?" He asked before suddenly launching the man into the air in Katrinas direction. He hit the ground with a solid "omph" as the reptile lowered his leg. "Take cousin and leave. No time to play with child." The reptile growled back at her. He was giving her a choice here. A simple choice, but a choice none the less. She could either take her cousin and go, or stay. And if she were to stay...then something bad was going to happen. "Take cousin. But I keep other one." He suddenly added, motioning the other Shinigami he had taken down.

Of all the things this monster could do, talking was right down there with suddenly breaking out in song. It's words were snarled, more of a growl, and its sentence structure was more than a little broken, but it was understandable as speech. And surprisingly intelligent, too. 'What is this thing? Never have I seen a hollow without a mask ... nor one quite so odd ... I wonder if it's scales are warm ...' Childish curiosity aside, this was a problem. He had already destroyed a street, and-
She suppressed a flinch as the body was sent flying, collapsing to the ground in a huge plume of dust. She knew that had to hurt, but she felt no anger or pity for him; he was a moron, and an incompetent one at that. As he spoke, the words crawling through the air like serpents, Katrina found it harder and harder to suppress her distaste. She kept it hidden, however, the only sign of her mounting disgust were her eyes, sharpening to be like blades. She couldn't let him take her cousin; whatever his tastes lay, she would make sure they stayed far from family.
So instead, she adopted a sweet smile, the kind a child might to adopt to charm an adult. "Well then, Mister Dragon, if what you say is true, then I have to thank you! My cousins can be awfully naughty and I'm glad you punished them! If my daddy had his way, they'd be cut up into tiny pieces and fed to the doggies!" She giggled then, a high girlish sound that caused what conscious family members whom remained to stare at her, dumbstruck. She ignored them, instead taking on a vapid, air headed look. "Hmmm ... Do you like meat, Mister Lizard? I only ask cuz a mommy cow died and we can't sell the meat because of the baby. I only ask cuz you look like you eat meat and I wanna thank you!"
He wouldn't know this, but Katrina was acting (duh). It was a ruse. A plot designed to get him to drop his guard. As she spoke, she cast a spell, silently. Tsuzuri Raiden. She kept the flow of electricity through her blade, angling said Zanpakutou so that the slight pall of gold that would cover the blade, a surefire way to tell if something was magically enhanced, couldn't be seen. She was physically weak. She was in fact one of the weakest Shinigami in terms of physical strength. But she had intelligence, and skill. And, she had the advantage of surprise. Most people assumed she was just a helpless child. So she would show them.
Katrina couldn't act for shit. Even for this reptile, even for this beast, he was able to tell when somebody was trying to pull his leg. He wasn't the smartest thing around, relying on his instincts more often still than his developing human mind. But this? This had to be a joke. Lips curled back to display a mouth full of sharp teeth, the feathers atop his head stood right up. Katrina was foolish to believe that this would work, that Umaroth would have lowered his guard as she approached. The fact she kept her sword out was one thing that caused him caution, along with the fact that she couldn't hide her true intentions. He had seen them earlier, the intensity in her eyes that signaled anger and the desire for violence. Katrina was young and foolish.
Tsuzuri Raiden was a decent Kido spell if it were used in the correct fashion. It was a spell used best when one was delivering a blow, had ensnared an opponent with some conductive material, or were in the midst of grappling alongside another. What it was not good for, however, was delivering a sneak attack. The spell produced electricity, something that could be visually hidden if performed correctly but still produced one thing; sound. The sound of electricity was unmistakable...except for Umaroth. The reptile had never experienced electricity before so he wasn't actually sure what the sound was he was hearing. With his hearing he could easily picky up on the Kidos sounds...he just wasn't sure what it was.
He snarled, a growl escaping from the depths of his body as he stepped forward slightly in response to Katrinas approach. "Shinigami all the same. You no strange." He growled, slamming his tail into the earth once finished. If Katrina wanted a fight then she had come to the right lizard. Umaroth would give her a fight. She was also mistaken about something. It was not she who held the element of surprise, it was the opposite actually. Umaroth still had his hand hidden.
Another problem was the fact that Katrina had zero idea what to expect from Umaroth. She had never before seen a member of the Beast Clan, even believing the beast to be a mask less Hollow. His abilities, his skills, everything about him was a mystery to the young Kawada Head. In fact, even him speaking was enough to cause such surprise from him. So, there was absolutely no way Katrina would have expected what came next. It was her own ignorance on the Beast Clan that would lead to her defeat.
