A voice in the dark spoke to the sleeping Kyomei, a muscled and calloused hand rousing him awake. A familiar voice, still tempered with finesse, but now with a rough cadence that wasn't there before, spoke. "'ey. Kyo. Wake up." A grin stretched across the olive skin of his face, briefly flashing his pearly whites. "Look, I don' have much time tah catch up. Meet me tomorrow mornin' outside tha Wes' Rukon. Got it?" After receiving confirmation, he jumped back through the window, landing with a heavy *thud* on the ground.
--That Morning--
In the wilderness outside the West Rukon, where the buildings disappeared and, almost immediately, thick forest began, Kubi awaited his good friend. His shirt was off, his tanned skin, rippling with muscles, drenched with sweat as Kubi shadow-boxed a tree. A wide scar, still pink from recent trauma, was on his chest, thrown into sharp relief by the flexing of his abdomen as, with a perfectly executed right hook, a tree was blown in half. A grin spread across his face, his body pausing automatically, holding the pose as bark rained down on him. With a satisfied grin, he straightened up. His right hand reached over and grabbed his left, pulling the arm over his head in a stretch. And then, a twig broke the silence in the forest.

It was a dark night in the Seireitei, and most of the Shinigami were asleep, save for the unlucky few with the graveyard watch. Couldn't be too careful when there was a multi-front war claiming dozens of lives daily on all sides. A dark figure silently slipped into the Kuchiki Mansion and made its way to a small, mostly unfurnished bedroom. There was a small mirror on the wall and a wardrobe with various sets of a military uniform, with some casual clothes tucked into drawers below. Attached to a bedpost was a small wooden arm band, inscribed with the Kanji for 4, which was over top a robe, the Kanji for 6 on the sleeve. It was a bare bones room, as if the one who owned it was not nearly as rich or influential as the rest of the house. And in the single bed in the center of the room, there lie a Shinigami of average height, snoring softly.
The dark figure slipped across the room towards the sleeping Soul Reaper, raising his rough hand up towards the neck of the one sleeping. The highly muscled hand stopped its advance at the shoulder, gripping it softly and gently shaking the sleeping Shinigami until he awoke. " 'ey, Kyo. Wake up." A pair of eyelids opened to reveal light brown eyes, barely visible in the almost complete darkness. As it was, the now awake Shinigami could barely make out the shape of the figure that had woken him, even though his eyes were used to the darkness there just wasn't enough light present. "Could it really be you, my friend?" Kyomei, the one who had been sleeping, was unable to believe his ears, nor what his eyes were telling him, for the figure in front of him seemed to be a friend long since thought to be dead.
"Look, I don' have much time tah catch up. Meet me tomorrow mornin' outside tha Wes' Rukon, got it?" Kyomei nodded, though sleepily, and the figure jumped out of the window, disappearing once again in the night. And Kyomei then fell back into a shallow, nightmare haunted sleep from the sudden memories of horrors unspeakable being drug up from the depths of his soul. Again and again he saw the image of one of his best friends being sliced into, the crazed demon Ka-Ek, the Prime Ogatago, standing in a shower of his friend's blood with a smile on his face. The scythe of the demon dripped with crimson blood, and he laughed before charging at Kyomei himself. There were flames, and rape, and screams until Kyomei found himself screaming himself awake, the sunrise at his back. "Kubi"
