-Basic Information-
Name: Meishu Rokuro
Age of Death: 16
Real Age/Age of Appearance: 76/21
Birthday (Month/Day): 4/24
Blood Type: O-
RP Sample (Optional): [Insert Here]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Appearance-
Height/Weight: 6’2”/206 pounds
Physical Description: Compared to the colorful cast of characters that Soul Society is known for, Rokuro doesn’t really stand out. He is slightly taller than some of his colleagues, and is fairly built from his training to get to his position. The rest of him is fairly plain in comparison. He definitely gets overshadowed by others appearance-wise, especially his own captain, but there are a few features about him that certainly pick him apart from an average everyman.
He has light brown hair that he keeps slicked back, revealing an ever-so-slightly receding hairline. He spends quite a bit of time in the morning making sure his hair is exactly the way he wants it. Most of the time, one single strand of hair will fall out of place over his forehead. Rokuro usually just passes this off as a style choice. A glance behind that strand of hair will reveal a sizable scar that he received in a great battle. Occasionally, he will either forget to slick his hair back or it will fall back into place in battle, causing it to fall over his entire forehead and stop at his eyebrow line. When he’s using his Shikai and his hair isn’t cooperating, he will expend a small bit of Reishi to make the wind blow his hair into its usual position.
Rokuro’s most prominent feature is his piercing green eyes which many people will comment on or notice. They’re almost unnaturally bright, and make it easy to keep eye contact with him. Rokuro has fair skin, and generally takes care of himself, hygiene-wise. He typically keeps a little bit of stubble, as he is either too busy or just doesn’t shave at the right time. He is typically seen wearing his standard issue Shinigami uniform with the Vice Captain’s armband displayed proudly on his shoulder. He also occasionally likes to wear a long scarf over his uniform that helps him better feel the direction and intensity of the wind.
While in the World of the Living, Rokuro’s Gigai is also rather plain in terms of fashion sense. He wears a green t-shirt underneath a gray hooded sweatshirt. He also totes loose fitting jeans and black tennis shoes. Other than that, he looks exactly the same as he does while in Soul Society. Compared to humans, he tends to stand out more than he would in Seireitei, as he’s pretty tall and muscular by human standards. He once tried to do a mission while doubling as a high school student, which didn’t work out very well.
Rokuro’s reiatsu is a translucent green that appears when he charges up to use his Bankai or other spiritual techniques. It gives off the impression of wind whenever he uses it, and the very wind itself seems to react in certain ways, mostly due to how his Zanpakuto works.

-Personality-
Dislikes: Small Talk: Never just talk to Rokuro about the weather or anything that is just meaningless banter. You will either get short, sarcastic responses, or ignored entirely. Rokuro also has a strong aversion to introducing himself to multiple people over and over again, so if too many people are meeting each other for the first time, he’ll either stay totally silent or just leave.
Large Crowds: Rokuro can get lost rather easily in crowds, and hates the feeling of being alone in a sea of people. If he has to be in any situation, he’d love to have the Captain with him, as he’s too big to miss in crowds.
People from the Royal Families: While there could probably be exceptions out there to this rule, Rokuro has never been a fan of Kuchiki’s or people from similar families. To him, it always seemed like they had everything easy in life, whereas people like him had to struggle to get where they are now.
Hollows: Before becoming a Shinigami, Rokuro witnessed many people in Rukongai get attacked and killed by Hollows and slowly grew an intense hatred for the creatures. When he sees one, he’ll normally attack on sight, almost like it’s his job or something.
Heat: Rokuro hates getting sweaty, and heat is a big creator of sweat. Transitive property, people.
Being Alone: The last time Rokuro was left alone for an extended period of time, he quite literally died. That’s not to say he needs to be with someone at all times anymore, as that was a previous life, but it’s still good to have someone at least available in case he needs.
