Thread Title: No One Expects The Shinigami Inquisition Participants: Zaluu Sar, Hikari Kuchiki [Angel] World: Human World Death Setting: Non Death Enabled Rating: R Location: This battle takes place on the rooftops of Karakura and within the general shopping district. There are a number of tall buildings of various heights as well as cover such as but not limited to water towers, billboard signs, etc. The battle takes place in the early night when most civilian onlookers are asleep, or the streets are busy with those driving to their own devices. Special Conditions: N/A Circumstances: Angel has been assigned to Soul Society to attempt to destroy a Mod Soul that has been gaining reputation lately known as Zaluu Sar. She is to completely destroy the mod soul if possible. To aid with this, Angel has been given a small tracking device that may locate the general idea of Mod Souls, but has broken down upon finding her target. While for Angel it is an extermination mission, for Zaluu it is likely a mission of survival.
"Crimson Tears, Veins of Blood, Born From Blood, Die From Blood, Back to Blood."
Hikari Kuchiki, also known as Angel had found it was one of those rare times that she’d be entering the human world. As a member of Squad 7, she had found it recently her duty to be guarding the Rukongai from the rising Hollow threat, especially considering the fact that there has been a rise of aggressiveness and larger numbers of them to deal with. This was a rare occurrence for the Shinigami. Her assignment though was something that she hadn’t quite expected. There was news of a spiritually popular being as of late, a Mod Soul that went by Zaluu. Mod Souls were, based off what little she knew about them, failed experiments of the research division to make soldiers out of corpses meant to replace Shinigami. They were unstable and usually had some form of defect that made them dangerous to the populace.
They needed to be eliminated, at least those were the orders she received. They were not even living beings by definitions, simply spiritual forms possessing a medium through pills. So, now within Karakura, she waited in lie. She was dressed much like a schoolgirl in the Karakura Middle School, however this was only the gigai she was occupying while waiting for the modsoul to appear. For the past few days, she had been a student in the day, Shinigami by the night. Well, this was one of those times. Reaching into her pocket, she took out what appeared to be a duck head candy dispenser. “Down the hatch.”
Popping in a small yellow candy, there was a burst of spiritual power, allowing her soul to pop out from the hollow shell she called a body for the past few days. The schoolgirl gigai seemed disoriented for a few moments before Angel called out. “You know what you must do. Take care of yourself for me while I’m gone.” A nod as the mirror image of her body gave a mock salute. “Of course emo. Not much you call me for other than that anyways...” The personality inhabiting the gigai was a bit of an emo loner that spent time reading, studying, and drinking legitimately all the fluids in the fucking fridge. Well, with that Angel hopped out the window.
Using the airground, walking up to a high rooftop, she took out a little handy dandy tracking device given to her by Squad 12 for this mission. An experimental device that was supposed to be able to track the general direction of a Mod Soul within a range of a mile. Now, to say that this device worked out not was questionable. No scans had come up ever since she came, and while hopping from rooftop to rooftop, she finally found something. Beep, beep, beep. A blip appeared on the phone like device, and widening her eyes, Angel quickly went to follow it. Drawing her Zanpakutou, the black haired child was ready for confrontation. On the way, she’d prepare a chant for when she would meet her foe face to face. Based on observation, they were on the same elevation?
“Arise god of thunder. Awake mother of storms. Unleash the lightning on the sinners.” Her left hand held her three foot long katana tight. Her left was prepared to launch her Kido when needed. This was a mission of lethal force, not for capturing and detaining. While a bit foreign to her, she had a job to do. Normally Squad 2 should be dealing with this sort of work, but she didn’t question why she was given a task. Her job was to follow orders, not think about why those orders existed. However, there was one thing that Angel had to be at this moment. Cautious. Mod Souls were able to escape Soul Society’s extermination this long for a reason. Likely, they were no joke.
Knowing little to nothing about the mod soul population, she was going to keep her guard up. The knowledge she had was trivial. She knew that their bodies were nothing more than gigai which they occupied, and that they could possess other bodies as well, albeit it must be through ingestion. To underestimate this foe could lead to a very costly loss for herself. Yet, Shikai was something that was meant to be held in reserve. Things needed to be considered here. Well...she's been getting stronger lately. Surely they wouldn't send her on this mission if they thought it was impossible for her to accomplish. "Ikuzo." Angel whispered out to herself, getting closer and closer to her opponent.

She felt a little strange these last two days. She had been trying to keep her head in the game as of late, what with Luke and Aura insisting on various forms of training. She couldn't help but let out a soft little sigh as she stood on that rooftop, running her fingers through those bright pink locks, smoothing it back as, for that rare nonexistant audience, she let her hair down, those gentle wavy tresses washing down her shoulders as gentle purple hues scanned the city below.
