Plotline: [Remember Canon 11? I hope so. In that thread, a noble party came under attack. Sozen Kuchiki ended up in battle with B, The Boss, Baal, who is the strongest Stern Ritter. Lieutenants of Squads 1 and 9 were also engaged by Quincy, as was a seated officer of another squad. Squad 9 Captain Raion Souretsu was incapacitated, and numerous other high ranking Soul Reapers were engaged in combat. But, ultimately, the attack there was fought off, and achieved no real results. So then, what was the point of it? It was a distraction.
Other side of Soul Society, Canon 14 begins. Three Vandenreich operatives enter into the Seireitei in stealth, separate from any other invading legions or units, and masking their reiatsu. They emerge from the shadows of Seireitei, which lead to their Ice Palace and home. They have come for two reasons. The first is to sneak over to Sokkyokku Hill unnoticed, and steal the mighty Sokkyokku. A very difficult task indeed. The second, and only if possible, is to steal into the Kawada Manor, and steal the Black Bead necklace in Kenryoku Kawada's private chambers. A difficult mission, but nothing for a mighty force such as the Vandenreich...]

Knowledge may be power, but sight is the origin of knowledge, and I see everything. I am omnipotent, and nothing happens in this world which can escape my gaze.
[smear:FF0000]"We Believe in holy servitude, under the watchful eye of Der Kaiser we will rise above the call of his magesty. And spread his words to those that have not been enlightened to his holy words. We believe in one God, the true being whose sheer perfection has given us a life to live again, his message has changed the lives of millions and continues to do so until the end of days. When he has descended from his holy throne and had began the transformation of this flawed world into a world of his image. We believe in the day when the world will be bathed in a fire of holy light. The cleansing of our sins, and the bringing into a world of perfection. We believe in the world to come, when we are free from the imperfection of life. And reborn into the holy world of Der Kaiser. Long Live Der Kaiser, his word is our orders. His breath is our life, his will is our life."[/smear:00FF00] the voices bounced off the Holy Cathedral, as rows of hundreds sat before a towering spire, which stood on the spire a single throne composed of ice, and on that throne sat a towering male. Draped in a white cloth covering his general body frame. And on his face was a mask that smiled, yet underneath it the man's actual mouth was placid and calm. This was an apostle of Der Kaiser, a Shepherd to those that were lost, guiding the true sheep of God towards the One True Master, Der Kaiser.
The man that sat upon the throne of ice, who could bring hundreds if not thousands to a chant of belief was none other than Caesar, C, The Cardinal. With a simple wave of his hands hundreds fell onto their knees in front of the rows of benches, before the grand spire, that rose over 30 ft feet and bowed their heads. As they knew this was tradition, this was tradition when housed with a Lord of the Vandenreich. And the man rose, he rose and gazed at the people kneeling before him and raised both of his hands. Preparing to speak the word of Der Kaiser. To spread a message to the mass as he did before "Children of Der Kaiser. Children of our God. It is time again to spread fear into the hearts of the False Shepherds. We have been called upon to steal their sacred Sokkyokku. While not everyone will be able to take part in the actual stealing, they will take part in the distraction of the False Shepherds. But do not fear. For we are being watched by our gracious master." Caesar spoke, but did not shout. Yet it could be heard by every one, the man continued to speak "As said in 'Die Ära des Wissens' chapter 2 verse 2 'Their devotion could only increase, and as Der Kaiser began to send his spirit across the world, they embraced it. The Faithful could pass through Fire and Storm unharmed with His Majesty supporting them with his very essence.' Do you know what this means?" he took a moment before replying to his own question.
"It means that if our faith in Der Kaiser is unwavering and true. We will be able to accomplish this for Our God-King!" then ever slowly he lowered his arms and spoke again "We pray. Speak the confession of Faith while you thank Der Kaiser for everyday, for the power he has given you, and you pray that his power will flow into our veins. And we will be brought to the perfect world we were all promised. We are the Angels of Der Kaiser. His soldiers and his children. He has given us the light when there was none. And we will repay him until Eden is Created. For we, are Immortal. Our Army is Never Ending. And their arrogance is forever Damning. Begin." and once again the walls shook as the mighty voices of men and women spoke the mighty creed they had said earlier. Every individual praying for strength to Der Kaiser, every Individual thanking him for every second of breath. This was what it was like to live under Der Kaiser. A blessing, a gift, and strength. Once silence was created, the man spoke again, raising his hands causing the hundreds to stand before him. "Two of our Angels will accompany me in the stealing of the Sokkyokku. Some of you will accompany the Sternritter known as Baal, B,The Boss in the distraction of the remaining Shinigami. The rest will stay here, and train, continue to read from Seine Pracht, and profess their faith to God."
With a mighty roar the Quincies spoke in perfect harmony, with power to back up sense of pride they gained when knowing the were serving God. Their One and True God-King. "WE WILL NOT FAIL."[/color] Dismissed." With the mass ending and everyone going about their business. Caesar created platforms of reishi, forming a stairs downwards. As he descended towards the ground he calmly walked down the aisle and into the grand museam of Der Kaiser, with statues and paintings that celebrated the God King. He beckoned two captains to his side, two males dressed from head to toe in a perfectly neat uniform. The only addition to it that was not standard was a mask that hid both their faace, revealing only the eyes and a light skin tone revealing a caucasion nature. Their eyes were dark brown and on their sleeve wore the rank that they represented. Both of them sounded as if they were in their late twenties and bowed with respect. Remaining silent till the very end. "Bring me Private Vannan Harper." then he turned to the other Captain and spoke once more "Bring me the one known as Stern Ritter H. He should be a rank equal to yours, tell him that I require his presense at the Shadow Gate to Soul Society." and with that they dispersed. Off to bring Caesar the one that will assist in the stealing of the Sokkyokku and the Black Beads. "For our True God-King. We shall move the mountains and burn the skies."
