So I've been bored and mulling over ideas for things to do with cutback that don't actually have it forcing cutback checks and recently I had the idea for a more defensive style cutback. To my understanding, cutback will damage an opponent that strikes you, but all of the force of the attack will still be transferred to you meaning you can still take a fair amount of damage. I thought of an idea where instead of havethe cutback damage the attacker, instead it coats the user in a protective barrier that will allow it to absorb the force from attacks in exchange for shredding the attackers arms to ribbons. Basically you trade off the offensive end of cutback for increased defense (scaling based on the difference in stats) below is a rough outline of the tech (still fairly WIP). Overall how useful do you guys think this tech would be?
Technique Description and Affects: Cutback is a rather interesting concept when it comes to defense, it is the best and worst kind, it discourages and harms attackers, but at the same time leaves the user vulnerable to damage due to it highly limited ability to absorb impact forces. This technique takes cutback and turns it into a literal cushion against attackers. The user of this technique consciously forces the reiatsu expelled from their body to remain in close proximity to them forming a protective layer of reiatsu around the user that helps absorb the damage from attacks in exchange of a loss of the standard cutback check.
When someone physically attacks a user of this technique their weapon will first be met with the reiatsu coating their skin, which begins to absorb and distribute the force over a larger area reducing the effect of the strike. Like with a normal cutback check, the amount of force absorbed in dependant on the difference between the user's spiritual pressure and the offensive stat being used for the attack. At a difference of 50 about 5% of the damage is absorbed, 150 brings this up to 10%, 250 is 15%, and 400 is 25%, anything greater than 400 yields a 35% reduction.
