[[ooc: happy page 3. kh gives nice inspo]]
Rin was through the gates of her Squad, ready to relax and wash the day off. To reflect and then drink away whatever the hell happened earlier. Seeing the ghosts of her past certainly wasn’t for the faint of heart. She sauntered through the gates, greeting her squad mates, smiling, waving. Doing what an Empress does best~ From one mask to the other, Rin’s mood bounced at the sight of her officers. She gave her best face to the squad mates who greeted her. Indulging in small talk and such. Her work was never done it seems! It was alright though. Her people were here and they truly did need her.{Related lol}
Before she could even think about taking off accessories and crashing into her bed, there was light. A great deal of it. It was highly unnatural and the lieutenant could already tell that there would be no rest. No relaxation. No finding solace today. Rin let out an exasperated sigh. What was sleep anyway? “Lieutenant! Look!” Rin spun and just as a shadowy critter lurched itself towards her, an officer’s zanpakuto sliced through it like butter. It’s body disintegrating into nothing more than ash and smoke. With that, her nodachi was drawn. “Assemble! Stand your ground, Squad 7! You will cut down every last one of them.” The Empresses voice echoed ferociously throughout the Squad as she rallied her men to protect their home.
She would allow her squad members to deal with the first wave of wretches. They were strong. They dealt with it fairly quickly and it was expected. She personally trained them and she was entirely faithful that they would not fall. Not to these things. Rin’s eyes trained on the shadows that seemed to appear from out of nowhere and then in the sky, a ball of shadowy darkness. It loomed over Squad 4 and the rest of Seireitei with sparks of dark energy crackling around it every so often. Squad 4… Squad 4!!!! Genuine fear struck Rin before she dashed off to him.
“I need to get to Squad 4. Will you be alright?” Rin occasionally swinging at the shadow creatures appearing. She could hear someone’s kido going off in the background, sending quite the shockwave throughout the barracks. “What do you think, lieutenant?” At this, she shared one last smile with one of her officers before taking off, batting away whatever was in her way. To travel from Squad 4 only to go back there again. It was quite a pain, ne~? Was it wrong that a minor part of her enjoyed this? The idea of cutting down such mindless beings by the dozens? The more bloodthirsty sides of her personality spoke to her in volumes.
Within a few feet from the entrance of Squad 7, Rin’s nodachi found a line of these creatures in front of her. It was like she was in a trance. Moving and acting purely on her instinct as she cut them down with ease. From there, she sprung into action, never stopping her run. For every creature on her way, she twirled and cleaved through them with terrifying grace. Her heart beat wildly as she fought. She could see shinigami beside her, fending off the creatures. Some having luck, others not so much. She was running as fast as she could. There was no time to stop and think about what happened or why. No time to ponder.
Her body felt like it was on autopilot as she slashed and as she neared Squad 4, the shadows seemed to come in hordes. What they did on their mission had to be connected to the chaos going on. Thoughts flashed back to Ranth and his glowing state to him being unconscious in the field. She cursed herself mentally for she was careless in assuming he would be fine. She should’ve stayed with him. There were shadows that surrounded one individual who lay flat on the ground, wounded. Rin jumped, landing beside the wounded man and spun a full 360, turning all that surrounded her into nothing but smoke and fading darkness. She could hear him groaning and she pulled him to his feet. “Get to Squad 7. Quickly!” She pointed him in the right direction and left him. Rin hoped her Squad wasn't being enveloped by these shadows like he almost was. When she looked ahead, she could see it. She was close. So close.
It looked like a sea of darkness. Just rolling and moving in waves and blocking her way into the Squad. These vermin. How dare they pollute Seireitei with their filth? Especially when she had more pressing matters. To fight through them would be a nuisance. She felt one attach on to her leg and then five, ten, twenty. The weight of this darkness was disgusting to her. Fury ran hot through her veins at the thought of being piled by these things. Rin tried to move but instead found herself being anchored by these shadows. “Get off.” Her voice was low but she showed tremendous anger. There were too many. “I said get off.” However, this was not the extent of the Vice Captain’s power and so her pressure came crashing down on everything around her. Dark crimson reiatsu flared around her body as she crushed them all to death. There was nothing in her way now. Nothing but the dissipating darkness.
Rin ran through the halls, turning corners and going through rooms. It was empty. Where was everyone in Squad 4? Was this entire building empty? There was ash and dust strewn about. It littered the hallways and various rooms. Were these remains? “Ranth!” The Empress called out, in hopes that he would be conscious. "You can't die... You are not even lieutenant yet. You simply cannot die." She arrived at the door but hesitated for a moment. Thoughts of the young officer death plagued her. She'd known him for just a day and already she was hoping to see him go far. It was natural to her for some reason. It would be unfair. It wouldn't be right. She would refuse it if she could. He was sent on a mission that was above his head by his foolish "superior" and he would pay the price for it. The only different between their situations was that she would make it to tell the tale. Shaking off her hesitation, she entered his room.