Vannan silently slipped in just as Caesar was about to speak. He sat it the very back and didn't look at the other Vandenreich members in the eyes."We Believe in holy servitude, under the watchful eye of Der Kaiser we will rise above the call of his majesty.” Vannan started to tune out Caesar because of how much he hated all of this. The fact that he was forced into the Vandenreich, the fact that he had to give away his freedom to serve someone he never met and worst of all the fact that they were trying to brain wash him with all this religious propaganda. Vannan didn't believe a word of it and he had been hearing the same thing since day one. How they are the chosen and that the so called Kaiser is a god and they should worship him. It made him sick to the stomach, however he wouldn't dare to act out against any of this as long as his sister was kept safe and away from them.
Vannan followed all the motions that all the other quinces did by this time it was second nature. However something that Caesar said caught the attention of Vannan “We have been called upon to steal their sacred Sokkyokku.” Great just what I want to hear about a suicide mission that will involve some poor fools going right into the center of the Gotei Thirteen. I feel sorry for them because I sure as hell won't be volunteering for that mission. Vannan could feel his pocket vibrating from a message he had gotten from someone. How he wished he could check it, but he knew that if he got caught doing it during Caesar's service it would mean a crucifixion and maybe if he was lucky it would also involve death.“We are the Angels of Der Kaiser” Angels what a joke we are nothing more than over glorified soldiers in a campaign for genocide of several different races. We are no better than Nazis, no that's wrong we are Nazis.
Vannan saw that the others were standing up and he stood along with them. Caesar spoke a little more before everyone else shouted out “WE WILL NOT FAIL” Vannan shouted out as well because he knew that it was over and that he was free to go and soon the words he wanted to hear out of Caesar's mouth came out. “Dismissed” Vannan was one of the first to leave the cathedral. As soon as he was cleared he reached into his pocket and took out his phone to see who had texted him. It was a girl he had met in a club in New York on one of his last missions. “Hey Vannan I'm free tonight wanna come over?” Vannan didn't even have to think twice at that offer and texted as fast as his fingers could type. “Sure give me a bit and I'll come over.”
Vannan didn't waste any time as he headed towards his room to get changed out of his Vandenreich uniform. He didn't want the girl to get the wrong idea that he only had one set of clothing. As he was lifting his shirt over his head he heard footsteps and his door open. In a loud and commanding voice someone spoke “Private Vannan Harper Lord Caesar requests that you go to the shadow gate that leads to the Soul Society.” Vannan allowed his shirt to slide back down his body and just stood there with an open mouth. Why him why did Caesar want him? He had kept his head down and never tried to get attention. He wasn't even a Stern Ritter all he was is a lonely private. “Fix yourself and lets get going.” Vannan had no choice but to follow orders. There was no way he was getting out of this what made things worse is that without Caesar knowing it he had just cock blocked him. Vannan was actually more upset about that then being dragged into this suicide mission.
Vannan grabbed his coat off of his bed and fixed himself a bit still keeping his coat open as to his usual style. As he walked along side this captain he took out his phone keeping it to his side and texted the girl he was suppose to meet up. “Hey sorry something came up with work and I can't go I'll give you a call when I can though.” Vannan sighed internally there was no way that he could show nothing but excitement so his face had a false smile. “You're must be truly blessed to be chosen by Lord Caesar to go on this quest given to us by our Kaiser.” Vannan remained silent as he walked he didn't think of this as a blessing he though it was bad luck. While he walked he felt his phone vibrate again and took a quick look to see what it was. It was the girl and she had sent him a text along with a pic. The picture was of her in only her underwear and giving the camera a pouty look with the text“Ohh i'm so sorry hurry up.” Vannan could only hold in the rage he wanted to let out against Caesar and his bad luck being chosen for this mission.
It didn't take long after he read the message without the captain noticing before he was in front of Caesar.Even though Caesar was all alone it seemed as if there was a force behind him waiting to strike at any moment. The captain saluted Caesar and spoke “Here is private Vannan Harper Lord Caesar.” With that he walked away. Vannan could only salute Caesar and address him as he should of. “ Private Vannan Harper here to serve you Lord Caesar. Your will is my law.” Even though Vannan disliked Caesar he had to respect the authority Caesar commanded with just his presence. Vannan stood there silent till he heard another set of footsteps coming up behind him. Vannan assumed that this person was another Vandenreich member that would be joining them on the mission to the Soul Society.

Hadrian J. Ryan... John twirled the Silver Tube between his fingers, pondering his new name and recent promotion. It was certainly odd, and more than a little startling, that he had received such an honour from the Emperor himself. Sternritter H, 'The Hour'. It certainly matched his love of timepieces, and his unique Quincy powers. A fitting title, but was he really worthy of it? Self-doubt gnawed his innards as he scanned his new quarters.