She hated this fucking City. How many times had she almost died here? How many people had vanished around this crazy place? But... it's where she made most of her money. Or rather where the club made most of it's money. She couldn't help but look down to the streets below, feeling as if every single human that walked could potentially be an enemy. Not very inaccurate given how many spirituals liked to hang around Karakura. She was so upset....
But that wasn't the worst of it. She had actually been trying to relax these past few days, put a load off, maybe get more familiar with other things going on in her life. But the biggest fucking issue as of late had been her goddamn info network. Because something had been popping up that she had hoped never would. A name being thrown around that she didn't go by, but one that had all sorts of meaning to her, even if she never allowed it to show on her face:
Zaluu.
She never used that name. But because of some of her informants, some creeps had been caught asking about it. She had been asked if she knew about them, but she kept that to herself. She went by Taka for a reason, to keep herself out from soul society's radar. If it was showing up, then that meant that soul society was sticking it's nose into her business. Her gaze drifted back up and she began looking around. It was that glinting blade that finally caught her eye.
The sight of a shinigami heading her way. A sight that had the hairs at the back of her neck raising when she noticed them beelining right for her. Even from this distance, she could see....something. She didn't see the device itself, but she DID see the shinigami glancing down now and then, only to correct her course. She was tracking Taka. That spelled bad news for her, and a shiver ran up her spine. She had been neglecting her training. Ever since Luke and her had clashed, she had sortof...slacked off.
But this? This was a bad reminder. Her body was still so soft and weak. Her instincts, her senses. She was all too aware of how vulnerable she was, that any shinigami with proper training would no doubt have a field day with her. And that was not good. HEr body still didn't move like she wanted it to, and she knew she was going to have to fix that. As quickly as she fucking could manage. She felt...pathetic. And with the sight of that shinigami almost on her ass, she had to admit, the excuses not to get back to training ran out.
"Moddo Ne." She murmured, arbitrarily deciding to use the technique by it's name, even though that noise would be the last thing Angel heard from her, as she did two things. First, she avtivated mod root. Those invisible little extensions of her soul spilling out into her surroundings, filling the air within four meters of her body with her roots. That alone was a sensory net, a space filled with her 'essence', what was essentially her body, and ensuring that anything within that space was able to be sensed by her, as if it was touching her.
Ontop of that, she activated her special ability. Shine Sar. In an instant, she vanished from sight. From Sound. A thin film of energy over her body that trapped any sound or light that escaped from her body, and then bending the light and sound of her surroundings around her body, completely camouflaging her from the shinigami. But of course, that scanner would show she was still there. Though it would probably have nowhere near the sensitivity to show her exact location.
When Angel moved in, coming in and no doubt aiming to land on the rooftop, Zaluu stepped in beside her. The shinigami would not even be able to feel Zaluu there. So when Taka turned off the safety of everything except her feet, that 'net' of roots in a 12 foot radius around her suddenly began burning, the full force of her spiritual power completely obliterated the surrounding rooftop, shaving two inches off of the concrete as, additionally, that network of invisible trapped light and sound would begin burning into Angel's body.
Of course, that web didn't give off any heat, all of that was trapped inside of the film. Zaluu wanted to scare the shinigami, conserve her own energy as that burning would no doubt begin charring and burning lines in the pattern of veins along the woman's skin, even that scanner would be something that Zaluu tried to focus on, moving that net to burn through the device and destroy iy. Before just as suddenly, that burning would stop, and Zaluu would stand very still, eyes focused, walking slowly, silently, along the roof to ensure that she didn't stay in the same place.
Who was this woman? She didn't know all that much about the shinigami squads. Truth be told, she did her best to try and ignore all of that crap. But the fact of the matter was that she was after her. And had some sort of device capable of tracking her. She hoped it was broken from that sudden wave of her ability, but it had been a risky move. If the girl was smart, there were ways of finding out where she was, tracking her when she unleashed her burning ability. She hoped this shinigami was stupid. She didn't want them finding her. This gigai was important to her. The last thing she needed was to have to replace it.

Her target was closer. Yes, the scanner was beeping harder now, getting closer to finding the target. Moddo Ne. That was all she heard as she looked down with her fingers raised to fire upon her target. Yet, as her opponent became camouflaged she skid to a stop. This Mod Soul had the ability to conceal itself from her? Shit…this battle had immediately become quite a bit harder than it would be in a normal face to face confrontation. Hopping to the next roof, she instinctively looked down at the tracker. It was beeping the fastest it had ever gone while in her grasp. She hadn’t realized the Mod Soul was standing right next to her.
