Thread Title: Defender and Enforcer Participants: Shawn Raburedo, Hikari Kuchiki World: Soul Society Death Setting: Non Death Enabled Rating: R Location: Within the training yard of Seireitei, meant for general training purposes between squads, there is a grassy open plain that has several large boulders that are littered across the area and a small thicket of trees. Between the combatants is a small stream of water. Special Conditions: N/A Circumstances: Hikari Kuchiki and Shawn Raburedo meet together to test their skills and abilities. Meant to push each other to a high extent. Medics remain on the standby, considering how intense these kinds of bouts can become.
Angel was the name she went by. Though there was hardly anything angelic about her. Appearing before this opening training field, she had settled in meditation while she waited for her opponent to arrive, and in truth, she had a lot of things to reflect on in her life. She thought back to her past, her time serving the Shihoin family as a servant. It seemed like a distant memory, all things considered. How she'd come to become an enforcer of justice. Angel was very serious, stoic, and solemn all of the time.
She rarely if ever smiled. Pulling on her fingerless leather gloves, she considered her circumstances in life as she prepared for this field exercise. Rising from her stance, she stood along the grassy knolls, her foot lightly sliding along the grass as she felt its crunch. It hadn't rained in a while. She could tell. The sun shining overhead was an annoyance, without a seeming cloud in the sky to offer respite. The shade of the trees was her only solace. Everything here seemed very calm.
Dark rings lingered under her eyes, and she seemed to remain robotically still. She'd felt in honest times a sense of isolation from people. As she danced with her inner demons and her thoughts of inadequacies as of recent. She executed the law, swiftly, and harshly. During the invasion of Soul Society, she found herself killing demons and damning them to the hellish plain where they belonged. Afterwards, she found herself beating and putting down dissenters with as much force as was appropriate. Considering the scale of invasion? Well. There wasn't putting it gently.
There was a far amount of dissent. Hikari was a small girl. She looked very lithe. Untying a bit of cloth from around her waist, she wraps it around her hair to make a pony tail that fell to her shoulders. She brushed off her robes. Standing just slightly taller than five foot, and the youthful, granted glum look on her face, she rested with twin blades by her side. One of which was was a blade with jagged edges, seemingly made from bone. The other of which was the standard Asauchi.

Today would prove to be interesting, Shawn was pretty darn sure of that. He got a letter a few days ago from a Shinigami named Angel, it seemed they wanted to test their abilities against the new Vice Captain of Squad 13 which he took that as a great chance to train. Preparing for his trip to the training field built for all squads to use, of course this will be his first time using it. When it comes to training area's he generally used the Squad 11's training ground, as he used to be a part of the squad, or a clearing in one of the Rukongai that was near a river and forest.
Grabbing his Lieutenant badge and placing it on his left arm Shawn get's ready to head out. Pausing after he leaves his office/room in order to get the attention of a passing by squad 13 member. "If anyone needs me I'll be at the joint training ground. Taking some time to train before I go through more paper work." After getting a nod and a "Yes Sir" he makes his way to leave his new barracks.
It's a strange feeling, only a few weeks ago Shawn was still just another unseated officer that belonged to squad 11. After the Hell invasion though, Captain Celes searched him out and even suggested he try for the Vice Captain position of squad 13. Figuring he would like being a part of the squad and as the last captain disappeared after saving a large amount of lives, she figured it needed someone to take a leading position. It took him a while before he actually made a decision, but in the end he trusted Celes and her decision making skills. In fact he finds her to be completely correct, there was many things he could accomplish as a leader of this squad. He could possibly increase the defense capabilities of the Seireitei or even find a way to invade the long time enemies known as the Vandenreich.
It seems Shawn was lost in thought, for when he next looked up the training ground was already in sight. It's a shame really, this was a good squad for him but there's always more that needs to be done or worked on. For now though he would focus on the spar he would be participating in today. Walking into the training area it took him a minute before he spotted who he assumed to be Angel, the one who asked for this spar.
Walking up to this shorter women, Shawn let's her know of his presence. "Are Y-you Angel? I'm Sh-Shawn Rabuburedo, the Vise Captain of squad 13. I'm ready to spar whenever you are, it's been some time s-since my last practice match." The one problem he still faced, even as the new Vice Captain of a squad he still had problems with talking with people he doesn't really know. This was something he intended on working on, but even still he had to act like a Vice Captain. So even if he felt nervous, he'd have to suck it up and show why he has his position.
Shawn approached, and with it, he seemed to stumble on his words. Her coal black eyes looking up at him with apprehension as she seemed cold and indifferent. Shawn Raburedo. The Lieutenant of the 13th division. She bowed her head formally in respect for attaining his position. "Fourth Seat of the Seventh Division, Hikari Nisei." The name literally meaning "False Light", it itself was a bit of an alias as she gazed him up and down. He was a lieutenant? The aura he carried seemed to show off as insecure.