Whether it was a dream or not, the 4th Seat would not be content unless he had sought out his friend to see if he really had survived the horrors of the Game Master's Laboratory out in the Wilderness. With a hastily thrown together outfit fit for any sort of occasion, just a simply hakama and shirt, Kyomei rushed off towards the West Rukon in search of his lost friend. Since it was a time of war, and that just recently they had found the main Ogatago base in the Soul Society of all places, the Shinigami had his small, but effective, set of weaponry on his person, tucked into his cloth belt. In a flash Kyomei was in and out of the Rukongai, homing in on the spiritual presence that he could sense in the distance. He blundered through the forest, snapping a twig as he entered a clearing, where a figure stood shadow boxing.
Kubi grinned at the arrival of his old friend. He walked towards him, his feet crunching the twigs on the ground with none of his previous silence. With a grin, he plopped on the ground, laying on his back. He gestured towards Kyomei. "Yah. I'm back. Come join me on th' ground, why doncha?" From this position, the raised ridges of the scar, crossing from the top of his ribcage to the bottom of his stomach on the right side, was highly visible, casting a shadow over his stomach. "And I'm different now. More free." He grinned at Kyomei. Then his gaze grew distant, lost in memories. "And I fell in love. She was ... oh, Kami. Kyo, you would have loved her ... she was wonderful." For a brief second, his eyes showed true, undiluted happiness. Then rage spread across his features.
"And then ... and then he arrived. That shit stain, Kuroi Naito, Segunda Espada. She ... oh, kami, there was blood everywhere. And our unborn child ... I couldn't continue on after that, not in the World of the Living, not where she once thrived.. For a moment that lasted a millennium, a tear fell from the hard lines of the Vice Captain's face. Then the grin was back. "So I returned to the Soul Society. And here I am! Thought you'd like t' be the f'rst t' know of my return! Not even th' Old Man knows yet!" With a grin, he sat up.
OOC: Short, but hell, not much to go on! When they start training, it'll be longer.
Kyomei just couldn't believe his eyes. It truly was his friend standing before him, Kubi Tsure, who had been the Vice Captain of Squad 2. "Kubi, are you really here?" The words croaked from Kyomei's lips as he could barely manage a loud whisper. "Yah. I'm back. Come join me on th' ground, why doncha?" As Kubi fell back into the grass, so too did Kyomei sink to his knees, the usually calm Shinigami being noticeably moved. His eyes started to water and a tear ran down his cheek before escaping his face towards the ground below, where it would be absorbed by the grass. Through tear filled eyes, Kyomei noticed the scar that stretched across Kubi's entire body, from rib cage to stomach.
"My friend... I was too weak... I couldn't stop the beast the monster the demon the freak the PAIN. I couldn't do it, I watched with perfect clarity as you were struck down and your lifeblood filled the air as a fountain... How can you lie there so calm when the guilty one is before you. I was just not strong enough... But I've gotten stronger, I promise! Faster, stronger, built to last longer. If only I could have granted you the protection that you deserved, kept you from being touchable..." As Kyomei trailed off, Kubi spoke some more about the life that he had lived while away, and the suffering that he had gone through, his voice becoming laced with a mixture of heartfelt hurt and utter rage. "Just as it has always been my friend, we'll grow stronger together."

