The Kawadas are hosting a dance. They don't usually host, but tonight they are. Maybe to get some more nobles on their side as the family begins to fall apart without its Head. Whatever the case, it's the biggest event of the Winter, sinking in a legendary five trillion Ryo to make it the most expensive, enormous, and insane party in Soul Society history. The Kawadas literally built an entire new skyscraper with a giant underground dance lobby to make this happen. That's how big this party is.
Every single noble of every single family is attending this party, as well as all Central 46 members, including the Golden 5, and nearly every important person in the Soul Society. This includes one Sozen Kuchiki, and one Kisala Shihoin.

Kisala was not happy about attending the party that was hosted by the Kawada family. It was nothing against the Kawada specifically, Kisala just never liked going to any formal event. For this event, she was wearing a black and red Kimono. It was made of some of the finest material. Her short, white hair was fixed to present her more as a lady then a fighter. She wore a pair of gold earrings with rubies in them. A small pendent rest against her chest also with a ruby set in it. She wore a fancy armlet around her left bicep. Of course she had some make up on. All this beauty products irritated her to no end. Sometimes she curses being born into a noble family because of it.
Kisala tried to keep to herself and only talk to people when they approach her. She sighed leaning against the rail of a balcony near the middle of the building. She did enjoy the view though, she thought as she looked out letting the wind blow her hair around slightly and cooled her bronze skin. Her orange eyes cast out into the distance where she should be. Out there fighting hollow and the other enemies of the Soul Society. She turned back around and sighed again closing her eyes. She was sure that the scar across her nose was getting stares from other nobles who could not bear to get a scratch on their fair skin.
She took pride in her scar. It was more than a mark of battle to her. It was a mark of determination and pride. She ran her finger slowly across her scar thinking back to when she got it. She opened her eyes and shook herself out of the past. As much as she hated to do it, she still needed to represent the Shihoin family as best she could. She wouldn't do it for herself, but for her family more specifically her father and sister.

"It has been a long time since last I encountered a Shihoin at an event such as this," a voice said next to Kisala all of a sudden, after she had been thinking for a while, and had found herself moving outside of the ballroom and onto the balcony. "Though, if one were to discuss it with terms of fairness, I suppose this would most likely be because I did not return to the Seireitei for a long time, myself." The speaker had approached silently, and materialized quickly, almost out of nowhere. How one could sneak up on a Shihoin was unfathomable. Yet, his approach would very well not have been noticed. Not even his footsteps. More likely, however, it was nothing the speaker had done, but rather Kisala's absorption in her own thoughts.
If she looked up to the speaker before her, she would find an adult aged male, physically in his late twenties or perhaps older, gazing back at her with scarlet red eyes, like elegant rubies embedded into the white gem that was his magnificent face. Handsome in every way, and significantly taller than Kisala was, the man who stood before her with neat black hair and red eyes was recognizable in appearance not only to anyone who was a noble, but to anyone who was a member of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads as a Soul Reaper. Even if he was out of combat attire, and dressed instead in an elegant black tuxedo with a black bowtie and a red flower on the front, in other words an outfit many others also wore, he was recognizable.
This man was Sozen Kuchiki, the Esteemed Head of the Noble Kuchiki Family, and the Captain of Squad 6 in the Thirteen Court Guard Squads. What he said of course was a reference to the fact that, until four years ago, he had been absent from the Seireitei, having left with his wife to travel the world. His journey had lasted centuries, and at last he had returned on a fateful day four years previously to claim not only his role as Head, following the death of his younger brother Onuya, but to claim his position as the Captain of Squad 6, the position held exclusively by Heads of the Kuchiki Family since the very creation of the Soul Society itself.
And, in just that four years since his return, Sozen Kuchiki had made the Kuchikis the most powerful noble family or single group ever to exist in the Soul Society. Boasting four of the Captains of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, numerous Lieutenants, and others of even higher esteem, the Kuchiki nobility was indeed an extremely powerful one. And, in that time, Sozen had become responsible for the genocide of those known as Vizards, and had killed or defeated more than one Espada. His legacy even extended into newer generations, where powerful new warriors such as Takashi Kuchiki or Hotaru Kuchiki graced the battlefield. Indeed, he was not only the most good looking man in Soul Society, but easily the most influential and thus powerful.
