Historical Record
Of those who might know Koko, they would understand her to be a reclusive girl of unknown origin. Scarcely ever seen to be engaging in variety of social interactions, all despite being given plenty of opportunities to do so. Indeed, it could be said that many know 'of' Yabe Koko, but next to nobody has been allowed to get close to her. This is further by design of her own, for reasons that not a soul could begin to fathom.
Acquiantances of hers date back as far as her earlier days within the Shinigami Academy, nobody knows much of her origins - aside from where she came from. Rukongai is the official place of her residence. Until then, she had been scouted by the Academy for having notable prowess in the spiritual arts. However, despite knowing this much, it is only what was given to be listed on paper. As far as what is her history in life, nobody knows.
'Enigma' is a word that her colleagues might use to describe her. Seen little within both the academy and outside of the classroom, and even less around Seireitei. What she does with her own time is unknown even to those who should know, and this is exactly the way that the woman wishes to keep it. In the ranks of the Gotei Thirteen, as long as you are considered talented enough, it could be said that who you were in life comes secondary.
This is to the advantage of Koko, who deigns to keep it as such. Despite being selective in the questions that she answers, one could never quite describe her as 'cold-hearted', and yet, of all of the acquiantances she has made in the academy, none would describe her of being relaxed or 'laid-back' - not warm or receptive to social interaction, either. Of the people who might name themselves her friends, she has always spoken just enough.
Personality Diagnostic
At a glance, Koko Yabe can be quite the frightening individual. To the vast majority of others, there is a certain sense of dread that pervades the ambience of any given room she is placed in, social interaction that she is part of, or otherwise quiet ceremony paid in respects to any celebration. This is because the aura she gives off is that of a quiet, reclusive, and incredibly stone-faced individual. Koko is not easily approachable.
In that sense, however, many are mistaken about her. They wanton will ever get to know or understand her true nature, because her outwardly abrasive and cold attitude often gets the better of most individuals. Koko likes to summarize most of what she means to convey in as few words as possible. To some, this comes across as disinterested or too blunt. Meanwhile, to others, she's often described as reliable and efficient. It's always in the eye of the beholder.
To that end Koko will be able to get along with most anyone who respects her space, as well as anyone who maintains that image of being an unapproachable entity of her within their minds. These people are for the most part, of the standard, and make up the majority of those that Koko has any sort of interaction with. It also means that the majority of people that interact with her seldom manage to breach past the acquaintance phase of a relationship with her.
To much a shame, because behind that icy exterior in fact a rather kind-hearted individual. One who is often misunderstood owing to her withdrawn nature. If only more people would take the time to spend time with her, to interact thoroughly with this individual and throw away their preconceived notions, they might actually realize thus; she is quite shy, and tends to steer clear of in-depth interaction as a result of her own insecurities, and not malice.
More people will like to judge a book by its cover than they'd wholeheartedly admit, Koko doesn't like that about others, and knows that the majority remain clear of her because of it. It only feeds into her negativity, knowing the assumptive nature of people as a whole, and makes her less inclined to return interactions with others as a result. There is often a loop in this regard, and once people start assuming things about her, she disregards them in general.
That is to speak little on those who act on those assumptions, often folk of the loud and obnoxious sort who give little room for her own self-conscious mind to find the right words to vocalize and explain. In the end, Koko had decided it would be better to let people assume, keep to herself, and be the exclusion from any given scenario where she has the potential to be misunderstood. They will think what they think, and she has made peace with that.
However, whilst this outlooks keeps her safe from being buried by her own intrusive thoughts, they do much to little in helping her form lasting bonds with people. Many times in her past has she made an effort, her very best effort, to push through that barrier of doubt. Yet, each and every time, she finds herself back in the same headspace again. That safety has never hurt her, though people most certainly have, and it's hard for her not to criticize herself over it.
All in all, Koko Yabe is an incredibly conflicted and quiet - though perfectly agreeable individual. Deep down she can be quite pleasant and understanding, though much of those comforting thoughts are confined to the contemplations in her own head. There is scarcely a soul who embodies the notion of an introvert more than this girl. Soft at heart, albeit with an icy and calm exterior; not only can she make for a reliable ally, but also an amazing friend. If only given the patience and kindness.
