Standing in the center of the small standing area surrounded by the ruling group of Soul Society was the Captain of the Onmitsukido, Kimiko Shihoin. It wasn’t something that normally happened when the majority of central forty six converged together. Normally she met with one or several when receiving or exchanging information. She had only ever met them like this here times including at the moment. The first had been when she had taken over her position when her cousin Okami had gone missing. Choosing to put her family first and concede her Captaincy of Division Seven to retain the Onmitsukido as a Shihoin led Division was a hard choice. She believed it was a selfless one for her family, but still it didn’t sit easy in her soul. She had been called today to go over further information about the war against the other spiritual worlds and the factions within them. It had been going on for several hours already and Kimiko felt she really needed to stretch although doing so would result in at least a few central calling on her disrespect towards them. They weren’t wrong, she didn’t respect more than a handful who were given their rank based on blood and nothing else. She felt the same about any of the nobles also, in her eyes only those that put in the effort deserved respect.
“From this moment forward you’ll be pulling back your deployments against fugitives, enemies and aid to other Divisions. We expect you to follow the designation of the Onmitsukido to the letter. We have too many new shinigami graduating from the academy to not keep your eyes on them at all times.”
Kimiko stopped and looked around the room shocked as she had just been completely taken off guard. “We’re at war, a bigger war than Soul Society has seen in decades. You want me to stop helping and worry about some brand new recruits that can’t even communicate with their zanpakuto instead of taking down Quincy and Arrancar!”
“Miss Shihoin calm yourself, this is a council room show respect. We need you to lead in what you’re supposed to do.”
“I’m a shinigami. I’m supposed to protect and move souls here to Soul Society. To stop Hollows, Arrancar Quincy and anyone else that you people deem a threat. We don’t have the manpower to fight this war half assed so I suggest you allow me to keep helping the Captain Commander so we can all stay safe.”
“Quiet! Another outburst like that and we’ll have you removed!”
“The Captain Commander does not require your aid. We’re perfectly fine with the handful of Captains we currently possess.”
“Yeah it’s not like we’ve suffered repeated attacks from Hell in the last two years also or have you forgotten that the pit has been more active against us lately as well. We need to stop worrying so much about controlling ourselves and focus on protecting ourselves against our enemies.”
“Kimiko! We’ve told you what to do now you will obey!”
Kimiko’s eyes twitched, her face morphing in a rage. They were not shinigami. Those that had been were long since retired. Paranoid with what’s around them and not on the enemy in front. Kimiko, still young and headstrong, had enough of the politics.
“Find someone else, I resign as Captain of the Onmitsukido!”
Turning her back on Central, Kimiko knew this wasn’t going to go over easily with the Shihoin elders, but she already knew what her next course of action would be and what Division she would now claim for the Shihoin. “You’ll see me again soon, just remember I’ll be the one keeping you safe in those chairs from the nightmares of the other worlds.”