And yet, for a man with such power, he seemed to have no reiatsu that could be sensed by Kisala. Strange. Though it was more likely he hadn't been noticed due to her self absorption in her own thoughts, even now Sozen's reiatsu could not be detected. It wasn't that it was small. When trying to sense him, there was literally nothing. Emptiness. A black hole. Nothingness. It was as if he could not be sensed. Or perhaps as if he belonged to an entirely different chain of beings. Whatever the case, Sozen's appearance meant that he too had grown tired, at least momentarily, of the conversation indoors, and he had come to venture outdoors as well, perhaps drawn by the rare sight of a Shihoin.
"Your Head was a good friend of mine," Sozen said, though, whether he was referencing Okami, or a previous Head, he did not clarify. "I can only assume that, given that the Shihoin have come here, you are of the same intent as the Kawada family? Seeking allies of some sort. Of course, it is most probable nowadays that the Shihoin would be more likely than the Kawadas to befriend others." Well, true. Though, if Kisala was in Squad 2, her Captain was a Kawada. Kenryoku Kawada. However, he hadn't been seen in a while. Rumor had it that he had disappeared during the invasion of the Vandenreich. Though, that rumor was never confirmed.

Kisala jumped slightly when she heard someone speaking to her from behind. He recovered her composure quickly and turned to see Sozen Kuchiki standing in front of her. At first she was awe struck that a captain let alone one of the caliber of Captain Sozen Kuchiki. She gathered her wits about her and bowed as one of the grunts did when a captain was nearby instead of one noble bowing to a more powerful one. She always seemed to fall back on the more military mind set of the thirteen court guard then the nobility prodigal.
"Pardon me Captain Kuchiki, I did not notice that you were there." She straightened back at a rigid attention. He commented that he the Shihoin were here to gain allies like the Kawada were. She looked away sort of embarrassed that she could not really answer the captain. "I must admit I do not know why we are here other than respecting the Kawada's wishes to host this dance. I do not pay much attention to the politics of the nobles even in my own house."

Sozen smiled a charming smile, one of ease and a casual atmosphere. He was relaxed, and his smile was... nothing short of beautiful. It was as they had always said. Sozen was the best looking man in the Soul Society. Of course, he was off-limits, given that he was married. His wife, they said as well, was pregnant. Sozen had an heir coming soon. Then again, they said a lot of other things about his wife as well. A Soul Reaper whose power was a hundred times that of a Captain. A presence of white blonde hair who could literally destroy the Seireitei with a finger. And many other unsubstantiated rumors. No one really knew all that much about the infamous Aoi Kuchiki. But, supposedly, she too was in this party.
With that beautiful smile, Sozen turned more to Kisala, eyes meeting hers. The taller man believed in respect of other nobles. He may be mocking to some, but it was always proper to address them as equals, for to earn their respect required giving one's own. Earning the respect and even like of the other nobles was all part of the game. To treat any as inferiors or lessers, and to disdain the game were both acts which would inevitably result in the weakening of the family. This was basic to one who was raised to be the Head of a noble family, as Sozen had been. Others, perhaps, disdained the game a little bit more, having not been raised to its importance.
"It is indeed a chore to learn about intrigue, and petty decadence," Sozen admitted to Kisala. "My brother always chose to be cold rather than cordial, but I am of the belief that to be friendly is to make friends, and that in making friends, one ensures that the family will always be safe. Above all else, protecting the family is what matters." That was Sozen's motto. above the matters of Seireitei and the Thirteen Court Guard Squads and all of Soul Society even, or even the three worlds, there was the Kuchiki Family. To Sozen, nothing was more important than his family. And, therefore, he would do everything to advance their interests, sometimes at the expense of other things.
Well, did it really make much difference here? The Kawadas also followed such mantra, but they had not done it as cleanly as Sozen and the Kuchikis. That was the purpose for this dance. They needed allies that they hadn't previously secured. And, unfortunately, it had been Shade Kawada who was on good terms with Sozen and the Kuchikis. As Head, Kenryoku had disdained the Kuchikis, and now his current, potentially temporary replacement did the same. The Kuchikis, once the biggest allies the Kawadas had possessed, were no longer quite in league with them, and thus the list of allies had thinned. The Kawadas were in trouble at this rate.