★ Likes
Peace & Quiet - It goes without saying that, first and foremost, Koko is an individual that prefers her peace and quiet. Much preferring to immerse herself in the serenity of a given tranquil scene than to seek out a chaotic or loud situation.
Warm Blankets - Self explanatory, blankets are soft; warm blankets are comfy. Comfort is cozy. That's all that there is to this really. That, and, this sensation is one that she scarcely got to revel in her past. Better to enjoy it now whilst it lasts, now she has it.
Yukata - Of the myriad of colorations to the unique and intricate patterns and the masterful craftwork that goes into the creation of these fancy Japanese-style dress, Koko can appreciate them. They're not only nice to look at, but she's easily entertained by pretty colors.
Light Novels - Nothing beats some peace and quiet more than being able to immerse oneself within a different time, a fascinating mystery, or other world. Truly, what greater company is there to serenity than a little bit of light reading; to be at ease.
Handicraft - This is a hobby that Koko frequently indulges herself in her spare time, from all sorts of unique things; plushies, accessories such as bracelets, even the clothes off back. Quite literally, the signature red mantle worn by her is something she made herself.
Kind People - Not only are they much easier to engage in conversation with, but there is a certain sort of validation in having received a nice compliment that will often uplift her overcast spirit for the rest of that day. It feels good to be appreciated by others.
Festivals - In contrast to her want of peaceful places to be, festivals might seem at odds with her interests. However, allowing herself to blend into the atmosphere of a fireworks show, feel the energy from a music festival; these make Koko happy.
Scritches & Headpats - Whilst inherently averse to allowing others to grow close to her, the act of receiving this particular kind of affection will take someone far in placing them in her good graces. Reluctant though she may be, the truth is... she 'doesn't hate it'.
★ Dislikes
Rushing Orders - Whether it be a serious situation or not, the idea of being rushed around in life doesn't sit well with Koko. If anything, she'd much rather take her time in a task and be satisfied than having felt like a poor job was done of it. As long as the result comes around eventually, does it matter?
Being Talked Over - Koko is a naturally soft-spoken individual, in particular owing to her various flaws, and as such is easily triumphed in a contest of vocalizing ones thoughts. Especially in a military organization, this happens frequently, and it gets on her nerves.
Condescension - Being patronized is not an action that sits well with the girl, if anything enough to earn an individual a pout and sigh if done harmlessly. If done maliciously, however? Definitely enough to earn animosity from her, that's for certain.
Taking the Lead - It's troublesome to have to raise ones voice, especially when most would consider your outdoor voice and indoor one. So, naturally, having to strike a commandeering pose and bark out orders is incredibly exhausting for the half-beast girl.
Perverse Behaviours - Uncomfortable around others is the state of normal for Koko, it's without question that would be doubly so around those with lecherous intentions. Being of keen senses, knowing when others prurient gaze is upon her is too obvious. It brings her discomfort to be around these type of people.
Hot Weather - Absolutely not, there's few things worse than being unable to relax in the comfort of ones own skin. As a warm blooded half-beast, the summers in certain places can be especially brutal on her. The climate is not suited for Koko, cold weather is much better for sure.
Showing Skin - In regard to her distaste in hot weather, conspicuously Koko can be found exhibiting shy behaviours; and this often results in wearing layers of thick attire in an attempt to make herself feel more at ease in public. In the sweltering heat, this can cause issue for her, but she does it anyway.
Vegetables - Bad crunch, very bad! "Tastes like water, is bland like... paper." How, exactly, Koko knows what paper tastes like or whether or not it's comparable to the vegetables put on her plate is a matter of deference. One thing is certain though, she is a half-beast, furthermore, one of canine descent - the things don't taste good.
Habits, Flaws and Fears
Talking Herself Down - One could say that, those who often spend tantamount too much time within their own heads are left to the mercy of their own intrusive thoughts, and this can be much the case for Koko. Lifting herself up on her own is not a thing the girl is adept at doing. Such a result of this is often leading to a cycle, where the own subconscious doubts in her head persuades her to downplay just how capable she actually is.