Umaroth would show Katrina what happened when you talked down to him, treated him like some idiotic newborn. Katrina would be non the wiser to what was about to happen, as her Instincts and Energy Sensory were just a tad bit too low to figure it out. With an Energy Sensory value below even the average Humans level she wouldn't be able to feel the small amount of reiatsu that shifted to his legs within the span of less than an instant. Her Instincts may have been able to let her know what was about to happen, but considering the fact she was barely above a normal humans along with the fact that she couldn't have predicted it meant there was no way she would be able properly react.
Umaroth vanished. Within that brief instant Karina would be confused, unable to expect that the reptile could have actually performed a Step Technique. A Step Technique that was none other than the Shinigamis own Shunpo. Within that same instant, with a speed 10x faster than his base (2,310), Umaroth closed not only the distance between himself and Katrina but was also used to launch his own devastating attack against the young woman. During his step he had brought his knee upwards, so when he appeared once more atop of her that scaled knee would slam straight the left side of her torso.
The damage that would be done would be...incredible. Umaroth had not twice, not three times, not even four times her own strength. He had nearly seven times (6.9 technically) her own physical strength. With no spiritual defenses like the hard skin of the Arrancar, Katrina wouldn't be able to buffer his knee against anything. The impact would destroy the inside of her body, more specifically the lower section of the left side of her rib cage. Not only that though, but her spleen and left lung were also in the path of his attack.
If Katrina was struck by this attack then it was over. There was no way she would be able to move due to the pain and injury. There was also the fact that Katrina wouldn't be able to completely dodge this attack either. The shock and surprise of his use of a Step Technique, coupled with her rather low Instinct, meant that one way or another some of if not all the damage would get through to her. It was possible that with a mentally casted Kido, a sudden one, she could subtract some of the damage if it were used defensively.
If she used her Zanpakuto, covered in the spell she had used, to try and block his attack it would still end badly for her. Simply electrifying him wouldn't stop the force and momentum, nor would her Zanpakuto be able to block his attack considering the puny amount of physical strength she possessed. Regardless, she was getting hit. Whether or not she was hit by the full force was going to be decided by whatever action Katrina took. She would still be sent flying backwards, sent across the Rukongai road and abck to where she had started from...and still flying past that point.
Umaroth lowered his leg, looking at the woman before letting out a snarl. "I will crush ANYONE who attacks me! I won't let Shinigami attack or mock me! Let this be lesson!" he roared out, slamming his tail into the road once more and actually cracking the surface of the ground. He kept his eyes on Katrina though, watching to make sure she would not be getting up. If she did though, if she had managed to resume moving, it had better be to apologize and leave the reptile alone. "Shinigami learn to leave me alone!"
There are times when being paranoid is a terrible, terrible thing.
Such as when a servant, trying to avoid waking the master of the house, remains silent while cleaning and ends up almost eviscerated. Or when, after a series of events, after she was entirely sure that her family was plotting against her, she ended discovering her own surprise party. Certainly not the kind of plot she was expecting, though to be entirely truthful the balloons should have given it away. Both were embarrassing events, though could potentially have saved her life. Still, were she to get rid of this particular personality trait, she might get killed.
Such as in this instant. Her feint didn't work; and why would it? It was transparent at best. But she hoped he got the message. He was a moron, an imbecile. Someone whom her baby cousin could out think. But even he would recognize the insult of her daring to think such a horrible act would convince him. In truth, she recognized that her acting left something to be desired - like believability, for one. But the smirk that crossed her face was one of challenge and arrogance. He was beneath her; he was like the hornet attacking the bear. Far outclassed and about to be destroyed.
Her paranoia saved her. His attack would have worked - would have destroyed her, certainly, had it connected. But even he arrived through the cloud of dust that arose, he would find Katrina was no longer there. She had moved, flash stepped out of the way. The blame lay entirely on the lizard. In a tense situation like this, the standoff before battle, any sudden movement can be misconstrued as an attack, any random twitch as the workings of a spell. So when his tail slammed into the ground ... Well, it was an entirely instinctual reaction. Her body moved, flashing through space to come to a rest several feet from her original destination, her golden blade held at the ready.
Blue eyes like ice stared down her opponent. "Tch. Hiroshi, leave here. Gather the citizens inside Kawada territory. Not even this monster can fight through the family guard." Without waiting to see if her orders were followed, she cast a spell, a cold blue bolt of lightning flying towards the rather large torso of the lizard. "As for you ..." Her voice was soft and feminine, fitting her frame for once. What didn't was the evil grin that wrapped around her lips, or the merciless look in her eyes. "You will make a beautiful handbag."