Sozen, regardless, looked at Kisala with a smile after what he said, and spoke once more. "I feel the need for a bit of refreshment, though admittedly I am not yet ready to return to mingling. I am of mind, rather, to get a drink. Would you like anything?" But there was something strange about all this. Sozen was unreadable. In every way. Even asking for a drink seemed to possess layers of mystery. And, moreover, Sozen seemed to have a hidden agenda of his own at all times. This was a feeling which was unshakable when speaking to him, even if one spoke as a subordinate rather than as two nobles. Maybe it would be good to observe him with other Captains. He was not the only Captain at this party, after all.

"It is indeed a chore to learn about intrigue, and petty decadence, my brother always chose to be cold rather than cordial, but I am of the belief that to be friendly is to make friends, and that in making friends, one ensures that the family will always be safe. Above all else, protecting the family is what matters." Kisala listened to the captains brief explanation of the advantage of friends and alliances with other houses. It was interesting enough for her, but this defiantly did not make her envy the current head of her house, or the next one for that matter.
"If I can be plain sir," She started formally. "I would prefer to protect my family with my own blade and honor." She saw herself as far more direct than most noble born people. It wasn't out of arrogance, but just her honest nature, and maybe from a bit of ignorance. When the captain asked if she wanted a drink she nodded slightly. "I would sir."
A new presence suddenly joined up near Sozen before the Kuchiki Head could respond to what Kisala was saying. Now, while Sozen had aura, his was controlled. It was often difficult to notice his reiatsu if he didn't want someone to find him in a crowd of other powerful Soul Reapers. He wasn't very good at stealth, but he was good at blending into a crowd of nobles and powerful Soul Reapers. This other aura, from this newcomer, was tempered, sure, and self-assured, but it was far more raw and unkempt. It was powerful. In fact, one might even suspect it had an even higher level of power than Sozen's, though Sozen was clearly the more powerful of the two auras.
No, it was just that this aura came off as "bigger," so to speak. But, it was distinctly... similar to Sozen's, if anything else. And, though the darkness of the balcony cast a shadow upon the figure to make him merely a silhouette, the eyes were no different from Sozen's in color. Deep scarlet eyes that gazed upon all with a frightening intensity. These, in particular, were terrifyingly cold and analytical. Sozen was cordial. These eyes were far more savage, even if they were extremely calm, and the level headed, breathy voice that lit the air near these eyes was extremely stable and polite.
"Captain Kuchiki, if I may, I have some matters to attend to. If I may be excused from this gathering, I would take my leave." It was someone asking Sozen's permission to leave. And the voice referred to Sozen as Captain. But... this feeling. What was it, exactly? Foreboding? Or something else? Sozen, distracted suddenly by the voice, glanced back at the shadow. The Kuchiki Head smiled. "You may very well be better suited to another task right now. It is likely my duty, rather than yours, to forge tonight's alliances You may go." The shadow bowed to Sozen, and as it came back up, its eyes fell on Kisala, and the air changed from malevolence to curiosity in an instant.
"Interesting..." the shadow mused. And then it disappeared from sight. Fast. It was a mighty shadow that was also gone in an instant. Presumably, Sozen had been able to keep up with its movements, as he didn't seem too surprised. To Kisala, not quite at that level of power, it would have been impossible to see it or even hope to keep track of it. But that was okay. When Sozen returned a few moments later with drinks, having left after the shadow did, and come back, he had a smile on his face, still. Sozen handed Kisala a glass of champagne, and looked up toward the sky, before his gaze returned to the Shihoin girl.
"Protecting your family with your blade is an honorable thing," Sozen said. "And, in the interest of preserving the centuries of alliance that we share, I suspect we will be offering our aide to you in that matter soon... It looks as if one of my kin has taken an interest in you, and you may very well find yourself in a position to become far more powerful and able to protect the Shihoin." Then, a new thought seized Sozen. One which he had been briefed on, but hadn't considered very much until now. He was a proponent of Okami Shihoin's leadership, but lately a new force had claimed to want the head spot in the Shihoin...
"Tell me," Sozen requested. "To whom to you kneel in the Shihoin?"

Kisala's body stiffened when she felt the presence. It seemed similar to the captain's but so much different. She had to struggle to keep herself from seeming too frightened, but the presence was more than intimidating to say the least. She tried to casually put her hand on the rail of the balcony as she looked over to the source of the intimidating presence. The figure remained hidden in the shadows, but she could see his eyes which were similar to the captain's.