They were a lot more spacious than the narrow cupboard he had received as a Private. He was seated on an icy throne, sculpted out of the floor, which was situated in the centre of a tall round room, the base of one of the towers of the palace. The door was directly opposite him, and behind him was a desk for paperwork and the such. To his left were empty bookshelves, waiting to be filled with his personal possessions.
Up the stairs, which jutted out of the wall, was his bed. A massive four-poster, it's frame and sheets were the same icy blue as the rest of the furniture, and the rest of the palace. A home fit for a king, or a loyal servant of the Emperor. But am I fit for it... John didn't have much time to mull over that particular thought. After a brief knock, the double doors swung open to reveal a Captain, Seth Knight. The visitor's grey eyes scanned the room before settling on John.
"Sir Hadrian, Lord Caesar has requested your presence at the Shadow Gate to the Soul Society immediately. You are to assist him in the mission." He gave John a brief nod before walking off again. No further explanation was required, John knew exactly what the task at hand was. He hadn't expected to be picked for the mission though. His time in the Vandenreich was getting weirder and weirder.
But first, he needed to do something. Walking over to the area behind the stairs in his quarters, he stepped into a little alcove not visible to anyone who walked in. In this little space was a modest altar, adorned with nothing but a single Vandenreich pentacle. There were no statues and pictures, but they were not required. John had met the Emperor, and he was not going to forget the appearance of his King.
John couldn't remember when he first seriously started praying to the Emperor. At first, he had sort of disregarded the religious aspect of the Vandenreich completely, preferring to view Der Kaiser as a King in place of a God. But something had slowly changed during his time in the Vandenreich. He had grown closer to the Emperor in both rank and 'spirit'. For some reason, John felt more acutely aware of the fact that the Emperor was the man to whom he owed his powers, and therefore his entire identity. Techniques like Blut and Vollstandig were only possible with the Emperor's blessing. The fact that His blood ran in John's veins made the connection even more intimate.
But it was upon his promotion to Sternritter that John realised the true connection. The Quincy were one with the Emperor, his soul resided in the body of every living Quincy. He fuelled the powers that John held so dear. He couldn't be anything but a God.
With his prayers finished, John stood up and made his way out of the small alcove. Walking over to his coat rack, he shrugged his white coat on and picked up his bandolier. Sliding 10 Silver Tubes carefully into the slots designed to hold them, and clipping a Selee Schneide to the side, John lifted the bandolier over his head, and buckled it firmly. After checking the straps on his boots, he threw open the double doors and walked down the corridor.
He pulled out his watch, checking the time. Two minutes to the hour... And so it begins. Baal and his forces would confront the Shinigami head on, while Caesar and John would sneak behind enemy lines and steal the designated items. John preferred this job, it minimised the number of innocent Shinigami soldiers that he had to kill. This way, he could serve the Emperor and stick by his own principles.
John turned sharply into the Hall of Gates, which held the Shadow Gates that the Vandenreich used for transport. Caesar was already there, along with another Quincy. Perhaps just an escort? Or maybe a third member of the taskforce? Walking in, John noticed from the style of his coat and his subservient body language that he was at most a Lieutenant, maybe a Private. At once, John felt a surge of sympathy for the poor man. John had worked with Caesar as a Private before, and it was a daunting experience. It certainly wouldn't be easy for this man to work with Caesar alone, let alone another Sternritter.
"Lord Caesar, Sir Hadrian here, reporting for duty." The name was new and unfamiliar in John's mouth, it felt weird saying it. However, it was only proper that he used his new title when addressing Caesar. He turned to the Private, intending to address him next. "Sternritter H, Hadrian the Hour. And what's your name, sir?" Again, the name felt weird on his lips. He waited politely for a reply before resuming speaking.
"I understand the mission at hand Lord Caesar, and am ready to undertake it." John took a small formal bow to Caesar, before turning away to make his own preparations. He checked his Silver Tubes and Selee Schneide, ensuring they were all present and correct. After that, he pulled his pocket watch out. This was in fact his Quincy Cross. Swinging it slightly on the chain, John pulled in reiatsu from the surrounding area, adding it to his own pool. He needed to be prepared going into enemy territory, he didn't know what they might encounter.

A chilly wind flowed through the palace of ice that the Vandenreich had gathered in, supposedly deep in the bottom of the Garganta, in the precipice of all shadows. It was so deep that no Arrancar could sense it. It was accessible only through the shadows in the Soul Society. It was where most Vandenreich made their permanent home, when they weren't in the human world. And it was where resided His Majesty the Emperor of the Vandenreich. But strangely enough, there were some who had never seen His Majesty. Those who had returned with the same devotion as Caesar, but those who hadn't remained loyal regardless for many different reasons.
"Are you uncomfortable, Private Vannan?" someone asked the reluctant Quincy from behind. If Vannan turned around, he'd see...no, it couldn't be. He had probably never met the man before, but here was someone whom he should dread to encounter. Though not as tall as Caesar, he was still a tall man, with neatly kept brown hair with only a few strands astray, a kindly face, and rectangular shaped glasses on his face. He was probably in his late 30s or early 40s, and had a very reassuring and friendly expression. He seemed like an easily likable man, and was smiling as he addressed Vannan. However, all should be weary of him, for he was the best at reading others, and it was said that he could read their minds.