Violence: While Rokuro is no stranger to combat, it’s not his favorite thing in the world. Fighting purely to kill is not something he would do, and he prefers to have a purpose for fighting, be it friendly sparring or out of necessity.
Likes: Music: Rokuro loves any and all music, and will listen to it endlessly. There are a few genres that he’s not super into, but he can still appreciate the artistry of it all.
Making Friends: As bad as Rokuro is at small talk, he still yearns for companionship. He does like to have some friends among his colleagues that he can hang out with and talk to when work gets too stale.
Alcohol: This is kind of a new thing for Rokuro, but it was inevitable considering who his Captain is. Rokuro is no alcoholic by any stretch, but does enjoy going out with the Captain and his buddies for drinks. People are starting to wonder if Captain Souretsu is a negative influence on the young man, as he’s starting to be seen drinking more often than usual, but this is just baseless rumors.
The World of the Living: Soul Society is a very picturesque place, but something about the World of the Living gets Rokuro all giddy. Maybe it’s the big cities and their aesthetic, but if any opportunity presents itself for him to go to the World of the Living, he’ll take it without hesitation.
Naps: Work in Squad 9 can sometimes get tedious and exhausting. Therefore, Rokuro has quickly discovered the art of power napping, and uses it to great effect.
Cold: Rokuro has a pretty good resistance to cold weather, and can be outside in cold temperatures with normal weather attire without much issue.
Zanpakuto: Rokuro loves talking about weapons, specifically Zanpakuto and their many forms and abilities. He does all he can to stay knowledgeable on the topic, and loves knowing how everyone’s Zanpakuto works.
His Squad: Rokuro takes his job seriously, and as the Vice Captain of Squad 9, he has gained a deep appreciation for the squad and all its members. He loves listening to any concerns that his squad members have and will bring them up to the Captain (on the off-chance that he’s sober). He stays in the barracks for just this reason, as he also thinks it’s good to keep a good relationship with all the squad members.
Puzzles: If Rokuro didn’t like puzzles, then he probably would never had been in Squad 9 to begin with. He has a natural talent for decoding and decrypting things, which is what carried him up to the Vice Captain spot.
Flaws: Subpar Conversationalist: Rokuro can usually at least hold conversation with most people that he knows, but with strangers or people he only knows professionally, he is a disaster to talk to. Constantly forgetting what he was trying to say and not wanting to talk for more than a few minutes at a time are common problems.
ADHD: Rokuro tends to be a bit disorganized and lacks total focus. He also shows signs of impulsivity and hyperactivity, though it seems to come and go in big spurts due to his ever-increasing age.
Lack of Agility: Rokuro is a fairly big individual, and also wields a rather large Zanpakuto when in Shikai form, and while he wields his weapon with precision, speed, and grace for scythe standards, it stands to reason that movement speed is usually not his top priority.
Habits: Trails off in conversation occasionally, struggling to find certain words
Struggles to maintain eye contact
Very Fidgety
Also tends to hum when there is no other noise going on around him, as he hates total silence
Fears: Total Silence: In Rokuro’s previous life, he was left completely alone by someone very dear to him after they had gotten into an argument. After doors were slammed and distance was made, Rokuro stood in that room in total silence for what felt like an eternity. Having been dealing with big depressive episodes in the past, Rokuro finally snapped and committed suicide. The faintest memory of that still lingers with him. He still gets very uncomfortable in complete silence, when the only thing one can hear is the blood rushing in their ears.
Goals: To Out-drink Captain Souretsu: This will probably never happen, but it’s funny to watch Rokuro try and fail to drink more than his Captain. Nights where that happens are sure to end either very well or extremely poorly.
To Enjoy Every Day: This sounds cliché, but Rokuro really likes to stick to this as well as he can. Too often can one get stuck in the same day-to-day routine, and remembering to take time for oneself is essential to not letting life consume you.
