“Whenever I like~?” Rin questioned aloud as she continued on into the forest. Her fingers traced along the trunks of dead trees that she’d passed as she dallied about on her way to what was likely maybe death or not death. Who knows? She was just happy she wasn’t alone now. The Empress was clearly in much higher spirits but that naturally came with the territory when dealing with dearest Ranth. He had a way of relinquishing her heart from the heaviest of weights. Having him on such a journey made her feel like she— no, they, could accomplish anything. “Even tonight? You’re rather effective in your efforts to spoil an Empress~” She grinned, looking back at him, knowing the implication of her words. Seeing the flush on his face was something priceless.
It would be that by this point, it was nightfall and with every few steps the pair would make, the darker it would get. Just when you would think it couldn’t get any darker in this forest, the light would diminish further. Rin would take a hold of Ranth’s arm and lead him about. “It’s easy to get lost so you must stay close to me. If you get lost, you can try to listen for me.” She shook her free wrist and the jewelry that hung from her hips, allowing a faint jingle to ring. She wasn’t the most quiet person, but she was the prettiest. That was what really mattered at the end of the day.
In the distance, Ranth would start to hear the deafening beating of his own heart once more. This coupled with the darkness was bound to instill some sort of insanity.. and if it didn’t, the sudden appearance of yellow eyes littering the forest around them would. Rather than sizing down the pair, the star of the night was none other than Ranth himself. ’One of us’ he’d hear. The various chants and whispers of whatever it was would recognize Ranth as his own and Rin would disappear from his sight momentarily until the sound of something being pierced and the dripping of blood. The splattering of the viscous fluid falling to the ground. Ranth could look at himself to see if it was him again, but it wasn’t. Upon closer inspection, he’d see red silks and gold jewelry faintly ringing, all dulled by droplets of blood that painted most of her body from the chest down. It wasn’t Ranth, it was Rin.
It was yet another sighting of the same white humanoid monster and his hands through his mighty Empress. The sounds of bones breaking and her gasping for life which was quickly fading would reach Ranth’s ears at an intense volume. The same monster seemed busy for the moment, handling her before slipping his hand out with ease and shaking it as if too rid itself of her blood.. Upon closer inspection, the monster turned with the same cheshire grin as before and he would see that this monster looked very similar to himself. The smell of blood was real. The eyes and the snapping of twigs and brush around him was all very real. It was real. Real. Real. Real. Re—
“At last! Salvation.”
Rin’s voice would cut through the silence at the sight of a dark cabin that sat in a small clearing of this forest. It was clear it was a hallucination, but the smell of blood was still very real. However, if Ranth chose to look around, it would be useless in this dark. The smell of blood still hung in the air and if he tried to look, the eyes would fade in and out of existence. Through one of the windows, he’d see the faint glimpse of something familiar, white and iridescent passing by. As for Rin? Well, she was already much further ahead, making her way into the same house where he’d seen that thing lurking.