Though. Perhaps that was deceiving. She'd seen the power of a Lieutenant before. She'd felt it through her very body and soul as he ripped through her greatest defenses and held off against her greatest attacks. "Let's not waste time." She said it in such a way as if someone was about to die. Solemnly. Medics were on standby, and if this was going to be a battle of skill and power? Well.
There was little point in holding back. Was there? Turning her back, she began to walk down the path, to get a respectable distance before their match would start in earnest. But even as she did, she began to chant in her mind. Focusing her spiritual energy as she turned. A deep breath as she drew her katana from its sheath with a single shlick from the scabbard. A single moment of breath.
She moved in, and she moved in fast. In a blur of movement, she forms a long purple rod in her right hand, before she hurls it downward straight towards the Lieutenant. However, it would begin to multiply in mid flight. Thirty long, large rods flying towards the blonde warrior in a seemingly erratic spread, looking to either pin him, and or catch him inbetween its folds to immobilize his movements. Bakudo #62. Hyapporankan. This Bakudo, she only really used to immobilize monster like enemies. Beasts.
Lieutenants in Hikari's mind were monsters. Monsters that were the second best in their division. Second only to the Captain. So, it was only natural of course that she'd imagine that he wouldn't disappoint compared to her own. Her movements had no lag or hesitation in them. She was going at Shawn with everything she had. Considering the nature of this meeting, she hoped he would do her a similar courtesy.
Assuming he did indeed successfully dodge and evade her initial barrage of Hyapporankan, she leaps atop the purple rods, hopping from rod to rod, using them as stepstones to give her the high ground, giving her now a geographical vantage over him. Her breath was steady, and she seemed to have no emotion on her face. Only a stoicism and coldness in her eyes as she made her way ever closer to him while observing and gathering information through his actions about his limitations.
With the sun shining down above her, her shadow stretching below him, she might have been difficult to squint at. However, her eyes looked down at him like a hawk. She intended to give him no time to rest or recover, and instead, she desired little more than to fight him. Warrior to warrior and display the extent of her abilities. Hopefully, he wouldn't resent her for being a bit overzealous. After all. Times were rough and hard, and as all people knew. Hard times bred hard people.

After giving the girl his name, Shawn was pleased to listen to her own introduction. Her name being Hikari Nisei and being the fourth seat of squad 7, better known for being the "police" force of the Gotei 13. In fact he had heard the squad currently didn't have a captain, apparently the Vice Captain wasn't even taking the position himself even though he probably could. That Vice Captain he has also heard to be quite the fearsome opponent, taking on highly powerful enemies and walking away to tell the tale.
Not wanting to wait longer Angel spoke up to Shawn, "Let's not waste time." With that the girl turns her back and begins moving away, creating distance between the two of them for the fight. This was a spare, but it would be rude not to give the opponent his all, holding back would almost be an insult as if to say you're not worth my full potential. Grasping the grip of both his Zanpakuto on his back and sword on his right hip, he was preparing mentally for this battle.
Suddenly Angel would turn around and to most would have all but disappeared, however, the moment she began to turn Shawn would call out for his Zanpakuto to release. "Reach Out, Kami no te", with those words spoken a power would release from his body that seemed to have been sealed away. With his new increased instincts of 200 and his Senses of 200 he managed to keep track of his opponent. The problem is he still couldn't physically keep up with this speed, thus he must prepare the best he could. If Angel was watching her opponent she might notice his demeanor change after releasing, going from nervous and maybe even fidgety to eerily calm and calculating.
Thanks to his new sensory capabilities Shawn was able to see the rod form in Angel's hand. As this was a Bakudo he planned on learning eventually there was no chance he didn't know it to be Bakudo #62 Hyapporankan. There was only a few ways he could avoid being pinned by this attack, thus he began mentally speaking the words Bakudo #81: Danku causing a tall and wide barrier of reiatsu to form in front of him. Any rod that made contact with this barrier would immediately stop them in their tracks causing them to drop to the ground in front of him.
With that done the opponent would instantly switch to jumping from rod to rod, heading at him quite quickly. Angel knew what she was doing, keeping the sun to her back making it difficult for most to keep track of her movements. Thankfully with such high senses Shawn managed to keep his eyes on her, though following her movements with sound more than sight to ensure the sun didn't allow her to slip in an attack unnoticed.