"Captain Kuchiki, if I may, I have some matters to attend to. If I may be excused from this gathering, I would take my leave." Kisala looked from the shadowy figure to the captain. "You may very well be better suited to another task right now. It is likely my duty, rather than yours, to forge tonight's alliances You may go." Kisala was rather surprised though she tried to hide it on her face. Someone with such an aura was an underling of captain Kuchiki's? This only made her wonder just how strong the captain she had been talking to truly was.
The captain gave his subordinate his approval to leave, and Kisala could tell that he was bowing to the captain. When the figure came up she can see his eyes locking on her's. She stiffened again, but didn't look away. She had to focus on keeping her breathing under control, but she could tell that atmosphere was slightly different. He seemed curios and the single word he uttered seemed to confirm her suspicions.
The shadow disappeared in a blink of an eye, and the aura went with it. Kisala couldn't tell where it went or how it left. There was no way she could keep up with it. Kisala was still trying to process what had just happened that she didn't notice the captain leaving to get the drinks. She snapped out of her thoughts when he came back with a glass of champagne. She blushed slightly and took it thanking him and taking a sip as he looked up at the sky. She watched him curios about what he was thinking.
"Protecting your family with your blade is an honorable thing," Kisala didn't see what was so honorable about it. To her it was so much as common sense as breathing or gravity pulls things down. "And, in the interest of preserving the centuries of alliance that we share, I suspect we will be offering our aide to you in that matter soon... It looks as if one of my kin has taken an interest in you, and you may very well find yourself in a position to become far more powerful and able to protect the Shihoin."
Kisala looked at the captain with a combined look of confusion ad curiosity. She was confused by what exactly the captain meant by offering his aid in helping her protect her family. What does the Kuchiki's have to gain for helping the Shihoin? Noble family politics have always confused her, and she would prefer to be left out of them entirely. It all just seemed to be one big mess of who owes who for what. She was also curios about the second part of his comment. The man that was here before, was that who he was talking about? He was interested in her, and if so in what way?
"Tell me, to whom to you kneel in the Shihoin?" The sound of the captain's voice once again snapped Kisala back to what was going on around her. She thought about the question for a short time trying to think of the best way to phrase her response. "If I may be honest captain, I do not bend my knee to anyone within the family. Don't get me wrong, I respect the authority of the head of the house, and the authority of my father as a parent, but I do not do what I do on anyone's orders. I protect my family, and act on my own will and no one else." She stood resolute in response waiting for what the captain would say.
"I see..." Sozen acknowledged. The Crimson King did acknowledge. He had known many who were like Kisala in how they guarded the family. Sozen's own cousin, Hokori Kuchiki, did follow orders, but he did not necessarily always ask for permission before he did things. Kenryoku Kawada, when he had been subservient to Shade Kawada, had not followed orders, and had always acted independently in the name of the Kawada family. Sozen himself often disobeyed the Kuchiki Elders. That feeling of wanting to protect the family and stay above the politics was something which Sozen well understood as he saw it in Kisala of the Shihoin Family.
And, in her, he sensed loyalty. The sort of loyalty that belonged to a fierce dog, or a trustworthy steed. And he knew then that Kisala would be of tremendous use to his allies, the Shihoin. It wouldn't be like Kenryoku, who in his loyalty had also been a detriment to the Kawadas, hence today's event. Little did the Kawadas know... There were circumstances surrounding their late Head's death which Sozen had not put into his report to the Seireitei. None of them suspected Sozen, because, after all, why would they, when so hated an enemy had been on their doorstep? But, such a thing would not have to come to Kisala.
"Kisala," Sozen said, leaning against the railing casually, and lifting his glass of champagne to his lips coolly, a bemused, elegant smile touching his sweet lips. "I must confess, I am rather relieved to hear your answer. As I have heard it, there is a power struggle brewing on the horizon... Kimiko, or Okami... One of them will emerge victorious and as Head. I am not certain which I would prefer working with, but I do know that the struggle will arrive... You might very well be forced to pick sides, and I am relieved to hear that you will still fight not for a faction, but for your family. The Shihoin and the Kuchiki, after all, have been allies for thousands of years, and we could use your assistance in the battlefield even if there is internal war."
What Sozen said wasn't necessarily accurate, but someone of Kisala's rank wouldn't know that. In fact, she would possibly think that Sozen was right. There were many telltale signs. Kimiko paraded around as Head. Okami however was the established Head, and he kept Kisala as Heir. But Kimiko walked like the Head, talked like the Head, acted like the Head. Held her authority over Okami, despite Okami having superior authority. And they were divided equally between followers. There could only be one solution. Either a bloody war, or an honorable duel. And, if it came down to the honorable duel, the loser would have to concede.