To Achieve Bankai: The ultimate goal of any Shinigami, naturally Rokuro would want to be as strong as he possibly could be. No matter how long it takes, Rokuro will do anything in his power to achieve his most powerful Release.
To Fight a Certain Arrancar: While on a mission in Hueco Mundo, Rokuro nearly met his end to a powerful Arrancar, who spared his life for reasons unknown. Once he becomes much stronger, Rokuro wishes to return to Hueco Mundo and seek out this certain Arrancar. Whether it is to exact revenge for the comrades that were killed on that mission, or just to discover why he was spared that day, the reason is only known to Rokuro.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Overall Personality: Rokuro’s personality isn’t always apparent on first impression. He will initially act extremely reserved around those he doesn’t know very well. One would be lucky to get more than a minute’s worth of conversation out of him on the first meeting. Upon subsequent encounters, he will start to open up bit by bit until his true colors really shine.
Once you get to know Rokuro, he’s a joy to be around. He’ll almost always greet you with a smile. He still tends to be rather quiet in most situations. His sense of humor is very subtle and dry, and that seems to be very polarizing, but no one can stay mad at the big guy for too long.
Rokuro will do everything in his power to make sure those around him are happy, even if that means costing him his own happiness. More often than not, he can be seen doing extra work while the Captain is off drinking or doing his other various activities, but Rokuro doesn’t seem to mind particularly.
Intellectually, Rokuro is very bright. As the Vice Captain of Squad 9, he can decode and puzzle out things nearly on the same level as his Captain. He’s managed to make a big name for himself due to this, and is actually the reason he was even offered the position in the first place. There are very few things that he can’t solve, and lots of people come to him for help, since they feel like they can take him more seriously. For everything else that Rokuro can’t do, there’s always the Captain and his insane drunken luck.
Behind Rokuro’s cheery exterior lies a bit of a tormented soul. He struggled with depression in his past life and ended up taking his own life at a fairly young age. Though he doesn’t remember the exact specifics, the feeling of regret still lingers, and it sometimes can cause him a great deal of grief. A big part of why he took up drinking with the Captain was to escape from all these negative thoughts so he could continue living a happier life.
It's very hard to get Rokuro legitimately angry. He is typically a very patient person, and is very flexible and willing to work with most anyone. In fact, he is so laid-back that no one that even knows him personally knows of a time when he was terribly angry. The only time Rokuro will become enraged will be when he experiences losses that could be prevented. If Rokuro becomes angry at someone for any other reason, it will be a momentous occasion, but also a fearful one.
Rokuro is bisexual, but hasn’t discovered it yet. This is mostly due to the fact that he is completely clueless when it comes to romantic things. People that flirt with him are usually treated as if it’s all totally normal conversation. That holds true until Rokuro gets some alcohol in him.
Drunk Rokuro does a near heel-face turn from his sober counterpart. He becomes very outspoken and loud. Romantic cues are also not lost on him at all. Occasionally, he will even be the one to become a bit flirtatious. His fuse becomes a little bit shorter, but he does his best to retain a pleasant vibe for those around him. Unlike his Captain, though, Drunk Rokuro is completely inept at doing his decoding work.

-Powers-
Fighting Style: Rokuro doesn’t fight very often, but he is very skilled when he does decide to step into the fray. He keeps himself knowledgeable in most forms of combat, but does hold special preference to just using his Zanpakuto. Due to the nature of his weapon, he does well in mid to long range combat, keeping opponents out with hefty scythe swings. When close range combat is necessary, he’ll stick to his Sealed form and strictly fight using standard swordplay learned at the academy, along with his average knowledge of Kido.
When he’s able to use his Shikai, Rokuro jumps at the opportunity, as it’s his favorite part of being a Shinigami. He uses the ability of his weapon to his advantage, using the intensity and direction of the wind to make his strikes as speedy and potent as possible. Once he starts getting set up, he does a good job of keeping opponents out of point-blank range, but his defense is not totally impregnable. If someone does manage to get into his range, he does struggle to come up with a counter strategy. Since he needs both arms to wield Shagamai, he doesn’t tend to use Kido.