Suddenly, there was a burst of spiritual power, ripping into the roof’s concrete, kicking up dust as Angel found herself under an incredible burning sensation. “Uaagh! Aaagh! GAAAH!” She could feel it, so incredibly painful. It was like the burning of fighting a Cero or a Bala. Burn lines appeared on her skin, her body being toasted by this...assault that she couldn’t see. The device which was unknowingly targeted, beeped madly, then short circuited, falling to the floor as a useless device. Then...it stopped. Falling onto her knees, she couldn’t see anything. Her opponent was somewhere. They couldn’t have gone far.
“S-Sho!” Releasing a burst of wind from her hand, now losing the power of her previous incantation, she blew this dust cloud towards the rest of the roof. She’d thought up a little plan. Even if her opponent was invisible, there would be ways to find an opponent. For instance, if looking at the invisible man, when covered in a substance such as paint, or something of that matter, they usually became visible. Even if Zaluu could lock out light and sound from her field, there were ways to test her presence via disturbance of the environment. As the dust blew in the mod soul’s direction, Angel used her eyes to see where there was a disturbance or irregular shape in the cloud. Seeing this was a clear roof, she’d stick out like a sore thumb.
Byakurai. Wordlessly, she shot out her Hado at the Mod Soul’s outline, using her mastery to make it effectively fast. The cloud would disperse soon enough. She had to be fast and efficient with how she used her skill and utilized her brief advantage. Assuming Zaluu had dodged her initial Byakurai, there were three more launched in quick succession in attempt to hit her at least once at any part of her body. All of them were aimed roughly for the abdomen region. Running through the cloud would only make her stick out further, making it easier to aim for her.
At the end of her assault, Angel found it absolutely necessary to bring out her weapon this early. “Cursed Tool Throughout The Ages. Piece Datenshi.” Her sword had morphed, changing in a shroud of darkness, becoming absolutely the same other than the new bandages that seemed to be wrapped around the presence of the handle. This was no joking matter right now. This Mod Soul was dangerous not only to her, but the environment as well. How long until it ended up killing somebody just because it was in the wrong place at the wrong time? Panting from the burning and also from the utter ringing in her ears, she looked left and right. Now...did she hit it?

This was unexpected. That Shinigami all but crumpled in response to her attack, and thaty sudden spell did unleash a wave of dust, though she did not expect that sudden sho, that burst of reiatsu slamming into the ground and kicking up dust. Under normal circumstances this would have been a very clever plan. Zaluu did have a physical body, and she had to concentrate to allow physical materials to simply phase through her body. Those tiny dust particles would have caught her off guard. But she had stayed fairly close to Angel.
When that dust pushed forward, the dust did indeed see a lot of odd shapes. a LOT of them. A huge net of nerve-like branches all over, completely obscuring Zaluu. Especially when she responded. She turned it back on, that dust immediately being sucked up, eaten by her burning lines, consuming mmore and more of the rood and again inflicting another wave of burning sensation all over Angel's body. Only this time, as she tried firing those Byakurai, Zaluu walked up to her from the side, and then reached out and grabbe the woman by the throat. Angel would feel it.
It would be incredibly difficult to evade the burning hand print which would no doubt be branded upon Angel's throat as Zaluu took in more and more energy, adding to the layer of armor that was concentrated into that film covering her body. She was taking a risk. even though she was incredibly hard to see, the grip would be a clue, and Angel was very close, she had even unleashed her shikai. She had no idea what it's ability was, so she had to end this as quickly as she could.
She squeezed, trying to burn her way through, hoping to apply enough pain so that she could reach in, planting her other palm along the shinigami's navel, burning easily through the shirt before attempting to bury her other hand into the woman's stomach to inflict a greivous wound on them, one that would be instantly cauterized by her ability, but she didn't care. She intended on taking the woman out here and then. After all, Taka was not known for mercy.
IT would take an agonizing ammount of time, but reaching through the shinigami's stomache, if allowed to, she would go deeper and deeper until she could get a hold of the woman's spine, wrap her fingers around it, and then attempt to burn completely through it, intent on paralyzing the woman as wella s inflicting a considerable ammount of agony, even as her mod root burned the rest of the woman's skin and hair. All the while, she kept her eyes locked onto Angel's face, even if Angel couldn't see her, or hear her, she still snarled softly, knowing the sound would never leave that thin layer covering her lips.