She was a clever opponent Shawn had to admit, with his new found calmness he could see how every move she made was absolutely aimed to make fighting her difficult. It seems he would have to use a few tricks to bring her down. Taking his left hand off of the grip that belonged to the sword on his right hip, he would channel reiatsu into it creating and quickly firing of a Concussive blast separated into eight different balls of fire. These three foot diameter balls of fire moved at a speed of 600, fired in two rows with one row being on top going above the rods while the other four where lower aiming to destroy all the rods in front of him that are standing.
Creates a clear, very high and wide barrier of reiatsu instantaneously in front of the user. Can be used to block reiatsu attacks, low level physical attacks, and any Kido from numbers 1-89, though this is also still dependent on the user's reiatsu strength.
How to use technique:
This can be cast with mental thought, with hand motions, or with naming it. This requires no special movements for casting.
Incantation and Effect:
The strength of the technique goes up 40% from incantation. (I.E. Reiatsu strength valued at 100 is instead valued at 140 during incantation.) "Barrier of dust, shield of north, protector of Men! Arise from ashes and reveal our weakness. Dissolve into air and hide our sins! On altars of greed we call you. In graves of virtue we worship you. Bind, scatter, reduce to ash! Cripple, crush, dissolve!"
Technique Description and Effects: [This ability fires small fiery blasts of energy, moving at speeds of 600, that explode upon impact with anything. This is unique, as you don't have to fire a single shot of energy, but can fire these in groups. The offensive stat of this is reiatsu strength .]
How to use technique: [There are two ways to fire this ability. The first way to fire this, is to fire a single, large blast, the size of a car. This version will have the full offensive stat of the user. The second version fires many smaller blasts. In order to make more than one fireball, the offensive stat of this attack is split in half, being evenly divided between them. The lowest offensive stat the fireballs can have is 50. You fire them from the palm of your hand.]
Technique Drawbacks: [100 reiatsu, weaker when fired in mass.]
She watched him, and with it, she was keenly aware that to cast a spell such as Danku implied that he couldn't evade them in time on his own. A note as she pressed on her assault. However, as his Danku fell, which it would eventually, he released a very strange assault that Hikari had never seen before. Not that it would matter. Landing atop one of the rods, due to Shawn deciding to split his spiritual power across so many balls, a total of eight, they'd be incapable of shattering her rods.
Cracking them somewhat, or chipping a piece off. Perhaps. Though they stood strong. Their total strength being around 125 each. As some of the orbs came flying up to Hikari herself at a fast speed, in that blitzing motion, she wordlessly raises a hand. A spinning circular locking shield of orange comes forth, catching the assault as they blow against her shield. Shattering it into many little pieces, though otherwise, leaving Hikari relatively unscathed. She looked emotionless.
Holding her katana in one hand, she gazes down from her roost. "You aren't worthy of being a Lieutenant of the Gotei Thirteen. I refuse to believe it." She didn't say it with malice, nor any strong emotion in her voice. Insted, she said it as if she were stating some sort of blatant fact. A cool breeze blew through her hair at this vantage, and with it, she shifts her blade for a moment. letting its tip rest atop the cylindrical end of one of the pillars she stood upon.
He disappointed her expectations compared to the monster she faced. "The difference between your abilities and mine. Is as vast as the difference between Heaven and Earth. She seemed incredibly confident, and with it, she remembered Kaen. How he didn't even release when facing off against her. She felt so humiliated, crushed, and spiteful at her own weakness. It made her sick. It made her feel as if she were going mad with jealousy at that man. To be that strong.
Other than his impressive ability at casting the Danku, based on the display of the power of the Kido she just saw, and the fact she forced him to release and use the Danku immediately? She would estimate he was as strong as a seated officer, of course, but not that level of Lieutenant. She would have believed he got his rank due to the Seireitei's general desperation and need of seated officers since the invasion. Though. Perhaps that was simply Hikari's cold stoicism and cynicism working on him.
She rest atop her towered pillars, and with it, she whips her hand out, releasing several Byakurai. One after the other in slow succession, as they blast down towards him at fast speeds. Looking to force him to move as she studied his movements, his abilities, and his development. As well as to perhaps discover the power of his Zanpakutou. There was something peculiar. Though, perhaps through her hurtful words, she'd learn or see more about what lay in wait.

As expected the highly separated Concussion Blast did almost nothing, but Shawn wasn't disappointed at this. On the contrary, it showed she was definitely seated officer level considering that level of Reiatsu Strength could have blown nearly every unseated officer to pieces, let alone any solid technique they may have created. Not to mention when the four aimed at her reached there mark, she effortlessly created a circular shield that took the blows before shattering leaving the girl unharmed.