Worst of all, he was the most powerful in the whole Vandenreich. Or, maybe worst of all, he shouldn't even be there. Wasn't he supposed to be in Soul Society already, parlaying with the Soul Reapers and distracting them? Yet, here he was. B, The Boss, Baal. His face could be recognized by anyone that saw him, and his reiatsu was easy to detect. His demeanor was calm, but beneath the surface bubbled unparalleled strength. There was a certain suffocating unapproachability to him. He couldn't be approached because of how powerful his aura was. Here was the man that was second only to the Emperor himself. But still, why was he here?
"To many besides you, it seems only words at first," Baal said, ousting Vannan's thoughts into the air as if directly reading the private's mind. "However, through experience, you will learn that His Majesty is absolute. Then you will be truly ready to serve Him." He didn't spend very much time on Vannan before moving to approach John. At once, John would be made aware of the crippling differences in their levels. Despite both being Stern Ritters, the difference in aura between Baal and John was like night and day. There was no comparison. Their power was not even remotely similar. It would take ten thousand of John to even think of fighting Baal. Winning was impossible for all but Der Kaiser.
"Congratulations on your promotion, Hadrian, H, The Hour," Baal said to John, knowledgable of who the Stern Ritters were. "It is my sincere hope to enjoy your company on my own missions in future as well." Baal was surprisingly very polite for someone who should actually be a stern military commander. But, he was not a stern military commander. He was a kindly man with a friendly face and attitude, and too much power for a guy that was so polite. Well, maybe it was because looks can be very deceiving. He may not look it, but there must be some reason why he ended up as the Emperor's right hand man. The strongest.
"The arrow which is to serve as my proxy is already in place," Baal told Caesar, leaving John to approach his fellow high ranked Stern Ritter and General. "His Majesty's arrow of holy light has assumed my form, and soon will connect minds with me so as to link our thoughts and personalities. This will be when your mission starts." The others might not understand it, but Caesar, being a General, would. Der Kaiser had a unique ability. One of his abilities was to create arrows which could mimic the form, voice, and actions of a person, and then attack with His Majesty's tremendous reiatsu strength. It had been the effective way of eliminating Death-Sama, and the Redemption Organization.
Another ability was its ability to mimic those who already existed, and link with them. In this way, Der Kaiser was able to control his own proxies, or allow those whom his arrows mimicked to assume telepathic control of their dopplegangers. This was the plan. Baal would never truly attend the wedding. Instead, a copy, and therefore one weaker than the likes of Baal, would serve in his stead to distract. Baal himself was strong, but sending such a valued officer into a combat role when he could be kept on reserve for another mission would be stupid. This was why Baal would be controlling a proxy instead of going himself. It was His Majesty's orders.
"It is also my duty to inform you that you while Captains Kuchiki and Souretsu are guaranteed to be distracted, you may run into both Kawada Captains. Be on guard if you do." A while after this, when more preparations were made for both Baal's side of the mission and Caesar's, Baal spoke again. "I am ready, Gerold," he said, addressing Caesar not by title, but by first name. This indicated not only familiarity, but authority. Baal was capable of addressing his fellows by their names, even if they had become Stern Ritters. Because he was stronger than they could ever be, and thus closer to His Majesty than they could ever be.
But, with Baal ready to manipulate his proxy, Caesar, Hadrian, and Vannan were sent into Soul Society. Where they would next emerge was in the sewers beneath Squad 10. This was closest to the Sokkyokku Hill, where the Sokkyokku rested. This also meant that it was a good opportunity to sneak around a little bit underground, but that they needed to be more careful once they surfaced. Squad 10 had a reputation for powerful monsters, and their Captain was currently unaccounted for and missing. He might appear at any moment to challenge them, and rumors had it that he was an enormously powerful foe.
Decision time. Explore the sewers, or surface and rise, and see where to go from there?
Knowledge may be power, but sight is the origin of knowledge, and I see everything. I am omnipotent, and nothing happens in this world which can escape my gaze.
The shadow gate closed behind them as the sound of tapping echoed off the sewer walls. Almost immediately Caesar covered his nose with his hands "I understand the reason behind being placed in a location that we will less likely be seen or sensed and that hopefully we are as close to the Sokkyoku hill that we are not in the sewers longer than we should." the General quietly said as he closed his eyes and placed his free hand onto the sewer walls. "Our first objective though is to find a source of light. We can not create bows of light because the drawing of reiatsu will draw those with a strong reiatsu sensory towards us." with a few more steps forward Caesar paid attention to every single detail of the sounds created around him before he spoke aloud in order for john to hear. "Hadrian. A name that the God King Der Kaiser has given you. Hadrian, H, the Hour. I welcome you to the ranks of the Stern Ritters. For it is an honor to be among the men and women who will be responsible for leading the holy army." Then without allowing time to pass, Caesar spoke up once again "Does any of you have any means to create light without the usage of Reiatsu. We do not have torches nor is there any natural light from the sun."
The footsteps behind him eventually stopped and he heard someone else talk reporting to Caesar. Vannan felt a bit happy that at the very least there was someone else in this mission that didn't seem as stern as Caesar. "Sternritter H, Hadrian the Hour. And what's your name, sir?" Vannan turned to face the man and spoke. “Private Vannan Harper, Sir, your will is my order sir.” Vannan really hated all this, but at the very least it seemed as with these two he wouldn't be in too much danger in this mission he hoped, but knowing his bad luck something horrible would happen. As Hadrian started to speak Vannan turned back around to face Caesar.