Words that would never be heard... but that didn't mean she didn't mean them. "I suppose I should kill you. But I think finding out just how you knew where I was is much more important." OF course, she could probably kill the shinigami given enough time. But she had a lot of questions. A lot of things that needed answering. The dust had probably lasted all of a few seconds before her roots finished sucking them up, and now more of the upper section of the roof was being eaten into. She couldn't stop this time.
She didn't even have any step techniques. She couldn't afford to stop and give the shinigami the opportunity to attack. It was bad enough that she was so very close to the shinigami and their zanpaku'to, but she also was well within range of a kido attack if Angel tried to hit her with one of those. She had to be so very very careful now. She just needed to be...steady. No mistakes. No slip-ups. Hopefully, IF she managed to paralyze the woman, that would be enough to drag her to the club right? That was also going to be an issue. But it was necessary, especially if she wanted ot be left alone.

Getting into a close combat confrontation with Angel was definitely a bad idea for Zaluu. Yes, the burning had hurt her again, but the knowledge she had gained from it was invaluable. She could see the long thin roots, but also if Zaluu was getting closer to her, then that was all the more her advantage. This time prepared for the burning, watching as they swallowed the dust floating in the air, she grit her teeth, feeling several more paining lines appear before her. Yet, she wasn’t entirely prepared for what came next. With a burning hand suddenly grasping her throat, she could realize it. Even if she couldn’t see it, she could feel what a hand was like. The burning was there only for a moment or two before Angel made use of her Hakuda upon her identified target. There was a yell of pain as she did though. IT WAS HOT!
Grasping Zaluu’s wrist with her free arm, she shoved forward, leaning into her before pushing back and flipping the Mod Soul over Angel’s shoulder onto her back on the already damaged roof. With the Mod Soul’s arm now within her hand, Angel stomped her foot right down upon Zaluu’s shoulder, yanking out as hard as she could do essentially dislocate her arm. She wasn’t letting go for anything now that she had her opponent in her hands. Angel’s blade was not idle though. Pointed at Zaluu, the blade suddenly shot out four bullets at her, ethereal yet physical bullets. They’d react with her clothes, ignoring their protective layer and if her moves were successful would deal some serious damage.
They’d slam into her body at the speed of 800, clashing right against her stomach and rib region. If she could kill Zaluu faster than she could burn to death, then in theory, Angel would win. The Shikai’s bullets had the ability to ignore physical matter up to one layer that could stop it’s swings, then strike beneath it while the first is tangible. So, for instance, if Angel were to hit Zaluu right now with her sword, she’d get hit twice. One would hit her normally, and another would hit her as if her clothes didn’t exist. Much like how her bullets were doing now. Well, now Angel was delivering fast stabs repeatedly, aiming to cripple her opponent as much as possible, possibly end her existence.
The Shikai was clashing repeatedly, this time not using it’s property however. There was no need. Angel’s grasp on the Mod Soul’s free hand would not relent, in fact, she was bending the wrist at an odd angle, hoping to snap that wrist as well. Beating at the invisble woman repeatedly, she’d yell at the burning, only releasing more of her energy and anger for harder strikes. To end the attack, she’d use her overall, spending 100 reiatsu to slam it down upon Zaluu’s stomach region one more time. She was being pounded by a physically astute opponent, at least more than she was. One strike would feel like two being hit in the exact same spot. Had she realized the trick behind it though?
It didn't matter if her hair and skin were burning. She was surely harming the woman far more than she was being hurt now. How much punishments could the armor endure? How much more until she'd relent and release the burning flames? One of them was going to have to stop, and Angel was damn determined not to. She was using a good bit of reiatsu, but that was no problem. She had far more to spare than the already partially drained Zaluu. It was a battle of attrition in this case. Who would win? The Mod Soul or the Shinigami? Only their determined clashing of wills would find out.

Ohfuck. She did not expect the grab onto her arm. Eyes went wide as for all of a moment, she was thrown, slamming onto her back, her armor taking much of the blow, but she was so physically weak that it still hurt, gritting her teeth and crying out, the sound consumed by her ability and keeping her silent as that foot then planted powerfully into her shoulder and she felt a sudden DEEP impact. OH THAT HURT! Her eyes wide as she felt that yank as her arm was promptly dislocated, breathing heavily as she stared up at the shinigami.
But she was blessed. Because the next thing was that blade. she trembled, afraid and undcertain, but once those bullets slammed into her, and that blade jabbed down to her chest, she was...relieved. Those powerful bullets hit her like punches, rocking her body, but the bullets themselves stopped, unable to penetrate the power of her armor. And even more, it was almost double the strength of Angel's own blade, so as that blade stabbed down, almost all of it suddenly vanished, thick chunks burned, cracking, and then dropping off of the main piece of metal as bit by bit, that sword would be burned, and consumed by Zaluu's power. Her armor strong enough that those special blades failed to penetrate.