While in Bankai, Rokuro barely needs to move from a stationary position. With up to six weapons surrounding him at any given time, his defensive capabilities are greatly improved as well as his offense. He can typically get by with just simple hand movements to get more use out of his Bankai’s abilities, but his mobility is increased if the need arises. He doesn’t see the need for Kido while in Bankai, as the form tends to be versatile enough on its own.
If unarmed, Rokuro can still fight, albeit not as well. He does have Kido knowledge, and shows very slight proficiency in Hakuda combat, but a lot of his Hakuda skill is fabricated purely by his size. He also doesn’t excel in movement speed. He does have a good understanding of Flash Step, but can’t use it as proficiently as some of his peers. He travels shorter distances with it to great effect, but going longer distances takes more energy out of him.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance:
Inner World: Rokuro’s Inner World is very strange in terms of scale. Rokuro and the spirit of Shagamai appear standing on a seemingly giant leaf in the middle of an even larger jungle, lit up only by the light of the moon. But, is the jungle just really big? Or is Rokuro just too small inside his own Inner World?
Zanpakutou Appearances: Sealed: When sealed, Shagamai resembles the bog-standard Asauchi wielded by all Shinigami. The hilt is green and wrapped by black and white cloth, and the guard has four scythe blades jutting out of the handle, and has images of lotuses on it.
Shikai:
Upon its release command, Shagamai extends into its true form, a single-bladed scythe. It is just slightly taller than Rokuro himself. The scythe looks pretty standard, but its uniqueness lies in the green ribbons that stream from the shorter edge of the blade. These ribbons match Rokuro’s piercing eyes and help determine wind direction for Rokuro, and will typically wrap themselves around the handle when not in use.
Bankai: Rokuro’s Bankai is essentially formless. Upon activation, Shagamai disappears in a gust of air and Rokuro appears to be completely disarmed. After a moment, however, the very air around him begins to churn until six small tornadoes begin to form around him, revealing up to six translucent green copies of Shagamai. These scythes can float around in the air and seem to even be acting on their own.
Zanpakutou Release Names(Include both Shikai and Bankai names, and call out phrases) Pray, Shagamai! (Shadow Mantis)/Bankai! Bōryoku Shagamai! (Gale Force Shadow Mantis)
Overall Ability: Shagamai is a wind-based elemental Zanpakuto. Its general ability allows Rokuro to manipulate the wind around him.
Shikai Overall Ability: While in Shikai, Rokuro can use Shagamai to control the direction of the wind and its intensity. It’s a relatively simple ability, but what makes it ingenious is the execution. Rokuro will typically direct the wind to travel in the direction that he swings the scythe. This increases the power and speed of his moves by quite a bit. Conversely, he can also cause a strong headwind to blow into an opponent’s body and blade, causing them to work harder to make certain strikes.
Rokuro can also use his Zanpakuto in other ways. By infusing reishi into the blade, he can create projectiles made of wind that he can fire at enemies for a form of ranged combat.