Vannan felt something else behind him someone even stronger than Caesar. He assumed it was impossible for someone else to even match Caesar's strength besides maybe the man they call Der Kaiser. That's when the man spoke "Are you uncomfortable, Private Vannan?" If he wasn't before he was sure as hell now, Vannan turned his head to see who spoke to him.Vannan had never met this person before, but he knew all too well who he was, it was Baal. There was no mistaking it now that he saw who was behind him, the rumors of this man were far too many to even count. However most all had one thing in common he was someone strong enough to take down anyone who opposed the Kaiser and after seeing him Vannan knew why.
Baal's next words sent shivers down Vannan spine and made his eye open wide in horror."To many besides you, it seems only words at first, however, through experience, you will learn that His Majesty is absolute. Then you will be truly ready to serve Him." The only word in Vannan's mind right now was Fuck. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUUUUUUUUUUCK. How did Baal know what Vannan's thoughts and feelings about the Vandenreich were? He always played the part of a good little solider to a T, he always made sure his tracks were covered and that no one noticed his real intentions or him sneaking away to visit the human world, but apparently Baal knew the truth about him. Vannan was shocked to say the least the only thing that brought him back was when Baal spoke to Caesar.
"I am ready, Gerold" Vannan couldn't believe what he had heard. It was Caesar's real name, one of the most closely guarded secrets in the Vandenreich and here was Baal dropping it like it was a common thing to know. Vannan wasn't about to forget this at all, he didn't know when, but for sure it would be useful to him eventually. For now learning the name of Caesar was almost worth missing out on his date, almost, but it wasn't enough to make him forget that he was still mad that Caesar had effectively cock-blocked him without even knowing what he did. For some odd reason Vannan felt that if he did say something about it to Caesar that it would make him happy to hear that.
So with that in mind he quietly followed Caesar and Hadrian into the gate and into the sewers of the Soul Society. The first thing that Vannan noticed was the smell of the place it reeked. There was no reason for the sewers to smell this bad, god what in hell do the shinigami eat to make such a horrific smell. It was no shock to him as to why they were in the sewers after all they weren't a fighting force they were suppose to steal something, however Caesar felt like it was his duty to say the obvious reason as to why they were in there. It seemed so painful to hear from him, Vannan had learned to be quick on his feet and stealthy to avoid being caught so to him it was like hearing the basics from a two year old. "Our first objective though is to find a source of light. We can not create bows of light because the drawing of reiatsu will draw those with a strong reiatsu sensory towards us.” It was as if Caesar thought that Vannan or Hadrian didn't know the basics.
Vannan would of loved to stay in the dark and not draw any attention to him so there could be a chance he could slip away and rejoin later, however Vannan knew that his best chance of living was to stick with Caesar. "Does any of you have any means to create light without the usage of Reiatsu. We do not have torches nor is there any natural light from the sun." Caesar's question was rather interesting, had he not brought something in case of this situation? Vannan knew that his smartphone could light up the area however it was a real drain on his battery and he didn't want his phone to die. It was a selfish reason to be sure as his phone was at full charge, but still he didn't want to do it. Hmmm I mean I could get some bonus points here for actually having the solution to such a simple issue, but that means that I might run out of battery....Wait I could totally text while the light is on.
With that Vannan pulled out his smartphone and turned on the flashlight app illuminating the dark tunnel. “I can lord Caesar. My smartphone has a light as you see. However I do wish to lead the group as this is one of my most cherished possessions I own lord Caesar. A gift from my younger sister.” That last part was a lie it wasn't a gift from his sister he got it from his old job, but they didn't need to know that. Vannan stepped passed Caesar and started walking using the light from his smartphone as a guide to see where he was going. “Lets get going, Sir I don't have too much battery left before it dies.” Again another lie however he assumed that the both of them wouldn't know that he was. As he walked he started to text his little sister.

"Congratulations on your promotion, Hadrian, H, The Hour. It is my sincere hope to enjoy your company on my own missions in future as well."
"Likewise, my lord." John bowed respectfully to the older man. He didn't let himself quiver under the impressive aura that emanated from Baal. John was under no illusion that he and Baal were at different planes of power. If John was Pluto, he was the Sun, there was simply no comparison. However, John was not intimidated by his power. They were on the same side after all, and Baal appeared much kinder on the surface than Caesar did. While John strived to achieve the dedication and loyalty Caesar displayed, he also wanted to preserve the humanity that Baal so effortlessly displayed.
It could all be an act, of course. Sternritter were picked based on their destructive power, so John was certain that Baal was the fiercest warrior in the Vandenreich. Though, warriors could still be human, right? How far did one have to go before casting aside their humanity in order to get stronger? John believed that Baal probably had to ask himself that question at some stage... But what was his answer...?
However, pleasantries were over. It was time for the mission to begin. Stepping through the Shadow Gate, John prepared for the worst. And it was bad. The stench hit him like a freight train, assailing his sense of smell more ferociously than a rabid Hollow. He almost staggered with the stench. Lifting his coat collar up, he wrapped it tightly around his nose before continuing on. However, as with all things, he eventually became used to it, and soon the coat collar was redundant.
"Hadrian. A name that the God King Der Kaiser has given you. Hadrian, H, the Hour. I welcome you to the ranks of the Stern Ritters. For it is an honor to be among the men and women who will be responsible for leading the holy army."