But even so, she had her shoulder dislocated, and that stomp had takena lot out of her. With a SWIPE, she shoved her hand in, fingers pointed, with that burning armor, she aimed to stab her hand clean through Angel's thigh, intent on getting the woman away from her as Zaluu retracted the roots from her arm, separating her pill from that specific portion of her gigai. She hated this, she hated hated hated it, but with a TWIST, she burned that arm clean off, escaping with a roll away leaving her arm to burn up and go limp in the shinigami's hand. THANKFULLY, once her roots were no longer in the arm, she couldn't feel the pain of it being burned off of her, and the little bit of 'not her body' left on her shoulder that hadn't been severed, simply burned away, consumed into her Shine Sar.
She locked her gaze on Angel, HOPEFULLY, with the woman's zanpaku'to in tatters, as well as hopefully a crippled leg, she would be all but disabled now. This had been a surprise. Shinigami were normally very reliant on their swords. But that bit of martial arts had thrown her for a loop. Not only that, but thankfully she had won the lottery with the woman's powers. Whatever it was, it seemed to be either too weak or just a bad match for her armor. She was lucky the woman hadn't just punched her in the face. And it had cost her an arm. An arm she would have to replace.
She quickly began circling the woman, refusing to stay in one place, and refusing to let up that burning shredding of the woman just from their proximity. The dust was long gone, but she didn't trust that the shinigami didn't have more tricks up her sleeve. Her shoulder still in agony where she had been stomped on. The jkoint that had been dislocated was no longer there, so there was that, but it still hurt, it ....it hurt a lot. Even if her armor hadn't been penetrated, the impact had still hit her torso, no doubt she would be bruised once all of this was over.
But.... she felt like she could still win. she didn't feel hopeless. She didn't feel panicked. She felt sharp, but still on top. She was injured, but so too should that shinigami be messed up. And unlike Zaluu, she couldn't just shed limbs that were damaged. There would be bleeding, and much more pain. Zaluu just needed to stay on her toes and she would win this. She had done a number on that zanpaku'to, justhaving it try to stab her, and she could FEEL that armor hardening on her body, now at full strength, having taken quite a while to get there, but it would be worth it.
Now she just needed to wait, and let the shinigami make the next move.

When she wailed onto the Mod Soul, she knew for sure she had a solid target she was beating at. Yet, as she pounded, she suddenly found her sword was chipping, thus she stopped short. However, it was then that she stabbed down one more time, a red eye had slipped from under the bandages, crawling through the blade, then landing on Zaluu’s body, right around the sternum. It crawled from underneath the bandages, threatening Zaluu as now, she was perfectly visible. It had originally been embroidered into her sword handle, kept under the bandages, but now, it left Zaluu with a mark she could not remove, at least, not unless she’d rip her own skin off. This was where the battle was to be held decisively.
As a burning hand was launched, cutting into her thigh, Angel grunted, the wound already being cauterized. She was able to discern roughly in her mind’s imagination the outline of a body. The eye served as a center point, and it looked left and right rapidly, before looking up. With the sudden loosening, then limpness of the arm she was gripping, she realized she chopped off her own arm! Fascinating. However, if she were to continue moving in circles around Angel, thinking nothing was going to happen, she was dead wrong.
The eye looked upward at Zaluu, in which there was suddenly a light chuckle. ‘I’ve marked you for death little doll. Prepare...to die.’ A chilling voice that seemed ecstatic about death. Suddenly, the eye looked upward for the woman’s chin, shooting a blade that was moving at the speed of 150, extending upward to the point the woman’s head should be unable to bend in such an awkward fashion. In theory, the muscles and neck would pop, neck broken from the fact the blade was extending ten feet and her head can’t lift with the eye’s blade. However, panting and in great pain, Angel yelled out, charging at her marked opponent, Aiming to attack Zalu’s outlined figure, performing a sidestep, then a swerving kick to the back of the knee, causing her to fall on one knee if she were successful. One thing important to mention is that even if her neck was to not pop off, Zaluu would suddenly be weighed down by metal the length of ten feet. With her current strength, that might beyond her capability. Certainly slowing her to say the least.
If successful, she’d slam her face down to the floor with a kick, pinning her skull with her foot. “Bakudo no Ichii:Sai!” The first Bakudo would cause her one remaining arm to lock behind her back, making her unable to fight back effectively like before. Following, Angel had grasped that impossibly long extending blade, twisting it, pulling on it, anything to break this Mod Soul’s neck and snap her to death. However, within time, the blade would sink down into the eye, the eye closing. Though, it would be available again in no more or less 3 posts. Had she done it? Was the creature dead? Was the burning pain worth it? Well, if the burning was continuing obviously not. Thing is, maybe if the Mod Soul pretended, Angel might believe.