Bankai Overall Ability: Once Rokuro achieves Bankai, his control over wind is fine-tuned even further.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
-Manchi Teikatsu (Mantis Cyclone): Rokuro spins Shagamai above his head at a high velocity, using the wind to speed up its rotation. This causes a cyclone to form around Rokuro, making it harder for enemies to approach him and attack. This attack’s weakness lies in its slow startup, where Rokuro is vulnerable to strikes if he doesn’t have ample time to prepare. Reiatsu Cost: 100
-Kukitama (Air Ball): Rokuro can create large balls of wind that home in on opponents and deal a fair bit of damage. The main drawback to this technique is that it’s terribly slow. Even though it homes in on opponents, they should have no trouble avoiding it, though it then becomes a game of endurance. Reiatsu Cost: 200
-Kazekama (Wind Sickle): Rokuro condenses his reiatsu into Shagamai and swipes, causing a wind-based projectile to shoot out towards the opponent. This is a pretty basic projectile technique, so it’s not particularly strong. Reiatsu Cost: 150

-Levitation: When in Bankai form, Rokuro is able to use the wind to float off the ground without the use of reishi platforms, thereby costing him less reiatsu in the long run and helping him move a little bit quicker and with more control. Reiatsu Cost:
-Roku no Kamikaze (Six Divine Winds): This is a more advanced version of Manchi Teikatsu that utilizes all six of Boryoku Shagamai’s scythes. It has a wider area, and is more powerful, but takes just as long to start up, and costs more reiatsu. Reiatsu Cost: 300
-Dainana Kamikaze: Ryu no Kokyu (Seventh Divine Wind: Breath of the Dragon): All six scythes of Boryoku Shagamai come together and form a giant dragon made of wind. The dragon will hang around for one turn, protecting Rokuro, and on its second turn will charge straight at the enemy with a violent explosion. This attack deals massive damage, but is very draining. Using this technique will use up Rokuro’s Bankai, causing him to go back to his Sealed form. Reiatsu Cost: 500

Other Techniques:
Birthplace: Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, Japan
Current Residence: Squad 9 Barracks
Memorable Figures: 1. Megumi Fujita
2. Raion Souretsu
3. Unnamed Arrancar
History: Rokuro, named Kenji Fujita in his past life, was born in the Shibuya Ward of Tokyo to his single mother, Megumi. The product of a broken condom and a runaway father, Kenji was destined for failure from the moment he was born, or so it seemed. Against all better judgement and odds, Megumi decided to keep the child and raise him the best she could. Fighting the odds seemed to be the theme of the Fujita’s life, and that’s just what they did for sixteen years.
After some time, things on the surface looked good for the Fujita family. Megumi had a steady job as a nurse at a local hospital. Kenji had excellent grades in school and a budding career as a musician to look forward to. However, behind closed doors things were not as cheery as they seemed. Megumi had always held ridiculous expectations for her son, and as such was only happy with perfection. On the other hand, Kenji harbored a slight resentment for his mother for never telling him about his father and her lofty, unreasonable expectations.
All this tension came to a head during Kenji’s second year in high school. After ever-present expectations and crippling depression began to weigh on Kenji, his grades began to slip and he lost his passion for anything. Not knowing the situation, Megumi became very upset and verbally assaulted Kenji, telling him that if he kept, “slacking off,” that he would never amount to anything in life. After a very one-sided, yet heated, discussion on the matter that never resolved any of the long-standing issues, Megumi stormed out of their home to run some errands, but not before taking away any form of communication Kenji would be able to have with anyone else. Kenji was left alone in total silence, unable to do anything or bring himself to provide himself a distraction.
The silence was mind-numbing. He had never felt anything like it. Kenji wanted to just scream and get some activity in his ears, but he couldn’t bring himself to do anything. He felt nothing in that moment; he was truly numb. Perhaps it was a lapse in judgement that caused him to do what he did, or he had finally just snapped after all those years, but in that moment, he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slit his own throat. He was dead before his mother had even returned home, but he still saw her reaction as a lost soul. Filled with immediate regret, he wished nothing more than to stay there and watch over his distraught mother who had just lost her whole world. After some time, a Soul Reaper came to perform Konso on him. In his final moments before passing on, he was allowed to give a sign to his mother that he would be at peace from then on.
Upon passing to the Soul Society, most all of Kenji’s memories from his life were gone, and he took on the new name of Rokuro Meishu. Rokuro was born in a high-numbered District of Rukongai, meaning his life was a bit of a struggle. However, that didn’t seem to bother the newcomer to Soul Society, as something deep within his soul knew that this wasn’t anything new. For a while, Rokuro lived alone on the outer districts, doing what he could to get by. He took on whatever job was available to him at the time, and figured his existence would be a very insignificant one, doomed to the lower crust of society forever.