"Thank you, my lord." John was following behind Caesar, paying rapt attention to everything he said. "I assure you sir, the significance of the responsibility given to me by his Majesty is not lost on me. I will not fail, nor do I hope to falter, in his service." While John had a naturally polite tone of voice, the forced ceremony of his speech when addressing his superiors really wore him down. Every word had to be carefully picked, nothing left ambiguous.
However, those thoughts could rest for a while. What they needed now was... light. “I can, lord Caesar. My smartphone has a light as you see. However I do wish to lead the group as this is one of my most cherished possessions I own lord Caesar. A gift from my younger sister.” Good for you, Private Harper... John thought, with a little smile. He couldn't help but feel a little proud at the Private's resourcefulness. The sight of other people flourishing pleased John, and he was glad that Private Harper was making good progress.
However, silence once again swallowed the group as they followed the narrow beam of light from the Private's phone. But, what piqued John's curiosity was that Vannan was... texting. John was genuinely interested. Walking right up behind the Private, he said: "Ah! So you actually get reception here? In a place like this? What network are you on?" John indicated the solid stone walls of the sewer, and also subtly hinted at the fact that they were in the Soul Society, which was practically another dimension. It was all light fun though, just to make conversation.
However, what caught John's eye was the little battery symbol in the corner. It glowed a pleasant green, with a percentage well above the fifty percent written beside it. Didn't he just say it was running low on battery? Perhaps he didn't know that John had grown up in the Human World, mostly in the 21st Century. He knew what a phone was and how it worked. Caesar, on the other hand, might have a harder time comprehending. "I wouldn't do too much texting while the light is on, sir. It really kills the battery." John said to him, with a little smile and a knowing wink.

While the Vandenreich had had nothing to fear when they'd originally invaded the Soul Society, given how they had annihilated the Soul Reapers, now the tension in the air was different than the first time. There was some sort of an increased sense of danger to this place. Perhaps it was because while it hadn't been long, the Soul Reapers had grown more powerful. In particular, Enma, Sozen Kuchiki, and Okusa Shogen, all Captains once defeated by a single Stern Ritter, had been reported to have grown, particularly Sozen Kuchiki.
Or perhaps it was the remnant of the Soul Reaper aura that had occupied these sewers. During the invasion, when the Soul Reapers were desperate, this place had become a fortified barricade behind which the last ebbs of force in their military had resided. Among them had been two of interest, who had taken command while the Captain Commander, Kyousou Ningen, had been incapacitated by the strength of his Holy Majesty, Der Kaiser, the Emperor of the mighty Vandenreich.
Those two that had taken command, Jinbei Kawada and Kenpachi Shingai, were infamous. Caesar himself had once briefly encountered Kenpachi Shingai, and would be aware that not only was the latter's power above any of the Stern Ritters, but that it was easily on par with if not superior to even the Captain Commander. The other, Jinbei Kawada, was a mystery, but they said that his power was very close to Kenpachi Shingai's, and that unlike Shingai, Jinbei Kawada also had vast wealth and resources, and thus had other power besides his own.
As they journeyed through the sewers, they would suddenly be capable of sensing tremendous reiatsu overhead. It would be better to mask their reiatsu immediately, to the best of their ability, and tread very lightly and carefully. They might even want to go silent for a moment. According to the map Caesar would have been given, this part of the sewers took them beneath the Squad 12 barracks. Technically, this was closest to the Sokkyokku, but Squad 10 was the closest they could spawn without being sensed.
This progress meant they had been walking for around an hour. If they surfaced now, they would be in Squad 12 itself. If they continued a bit more, they would be past Squad 12, and right at the beginning of the stairs which led to the top of Sokkyokku Hill. The aura emanating from Squad 12 was heavy probably because of what lay within it. In its heyday, when it was at its greatest, Captains such as Bokuga Sayuri had had specimens and experiments which were unspeakable, and left a sickening aura behind.
Now, under a new Captain, or so rumors said, Squad 12 had resumed some of Bokuga Sayuri's projects previously put on hold. If they surfaced within Squad 12, it would be easier to sneak around, but there was no telling what hidden dangers were lurking in those barracks. There was very little information, because not many people ever really went in or out. It would be easier to sneak around, but it would probably be safer to start at the Sokkyokku Hill's stairs. Unfortunately, that was wide open space with nowhere to hide. What to do, what to do...?

It was a shock to Vannan that Caesar said nothing the whole time that he was speaking, at the very least it seems like his idea had gotten him some favor as he didn't instantly feel an arrow in his back so that was something to be happy about. As he started to text away he heard Hadrian speak about how how Vannan had reception. It was a reasonable question to ask about his phone after all they were in the soul society, to be honest though Vannan really didn't have a clue as to how it worked all he cared about that it actually did work in any place he was in. Still the person who offered him his service was a bit strange, but he got the job done.
“Hmm oh yea I got a contract with Urahara mobile, they're amazing I never get a dropped call or miss a text.” Vannan continued looking at the texts he was working on when Hadrian said something about not texting because it would kill his battery, while that was true he had an almost fully charged cellphone so he wasn't to worried about that, the thing that bothered him was the fact that Hadrian called him sir. In any situation it was him who should called Hadrian sir not the other way around. “Y-yea I guess you're right sir, I'll try to keep the texting down to a minimum, sorry it's a nervous habit.” It really wasn't he was just a text bug and loved to text as much as he could and at the moment he was talking to some cutie back in Karakura town he met one day when he went out shopping for something for his sister.