Sleeping in the Summer - Much as expected from someone who does not appreciate or take kindly to the uncomfortably hot weather of these months, her foremost way of coping with such is quite simple; find a nice shaded place to rest, preferably someplace crisp with cold and dark, and then... fall asleep. It's an incredibly instinctual thing for the girl, and she cannot quite explain it herself, but the need to do so is intrusive, yet comforting.
Eating in the Winter - Koko is not a tremendously avid eater. As a matter of fact, when it comes to her diet, it is neither balanced or plentiful. However, something about that changes in the winter months. A primary compulsion takes over her person to consume as much as she can whilst she still can at this time. It would appear to be a habitual thing, yet, not instinctual. This practice to eat three times as much is a learned behaviour.
Murmurs to Herself - As an individual who does most of her interaction in thinking rather than speech, Koko is still a rather spoken person. Only without actually putting the direction of her words toward any distinct character. It's a matter of fact that whether it be her wanting to articulate her thoughts, but not in a way that garners attention, or simply talking her thoughts aloud, the fact of the matter is; she mumbles a lot.
Isolates from Others - It's draining to be in a social situation for too long, and this is taken to quite the extreme for Koko. If given a choice, or avenue of escape, it is not uncommon to find that when she had once been in the presence of a group, only for her to have disappeared into thin air within the next moment. Often to find someplace quieter, without the worries of having any gaze upon herself. A place to relax and to alleviate stress.
Anxiety Disorder - Often characterized by feelings of doubt or panic in an individual, Koko unfortunately suffers from a rather severe case of this around people. It might perhaps be intrinsically linked to her past, a time before the academy. That root cause is somewhat of a mystery even to the girl herself. At a glance, nobody would truly know under that calm demeanour of hers just how full of worry she actually is, because she doesn't show it.
Gloomy Attitude - To say that being around Koko is a little bit like having a lingering malicious spirit in the room could be considered an accurate, albeit, assumptive statement. In attempt to hide away the lack of self-esteem, she has created an image and demeanour of herself being an incredibly dangerous individual. Koko does not have a warm or inviting resting face, is used to putting herself down, and as a result emits an overall negative, and perhaps intimidating presence to some.
Habitually Lonely - Despite of her want to not be around other people, it is also a curse in that it unfortunately weighs down upon her. Everyone becomes acquainted with the deep feeling of loneliness once in awhile. Why might this be any different of Koko? It is only through distraction can she forget just how alone her own behaviours can direct her to feel. Yet still, it is the only way she knows how to feel true comfort; so, being alone is something she only tolerates.
Reluctant to Accept Help - This applies to most tasks that can be acted upon by herself, even the ones that become unnecessarily difficult as a result. The simple fact of the matter is that Koko just doesn't want to bother or impose upon another person unless it is absolutely required, and even then, she struggles to come forth and admit that assistance is needed. It is the combined result of a misled sort of pride, as well as her reclusive nature.
Exerting Her Presence - It is a combination of many things that go into one simple fact; Koko is terrible at making herself or her own wants known. It is an odd mixture of shyness, her own mumbling and mellow voice, brewed together with a lack of self-importance. This concoction of withdrawn traits mean that, even when she is attempting to reach another or command authority, she is often made the mouse out of other louder and less respectful individuals.
Contact Averse - Manifesting as a result of her other traits, Koko absolutely cannot endure excessive physical contact. Glares, trembling, and a rather growl-like stare are the result from unsolicited touches. If we follow this same thought, even consensual contact is something that she struggles to maintain a composure over. If the scars over the plain skin of her body were able to tell a story, perhaps that'd be enough to understand the why.
Over-Reacting - Koko always strives to maintain her composure. So naturally, it is an outright fear of hers to react in a situation greater than measured; to draw avoidable attention to herself. This can be true of a wide array of emotions for herself. Even happiness if overdone can be criticized in the eyes of a few, and unfortunately, that worry is all that Koko needs to shut herself behind a stone-faced gaze. Rarely showing more than the absolute minimum.
Losing Relationships - As an individual that could quite simply be described as a hermit, Koko struggles to both form and maintain bonds with other people. A substantial fear that she has is growing close to others, only for them to naturally drift apart as a result of being unable to express herself properly. So when this thought enters her mind, it further makes it difficult for her to form bonds to begin with - a truly vicious cycle.