One day, while on his travels, Rokuro was attacked by some Hollows. Without a proper way to defend himself, it seemed Rokuro was on his way back out of the Soul Society just as quickly as he had arrived. Fortunately for him, some Shinigami showed up in the nick of time to save the boy and destroy the Hollows. At the head of the group of Shinigami was a giant lion man, who while seeming to be the leader of the group, looked to be incredibly drunk. While a few of the other Shinigami stopped to make sure Rokuro was alright, the boy’s gaze was fixed on the larger beast-man, who made eye contact with him as well. After they left, Rokuro continued on to his destination, but that encounter stuck with him for some time.
After a few weeks of consideration, Rokuro decided to make the long trek to the Seireitei in order to become a Shinigami like those men and women that had saved him that day. He also wanted to find the beast-man once more and thank him properly. The journey was long and arduous, but Rokuro finally made it to Seireitei and enrolled in Shino Academy. As it turned out, Rokuro seemed to have a talent for spiritual powers, and did very well in the Academy. After six long years, Rokuro graduated near the top of his class and was placed in a seated position in Squad 9, the very same Squad that had saved him all that time ago.
It seemed that fate had been on Rokuro’s side all this time, as he was finally able to learn the name of the man that saved him: Raion Souretsu, the Captain of Squad 9. Nearly star-struck, Rokuro wanted nothing more than to meet with and possibly befriend this man. Realizing that getting one-on-one time with the Captain to properly thank him would be difficult without the position to back it up, Rokuro decided that the best course of action would be to climb the ranks and become the Vice Captain of Squad 9. So, over the course of the next 40 years, Rokuro trained as hard as he could in both combat and his Squad work to climb up the ranks and get noticed by Raion.
The amount of work Rokuro took on would be considered extremely unhealthy by any normal standards, but his ambition and drive to rise through the ranks was unlike any other. The young up-and-comer hardly took time to eat or sleep between studying decryption and encoding. When he wasn’t doing that, he was continuing his training with his Zanpakuto. Anyone worth their salt in the Seireitei was handy with their weapon, so Rokuro trained passionately to earn his Shikai.
After several years, Rokuro started to receive more and more important missions. One day, he was personally selected by the Captain to represent Squad 9 on a mission to Hueco Mundo. Jumping at the chance to prove his worth, he set off on what was originally intended to be a stealthy reconnaissance mission. There were seven Soul Reapers sent on this mission, each from a different Squad. Rokuro was chosen because of his prowess in decoding enemy communications, and his main mission was to relay any important information to Squad 6 back in Seireitei.
The mission seemed to be going well until the team was attacked by a group of Arrancar who had detected their presence near Las Noches, the gigantic palace of Hueco Mundo. One by one, the Soul Reapers, who were taken by surprise, were wiped out. The only survivor was Rokuro, who unlocked his Shikai (Shagamai) in a moment of desperation against a crow-like female Arrancar. Noticing his sudden surge in power, the Arrancar spared him, leaving him to die alone in the sands of Hueco Mundo until the other Arrancar had left. Luckily, Squad 6 had mobilized to recover any survivors, and managed to get Rokuro back to the Soul Society.
Upon his return to the Seireitei, Rokuro fell into a depressive state. He couldn’t figure out why he had been the one that the Arrancar had left alive, and couldn’t help but feel that he was undeserving of such treatment. Doubling down on his work ethic in order to live on for those who died for him, Rokuro became one of Squad 9’s best information dissectors. Finally, feeling that he was ready, he applied for the vacant Vice Captain position. Due to his work in the field and in Seireitei, he was granted the position. Rokuro’s work is not yet done, however. He still has much to learn in the way of combat before he can face his demons. For now, he’s doing his best to enjoy life to the best of his ability.