So, while Sozen did exaggerate about the power struggle, it did exist. And it would be coming to a head at some point soon. Sozen presumed that it would just be battle, but... It could, under the right circumstances, become something much, much bigger. "If it came down to it, Kisala, I have a proposition," Sozen said. "Would you be interested in receiving training from our family as well as yours? To make you more powerful. More able to be a mediator between the conflicting powers in your family. More able to keep the peace, and protect the greatness of your family. What do you think?"

Kisala watched the captain unsure about what he thought about her answer. It seemed that he was deep in thought about something. She began to think that she had said something wrong. Then again how could she? She was speaking honestly. The politics of the family be damned, they were all family none the less. Who cared who was the head of the family. Wasn't the fact that they all shared the same blood and name enough? Sometimes she wondered if she would not be happier as part of a simple commoner family. Why did she have to be born of a noble house?
"Kisala," When he called her name it startled her from her thoughts. Why does he keep doing that? She thought almost choking on the drink that she was sipping on absent minded. She looked at the captain leaning against the rail. He had that smile on his face. One that she doubt anyone could read.
Kisala's stomach seemed to fall when he mentioned the power struggle in House Shihoin. She was not stupid, she knew that her older sister had desired the position of head of the house from Okami for sometime, but at the same time, she kept herself willfully ignorant of the events going around her house like an animal with it's head in the sand. She did not want to have to choose between her family members. That by itself would kill her more surely than any blade.
"I don't think I can do that." She said sound meeker and more unsure of herself. This seemed to be an obvious weak spot to the young Shihoin. She had so much to learn about life as a noble, but would rather seclude herself from all of that to be with the common people instead. Was it some hidden wisdom that drove Kisala to this line of thinking, or was it just childish ignorance wishing everyone would get along and be happy?
"If it came down to it, Kisala, I have a proposition," Sozen said. "Would you be interested in receiving training from our family as well as yours? To make you more powerful. More able to be a mediator between the conflicting powers in your family. More able to keep the peace, and protect the greatness of your family. What do you think?"
"Yes, I would of course." She said not even hesitating. If there was anything that she could do or learn to help keep her family together than she will do whatever it took. Kisala looked at the captain, and seemed to remember her place bringing her enthusiasm back into check. "If the captain would see fit to train me, then it will be an honor to be trained by you captain Kuchiki."

At this, Sozen shared with Kisala a smile. He had one or two ulterior motives, as he did with all things that he did, but primarily he truly was concerned with the conflict in the Shihoin. He had already seen for himself what happened when there were power struggles in families. In this case, it was Okami and Kimiko. One, Sozen knew quite well. The other, Sozen had heard rumors about. Hot blooded, young. Sozen did not care much for the naivety of great youth, or with the passion with having blood which boiled. He feared that the struggle would be gruesome, and leave the Kuchikis short an important ally during a crucial time. It would be relieving if Kisala could help mediate.
He had intent actually for her to grow to be able perhaps not to defeat Kimiko or Okami, but to at least inconvenience them enough that further combat would not be possible, and would be highly detrimental. In this case, it meant that the ability to suppress was going to be something that he wanted Kisala to favor, if he was to have her educated. There were plenty of ways that this could be accomplished. "I will actually not be the only one training you," Sozen said to Kisala. No, he had someone else from earlier in mind. "You will receive a great deal of your training from-" and suddenly Sozen's speaking was interrupted.
"Sozen Kuchiki," a voice said suddenly. Sozen turned to observe the newcomer--a pale skinned man in a black tuxedo and a silver bow tie. The man looked upon Sozen with black eyes, and spoke in an accented voice. He was serious, but he was attractive. Highly good looking, and around Sozen's own age. "I must admit that I am surprised to find so many people at this event." The newcomer took a step forward. The crest displayed on the chest of his tuxedo was unique. Typically it might embody a noble family, but this one was not immediately recognizable. How strange, for a man to have no claimed heritage here.
"It is rare to see other nobles here anymore. Once your families successfully neutered the Kawadas, you had very little to do with them." The tone was playful, but Sozen knew that this guy was hostile in some way. But, was it to him? The newcomer still meant business in some form or another. "Our families are great allies," Sozen regardless countered, to which the new conversation member smiled. "So you are, but so were we, once, and I can only wonder where you will stand when the Kawadas get what is coming..." Sozen wasn't even sure what this guy wanted. Some kind of revenge? Against the Kawadas? In their current state, it might just be possible.