The mask of fun that Kubi normally wore slipped away as Kyomei spoke about his failure, an amused smile taking it's place. Kubi looked at his old friend, his face showing no signs of his inner turmoil; and then, he brought one finger up and flicked Kyomei on the forehead, the force of it being plenty to knock him back. "You always were too empathic for your own good ..." All serious now, he looked at Kyomei, his brown eyes forgiving. "You didn't endanger me, my friend. Twas I whom endangered you." His eyes were downcast. "I was not strong enough to destroy that bastard Ka-Ek ... because of him, because of my weakness, I put you in danger." He spat weakness like a curse. His voice turned sad. "I put all of Soul Society in danger ..." It was obvious he was quite beat up about this.

Kyomei felt himself being thrown backwards with considerable force. All Kubi had done was raise his hand and flick the Kuchiki in the face, but it had been enough to lift him off the ground and land him straight on his butt. Kyo listened to his friend beat himself up emotionally, speaking of his weakness. It would appear that they both felt weak and that they alone were at fault in the matter. "I propose that neither of us take the blame for what happened, and just move on. It truly was the monster Ka-Ek's fault for what he did to you and to me. We need to get stronger, together, to combat these menaces that threaten our home. However, it would appear that you've already gotten stronger, at least physically..."
Kyomei stood up with a sparkle in his eyes, a mischievous one. The 4th Seat had gotten faster, now surpassing Kubi since he had gotten much slower. If, however, Kubi had gotten much stronger, this could work extremely well in their favor. "Kubi... What say we have a little fun? I'm going to get a running start and jump, you toss me forwards, and I Shunpo at extreme speeds? Sound like fun to you?" Kyomei was stoked to work alongside his friend in such a manner, especially since they hadn't seen each other in so long. Getting a good ways back, Kyomei started running at Kubi, jumping so that his feet would be near Kubi's hands. It was the Vice Captain's job to give Kyo a boost so that when he stepped off with a Shunpo at the same time that Kubi released his body, their combined speeds and strengths would be boosted to Shunpo speeds, nearing ten thousand stat speed. It'd hurt, but boy would it be a rush.

Kubi stared at Kyomei for a second, then started to laugh, a deep, melodious laugh. He patted Kyomei once on the back. "Aye! Well said. And this time, no Akki fucks will tear us apart." A look of guilt crossed his face. "And next time, I will tell you before I leave ... and invite you to my wedding... maybe if you had been there, she wouldn't have died ..." A sad smile crossed his face as he said this. A tear from his eyes, rent from an expression of guilt so deep, one would think he killed her himself.
But he shook himself out of it, a grin spreading across his face as he heard what Kyomei offered. "Shit, you crazy bastard, you could get hurt." His grin grew wider. "Let's fuckin' do it." As Kyomei ran towards him, he bent down, his legs spread in a horse stance, his hands intertwined to Kyomei to step on them. And as he did so, Kubi would fling his arm upwards, his massive strength propelling Kyomei through air at 925 Stat speed, his own massive strength and Kyomei's speed. Kubi shook out his hands and watched Kyomei, in case something should go wrong.

“Yahoooooooooo!” It was almost like flying again. There had been one time, long ago, where with the help of Taien Hadohou, Kyomei had been able to produce a Large sized wind aura and been able to fly, and this was almost as good. As Kubi pushed forwards and Kyomei jumped off of his hands in a perfectly timed Shunpo, Kubi would be blasted back from the force of the other Shinigami surpassing Mach 2 in speeds. Rushing about at supersonic speeds was absolutely exhilarating, the wind flowing through his hair and causing his clothes to billow about him. The speed at which he was travelling was abruptly cut short as the Shunpo ended, which was very disorienting, to say the least. He still slid forward for a few moments at a speed around 900, before getting a face full of dirt. To try and regain his footing perfectly on the first attempt would have been impossible, especially as he’d never reached that sort of extreme speed. Popping up to his feet, Kyomei rushed back towards Kubi, obviously excited at their new development. “That was awesome! We need to try more things like that!”

