This a joint training exercise between Manabu Brock, Unseated Officer of Seventh Division, and Zanken Gairan, Vice Captain of Third Division. This training will take place on the Sokyoku Hill. Zanken has sent a letter containing a Training Notice, saying that Zanken had requested to have Manabu train with him. Zanken is already at the site, so now Manabu just needs to get there.

Manabu arrived at Sokyoku Hill 15 minutes early. He was not one to keep anyone, especially a Vice Captiain, waiting. He was shocked to find Zanken already there! He dropped to his knees and bowed.
"Gairan-fukutaicho! Please forgive me for being late! I'm very sorry to have made you wait for me!" Manabu was now scared out of his mind. He had no idea how harsh Zanken might be. He didn't even know what Zanken wanted with him. He was an unseated officer in a completely different squad. This was certainly an honor, but Manabu had no end of questions.

Zanken had actually gotten to a training match early for once. He had NOT wanted to be late again so he had come an hour earlier than Manabu had actually. Zanken was sitting by the base of the gigantic weapon, with a little cloth sheet out. Zanken was sitting on this seat and there was a tea kettle with tea in it boiling a little bit to the left of him.
"Hahaha, its all right, you're not late. Im just early." Zanken said with a smile at the unseated officer. Zanken was in his usual attire, his large gray, red, and gold schemed trench-coat with the Squad Three insignia on the back in black with a gray Shinakusho underneath it, red, gray, and gold schemed human esq jeans and gold and red army boots. Zanken certainly was hard to mistake for someone else. "Now before we begin, want some tea?" Zanken asked, extending a hand with a tea cup in it. It was a special blend Zanken himself made. It was a little strong, but it was unexpectedly good.

Manabu looked up with eyes wide as a deer's in headlights. There Zanken sat with his smile. It was only a moment, but it seemed like ages to Manabu as he stood up and walked over.
"Ar... arigato-gozaimasu, Gairan-fukutaicho." Manabu pulled out his own handkerchief, spread it out, and sat on it opposite Zanken. He accepted an extended cup of tea, which he could smell from a few feet away. No matter how it tastes, I must not react poorly, or I'll have regrets when I die - ten seconds from now.[/i] Manabu gingerly took a sip. His eyes widened again and his face lit up.
"Delightful!" he said straight to Zanken's face with a smile. The Vice Captain seemed pleased that he liked it. "What kind is it? ...Fukutaicho! he added when he realized he had relaxed a bit.

"A special little blend that I made myself." Zanken simply replied. Zanken had his Zanpakuto in its sheath, resting against a part of the wooden frame of the huge weapon. After a few moments, and a few little pastrys that Zanken had made, he asked Manabu, "Well now, that was good wasn't it? What do you say we start off with a little spar, to let me get used to your style and all."

"Hai, fukutaicho!" Manabu got up and walked away from the tea. He waited for Zanken to take his spot after which Zanken indicated that he should attack. Manabu had learned a few things so far. Zanken drinks tea and enjoys it. He even has his own blend. He has a mind that operates and is able to comprehend flavors. He is also able to brew tea correctly. He has control in addition to the power that Manabu already knew about (he was, after all, a Vice Captain of the Gotei 13). Manabu marked him as not overly aggressive.
He probably won't use more force than necessary. His style will not be purely attack nor defense. Let's see what happens.[/i]
Manabu ran toward Zanken and attacked with a jump kick. The Vice Captain would surely have no problem with this. Manabu's next actions depended on Zanken's reaction.

"Hmm. Jump kick. Haven't seen that one in a while." Zanken simply said as Manabu rushed at him. The reason why he hadn't seem ot om a while? It had one fundamental flaw. It really had no control if the move missed. Zanken simply stepped to the side of Manabu's kick, and watched as Manabu crashed into the wooden frame of the Sokyoku's wooden frame.
"First rule of combat: Always know your surroundings. Five seconds of simply looking around and analyzing the place you're in can save your life." Zanken simply said, extending a hand to help Manabu up.