"You know," the Kawada member suddenly said to Kisala. "It is better to keep loyalty to your family and your family alone, but that loyalty includes being able to choose which head to serve. The head matters, as it is the head who makes all final decisions. In a way, the destinies of everyone in your family will be guided by whomever is head. By choosing neither, you dishonor both yourself and your family. Sadly, we all have choices to make. Even those without a noble family." The newcomer seemed like a pretty blunt guy. Encountering him had probably also been no accident. He wanted to start something.
"Who are you?" Sozen asked. "It does not matter," the newcomer said. "Not yet. What matters is something I want from you, Sozen Kuchiki. The Kawadas believe themselves Phoenixes, who will always rise up again. But they are wrong. They're not phoenixes. They're just a shadow of a broken family waiting quietly on its deathbed. When that time comes, I trust that you will make the right choice." The newcomer pulled contacts out of his eyes, revealing them to be grey. Sozen's eyes widened. The newcomer looked toward Kisala. "Whoever becomes Head of the Shihoin, tell them you met me. And tell them what I told Sozen. Make the correct choice."

Kisala was a bit curious, as to who else Sozen was going to have her train with. She still has not been told what exactly the training she would be receiving would be. Kisala was willing to do whatever it took, undergo any training that she needed to, fight anyone that she had to in order to keep her family together. Head of the family be damned she will not sit idly by and watch her family destroy itself just so someone could call the shots. If that is what it meant to be a noble she would rather leave the family.
A pale man in a tux approached her and Sozen. She was getting a little irritated by all the interruptions, but she had to remind herself that Sozen was a key figure in many different things, so it would be expected that many people would want to talk to him. "It is rare to see other nobles here anymore. Once your families successfully neutered the Kawadas, you had very little to do with them." What was this man on about? What did Sozen do to the Kawadas? "So you are, but so were we, once, and I can only wonder where you will stand when the Kawadas get what is coming..."
By the sounds of it this man did not like the Kawasas very much. Kisala noted as she watched the two men talk. The man seemed to have some attitude with the captain for some reason, but none of this was any of her business though they way that he so openly talked about it still made her curious. It was then that she saw that the man was turning his attention to her. What would this guy want to talk with her about?
"It is better to keep loyalty to your family and your family alone, but that loyalty includes being able to choose which head to serve. The head matters, as it is the head who makes all final decisions. In a way, the destinies of everyone in your family will be guided by whomever is head. By choosing neither, you dishonor both yourself and your family. Sadly, we all have choices to make. Even those without a noble family."
Kisala narrowed her eyes and clenched her fists openly. Who was he to tell her where her loyalties should lay? Who was he to speak to her about what she should do for her family? If she was anywhere else, she would have put her fist flying right for the man's head. Who was he to question her loyalty? Unfortunately she was a quest representing her family, so she could not strike someone, but that didn't mean that she could not stare daggers at him.
"Maybe we should do away with such an archaic way of thinking?" She countered glaring at the man with her intense orange eyes. She didn't care what this man thought about her. It was not his concern. She could see that this man wanted to start something, and if the captain wasn't there she would obligate him, but like before, she could not act so rashly at this point in time. There was more than just her being represented here.
"Not yet. What matters is something I want from you, Sozen Kuchiki. The Kawadas believe themselves Phoenixes, who will always rise up again. But they are wrong. They're not phoenixes. They're just a shadow of a broken family waiting quietly on its deathbed. When that time comes, I trust that you will make the right choice." Kisala saw the captain's eyes widen when he took off his contacts to show his grey eyes. To Kisala that made him a whole lot less credible to her of speaking for loyalty. The man told Kisala to tell the head that she met the man, but who was she going to say who she met? A man with beautiful grey eyes? She scoffed at such a thought.
When the man left finally Kisala watched to make sure that he was walking away. She did not want to talk to that man for a moment longer. Still what the man said bothered her. Just who was he? She turned to Sozen crossing her arms across her chest. "Who the hell was that?" She asked rather brashly. Her agitation was causing her to not care about her manners. Now she was mad and the man was lucky that she didn't have her sword on her.