Kubi whistled as, on one knee, he watched Kyomei disappear completely from sight. He soon reappeared into sight, slowing down ... then slamming facefirst into the dirt. Kubi winced. "Ooh. Ouch. That's gotta hurt." A quick trot brought him over to Kyomei, whom he helped up. At his friends exuberant words, Kubi laughed heartily. "Aye. It w's indeed fun." He fell silent for a moment, glancing down at the crystal band on his left hand. "I need to get stronger."
He glanced at Kyomei. "We need to get stronger." His eyes burned with intensity. "We need to hone our skills. Together, we have the potential to be unstoppable ..." And he grinned as he said this. "But we don't know each other as well as we should. We don't know how the other fights, the intricate patterns of their minds, the way they think. We need to become one. And because of that ... I will show you my release."
Slowly, he unsheathed Joo Bachi, the blue sheen of the blade reflecting the mid-morning sun, at odds with the general black of it's wielder's attire. "Wound, Joo Bachi." In a flash of blue lights, quickly turning into a corona of blue stars surrounding Kubi, a gauntlet appeared on his arm, tinted blue. "Joo Bachi is the name of my Zanpakutou. Upon first glance, it appears to be a sole melee zanpakutou. But that is not all it does." With that, he swung around and punched a tree.
The tree didn't so much as break as exploded into infinitesimal pieces. The top part of the tree fell forward, carried several feet by the sheer force of the punch. "Joo Bachi's initial power is to increase the power of my blows. The sheer force is increased with my strength." He smiled wryly. "But that's obvious. What you wouldn't know is that with a touch, I can get information on an opponent." With that, he touched Kyomei. He closed his eyes and exhaled deeply. Then, his eyes snapped open.
"For example, I know that you have great Spiritual Energy and speed, but your physical strength is lacking. I also know where to hit to cause the most pain." Then he laughed. "Yet Joo Bachi has many more techniques at her disposal. First and foremost is ... Mugen no Kokucho!" As he stated the words, a cascade of green stars surrounded the gauntlet. Once again, he punches a tree. And once again, the tree all but explodes and is sent flying.
But this time, something different was happening. This time, the tree didn't just come to rest. Kubi pointed out both the wood chips and the tree on the ground. "Watch." And as they watched, Kyomei would notice something strange, something terrifying; they were slowly getting smaller. Within several seconds, the wood chips had completely disintegrated. The tree had shrunk by a quarter of an inch and constantly going. Kubi smiles wryly. "This is Mugen no Kokucho. Every one of my strikes will grow bigger, more life-threatening. Over several seconds, every wound will grow by half-an-inch." Kubi's eyes narrowed menacingly. "And the opponent will feel every. last. millimeter."