In this state, stepping would be difficult, but at least now her opponent was no longer hidden. She could see, albeit not with perfect precision. Her Zanpakutou was incredibly violent, and it loved to kill. This was shown by it's sadistic nature and it was well fit for killing someone swiftly. However, Angel normally kept it suppressed with the bandages. Yet, she did not hear it's madness now. It instead opted to talk with Zaluu instead, having rested on her very body after all. 'Such a cute little soul...but I need to sleep for just a little moment. Don't die yet~ I want to send you to hell personally for hurting my future body.' A sadistic laughter before it turned into a crazed manic one.

That eye was not expected. Perhaps the woman had some sort of idea that Zaluu's body itself was camouflaging. And if it HAd, then the idea would have certainly worked. That eye would have been like a beacon. It would have been able to see Zaluu fairly easily. But that was not how Zaluu's ability worked. As soon as it was etched onto Zaluu's skin, it would vanish from sight. As Zaluu pulled back, that eye would be just as invisible as the rest of her.
And what was more? That eye would be blinded. Zaluu allowed light to be transmitted to her own eye, and additionally she relied on mod root to maintain proximal awareness. But the same did not happen for the rest of her body. All the light that would try to reach that eye, would be bent around Zaluu's body, and so that Eye would see nothing but black, or if it loked to the sides, a BLINDING concentrated light that would BURN it. Because light was trapped. Zaluu's ability was to bend and trap light around her body. So even if that eye locked in place. It would have no idea what part of Zaluu's body it was on.
So when and if Angel charged, she would be going the wrong way, sliding past, missing Zaluu completely. And when that blade slid out. There WAS a slight chance that it would have something to hit. But the fact of the matter was that it wouldn't even get that far. That blade had to go THROUGH Zaluu's barrier of trapped air. And at almost twice the strength of Angel's. Not only did it have to go through the layer of light that covered it, but it would have to try and pierce the layer protecting whatever she managed to luckily aim at. And between them, the blade desintegrated completely,. destroying the hidden blade completely in the process before it even touched the Mod soul's skin.
Even if that Eye screamed. Zaluu's Shine sar did not allow sound to escape her body. So when Zaluu charged at Angel, there would be no warning when she lunged and aimed to plant her fist into the center of the shinigami's chest, fingers only extended slightly as she sought to burrow and burn a hole clean into the shinigami's chest, which unlike her sword, didn't have any durability, so those attacks would plow clean through the woman, just below the ribcage, avoiding vital organs as she sought to end the encounter then and there.
She knew shinigami were durable. She was going to break this girl's spine, and then she was going to call for someone to come and pick the both of them up. She just needed to take this sucker down.

Okay...so that plan had failed. Her blade just ended up leaving an eye that was completely invisible to her eye. Yet, that brought her an idea. A trap card to play so she could avoid getting her lifepoints taken out. Upon seeing her eye didn’t work, she didn’t charge. That was...a major mistake of hers. However, she instead opted to do something absolutely new to this Mod Soul. Stabbing her Shikai into the ground, Angel stood for just a minute, proceeding to sink through the floor. As long as her blade was inside of the floor, it was essentially intangible, thus she sank through it with ease. At least within a small radius. That would quickly put off any assaults the Mod Soul would be having surely. However, upon falling to the floor underneath, Angel took some time to think, recuperate from her wounds.
“Think...you need to think.” The eye which rested on Zaluu slept, for now, but it was all the means still there. That was unless she’d opt to remove her shirt, which would work out. However, Angel was now for the most part safe. Surely no longer within Zaluu’s present range, she’d be safe for the time being. “I need to send the information I have...now.” Shattering a window with her Zanpakutou, she reached for her side, removing a black hell butterfly. Having spoken her message, she’d sent it out to report everything she had learned about Zaluu-Sar and then she held her blade tight. If only she knew some more powerful Kido than she did now. Though...this was a good opportunity. A close quarter combat area with only two ways to go. It limited her opponent’s ability to hide from her.
Then, she had the idea to sit tight for a moment, to get time to think. Going into the corner of a room, she recited an incantation, suddenly a yellow lock spinning barrier to defend her from harm. “Enkosen!” Her barrier was now slightly stronger, and it might be able to buy her some time to rest from her foe. Off of analysis, those root like devices were what transmitted the heat that burned her, but could also be transmitted from physical contact. Her barrier would prevent either from hitting her so long as she could rest in the corner. Perhaps it would be a wise idea to pull back for now. Her opponent already lost a limb while she was “relatively” okay. The burn on her throat was pretty bad, and the cut on her thigh was limiting her ability if just by a little.
