Current System: All players may run Adventures or Quests under the role of 'Dungeon Master', or DM. Dungeon Masters can not run Extreme Adventures or Quests and are limited in the number and type of NPCs that can be used. They are also limited in the amount of impact that these adventures and quests can have on the overall canon state of the site and how much they can impact the significant organizations on site. The only individuals who are not limited in the content and NPC type/number of their adventures or quests are full staff, who are referred to as 'Game Masters'. There are only two current 'staff' roles, Staff and Senior Graders.
Proposed Change: There is a third 'staff' role, which includes 'Game Masters', or GMs. These Game Masters are given staff privileges for the purpose of running less inhibited Adventures and Quests and are able to act as Canon-Level NPCs with the purpose of initiating and continuing story plot. These GMs are given larger-than-normal rewards with the expectation that they will regularly run Adventures or Quests that do not primarily involve their characters as the primary protagonist. Adventures and Quests do not always have to involve site canon and do not have a specific deadline for how fast they have to be run, but they need to be considered 'active' adventures or quests with posting timelines that can be enforced to ensure the continuity of the plots being run.
Rationale: I think that having more, lower staff ranks, that can utilize Faction NPCs and progress Site Canon or can create believable, interesting and engaging plotlines would be a significant step forwards for the site and would take quite a bit of pressure off of the primary staff team in order to allow them to focus on forum management instead of having to juggle multiple different facets that can be delegated. Game Masters would still need to run ideas through the staff team in the case that they have significant site canon involvement.