Captain the Onmitsukidō - It is a great aspiration of hers to one day be promoted to Captain rank of this specific squad in the Seireitei. It is not to command authority, rather simply to garner the respect of others in a way such that her reclusive nature will be complied with. As the leader of a squad that operates predominantly from the shadows, she believes it is truly the best position for her to be in. Hopeful that she will be amongst like-minded individuals.
Eat the Meat - Eat it, all of it. Delicious juicy Korean BBQ, slow-roasted pork rib, fried poultry. Koko absolutely adores meat dishes of all sorts of variety. A certified carnivore if you will. So naturally, nothing is going to stop her from indulging in her favourite food! This is less so a massive undertaking of hers, and more so a state of being for her. As long as there is meat to eat, life is good. Tender is better, when shared feels the most cheerful.
Protect Precious Friends - Not many are willing to take a chance on a mystery individual such as Koko, this is something that she has learned to accept. So, for those odd individuals who for some reason reached out... Koko has nothing but adoration for them. To be understood beyond a surface level is a precious thing to her, and neither something that will be taken for granted. Koko will make sure of this. They mean a lot; more than she can describe.

Birthplace, Current Residence and Memorable Figures
When Koko Yabe died and entered the afterlife, she left her past behind. In doing so, she also left behind any memorable figures she might have had. Even her given name is one made up by herself, it had been so long since her death that she had forgotten the relevance of her past name to begin with. However, she will never forget the emotions behind making that decision. Koko Yabe, as the Gotei Thirteen might know her, was born in the Rukongai, stricken with the hunger of those who maintain spiritual power, trembling, and convulsing within a ragged and torn blanket.

Inner Hollow Personality
In testament to her namesake, the Odayakanaumi is an enigmatic entity who resides within the oceans and rivers of Koko's Inner World. Much taking after the translation of her name, 'Calm Sea' Odayakanaumi, is a rather placid fragment of Koko's soul; always resting on her face a tranquil smile, one that resembles a motherly tenderness, and yet hiding beneath a certain sort of malice that isn't apparent to those without the ability to sense it.
In truth, and much like in respects to the true nature of the open sea, the Odayakanumi is an incredibly mercurial being, often fickle in her wants and goals. This much can be apparent after enough interaction with her, if given the chance to, and with the patience to understand her true nature behind an otherwise beautiful complexion. The Odayakanaumi is a mute representation of the ocean, and communicates in gestures rather than words.
Overall, one has to always be on guard around this fragment of Koko; because inherently, it has often been proven that its wants are Hollow-like in nature, that is to say fundamentally malicious on an instinctual level. As though a sailor is oft wise to be cautious of the sea, so would an individual be when interacting with this Inner Hollow. Still, this has not always remained the case, and this capricious nature is exactly what makes the spirit so ambiguous and eerie to many.
Vizard Mask
Kana's mask predominantly takes the form of an oval shape, with parallel running lines depicting clear-blue streams running down its full length, threaded through the tomoe-shaped eye cavities, in a wavy river pattern. At the end of its journey and across the jawline, these two streams branch off into an array of ocean wave motif, underneath the first layer and as though characterizing a cascading, multi-layered waterfall.

Underneath the revered moonlight, an epic hunt takes place to decide their fate; who is the hunter, and who is the hunted. Mangetsu no Shita de no Dai Kari, "Great Hunt Under the Full Moon", is the true name of Kurai Mori. Upon enunciating this release phrase, two peoples worlds are subsumed in darkness without brief access to their senses, and within the blink of an eye, awaken within the Dark Forest. Her inner world, and the scene for this chase.
Upon arrival in this place, the moon is not yet complete; it begins as a crescent moon, and over the course of four posts, will illuminate in turn to full. During this time, basked in the blurred and dim landscape, a apparition effect will take ahold of both parties. Trees within the canopy swerve and wave, the wind howls and rustles through the leaves, and the creek ripples intensely. These audio and visual phenomena confuse the senses, and hinder them.
As though taken into the scene of a painting, and unaccustomed to this environment, the Senses and Energy Sensory of anyone in this Dark Forest are reduced by 50%. They might sight fleeting shadows, and other such general distractions pervading their perceptions. Nothing harmful, though the entire Dark Forest gives off an incredibly eerie sensation, as though being watched from every corner, brush and beneath the water of the rippling river.