"That was a Shiba man," Sozen said. Come to think of it, a lot of the Shiba members were known to have gray eyes. So, it would be no wonder why the eyes surprised Sozen. Surprise? Yes, seeing anyone who could ever bear the name Shiba was surprising. After all, they had experienced genocide less than a couple of months ago at the hands of Takashi Kuchiki, the sapphire eyed traitor who now stood as the left hand to Sonken Kouhai, the most wanted criminal in the history of Soul Society. He had mercilessly slaughtered all of them for no reason, quite possibly just to prove his devotion to Sonken Kouhai.
So, for there to be a survivor... Indeed, he would be angry at the genocide. But, why not at Sozen Kuchiki more directly? Why only indirectly as had been seen? Why also indirectly at Kisala? Simply put, the Shiba lands had been acquired by the Kawadas shortly after the annihilation and genocide, which conspiracy theorists deemed to be the Kawadas having paid Takashi to do it. Rumor had it that the Kawadas had orchestrated the demise of the Shiba to take hold of their strategic lands and the wealth their lands bore in the form of gold mines and other precious metals, and had paid Takashi Kuchiki to do it, not only to frame the Kuchikis, but so the Kawadas would have a spy in Las Noches.
It was considered one of the only known failures of Sozen Kuchiki's career. A man who had been successful at all other ventures had failed to see one of his own, and a prodigy of his at that, turning to corruption by abandoning the Soul Society for Sonken Kouhai. And, if it was proven that the Kawadas were the ones that had orchestrated this, Sozen's reputation would be further damaged by having failed to hold off this Kawada plot against him. Then again, if it was uncovered, the Kawadas would surely suffer for it. Well, still. This realm of thinking was only rumors. What had actually happened that night was something that no one knew.
Sozen took a few moments to consider the state of things and to rebalance himself. Seeing a Shiba man was like seeing a ghost, and seeing one who wanted revenge on the Kawadas, as this one might have, was startling. Soon, a smile returned to Sozen's face, and the mood was brought back to the tone that the Kuchiki Head dictated. "As I was saying, Kisala..." Sozen stated. "If you were to train with us, much of it would be with my son, who shares your rank. You met him earlier." He had been that young man with the cold scarlet eyes, like the inferno of a dying sun, ready to explode and consume everything before it sputtered out.
That indicated Souza Kuchiki, Lieutenant of Squad 13. Yes, he did share Kisala's rank. And he also had quite the large reputation, himself. Someone who had succeeded in dominating in combat against a Captain, Harle, of Squad 2. For a Lieutenant to be capable of such a feat against a Captain was almost unheard of. Few to none that held Souza's rank had ever fared so incredibly well against those of Harle's rank. Most Captain vs Lieutenant engagements ended in the Captain's victory. But, Souza, from where he was in power, had succeeded in dominating most of the fight. A prodigy beyond any other.
"It is my hope that the next generation of Soul Reapers functions with better unity than mine does," Sozen admitted. "This generation will be more powerful than the last, and it would be a shame to see its capacity for teamwork wasted. I might be willing to imply that the generation of Soul Reapers that you are a part of will see the strongest Captains in ten thousand years." Sozen indeed had great faith in that generation. His son was not the only one of such enormous power, but certainly, Sozen did expect his son to do very well, once Captaincy was achieved. Which wouldn't be for a while, yet, anyways.
Suddenly, someone else joined them. This man had longer black hair, and white skin, and black eyes. But he wasn't even remotely similar to the one before. And, he bore the crest of the Kawadas on more than one area of his outfit. An academy prodigy from not long previously, Jagger Kawada. Many knew him just for that, but many said that they had been disappointed in how he had turned out. They had expected someone stronger. Some had even taken to saying, "As expected of a Kawada..." implying failure was in their blood. It had not been good for him. And now, here he was, staring at Sozen and Kisala.

The more Kisala thought about what the Shiba man said the angrier she was getting.
Just hearing the man's voice in his head was causing her to clench her fists in anger. Who was he to tell her where her loyalties should lay? Who was he to question her loyalty? Then there was what he said about her not choosing a head. That it was dishonoring not only her but her family. The gal of him! He knew nothing about her, and he dares to pass judgment on her!?. It was becoming more and more obvious to the captain how angry she was getting.
The anger stemmed not only from her pride, but her passion to protect her family as well. She felt that the Shiba man was trying to undermine her want to protect everyone in her family no matter what. Sure she could care less about who ran the family and made all the decisions. Sure she chose to remain ignorant about the family politics. But there was one thing that she will not tolorate under any circumstances, and that is anyone looking down on her for how she decided to go about her business. She didn't care at that moment if he was talking from experience about his own family being massacred, or any of the points that may make sense.
