After what felt like an eternity spent trapped by the most powerful bakudo known to man, the girl finally stepped back from Ranth- no trace of tears any more but rather the look of a lost puppy that had found its way home. "What are you doing here Ranth?", she asked, more curious than concerned by anything that had happened to her and apparently untroubled by the fact that she didn't seem to know her own name. It was such an innocent, straightforward question that Ranth didn't know how to answer it other than with the honest truth.
This could all have been one big elaborate setup for all he knew, but in the heat of the moment he felt on an almost spiritual level that he could trust her. "I was separated from my friend and I'm worried about her. I need to find a way out of this place so that I can find her and make sure that she's safe", he explained sincerely. At this, the girl placed a ponderous finger to her chin as she tilted her head this way and that. "Friend... Rin is your friend?" She asked after several seconds and Ranth nodded firmly. "Friends are special?" She asked, adopting the pose that Ranth was starting to realise meant she was processing new information. "Can I be your friend too?" She asked hopefully and what else could Ranth do in the face of such sincere innocence? "Of course you can", Ranth couldn't help but smile.
He was expecting the wide eyed smile that this response earned, but what he wasn't expecting was for the girl to spin on her heels and start marching off. "Let's go find Rin! Ranth's special friend!" Cringing with embarrassment, all Ranth could do was chase after her blushing furiously once again. He was starting to realise that he was going to have a lot of explaining to do with this one.
Narth could hardly contain his laughter as Rin stormed off. Ah, what it would be like to still posses that kind of innocence he thought wistfully. Before he could go after her to apologise however, all other sounds were drowned out by a deafening roar that drowned out all other sounds both of Rin's flustered protests and even the sound of the thunder and rain overhead. Springing immediately to his feet, Narth only made it half way before he caught sight of the enormous beast with its purple cape and pants. Its face was curled into a mighty frown as its massive teeth jutted from its mouth and its curved horns glinted in the firelight.
It looked for all the world like a fight was about to break out at any moment and Rin didn't even have her weapon with her. Even Narth had jumped up and ran towards the door without it, how could he be so stupid! Was there time to go back for it? The thing could strike at any moment and he didn't know if Rin was in any condition to fight so soon after eating. What if she got a stitch or her wounds hadn't fully healed? The whole room seemed to teeter in a delicate balance for a moment until a voice cried out in a scolding tone.
"Beast! That is NO way to greet visitors!"
Immediately, the Beast seemed to shrink by almost a foot as it stepped back from Rin and turned to look towards the owner of this new voice, capable of taming such a savage creature with a single stern reprimand. "But Bell, they broke in! They're not guests, they're intruders!" The beast protested, but Bell was clearly having none of that as she strode past him and entered the room where Rin and Narth were now standing uncertainly. "Look at them beast! The poor things are exhausted, hungry and have you seen the weather out there? Who could blame them for coming inside?"
Turning her attention away from Beast- who was now looking thoroughly chastened- the woman known as Bell turned back to them with a soft and caring demeanor radiating from her like some kind of divine angel. "You poor dears, I'm sorry that you received such a poor welcome. Beast isn't very good with his manners, so I hope you can forgive him. My name is Bell and I can see that you've already eaten, but how about I show you to the guest rooms so you can bathe and get changed?"
