Squad 13 was where he had ended up, outsides of the barracks it seemed oddly. His plan was to go from there, drop off the central 46 member and rush to the captain commander for questions. He needed answers fast and the captain commander was his best option to get results fast. If he had gone to the Omnisukido building, for example, and asked for the records, this would take time, time that Zieg did not have. He wanted to get back, at least at this time, to the Vandenreich palace and assist Shade and Sozen. He wanted to help them, to prove his worth, and rescue the daughter of the 46 member. He also wanted to continue his search to look for something to use against the Vandenreich in their palace, that perhaps they were hiding something or keeping another person imprisoned. He just had a feeling that there had to be something there that would help them gain an advantage over this Vandenreich and its Emperor. He had time though, it wouldn't take too long, he would be back in no time and return to his search.
At least, that was his mindset before he exited the portal and was met with the killing of the random squad 13 member at the wall besides him. He heard and saw the central member scream and run off, watching him for a moment before his eyes slowly shifted forward and saw the intruders. "Vandenreich... Heres...!?" Zieg exclaimed in his mind as his eyes bugged out as he stared at the five of them. How was this possible, what were they doing here, how were they her, were they here on purpose and had meaningfully intercepted him or were they just leaving and happen to have catch the captain returning back to Soul Society? These questions raced through his mind as the Vandenreich captains began introducing themselves to him, each having a single letter name and some kind of title to them, as well as a last time. The titles really stuck out to Zieg, the titles and captains' faces being embroidered into his memory. He was certainly fucked and shit out of luck now, he had nowhere to go and he was ambushed in his own home! Zieg listeined to their mission statement and basically translated it to this: "Hi, we are here to kick your ass, leave you for dead for your friends to find you, so you can tell them we will be back to destroy you and your home in 12 days."
It was quite clear that he was outnumbered and perhaps overpowered due to these odds. 5 against 1 was a feat only the strongest of captains could accomplish and, if Shade's report was correct, these Vanderich captains were no joke. Their strength seemingly rivaled that of the Ogatago members that Zieg had encountered during the infamous meeting where he was reunited with Shauna and forged an alliance with Death-sama and his organization. Here, Zieg had faced the Ogatago members Shiga and Kassen, though it was mainly Shauna and Enma battling them. He had seen their strength and knew that they could probably easily beat Zieg in a one on one fight back then. Even though Zieg has gained strength since that encountered and has better adjusted himself to his true calling as a shinigami, a 5 on 1 battle was going to quite one sided. He had very few options to go on as he stood there, eying all 5 of the Vanderich captains that had invaded Soul Society and were apparently waiting for them. How exactly they had gotten in undetected and why none of the other squad members of 13 were here did not cross his mind. Zieg was too busy trying to figure out how the hell he was going to get through this.
He knew he couldn't afford to attack, at least not be the first one to initiate the offensive move. He had learned, against his battles against Kuroi especially, that the first move didn't normally turn out well in the end. He had lost to Kuroi numerous times, though thankfully lived, and this situation was even deadlier. One false move forward, he would be surrounded and blindsided by arrows and whatever else the captains would throw at him. He couldn't fight and win against five of them, hell, he would be lucky to injure one, even luckier and blessed to kill one someone. He had to play the offensive card smartly and be on the defensive end for now. He had to create a opening and catch one of them by surprise, as well as draw attention to the other squads and alert them there were enemies here. So what was the captain going to do now, no reinforcements were insight and he couldn't try to get the attention of the others squads now. If he did, the Vandenreich captains would know what he was doing and would surge on him like a rouge wave on a fishing boat in the middle of the Atlantic.
So, Zieg chose to do the passive action for once: speak to the Vandenreich. Afterall, he still needed to know the information on the Emperor and perhaps he could gain some insight from the captains accidentally. "Ill admit, I am more then impressed. Its rare that the enemy would be allowed to slip into Soul Society unnoticed and face a lowly being such as me." Zieg would plainly state, purposefully making himself look bad. Duh, they no doubt were already in the mindset that they could do their task easily against Zieg, but it didn't help to try and make them feel like they can do their task even easier. "Your Emperor, I was informed he had killed 25th Captain Commander, that certainly is not an easy feat. I do not know much of him but to kill a Captain Commander is a feat that makes quite a statement. What else has your Emperor done that is part of his reputation? I would love to know more about him and his accomplishments through these centuries." Zieg had complimented and asked the Captains, seeing if perhaps he could get an answer out of them. Of course, he was prepared to book it if they made a move against it. He knew he had to get out of the area and run if they came after him. Plain and simple.