There are numerous other effects that take place during these four posts, first and foremost, the Hunter gains a boost to their Speed of 400 points; or up to three times their base Speed, whichever is lowest. Over the course of these posts, and once per post, this bonus will gradually decrease in favour of Koko (the Hunted) by 200 points. In other words, each post that passes the Hunter will lose 200 base Speed (after Type) and the Hunted will gain that amount.
This is capable of reducing the Hunter's statistic bonus over time, and flipping it into a statistical penalty the longer that they remain on the Hunt for Koko. If the full four posts are spent in the Dark Forest, they will in the end have their Speed reduced by up to 400 points; or up to 75% of their base stat, whichever is applicable. There is a silver lining in this, however, in that at any point during this Bankai, the Hunter may choose to give up the chase.
If this is done, the Hunter may leave the Dark Forest unabated; they lose any statistical benefit or penalties they may have accrued. However, this comes at a cost. As the environmental climate inside of the Dark Forest lingers, ones Senses and Energy Sensory are returned to full capacity in the blink of an eye. This causes a hyper-photosensitivity to stimulus in the Hunter once they return to the waking world, and are considered stunned for one post as a result.
If they do not chose to leave, they remain within the Dark Forest and must play its game. That is to locate and land a physical strike against Koko, and this must be done before the moon reaches its full splendor. If they are successful, they are allowed to leave the Dark Forest without penalty. If they fail, four posts elapse, and the moon is allowed to reach the pinnacle of its illustrous glow; the next phase of the Bankai begins and the scene changes.
Illuminated by the eerie glow of moonlight, the key features of the Dark Forest will begin to fade; as though they were illusionary to begin with, like phantasmal creations depicted in a painting erased clean. This leaves the Dark Forest featureless, without trees, brush or foliage to cover the area. It turns into an endless expanse of dark grassland, only the soft thrum of the creek remains, the entire scene now dominated by the full moon and blank night sky.
This is known as the "Moonlight in Severence" phase of Great Hunt Under the Full Moon. In this phase, which remains until the duration of the Bankai expires, there are no new special rules or effects that take place. It is simply an endless stage for the next phase of the Hunt. Roles reversed, the Hunter (or opponent) becomes the Hunted, and vice versa. Except, in this scenario, there is no game or tag. It is kill or be killed, for both parties.
Koko, as the Hunter, retains the Speed boost that was accrued from the prior four posts of the Bankai. Naturally, the Hunted also retains the Speed penalty they have acquired. At this stage, the Hunted is no longer able to willingly choose to leave the Moonlight in Severence, they must remain, and attempt to either fight or flee. As that may be, there is nowhere to run to, as the vastness of the area within the Bankai is truly limitless; hiding is nigh impossible, they are not only disadvantaged, but also unable to escape.
There are few further stipulations to this Bankai as a whole, described here. To begin with, during the first four posts of this release and in the "Dark Forest" phase, Koko is able to mask her reiatsu, as though she weren't in a released state. Great Hunt Under the Full Moon is not an illusion, it is rather a phantasmal reality. On the outside of the Dark Forest it is essentially a shadow dome, one that is far larger on the inside than it is the outside.
Attempting to enter this dome is impossible, likewise interacting with anything inside of the dome from the outside isn't something able to be done. Techniques, attacks spiritual and otherwise, and also creatures will pass through it and onto its opposing side. It functions like a gap in reality, or could otherwise be considered a distortion in space. In order to activate this Bankai and catch someone inside of it, they must first be caught within a radius effect.
This is, in summary, an expanding dome of twilight that reaches out as far as a 2,500ft radius around Koko. It targets only a singular person or creature, and if they are caught within its radius, they are pulled into the Dark Forest along with Koko. After it expands, the dome contracts into a much tinier 10ft wide sphere within moments. The environment within the Dark Forest is treated as though it has release weapon durability.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anxiety Disorder - Often characterized by feelings of doubt or panic in an individual, Koko unfortunately suffers from a rather severe case of this around people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contact Averse - Manifesting as a result of her other traits, Koko absolutely cannot endure excessive physical contact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain the Onmitsukidō - It is a great aspiration of hers to one day be promoted to Captain rank of this specific squad in the Seireitei.

Bankai Overall