There was one major problem with how this went down though, she seemed to believe this was the best Shawn could do. For when she gazes down at him after the attack she speaks, "You aren't worthy of being a Lieutenant of the Gotei Thirteen. I refuse to believe it." Sure she didn't say it to antagonize him, but she spoke as if she fervently believed her own words. This was made absolutely clear when she spoke yet again, "The difference between your abilities and mine. Is as vast as the difference between Heaven and Earth."
She thinks I'm going all out right now, does she? It seems I must show her the strength I have earned. This thought raced through Shawn's mind, soon enough he would speak this thought out loud. "It seems I must show you why I'm in my position, apologies in advanced for any harm I may inflict." He wouldn't speak this as to brag, similar to her he spoke it only as fact. He fully believed he would be injuring her in the near future.
Lifting her hand up quickly, Angel would begin to fire off Byakurai after Byakurai. The thing is Shawn would Shunpo the second he noticed her arm moving upward. Thanks to his Shunpo he moved at a speed of 800, appearing so that his Zanpakuto was exactly 10 feet above the girls head. Holding his Zanpakuto out in a way where it was horizontal, its point exactly 2 feet out to his right. Sending reiatsu to his Kami no te it would begin forming a 3 foot wide, 3 foot thick puck exactly where the tip of his Zanpakuto was. Simultaneously he would mentally speak the command word Repel while focusing on the front of Angels body.
The girl wouldn't get the sensation she might have felt if she was farther than 10 feet away from his Kami no te. Instead Angel would immediately be shoved downward as if gravity was pushing down on the front of her body. Thus this would cause her to slam back down on the ground below. If that wasn't bad enough the puck would have began falling at the same time at a speed of 400. If Angel did nothing her legs would be crushed as the solid gravity puck landed where the legs of the girl would be after being shoved down.
Just in case this didn't stop her Shawn would Shunpo yet again to land just in back of her head. Once there he would simply aim his left hands fingers at the girl, mentally speaking the words Bakudo #4: Hainawa. When this was done a white rope would launch from his fingers smacking into the girl before instantly wrapping itself around her, entangling and immobilizing her. "I must suggest you keep from struggling, I don't want to harm you if I don't have to." He would say these words calmly but firmly, letting her know he has no problem in this stat of mind continuing this spar.
A rope fashioned from the caster's reishi is launched from their hand at the opponent. Upon impact, this then entangles the opponent and ties them up.
How to use technique:
This technique requires aiming with the hand, not unlike any basic Hado spell.
Incantation and Effect:
Incantation causes the robe to elongate and gag even more of the target's body when used, and also ups the Kido strength by 10%. (I.E. A reiatsu strength of 100 would be counted as 110 instead.) Incantation unknown.
{Yōku o fuyasu}Sending a large burst of reiatsu into the spot where Shawn points his Zanpakuto, gravity becomes visible taking on the shape of a 3 foot wide and 3 inch thick puck. This gravity puck will fall from the spot created at 400 speed and with the force of Shawn's OS (In Bankai Shawn may use his hands to use this technique). Activation cost: 200 reiatsu
Limits: If targeting an enemy it may only be created 10 feet above them, the creation process is instantaneous though.
He apologized. Implying he was holding back against her. In which case, her contempt for him might have been even greater for him than if he were simply incompetent. When she raised her hand to fire upon him? He used Shunpo. Though, she could tell he was going to. She's seen people far faster than him use such a technique, and from her skill in martial arts, she could see his legs tense before the movement. It was easy.
As his shadow appeared above her, even that, she could have predicted and saw coming. What she didn't expect was the weight pressing down upon her as that black puck formed instantaneously above her. The feeling of being repulsed. As if gravity itself was pressing down on her. In reality. She wasn't entirely off. The repulsion pressed down on her as he cast his power mentally. However. After the initial push? She could move.
As the gravity puck falls, he'd find that she utilized her own Shunpo. Though. How? Surely she wouldn't be able to without a solid surface? Advanced Airground was a powerful technique, and as she blurred out from sight, the gravity puck would continue to fall. Crushing and utterly destroying the Hyapporankan pillar she stood upon previously. Absolutely and utterly shattering it into thousands of pieces as the puck falls further, and further, crushing the earth below them with a magnitude of power, causing the pillars themselves to shift and topple, cracking apart.
Dust kicked, and it was impossible to see through the cloud of dust. In truth, Angel had landed along one of the sides of the pillars when she stepped, slipping into the dust before them as they took into consideration what they just learned. It was indeed safe to assume that the ideal course of action was to maintain her distance. Grasping a stone from the now cracked and disheveled ground, she hurls it way from herself as far as she could.
Clack! To give Shawn a false idea of her location. Perhaps baiting him into another attack. With the amount of energy he was exerting, casting attack after attack, he must have been getting tired. Soon. Angel would capitalize on that opportunity. For better or worse, she was biding her time, waiting for that wonderful moment.
