The concept of soul mates is something many dismiss as a romantic notation that couldn’t possibly exceed its current status as a ridiculous myth. Even Marcus, who’s tragic past had hardened him into a practical realist that saw things as they were, wasn’t capable of believing in the idea of soul mates. Love was in his grasp, for his affection for Harle was very real in his eyes. He hadn’t ever considered the possibility of soul mates existing, but didn’t he and Harle reinforce that fantasy?
After all, they had only met each other that day, yet their personalities were in sync and there was already physical chemistry building between them. It couldn’t be possible for two people to have personalities that compliment each other naturally or for a relationship to grow so quickly between two, but there was always an exception. Marcus couldn’t have asked for a better stroke of luck.
"I love you, Marcus." The young ma truly wanted to mirror her and repeat those words to her, but he wasn’t able to form them. At least not yet, but it was undeniable that he did love Harle just as she loved him. Marcus was just an emotionally scarred man who needed more time than most, but that didn’t reduce his affection for Harle at all. If anything, the fact that she brought out the best in him and made him stronger helped only to strengthen their bond.
"Thank you, Marcus, for everything." She grasped him firmly with no intention of letting him slip out of her arms. Marcus had no intention to leave her for a second, so he could only tighten his arm’s embrace around her. Harle only pulled away to meet Marcus’s tender gaze. Her bright smile illuminated her features, complimented only by her shining hazel eyes and smooth, flawless skin. She chuckled lightly as she asked, “Zo, shall we partake of ze bed now Marcus?" Her laughter was contagious, and the man found himself beaming beside her.
“Of course,” he responded softly. Her noticed the fatigue pulling her eyelids down and draining her energy. Marcus was used to going extended periods of time without sleep, but he was willing to lay beside Harle for the night or even catch an hour of sleep himself. He silently led her to the bedroom, but those moments of silence were not awkward. It was like that scene in Pulp Fiction where one character discusses how silences don’t have to be awkward if the two people are comfortable enough with each other to sit in silence. There was no discomfort in the quiet on Marcus’s end, for he was just enjoying every moment with the woman.
Once they crawled into bed, awkwardness resumed with Marcus. He was unsure how to proceed and felt that being respectful and giving Hale her space would be the best choice. Therefore, he lay on his side with his back to Harle at the very edge of the bed to insure that she was comfortable. However, he began to hear and feel Harle moving underneath the covers. He only understood what she was doing when she moved toward him, pressing her warm bare body against his from behind. Mi family, didn't have much money to buy many clothes, zo, um.... I .. sleep like zis."
“I-it’s f-fine…” Marcus could understand, though the situation made him very nervous. He was scared of the intimacy while fearful that somehow, he may disrespect Harle. But she was most comfortable sleeping nude, and he understood that, though comfort wasn’t something Marcus sought for himself. He was happy sleeping in anything other than his Uzaki Enterprise combat suit, if he slept at all. He was the type of person that worked to help others, such as Kazura and Uzaki Enterprise. Now, Harle was a priority in his life, and ensuring the safety and comfort of the people he cared for outweighed small luxuries such as comfortable sleep in his eyes.
"I.. never did zis befo, so, um.. can you keep me warm zis night?" The human didn’t hesitate before nodding. Harle’s happiness mattered more to him than any of his own personal wants, and he was more than happy to turn around and embrace the beautiful woman by placing his arm around her. They would be close enough so that he could feel her breath. “Good night, Harle. Sweet dreams…” Marcus would shut his eyes for an extended period to relax and enjoy the moment. It was common for him to lose track of time on these long, thoughtful nights, so he had no clue how late or early it was when he opened his eyes next. The only thing he knew for certain was that Harle would be asleep considering how exhausted she was.
And so Marcus spent the next couple of hours with his own gracious thoughts, thanking the world for the good fortune of arranging his crossing of paths with Harle. He considered the difficulties that may arise based on their races and obligations, considering that he had no way to reach Harle from the human world. He had hoped to organize a means of communication with her when he woke up, but at approximately four in the morning, a silent message was sent to his phone, and he silently reached into his pocket to read it.
From Kazura:
Urgent mission. Report at HQ in thirty minutes for a task in Moscow. Plane is ready to leave now.
The Fullbringer could only sigh quietly with disappointment. Here he was engaged in what could only be described as the best moment of his life, and his obligations to Kazura and Uzaki Enterprise interefered with his fantasy. Of course, there was no possibility of him saying no to Kazura, so he would have to abandon Harle as he slept, though he regretted having to do so. Marcus could only change into his western business attire, pack his combat suit, and write a small note to Harle that he left on the nightstand closest to her side of the bed before taking off. Marcus wasn’t good with words, but he tried to make the short letter as affectionate as possible to make up for having to leave her in the middle of the night, a feat that doesn’t have great prospects for success. But Marcus had to try, so the note read:
Dear Harle,
Thank you for an amazing night. I can’t wait to see you again, but Kazura is sending me on an urgent mission for an indefinite period of time to take care of affairs in Moscow. I’ll miss you, and I don’t know how to contact you when you go back to Soul Society, so I left my phone number on the back of this note so you can call me if you’re ever in the area. Or you can stop by anytime, I would enjoy such a pleasant surprise. Take care and I hope to see you soon.
Love,
Marcus.
