Eiko hurried along behind another shinigami, Kai. He was tall, incredibly short hair, and well built, an annoyed look on his face on having Eiko as a partner for this mission. Ever since graduating and joining the corp, Eiko has mainly been delegated to menial labor and side jobs, it was rare for him to get more than basic patrols in the safest regions, so Kai probably felt he was babysitting in a less safe region. Eiko and Kai never really got along either way. Kai always viewed Eiko with contempt since Eiko was such a burden on jobs. Especially one that might involve a hollow or criminals.
When they finally got to the boonies Rukongai village they were there to investigate the place was deserted and a rancid smell lingered in the air. A few of the wooden homes were particularly damaged, as if a large bear had broken right through the wall, or sometimes the ceiling but there were mangled and desecrated corpses that could be found inside homes, with more littering the streets "Alright, let's split up to cover more ground," Kai ordered as the superior officer.
"That seems like a stupid idea considering we don't know what did this," Eiko retorted before Kai started to scowl.
"What was that!?" Kai raised his voice angrily at how Eiko had seemingly defied him. "Are you defying a superiors orders!?" Eiko just started back at him with his cold menacing blue eyes before closing them and letting out a sigh. "Not in the least, just make sure you don't get yourself killed. So should I head this way?" Eiko replied pointing to the west side of the village, even if it was a bad idea Eiko couldn't wait to get some distance from Kai. Kai just gritted his teeth before jolting around and heading the other direction. "That's fine! Now go!" Kai shouted out violently before heading off eastwards, probably more eager to get away from this difficult to deal with weakling punk than argue any further. Eiko just let out another sigh before heading into the western part of the village calmly.
Eiko checked every nook and cranny of the west side, taking his time while doing so and taking notes of the damages to the structures. The sheer size of the damage was concerning, and the rancid smell felt like more than just rotting corpses, it was too early for the corpses to be decaying that badly. Ultimately though, I find nothing beyond some notes to take and decide to head back towards Kai to report to my incompetent superior.
