Ignoring the rustling in the bushes and moving forwards, Zeruel and Marcellius would continue heading into the forest in their easterly direction, moving directly away from the cliff at their back. The trees still looked bare and the vegetation was sparse, so the rustling behind them stopped as there was nothing to rustle. They continued along the path, but soon the clearly defined path thinned out and then completely disappeared. The lack of vegetation made the contrast between the traveled area and the virgin land unclear, and soon there was no way of seeing what area had been walked on before. For all the two Arrancar knew, they were the first sentient beings to step foot on that very dirt.
As the entered the thick of the jungle, almost immediately they'd be met by a thick wall of trees that had fallen down. On close examination of the bases, the trees had been eaten through to the point where they had fallen down. Millions of bites had broken through the layers of the thick trees, and over time caused them to lean and crash. Walking just thirty feet to either side would allow them to bypass the wall and keep walking, and it could also be easily climbed over. On the left side of the tree, it was propped up against a big rock, so there was about a foot and a half of clearance into the clearing beyond the two stacked trees. As they approached it, the sound of footsteps grew much closer to them. Their follower was making a move.
The footsteps were headed straight for them, and just before the being making them was within sight range, through the thick fog they would hear a loud bleating. Out of the soupy fog came crashing the goat that Marcellius had taken a liking to and Zeruel had the pair of Arrancar leave behind. It rushed past them, squirmed under the wall of trees, and carried into the forest. There was a moment of silence before the goat started to call out in pain and agony. Birds scattered from the treetop as the sounds of the pitiful creature echoed through the air. The universal song of pain and remorse was clearly heard and caused the rest of the forest to be silent in mourning of the loss of the creature. But it wasn't too late, if the Arrancar chose to step in and save it.
Meanwhile, Hokori had made it to the bend in the river safely, barely. As his sandals slapped across the water, he'd quickly notice that the water was filled with hungry fish that snapped at his feet as he ran past. His speed was enough for now, but all that saved him was his ascent into the trees. The piranha almost caught his ankles as they jumped at him from the front instead of from behind, but he managed to escape with no harm. As he made his way through the trees, he traveled a few miles before coming across a hidden trap in the canopy. It would look normal, but as he stepped on the branches, they would suddenly give way to the snares of a spider. The Shinigami would instantly be wrapped up in web from head to toe and left dangling upside down. All around him were birds and beasts of all shapes and sizes.
The reason why the area around him had been so devoid of creatures was now very obvious. From his position in the web, he would see that the web of these spiders stretched far to each side, many miles of webs and food. The trap that he had sprung accidentally hadn't been made for something of his size, but the spiders were more than capable of adjusting for the unexpected feast. These less than common spiders seemed capable of affecting him even in his spirit body, and the webs were thick. He wouldn't have a lot of room to move, and he wasn't strong enough to break out by brute force, but maybe the Captain had something else up his sleeve. He had plenty of time, since the spiders were more focused on calling others to the feast of his flesh rather than digging in immediately.