Manabu sprang off the frame and launched a falling sweep at Zanken's legs. To think that a calculator of Manabu's ability had missed a giant structure towering over them was the true miscalculation. Had Zanken been a weaker opponent in a real fight, this would have cost him dearly.

"Hoho. Sweeping kick eh?" Zanken said with a slight smile. Suddenly Zanken was gone from the spot that Manabu was kicking at. Had he used Shunpo to move? No! Wait! He was in the air above Manabu! Zanken had jumped over Manabu during his kick and then landed on the other side of him! The spot where Manabu was kicking at had no person in it now.

Manabu let his kick run out of power rather than stop it in a hurry. He stood up and faced Zanken. He examined him for a bit. So far Manabu had seen that he, indeed, did not feel a need to demonstrate his power. He had accurately predicted that he wouldn't use excess force. There were still a few things he needed to find out though. This time Manabu approached slowly before throwing a simple punch at Zanken's face.

As Manabu punched at Zanken, Zanken simply grabbed his fist and stopped his punch in its tracks. Zanken proceeded to sweep Manabu's feet out from under him, and then he kicked one of Manabu's three swords, the Wakizashi, from its position on his belt, and then proceeded to launch Manabu up into the air with his other foot, letting go as Manabu went up into the air. Zanken quickly vanished from his spot and appeared behind Manabu mid air. Zanken suddenly stopped Manabu in mid air with his foot, flashed a quick grin at Manabu, and then grabbed hold of his Shinakusho and pulled. This caused Manabu to spin in the air like a top. Zanken relieved Manabu of his other two swords rather quickly. Zanken knocked Manabu out of the air with a swift, light, kick and sent him down towards the ground. Zanken got there before him and stopped Manabu from hitting the ground with a palm strike to the chest. It was a light palm strike, so not to hurt Manabu to badly, but it WOULD give him a jolt.

Manabu coughed and fell to his knees. He got up and looked smiling at Zanken. Then he bowed.
"Arigato gozaimasu, Garian-fukutaicho. I think I understand now."
Manabu charged with real force this time. He had been going half-heartedly before, but now he was more serious. He'd collected his preliminary data and was ready to participate. This time he opened with a left punch to the face that actually turned out to be a left elbow to Zanken's side. How would Zanken react? If it actually connected and affected him, Manabu was ready to continue the series of attacks. There was no assurance, however, that an opponent like this would not block or dodge the attack even though it was tricky. On top of that, if the attack made it, there was no assurance it would hurt.

Zanken smiled as Brock said what he said and then charged at Zanken. Zanken did something unexpected then. He closed his eyes, and put both hands together as if in prayer. Zanken was obviously about to do something, but the question was, would Manabu continue to attack? Or would he analyze Zanken first?
Post by Manabu Brock on Dec 16, 2010 19:39:22 GMT -5
Once Zanken closed his eyes Manabu no longer needed to use a visually deceptive attack. He continued his charge and decided to kick instead. His left leg came swinging towards Zanken's side. Would this prove to be just a bit of fun Zanken was having, or the beginning of a technique that required this stance and concentration, or both?

As soon as the kick neared Zanken's body, he quickly caught it with his right hand. Zanken's eyes snapped back open and suddenly said, "Initiate." Ohhhh boy. This was gonna hurt Manabu quite a bit. Suddenly, Zanken advanced, taking a strong step forwards. As he did this, he sent rapid, multiple palm strikes all across Manabu's body, striking all over his torso, abdominals, face, and arms. Zanken suddenly stopped, and advanced once more, with the right leg this time. Another wave of palm strikes pelted Manabu swiftly. Finally, Zanken advanced once more, this time, striking faster and a little bit harder then the other two times. As the final blow came, Zanken struck with a strong palm strike, twisting his hand over in mid air so it was now upside down and then brought his fingers in to make it look like a claw. Zanken struck the middle of Manabu's chest, which would throw him backwards a few feet. Zanken hadn't made the strikes TO strong, but they were strong enough. Zanken walked over to Manabu and then said, "So! That was interesting. Ive gained a bit of knowledge on you during our fight. Shall we move on to Kendo then?" Zanken said with a smile, extending his hand.
