The Path to Hollowfication
Those who are familiar with Bleach’s story know of the Vizards: Shinigami possessing an Inner Hollow, giving them great strength through the use of that Hollow’s power. Here on Bleach: Online World, there is an opportunity for those who choose to undergo a more grueling path to gain this power as well. Throughout this path, you will build up your Inner Hollow as its own character, developing its personality, goals, and actions as you grow in power yourself. Yet with great power comes great risk in the form of your Hollow taking over – could you end up possessed by that dark entity and become a dark Hollow Wraith, or will you tame it and take its power for your own as a full-fledged Vizard?
As you progress in this path, keep in mind that at the point where you are to fight your Inner Hollow, the person who is DMing your fight will likely aim to reference threads in which your Hollow has made an appearance in order to get a good feel on its personality and its agenda. For the best accuracy and immersion in this fight, try and keep your Hollow as consistent as possible in their personality. This will improve your gameplay experience immensely!
Now, below will be the steps involved in Hollowfication, as well as the potential paths going forward once you have reached the point of becoming a Vizard.
The Vizard Hopeful Path
1) App Creation and Early Leveling
Everything starts with a beginning, and that’s no different for a Vizard. As a Vizard Hopeful, you will apply as a Shinigami, albeit using the Vizard template which will include requirements such as defining your Inner Hollow much like you would your Zanpakuto Spirit, as well as describing your Vizard Mask for later. This application level is on par with a high-tier Captain; not just anyone can be a Vizard! We expect far more than the bare minimums when applying to be a Vizard, so make sure you fill out every section in detail and add as much about your character as you can!
From there, the basics of leveling are no different than any other Shinigami’s, so continue along your path normally until you hit Class 4. Note that you may have some small interaction with your Inner Hollow before the next step, but it is likely no more than a whisper on the edge of your consciousness, a hint of the darkness to come. Your real meeting will come later.
2) Initial Meeting of Inner Hollow
Once a Vizard Hopeful has reached Class 4, they are eligible for their first meeting with their Inner Hollow. This is an internalized meeting in the Inner World, whether it is your Zanpaktou Spirit’s world or that belonging to your Hollow. How the Hollow presents itself and what it does is up to the player, but it will always be hostile. Whether the Hollow seeks the host’s suffering, simply chooses to control or manipulate them, etc. is entirely up to you. Keep in mind that this will set up future interactions with your Inner Hollow!
3) First Takeover
At Class 3, your Inner Hollow will make its first attempt at a takeover; once more, its effectiveness and actions are up to the player. Some Hollows will be fought off, while others will take control for a while, and still others will leave their host paralyzed in the struggle to seize control. The trigger to the fight will once again be up to the player; whether it’s running out of Reiatsu in a difficult fight, a critical injury, or even a strong emotional reaction, something will cause the Hollow to react. This possession can last a maximum of three posts, though it can be shortened as player cinematics dictate. Once the possession is ended, the host will be left exhausted and drained of both physical and spiritual energy, unable to continue in a combat situation and requiring a full day’s rest to regain their strength.
Note that the previous step must be completed first and must be completed in a separate thread before this step can occur, even in instances where a player earns enough CTP to skip the Class in which the interaction happens.
4) Complete Takeover
At Class 2, the Inner Hollow will attempt yet another takeover, only this one is far more vicious than the first one, and will require a much lighter trigger to occur – wounds need only be serious without being life-threatening, as an example. Once it occurs, the Inner Hollow will take complete control. This possession lasts for a full three posts, during which time they will act indiscriminately based on their personality. They may attack allies or innocents, may seek to test their strength against a nearby ally, or may simply cause destruction for the sake of destruction. Whatever the case, it will act in a violent and aggressive manner, hostile towards everything around it. For these three posts, the host will be trapped within their Inner World, and will be unable to do anything but watch as their Inner Hollow wreaks its choice of havoc. The Inner Hollow has access to every one of its host’s abilities, including their Shikai and Bankai, should they possess it.
In order to take this step, all previous steps must be completed, each in their own thread.
5) Battle With the Inner Hollow
The final step before achieving Vizard status, this is the most difficult task to accomplish. Upon reaching Class 1 and meeting all prerequisites, the host is now in a state where their Inner Hollow can take command at any time. There may be brief moments where control is lost and the Inner Hollow may take over for a few moments, or there will be times where the risk of a second complete takeover is possible. Regardless, the host is now considered extremely dangerous to both themselves and all of Soul Society. Should their condition be known, a Kill on Sight order will be issued towards the host, leaving them at a high risk of death if they remain.
In order to fix this state and gain full control, the host must find a Vizard to help them. In the event that an RPC Vizard is not available, any staff member can host the thread with a NPC Vizard. The Vizard will then help the host to access the deepest parts of their Inner Hollow’s world, where they will meet the Inner Hollow face-to-face. At this point, combat is inevitable, and the battle for control of the body will begin.
There are two ways to win this battle. The first is to defeat the Inner Hollow; this is a daunting task, as they have 2x all of the hosts stats, giving them a decisive advantage. Additionally, they have access to the host’s Shikai and Bankai, and can wield it with equal skill to the user’s. The host must be clever and use all of their abilities in an exceptional manner to win, but victory by combat is still a possibility. The second way to win is more subtle, and is unique to each Inner Hollow fight. Through specific acts of self-realization or understanding, host can learn take direct control of their Inner Hollow and subdue it through the growth that results. This trigger will vary, and is up to the thread DM. The Inner Hollow will provide clues as the battle wages on, hinting at the host’s weaknesses. Victory will give the host control over their Inner Hollow, and they may pursue the Vizard path as seen below.
Defeat, however, has its own results: should the host be defeated by their Inner Hollow, they are the ones who are taken control of, their body given to their Inner Hollow and their own soul and psyche condemned to the Inner World much like a Zanpakuto Spirit. The twisted being that results from this loss is referred to as a Hollow Wraith, and they have their own unique path as seen below.
One last price comes with this step as well: by now, the Zanpakuto Spirit that the host possessed is likely to have been slain, consumed, or absorbed by the Inner Hollow, who by this point has established that they are the power behind the host’s Zanpakuto. While this is not guaranteed, it is almost certain, and will require strict justification for the Zanpakuto Spirit’s survival.
This step can be taken at any time at Class 1 or higher, as long as the following prerequisites are met. The first is that the user has achieved Bankai – without it, they won’t have enough power to fight off their Hollow. Fortunately, the inverse is true as well, and the Hollow will not begin the constant takeovers until the host has achieved Bankai, as there is not yet enough strength to draw upon. The second is the completion of all previous steps, including both takeovers.
Upon completion, the host is no longer a Vizard Hopeful – they are either a full-fledged Vizard, or a Hollow Wraith.
