Ranth sighed inwardly with relief as the cards were played and this time, the results fell in his favour. He didn't know what had come over him earlier to make him abandon his ordinarily cautious nature, but the moment he'd won and claimed his prize, his senses had returned to him and he was horrified at his own lapse in judgement. It was so uncharacteristic in fact, that he couldn't help but wonder if he'd stumbled across another of this world's hidden peculiarities without knowing.
With his previous losses now recouped, Ranth had every intention of calling it quits right there and then. He'd been lucky to win that second hand and he knew that statistically the odds were against him and if he had another... episode... in which he threw caution to the wind, then he wouldn't be able to rely on card counting either. In other words, so long as the game was blackjack then his most logical course of action was to excuse himself and head back to Jacques house.
It was at that moment that two men sat down on either side of him and for a moment, he was sure that it was the two from the mess hall the day before. Thankfully, this quickly proved to not be the case as neither man seized him and upon closer inspection, he didn't recognsie either of them. They did however look similar to each-other and he was about to excuse himself when the magic word was spoken. Poker.
"Texas Holdem?" Ranth asked as he shifted his weight so that he was leaning towards the counter once more. Contrary to popular belief, not all card games came down to luck and Poker- especially Texas Holdem- was just such a game. It wasn't so much about playing the cards in your hand, but rather the people at the table with you. "If so, count me in", he said and the ghost of a smile flickered across his face- causing the new arrivals to question if they'd actually seen such an expression on Ranth's otherwise guileless face, or it'd been a mere trick of the light.
