Taka lifted a brow in response to the part about Luke. And she .... she paused, gkancing down at her waterbottle. She thought about the last time that she’d seen him, amd her shoulders hunched just a little. Thinking about that boxing match they’d gone to see. Her so full of hope. ”Yea.... he sure doesn’t.” she murmured softly, taking another drink and wiping her mouth. ”Vampire as he is. He’s still a human. And humans are all about appearances. Clothes. Looks. Reputations. He’s so damn caught up in not being seen as a monster. All caught up on the outside. Like all of them. Which is exactly where all my skepticism comes from, Mrs. Yoko.” she set the bottle down.
She didn’t seem over the moon about the compliment. She was glad for it, but her head was in the shade of her thoughts for the time being. The shadow of unpleasant memories. But Yoko would see why Taka enjoyed her little jokes so much. Even with that far off stare, when Yoko brought up the daddy thing... she did crack a smile a little, and even chuckled. The clouds shifted and she brightened back up. She could never ignore a good joke. ”My apologies madmoiselle. I’ll stick with Mrs.Kusanagi for the time being.” she noted and didn’t wink back. Instead she looked down on the floor. Thats right. Mrs Kusanagi was a human too after all.
Ah, to the meat of the conversation. That said, she was a bit surprised. ”You surprise me. Plenty of people ask How. But the why? That’s a lot less common. Now that’s actually a fairly personal answer you’re lookibg for. But it’s not some huge secret.” she made her way around the desk, bending down and flicking a combination to a safe, and then pulling something out and setting it right on the desk. It was... a doll. A big one, a few feet tall. But a toy nonetheless.
”I imagine it’s possible that you maybhave guessed. But I’m not human. Much less than just about any race. Even hollows were once human. But not me. This is my first body. I was a tot. For a kid. An unpopular one at that. And that unpopularity leaned him into some bad crowds. He was obsessed with the notion that crime would make him cool. But he oicked the wrong kind. Almost got wound up in some gangbangers. Rather than see the kid I more or less raised for six years die in some gutter, I started this. I got myself a crew. Being invisible makes it real damn easy to earn respect. People think youre some kinda ninja.” she looked to the doll and patted its head.
”So instead of stabbing some poor sop. My boy raced cars for his street cred. He wasn’t a bad driver. Turned out he wasn’t vanilla human either. But..... that nonvanilla.... was the trouble in the end.” she collected a framed picture from her desk and stared at it. ”He was... proud of what he was. And some stupid girl wigged out. Some HUMAN that didn’t understand. And he got a stab wound to the beck. And my boy wound up in a gutter anyway.” she closed her eyes and set the picture aside.
”I didn’t like the idea of it. That doin what he loved, jist tryin to live his life, it was like hed become a monster. So I decided to make a place. A place for people like him. To be themselves without having to be scared.” she glanced back up at Yoko. ”So I hope that I’m getting across just how important thisn place is to me, Mrs.Kusanagi” she folded her legs and waited. Of course at the other question she simply raised a brow. Well that was an interesting notion. Huh. War.
”I’m no general. For something like that, those that didn’t run off to join the fray, I wold focus on hunkering down. I don’t exactly have an armagheddon plan I admit. It depends on how everyone feels. I’m not a dictator. And as for threats? Luke’s the strongest guy I know. Timor... she might be trouble. She always gets herself into scraps. But aside from her, we all jist mostly try to enjoy ourselves. We have a race track, a fighting ring, a red light district, and the club. Most violent urges people have, they work out some kinda outlet around here. One way or another.” she shrugged.
