Every year, the Shino Academy faculty choose a graduate who has shown exceptional skill and potential in the art of strategy and tactical thought. This student is awarded resources in order to advance his studies in this area. This year's Alternative Tactics Fellow is, you guessed it, Manabu Brock!
With the fellowship comes several responsibilities. For one thing, the fellow is required to record and submit his studies on a regular basis and is expected to publish at least one paper at the end of the year. He is also required to conduct at least one workshop during the year and pursue any research activities ordered by anyone holding a position of 4th seat or higher. Of course, the entire process is overseen by the fellowship board to ensure both that the fellow is making progress and that he is not overburdened.
This will be the first workshop conducted by Alternative Tactics Fellow Manabu Brock! The subject of this workshop is alternative kido application. Any shinigami is welcome to attend. Out of respect for the fellow and the Academy, it is customary for those attending the workshop to address the fellow as sensei.
The posting will be unusual for this thread. You may enter at any time with a question or observation. You may also remove yourself from posting order when your business is concluded. If the logical flow of posting is a back and forth between two people, the posting will proceed like that without the burden of others' observation.
Manabu is addressing a crowd of Shinigami in an outdoor kido range from a lectern. There are slightly ornate stone benches to accommodate the attendees.
"Hello, my name is Manabu Brock. Thank you all for attending today's workshop on alternative use of kido being given as part of my Alternative Tactics Fellowship. Additionally, I would like to thank "Old Lighting" Spiritual Arts Academy for giving me this fantastic opportunity. Let us begin. There has been some criticism from friends and enemies over the years about the reiatsu based abilities of the Shinigami. Our kido are accused of being rigid and stale. I admit that this is, indeed, the case, but that is only true when the kido are employed by a person who is rigid and stale.
Our kido provide structure. Just as kendo is the basis for zanjutsu, kido is the basis for reijutsu. Unfortunately, far too many shinigami stop with the basics. This is the spiritual equivalent of learning to swing a sword vertically and horizontally. The kido are our 198 kata. Careful study and mastery allow real application and even innovation of new kata.
During this workshop, I hope to explore some of the kido which are perhaps under-used and less than fully understood and thereby open your mind to new possibilities. I will demonstrate a new use of a kido of my choosing, and then I will take suggestions from you. We will explore alternative uses together. Hopefully, you may take what you've learned here and apply it on your own.
Now, someone, please cut off my head."