The wink and the smile from Hardin made Vannan feel a little more at ease, it was nice to see that not all the people in charge were like Caesar. Slowly he kept on leading the group with his light illuminating the path to where they had to go. He followed the orders of Caesar of which way to go based on the map that Caesar had. It was a strange thing to see that Caesar had though ahead to bring a map, but not a light. Maybe in his old age the quincy's mind was slipping. Oh great that's just what we need leading us in this mission an old religious nut with the power to take down a whole country who's losing their mind, god if you are real please kill me now. Vannan waited for a few seconds, but nope nothing had happened like he thought, there was no god, no devil, no such things as angels, no such things as demons the truth was far worse than that.
Vannan remained silent for a time while he read the texts, before he even knew it they had been walking for an hour and that's when he felt something that made him sick to his stomach. The reiatsu coming from above seemed so evil and twisted it almost caused Vannan to throw up. It felt as if it was full of pain and anger. It was vile and he wanted no part of it. He stopped walking and focused on keeping his reiatsu hidden. Taking a look at the map he saw that if they didn't make any mistakes they would be under a squad building that was close to their target, however he didn't want to go up and meet whatever had that reiatsu, but sadly that wasn't up to him. It was Caesar's call. Without saying a word he quickly typed on his cellphone in big bold letters so even someone with horrible vision could read it and showed it to Caesar. “SHOULD WE GO UP?” He could only hope that Caesar would say no or nod a no. He smiled at Hadrian and titled the screen so he could see it as well. Even though it was Caesar's call he knew that Hadrian could convince Caesar what to do.
If they did say yes Vannan would turn off the light on his phone and place it on silent then grab a small rock off of the ground. After that he would slowly climb up the metal bars that lead up to the bottom of the barracks. As he reached the top he would lift up the hatch ever so slightly just enough so he could take a look around and see what was going on. If the cost looked clear and he didn't sense any reiatsu around him, he would open the hatch making sure to make as little noise as possible. If the cost wasn't clean he would have to wait till it was, and if it wasn't going to be he would take the small pebble and with one hand flick it at a wall to distract what ever was in the way so he could move quickly and get out of the sewers.Once outside of the sewers he would find a hiding spot in a dark area and wait for the rest of his party to follow suit.
If they said no and how he wished that they would say no he would slowly take each step one at a time trying not to make noise and keep his reiatsu hidden until they would no longer feel the reiatsu from the barracks. He would allow himself to sigh and smile feeling that the worse was behind him. He would keep on going without saying much else till they reached the squad ten barracks and surfice there.

OOC: Introducing new posting plot device! In italics, that's narration this post. I'm introducing...A NARRATOR BEYOND THE FOURTH WALL, WHO PROVIDES EXPOSITION. Because it lengthens my post.
Suddenly, they would feel something awful. What could it be, that it could feel this ghastly? It was more than murderous. It was malevolent. It was intense. It was evil. It was the most horrible aura that they would ever feel. Worse than Bokuga Sayuri's. Worse than the murderous intent of Segunda Espada Kuroi Naito. Worse than anything that they had ever felt. It was bottomless, far beyond and beneath the lowest of depths. It was as if some force was providing vindication and validation of what the Vandenreich said about Soul Reapers being evil.
Auras. All spiritual beings possess them. Some possess small auras. Others large auras. No matter who they are, if they possess any sort of spiritual power, then they are capable of forming, maintaining, and showing an aura. An aura is as unique to an individual as a fingerprint. Oftentimes, the aura can tell in advance not only how much raw spiritual power the individual possesses, but what kind of personality that individual has. It can be used to identify the liars, the murderers, and the most cunning.
While ordinarily, spiritual combatants gauge one another's level of power off of the size and refinement of the aura, it is not necessarily always accurate. In a battle of auras, participants will find that one wrong step can shift the tide of battle and end in an unexpected outcome. A different death. Size and refinement are not always what determine who is stronger. Personality, however, is another story. Regardless of the aura size, when sensing a dangerous personality, anyone should feel some degree of fear.
That aura was huge. It was easily almost as big as Caesar's, which was incredible considering that Caesar was not only a Stern Ritter, but a General. He was among the five strongest Quincy of the Vandenreich. Any aura that came even close to his must be a Captain, and yet not even the Captains approached that near the strength of his aura. So then, who or what was it, that could be so powerful, and so completely evil, sickening, and repulsive? A feeling like this, which could induce puking, must be a monster.
And then, suddenly, footsteps in the distance. Shadows looming. Two shadows, and torches. Talking. Soul Reapers were approaching from around the corner, judging by that reiatsu. But, judging by their relaxed state and banter, they were just patrolling, or otherwise were on some kind of cleaning duty. So, would the Quincy go up into Squad 12 above, or risk discovery? They could try and dispatch the Soul Reapers. It would probably be easy. But would they want to risk any kind of fight, or would they rather go up? It was up to them.

[OOC: Skipping Clock, as I just want to get a post up.]
"SHOULD WE GO UP?”
John read the phone screen, which Vannan had typed out, indicating the ladder on their right. It seemed like a reasonable request. Moving back a step to look into Caesar's map, he checked it. They were underneath Squad 12's Barracks, whose Captain was missing in action, according to the Vandenreich reports. It would certainly make the most sense to exit now, as there was less of a chance of encountering a Captain-level opponent, something which should be avoided if at all necessary.
