Snowflakes fell gently from the grey skies above, riding on the cold winds it descended upon Karakura in a most peaceful manner and painted the city with a layer of white. The sky had just begun to darken as it had become early evening and the lampposts lent their yellow tinted light to the streets but stores remained open for a while longer as the streets crowded with activity. Christmas had already passed but Christmas spirit was very much still in the air and on people's minds as the almost still winds and slowly darkening skies lent the town an atmospheric setting to the fall of the snow. Most cafes were fully seated with people enjoying a final cup of coffee or cocoa to warm their bodies before they intended to head back home.
Among it all even an Adjuchas like Valentin had been caught up by the winter atmosphere as he had been observing the people and snowfall both. Unlike most of his kind he didn't fancy the consumption of humans all that much although it couldn't be denied that in his earlier years when he was nothing but a savage beast he had killed hundreds of innocents. Now however as one of the most sentient Adjuchas around he found himself unable to stomach such wanton slaughter of humans, a shameful memory seated in his mind which disciplined him to hunt his own kind instead. Still, he did allow himself the consumption of various spiritual entities in plenty, it was only fair since most of them were always trying to kill him for what he was rather than what he did.
But on this particular evening the chase wasn't even in his mind, he was enjoying one of his hobbies far too much to concern himself with the dull activity of searching for food to fill that ever present hunger that tore at him. Instead the hollow who fortunately was human sized stood by the sidewalk and peered in through the window of one of the shops, this particular building being a bookstore which housed a book the hollow had taken an interest in. He still had the attention to move out of the way when humans walked past as he didn't want to bother with them growing confused over the invisible object in their way, still, the snow where he stood looked a bit funny with all the times the Adjuchas was forced to walk back and forth making footsteps avoiding people.
Inside the window stood on display a book concerning Australia's involvement in world war one, it was rare to find material on the war from their perspective so he had grown rather interested. In fact as soon as the number of people died down he intended to phase right through the building and steal himself a copy of it. While it was true he could have just smashed the window and grabbed the book, having it float around in the eyes of humans Valentin didn't fancy catching so much attention, especially in Karakura of all places. He knew very well how dangerous this place could be if you got found out by something strong, the place literally crawling with spiritual entities.
And so the Adjuchas stood and waited, his tail idly shifting back and forth patiently as snow fell on his already white carapace which likened his shape to a knight although the oni faced mask brought any such illusion with it's grim visage and sharp fangs. Now and then he shook the snow off from his body as not to become a strange resting place for it to fall and be another way of confusing people. He knew he was exposed where he was to be seen by others of spiritual nature but he also knew most were far too reluctant to fight when there were so many people around, in a way they were a safety measure to protect himself even if he didn't like to call them that.