Kubi helped Kyomei to his feet, then began to talk about getting stronger. It was just beating a dead horse, because they both had already established that to keep themselves and others safe, they needed to improve. However, he had a perfect way of getting stronger, training until they understood the inner workings of each other. For the Kuchiki, he needed to understand Kubi's release, first and foremost. "Wound, Joo Bachi." There was a flash of lights, flowing around Kubi like stars, before settling on a gauntlet around his fist. Then the Shinigami said that his Shikai could increase the force of his blows, before blasting a tree into pieces. It was quite impressive, to say the least. "Hmmm, does that mean that you can throw me even faster than before?"
Whether or not Kubi responded to the question, he later moved on in his explanation of his Zanpakutou's abilities. It could analyze an opponents abilities for some reason, and even know where to hit and be most effective. Then he activated some sort of technique that made green stars surround his fist. As he punched yet another tree and ripped it to shreds, he pointed out the wood chips, which slowly decreased in size until they dissipated completely. "Impressive, impressive. Now it's my turn to show you what I'm capable of. As you well know, I do not have a Zanpakutou. However, I have a unique set of skills that makes me a nightmare for people like you, people who cannot sense energy. There are few who have witnessed my powers' effect, fewer still who have actually been able to see my powers in action."
Kyomei took a few steps back, and caused an orb of Shakkaho to rest above his palm. "Isn't it beautiful? You see this to be just plain red, but I see inside it, down to its very core, down to the nature of the Kidou, not just the reiatsu construct that is visible. Just resting beneath the surface is something far greater, something much more potent than the average Shinigami is capable of." The orb hovering above Kyomei's hand dispersed, the Kidou unused. Holding his hands up, he shook out his arms and cracked his knuckles before letting out a sigh. "This is going to hurt, a little." The Kuchiki gestured for Kubi to get a little distance away, in order to keep himself safe. When he was far enough away, Kyomei would fire a kidou of absolute destruction. Everything close by that wasn't part of the earth itself was blasted away as the Soul Reaper let out Hado 53, Surasutoeria. He himself was thrown up into the air by it, and as he got close to landing his body slowed down a little before hitting the ground and rolling to reduce the impact.
"Meh, only scraped an elbow this time, not too bad. Anyways, you may or may not have noticed that I started to decelerate as I got two feet off the ground. That is because, at this moment, there are powerful winds coming off of my body, two feet in all directions at once, except beneath my feet right now since I like being firmly on the ground. Come, run at me, you'll feel it even though you can't see it." With Kyomei's extremely potent reiatsu strength, Kubi would be unable to get very close to him, and would be pushed aside without much trouble. When Kubi had given up on coming at Kyomei, the Kuchiki let go of the Wind Aura and prepared another Kidou. "Do you remember the Wanashudan that you tried to learn on the volcano back before the base happened? That was just one of them. This one is a bit more useful for combat." With a loop of his hands and a jagged line etching across the air, a circle appeared beneath Kyomei, though neither Kubi nor Kyomei could actually see it. Taking just a small step back and holding out a hand, after five seconds a long thin spike of rock resembling bamboo emerged and impaled his hand.
The wound on his hand would hurt, but it was worth it. A field of reiatsu now covered his entire body creating a perfect shield that required over 1800 RS or Strength to pierce. A simple punch from the not impaled fist was enough to crush the thin spike. The Wanashudan had also created a similar spike on all of the four cardinal points of the circle that was engraved two yards in diameter, but they were of no real importance. "I know that you are much stronger than I, but I need to demonstrate my next ability, seeing as you are unable to sense energy I need a better way to do so. We shall arm wrestle. I am weak and will lose, but you'll see what I'm able to do with the Aura of Stone that is currently protecting my body." Moving to the stump of the tree that had not been knocked down by Mugen no Kokucho, Kyomei put his arm in a ready stance, waiting for his friend to do the same.
The first round would be an undeniable, overwhelming loss for Kyomei. With only human strength, Kubi and his insane amounts of strength would easily crush the much weaker Shinigami. The second round would also be a loss, but there would be a little bit of a difference. Though Kubi couldn't see it, Kyomei's Aura had changed. Instead of being exuded from his body, the Soul Reaper focused it inwards. This had created a 30% increase in his strength. His strength stat was now 65, which wasn't a huge difference, but Kubi and his gauntlet that could somehow figure out things about his opponent might register the subtle shift in strength. Round three would be where things got fun.
Kubi would actually lose this round much like Kyomei lost the first round, with an overwhelming defeat. Kubi would actually be able to see the change in the Kuchiki, as a bright light preceded his entire body turning like stone. Even his eyes became like stone, reducing his ability to see with as much clarity as before. This was his ultimate technique, one that no one in the soul society had witnessed. The Aspect of Stone was now revealed. In this form, Kyomei's strength became what his reiatsu strength was. Meaning, Kyomei had 1200 strength and could easily overpower Kubi's now meager amount of strength, in comparison. "I have a form for every element, even the absence of elements."

"Er ... not exactly. Even though I couldn't physically cut you, I could still really hurt you with this ability. Your internal organs would be mush." Kubi backed up a little at Kyomei's behest. When he activated his Kidou, Kubi's mouth flew wide open. "Holy shit! That's some powerful fucking magic!" He yelled, wind whipping his hair around his face. "Shit ... what spell was that? It don't seem familiar."
Kubi remained cautious as Kyomei activated the Wanashuden rune; he had felt first hand the effects of it. It was not enjoyable. Dark brown eyes narrowed as suddenly, a spike of stone ruptured upwards and punctured Kyomei's hand. Kubi gasped. "Shit, dude! Warn me before you do that!" He shook his hand. Then blanched. "You wanna ... what? Fine, whatever. Your funeral."
He sat on one side of the stump, his arm in the classic pose. And, as predicted, he won. And again, though the second time was marginally harder. But the third time, Kubi couldn't make Kyomei's arm budge. Surprised as his hand was slammed down on and through the tree stump, he fell with a hard crash on the ground. "Ow, shit!" He climbed back up. "Shit, dude ... that was amazing. That was ... by the gods. Can ya do that with senses?" He asked, a plan hatching in his mind.

since this is a training thread you each get 10 TP for every two paragraphs total in the thread. I counted 25 total paragraphs, ignoring mostly-dialogue paragraphs and the ones that were too small I lumped with another small one and called it one.