The captain finally managed to bring Kisala back to the present when he mentioned that he would like his son to take over much of the training. She was familiar with the name Souza Kuchiki. He was aware of his strength in combat, as well as his reputation. When Sozen mentioned that she had met him that night, a shiver was sent up Kisala's spine. The man was the only one who made her visibly nervous even though she never fought him herself.
"It is my hope that the next generation of Soul Reapers functions with better unity than mine does. This generation will be more powerful than the last, and it would be a shame to see its capacity for teamwork wasted. I might be willing to imply that the generation of Soul Reapers that you are a part of will see the strongest Captains in ten thousand years." Kisala looked at him then down to the ground thinking.
She didn't think of herself powerful really at all. She was thrust into this position due to the losses that they had suffered in the last conflict. She did not raise through the ranks of her squad by her own merit. Her look turned from one of furry to one of worry. Yes the captain was talking about her generation as a whole, but he could not really be including her in that statement. She sighed inwardly almost wishing she didn't get this promotion.
Kisala looked over to Jagger Kawada smiling slightly. It was a nice change of pace from the irritation that the Shiba man turned out to be. Kisala bowed to the Kawada out of respect. She was one of the few that did not judge him based on expectations. She found those that did were just bigots. "Good evening Jagger Kawada, I must say that this is quite the party that your family put together. Though I would have liked for something a little more casual." She said with a slight laugh.

"It's as they tell us," Jagger Kawada replied to Kisala with a firm grin. "Reviving the Kawada family is everything, and failure is nothing." So that was why his gaze must have fallen even momentarily upon Sozen Kuchiki, for Jagger had been the top of the academy. The most prodigious to have existed in generations. One day he would even become a Captain himself, was a rumor. But his destiny had been forever altered when he was defeated by the Kuchiki Heir. It was that moment when it became clear that not only was the Kuchiki the strongest family, but it produced the finest warriors. The Kawadas had contested this for years, but now... There was proof.
"What brings you to us?" Sozen asked politely. "A message from my superior," Jagger replied. He kept it intentionally vague, Sozen noticed. Who was this superior spoken of? It was a Kawada of the upper brass, but he did not say anything which indicated fealty to the current Head. It was a very noticeable choice of words, and one which Sozen wondered about. However, he chose not to wonder aloud, because that would be rude for the moment. Right now, he had to listen to what Jagger had to say. "There have been rumors of a strong Hollow residing in the old outskirt pyramids. My superior would like you to capture it in exchange for the favor."
Sozen knew then who Jagger spoke for. One of those very upper brass Kawadas had done Sozen a favor and expected one in return. It was all a game of manipulating one another, and Sozen had another chip to play in this game. He nodded, accepting this, and before long Jagger Kawada left. This left only Kisala and Sozen once again alone together, having engaged in conversation and been interrupted three times now. Three interruptions was quite enough, and Sozen decided that since he had gotten to know Kisala a little bit, it was a good time for him to plant the seed of strength in her, and for her to grow.
Sozen called out with his reiatsu, beckoning sweetly for a Hell butterfly to come. One, black in color with violet decorated wings, soon landed on his finger, and after relaying to it the message that he wanted to, Sozen released it. He looked at Kisala, and smiled a calculating smile. "I want you to come with me on this mission tomorrow," he said. "In the early morning as the sun begins to rise, meet me outside of the Squad 6 barracks, at the very entrance. There, we will begin on our way to investigate the pyramids on the outskirts of the Soul Society." Pyramids built by Soul Reapers many thousands of years ago. What mysteries did they hold?
But, this was ideal. Kisala being invited on a mission. Further evaluation of the Shihoin's next generation would prove beneficial, even prudent. After all, Okami Shihoin was one of Sozen's good friends, and the Shihoin had been the strongest of the alliances with the Kuchikis for many generations. While such could no longer said to be true, it was certainly worth their time to try to reforge old alliances. Maybe Kisala could advise her temperamental older sister a little bit. Then again, they seemed to share in the anger. At any rate, Sozen soon left Kisala for the rest of the party, but made it clear that she was expected in the morning. She didn't have to go, but he was a Captain. Technically, she had no choice.
OOC: Next post have Kisala prepare for the mission, and then arrive in front of the barracks.
