Section 10: NPCs and You
In this forum, we are the main characters. We write the stories, guide the events, and influence the site as a whole no matter how small the contribution. There are also those who work in the background who back up and support other characters. We have all seen NPCs in very passive and inactive roles, aside from those controlled by DMs. But some of you may wish to make NPCs who take a place in the spotlight. Some of you may want to stop fighting alone and start working cooperatively with other allies of your own creation. We can show you how.
You must start by creating your NPC. It's relatively simple and only involves two steps. The first is the NPC application, and the other is a Ryo payment. The "NPC Template" can be used to make your application. Once it is filled out, you must pay for the character. The cost varies depending on Class and Rank. A Class 8-5 NPC costs 5,000 Ryo to create. Class 4-3 costs 10,000 Ryo. Class 2 costs 15,000 Ryo, and Class 1 costs 30,000 Ryo. A Rank 1 NPC has no additional cost, but Rank 2 adds 2,500 Ryo, Rank 3 adds 7,500 Ryo, and Rank 4 adds 15,000 Ryo.
Advancement for an NPC is also handled through Ryo payments and solid proof that they deserve to advance. Costs necessary to increase Class vary and must be paid for every individual Class advancement. Class 8-5 costs 2,000 per Class-up. Class 5-3 costs 4,000 Ryo per Class-up. Class 3-2 costs 5,000 Ryo per Class-up, and Class 2-1 costs 10,000 Ryo per Class-up. Each individual Class upgrade must have an explanation and a thread linked to the upgrade. Even if you pay to upgrade multiple Classes at once, justification must be given in the form of a long-term thread that has shown large character development. Multiple threads that have done similar also count. Advancing in Rank also costs Ryo. Rank 1 to 2 costs 10,000. Rank 2 to 3 costs 30,000. Rank 3 to 4 costs 50,000.
There are restrictions, though. An NPC must be at least Class 4 to earn Rank 2, Class 2 to earn Rank 3, and Class 1 to earn Rank 4. For example, an NPC cannot be a Class 8 with Rank 4. An NPC can also never be a higher Rank or Class than the RPC that they are associated with. So if your RPC is Class 3, Rank 2, then your NPC can never go above either Class 3 or Rank 2. NPCs can never fill positions that an RPC can, meaning they cannot claim Fifth Seat or higher for Shinigami. Instead, they may have their own custom position and Ranks based on their personal plot and relation to the RPC they associate with. These positions will be reviewed during NPC grading.
When advancing an NPC, their SP is limited by their current Class. They may not possess a total SP value that is greater than their total training SP cap or 400 per Class, so Class 8 would have 400, Class 7 would have 800, and so on. This applies to whichever value is lower. For example, a Class 6 Shinigami can cap at 1200 SP according to the limits, but they actually cap at 1000 SP due to training SP caps. The exception to this rule is Beast-Clansmen NPCs since they have a limit of 200 training SP gained per Class in addition to their normal leveling SP.
NPCs can learn their Release abilities much like a normal RPC can. This comes with a catch for "restricted" Releases like Bankai and Quinta Etapa. Those are only available to an RPC who is at least Class 1 and Rank 3, and must be earned in a thread the way an advancement in Class is earned. However, these can be learned at NPC creation in exchange for a doubled final price. Otherwise, NPCs are free to learn any technique that they are allowed to based on their race and Class, including custom techniques that may be reviewed by staff. All NPCs start with the "free" racial step technique the way RPCs do, but only if they qualify to use it. A Human NPC must be Class 5 to learn Bringer Light, for example. Once they meet the qualifications, they automatically gain it even if they didn't have it before. Other techniques must be learned through the use of Ryo. Class 8 techniques don't cost anything, but each Class above that increases the cost by 1,000 Ryo. For example, Class 7 would be 1,000 Ryo, Class 6 would be 2,000 Ryo, and so on. NPCs are limited to fifteen technique slots and must use Amnesia Pills like normal RPCs to un-learn and learn new techniques.
All NPCs, regardless of Rank of Class, start with 10 SkP. To gain additional SkP, Ryo must be paid. For each SkP, the cost goes up. One additional point costs 5,000 Ryo, two additional points cost 10,000 Ryo, three costs 15,000 Ryo, four costs 20,000 Ryo, give costs 25,000 Ryo, six costs 30,000 Ryo, seven costs 35,000 Ryo, and the eighth costs 40,000 Ryo. NPCs cap at 18 SkP total and cannot go above that.
A single RPC may only have two NPCs per Rank. Additionally, short of the Vizard Leader, no RPCs can have an NPC that follows the Path of Hollowfication. NPCs are also restricted from any Final Releases.NPC Advancement TemplateNPC Name: (What is your NPC’s name?)

NPCs can join any type of thread. They can be used to train with their RPC and others, show up for Social Threads, join Adventures alongside their RPC, or even participate in PvP Threads with permission from the other RPCs. These do have various rules and restrictions, though.
Using an NPC in certain threads has a Ryo cost assigned to it. For Social Threads or Training Threads, there is no cost attached. For Adventure, Quest, or Battle Threads, Ryo must be spent. Adventures and Quests have costs based on the Class and Rank of the NPC being included. At Class 8-5, the NPC costs 5,000 Ryo per thread. Class 4-3 NPCs cost 15,000 Ryo. Class 2 NPCs cost 20,000 Ryo, and Class 1 NPCs cost 45,000 Ryo. A Rank 2 NPC increases the cost by 2,500 Ryo, Rank 3 increases it by 7,500 Ryo, and Rank 4 increases it by 15,000 Ryo. For a PvP or other Battle Threads, permission from the other participants is always required. If they are permitted, the costs follow the ones used for Adventures and Quests, but they're halved.
If a thread is labeled as DP or DE, an NPC can be killed and all progress with them will be lost. There is no refund on the Ryo. They are still subjected to normal rules of fairness in threads and are treated with the same sportsmanship given to RPCs. The only exception comes from staff-sponsored site threads likes events and Canon Threads. Both are always considered to be DP or higher for NPCs and can lead to their deaths. Please be wary of adding NPCs to threads.
When in a Training Thread, if you train with your NPC, they can also earn Ryo alongside their normal rewards. For every two paragraphs completed, an NPC may earn 50 Ryo. This does not convert to 25 Ryo per paragraph. It would be smart to post an even number of paragraphs. This applies to Joint Training Threads, as well. For every two paragraphs the participants write in total, all of them (including NPCs) earn 50 Ryo.