It occurred to her that her opponent was physically weak. Yet, she wouldn’t be able to engage against a foe she couldn’t see. Then...she had an idea. Looking, she saw a container filled with water that was normally used for the mop by the janitor. Spraying it all over the floor, she had created a way to track Zaluu if she were to come down. She still interacted with the physical environment. “Arise god of thunder. Awake mother of storms. Unleash the lightning upon the sinners.” Yes, good trap plan. Her Zanpakutou hand extended two fingers, waiting. Her opponent likely couldn’t cloak forever. She wanted to see the face of her enemy. Greet her Shinigami to Mod Soul. Why, they haven’t even talked together. If Zaluu were to come down and land upon the water trap, a bolt of electricity would shoot out upon it, utterly electrocuting her foe. Hopefully...that would happen, because then Angel would rush forward, slamming an Enkosen into Zaluu’s face.
Taka had to admit, this shinigami was pretty versatile. Truth be told, not a lot of shinigami liked to branch out. Too often they either put all their eggs in once basket, or they abandoned it all together. Those two classes tended to be those who focused on their sword, and those who focused on spells. It was always one or the other, the ones with physical or spiritual focus. It made them one dimensional, but in large groups it made them a bit more formidable. She often had to isolate them, separate them.
But Angel, was something a bit stranger. She dabbled in both. She didn't seem to use incredible high powered spells, but she also wasn't unleashing terrifying special abilities. She had a staple set of moves from both categories, and she would be remiss to deny that the woman seemed to utilize them fairly well. Had she not been the woman she was, she would have doubtlessly been victim to the woman's efficiency. It was a treat to witness such an oddly balanced shinigami.
Honor? No that wasn't right. She didn'a have any of that. What was it then? Pride? Affection? Wrong wrong wrong and more wrong. She......she respected the shinigami. It was an odd sensation, but to some degree she was actually enjoying herself. That familiar...tingle. She was injured. But she wasn't down. there was no despair. She was not afraid. She was....excited. Invigorated. The thrill of this fight only mounted when that shinigami suddenly dipped into the floor.
Zaluu did not miss a beat.
And she could have sank down too. Because light was not all that she could bend around her. That gravitational spirit of hers allowed her to bend light, sound, and even matter right around her body. But it wasn't her body she was sending down. Her roots fizzled and faded. Ironically, the moment angel was gone, was the moment that it finally let up. She knew she didn't have a ton of time though... Her cloaking was going to need refreshing as well. She didn't want to be down there when it happened. so instead, she reformed those roots, sending out that network, refreshing it before it could vanish, and then STABBING down. She sent those roots through the floor, burning hundreds of holes in it as she filled the room below her with those burning roots.
Standard japanese floors were not that high, much less than 12 feet. So those roots easily filled from ceiling to floor, stabbing down not only intending to burn Angel, but to stab down, to send capillary-thin lances through her body, and to pierce clean through to floor below, attempting to heavily damage the shinigami below her as the instant those roots touched the water, it exploded into steam, filling the room as Zaluu crouched above and used those roots to sense the situation down below.

It was only because of her Enkosen that she was able to survive the hundreds of roots attacking her. As a Class 5 Kido, it was the only solace that saved her from dying horribly in a burning assault of roots. In fact, as they’d collide with her barrier some would be sliced by her rapidly rotating shield, and in fact, they repelled the superheated steam that would otherwise cook her for just long enough. Her barrier stood strong, and then Angel widened her eyes, thinking about how lucky it was that she was able to avoid dying like this. As a result of the steam being blown away though, she was able to breath a little easier. However, she had underestimated...because after the first few roots, the barrier broke apart.
Then, the barrier was no more, vanishing into the air. Several of the small things cut her, mostly superficial as one cut her right leg near the knee, another the right side of her waist, a third her cheek, and a fourth at her left shoulder. A fifth had stabbed through her sandal, cutting her foot. Zaluu Sar was a fearsome opponent, and it would be nice to see her opponent’s face. A proper introduction so that they’d be able to meet each other. Shooting a bullet into the ceiling, it stuck, making the floor intangible, and perhaps miss Sar herself would fall through and greet the young Shinigami. Her cloaking should be running off soon, and so Angel had taken liberty to stand, to see her foe clearly for the first time. It hurt...hurt like hell, but she stood there, stone faced.