John was about to turn to Caesar and Vannan, on the verge of explaining his reasoning as to why they should go up, when he suddenly felt an aura more vile than the sewer they were standing in. With his energy sensory, John had met various different people and had encountered a wide range of auras, but he had never come across one as strong and as... mad as this. It even dwarfed the impressive aura of Caesar, no mean feat as Caesar was perhaps the third strongest member of the Vandenreich, after Baal and the Emperor himself.
At once John felt uncontrollable fear, and put his hand against the wall to steady himself. Resisting the rising vomit in his throat, they had to act fast before that... thing found them. The sound of relaxed talking echoed around the cavernous sewer. Whoever was approaching was nearby, and obviously did not seem very concerned about being detected. One of them couldn't possibly be responsible for this vile aura, could they?
The Soul Society was in the middle of the strongest Invasion it had ever faced, there was no way they would send someone this strong simply patrolling the sewer. The aura had to be coming from somewhere else, he was sure of it. However, that still didn't affect his decision that going up was now their best option, if they wanted to avoid a fight. John imagined that the two Shinigami on patrol in the middle of an Invasion couldn't be very strong, probably just protecting weaker units.
Or perhaps they were deserters. Scared off by the power of the Vandenreich. Either way, it didn't matter. John whispered, his voice barely audible above the echoing conversation of the two Shinigami. "We should go up." Whether one of those Shinigami were the source of that aura or not, they needed to get out of there, and quickly. If they decided to go up. John would stand by the ladder, allowing Vannan and Caesar to climb it first, before climbing it himself. If not, he would prepare himself for a battle. Regardless, this was the perfect opportunity to draw in some more reiatsu from the rich environment using his Quincy Cross.

OOC: We'll operate right now as if there was consensus in the group, since 2/3 of you externally expressed the desire to go up. It'll next be Vannan's post after my current post here.
Ascension into Squad 12 did allow them to evade the sewer patrols. As soon as the manhole beneath the three Quincy closed, the reiatsu that they would feel inside of the sewers vanished completely, as if cut off from the world. It looked like the floors, or something in the Squad 12 barracks, had the potential to reduce the feeling of reiatsu beyond the borders of Squad 12. In that case, how had the aura they'd felt earlier been so potent? If it had been that malevolent and terrifying despite an environment which actually reduced the potency of auras, then in person, it must be even worse. For the moment, it had disappeared, but would it stay that way?
Well, it didn't matter yet. Taking a look around, they would be greeted by visuals that some could only dream of. They were in a huge, dimly lit laboratory room, with surgery tables taking up an entire side of the room, each covered in an array of tools, some of which could not even be identified by a common name. Sure, they had scalpels and threads and needles and other things, but in one case there was a small blue pyramid, and in another, some kind of red, transparent disc of a thing, very flat like a pancake. All tables had the common surgical instruments, and all also had the same sets of unusual tools that could not be immediately identified.
That was an entire half of the room. Over on the other side, stacked against the walls were six generators which sparked with black electricity, and gave off a heavy aura. This made it clear that they were fueled by reiatsu, though where the reiatsu came from was a mystery. They were electric generators used to power the rest of the room that existed besides the tables. But, what existed in the room besides those surgical tables? Well, what it was revealed the purpose of the room. To be used on the unusual, for scientific dissections, testing of drugs, and perhaps many other things that didn't immediately come to the scientifically uninformed mind.
Throughout the room, covering an entire half next to the generators, there were rows and rows of neatly aligned tubes. They were all huge, cylindrical chambers of full of green liquid, probably crafted out of some sort of special glass to suppress reiatsu sensations from leaving the chambers. And while there were three or four which were empty, the rest (of which there were dozens) were full. Those which were full had a wide array of guests. In some, perfectly normal, human looking bodies, eyes closed, floating there. In others, there were Hollows. In some, there were grotesque, deformed monsters that couldn't even be identified by race.
In a few select tubes in particular, there were humanoid bodies with an odd deformity. In two of the tubes specifically, there were humanoid bodies which each had one very specific deformity. Of both of these, their left arms were black, scaly, and had three extremely long clawed fingers, which, albeit bladed, did look like fingers. The arms as a whole however much resembled the legs of ants. Giant ant legs made humanoid so as to become arms? Perhaps so. And, of the two humanoids with the black arms, though both were bald, one was clearly female, given it had breasts, and its nudity revealed its genitalia to be female. This was important, because the female one had a bulge along the stomach, indicating possibly being pregnant.
Against the walls behind the three Quincy, there were rows and rows of large screens, and keyboards for typing. These were computers, probably on which to store data. The three Quincy had stumbled into somewhere different from the rest of Soul Society. To end up in another squad's barracks would have been a simple matter, as would appearing on the Sokkyokku Hill itself. But, they had ended up in Squad 12, and found something completely unexpected. Well, they did have a few options now. They could leave the Squad 12 barracks, and continue to Sokkyokku Hill without a fuss, or they could investigate further. What kind of secret sciences, and perhaps weapons, was the Soul Society developing?
One more thing of interest. On one of the tables, there was a unique item which none of the others possessed. A small, well sealed jar containing green liquid. The jar wasn't even four inches tall, or three inches wide. It was small. But, within this jar, floating there, within the green liquid, was a single eyeball. The eye was normal up until the iris, which was scarlet. What was this unique thing? An extremely powerful reiatsu aura emanated from that jar. It could very well be an item with very special properties. Or it could be something even more sinister. The Quincy had so much to take in...