“Konichiwa. My name...is Angel, Unseated Officer of Squad 7. It’s been an honor fighting you. You’ve fought long and hard. Why, you’re one of the strongest I’ve ever fought.” Her voice sounded hoarse, the shortie having been dehydrated. She lowered her blade, waiting for an introduction as she bowed politely to such an opponent. “You’ve given me a run for my money. Definitely have some unique power there. So, I want to let you know this. I’m not fighting you because I have any personal grudges against you or your kind. I’m simply a woman following my duty and orders. But...Arigato. It’s been fun...so no matter which of us dies, I want to let you know I’m going with a smile on my face.”
It sounded so bizarre, for a battle to be fun? Curling her arm over her head, the young Shinigami smiled just a tinge, taking a long sigh. Now, looking down, she decided to speak out loud. “Okaa-San? Is this the kind of job that you used to do? Are you proud of me for doing this sort of job?” Lowering her arm, she stretched, groaning from the painful burns she’d received. “I bet you hate me don’t you?” She usually was more professional than this, but she was curious. Plus, she was intrigued at this woman who she was fighting. Didn't bother saying a word, and she wondered if it was because deep inside, this Mod Soul was afraid, terrified. She too was terrified, plenty of times by the Hollows that tried to eat her...and especially of Santa Ajora. Was she viewed as a predator as well? It was philosophical shit she really shouldn't think about. Might get in the way of doing her work.
“Hate me for being a Shinigami I mean. Or ripping your arm off. I’m sorry, I really am.” Aiming her hand out, she fired a Byakurai at the roof above her, willing the shard to no longer be active. If she was successful, the whole bit of roof above her would collapse upon her, crushing her under the weight of many rocks. Angel had a few theories on how her power worked, and so using physical attacks were more effective. Well, this was the climax. The battle had to end sometime, and frankly, she had no intention of losing. This was a barrier she had to pass, but would she be able to jump it?
Zaluu was surprised when the floor suddenly gave out Zaluu was caught by surprise, just as her cloaking gave out, she dropped just a few feet before platforms formed along her feet, stopping her from falling through all the way, remaining up in the air, only just below that ceiling as she slid down to the ground section. That burning effect vanished, and she was left there, knelt slightly as she looked to the shinigami that stood before her. She had to admit, this had caught her off guard.
However, before her very eyes... she was surprised by the woman before her. She was complimenting her. even as they saw Zaluu for the very first time. With that stump of one arm, and her body somewhat disheveled. And of course, that eye would be able to be seen still on the front of her shirt. Zaluu had to admit that a speech was the last thing she was expecting. Thankfully that net was still up. Even if her main ability wasn't active. However, she was...perplexed.
When that nonsense finally stopped, she sensed that attack. That sudden burst at the area above her, and her ability came in handy, because unlike any normal being, she didn't have to look up. While Mod Root had so very many powerful abilities, it was actually designed to be one thing: a sensory net. Allowing Zaluu to sensse anything within that four meter radius as though it were in contact with her. So when that ceiling began to fall, she was instantly aware of it, making up for her shitty reaction time as almost instantly, her body vanished as she was stealthed. And she used a property of her ability that Angel hadn't seen.
And she wouldn't see.
So far as Angel was concerned, Zaluu was suddenly buried in a rush of rubble, but she wasn't. This was because of how her ability operated. By trapping, and bending materials around her. And despite what Angel might have thought, her Shine Sar could bend, absorb, and suppress three things: Sound. Light. And physical matter. She could absorb it. She could trap it into an armor. and she could bend it around her. So when that rubble collapsed ontop of her, it was, just like the light that gave her her invisibility, bent around her body, pulled apart, and then put back together on the other side.
But even so, it was a very quick and close call. So close that she didn't remember to keep contact with the ground beneath her, and so the floor was bent around her as well, phasing her clean through the floor below until she dropped another floor down, the ceiling above her looking as if nothing had even passed through it. She herself now finding herself in a dark, empty hallway. Her heart still hammering through her chest. And she realized she had to get the hell out of there.
Injured as the shinigami was... they were still kicking, and capable of fighting. While Zaluu was on the last legs of her ability. She was exhausted. Physically and spiritually. and she had to admit.... she had....strangely...enjoyed this bizarre encounter. And she chuckled, a chuckle that was heard by nobody due to her ability, but she still chuckled to herself. Despite the close call, she had had....fun. But she couldn't let that distract her.
Not only had the shinigami come to know her general whereabouts, but now they had information on her abilities. But of course...Zaluu was a lunatic. Her abilities were confusing by nature. From Angel's point of view, she had some sort of fire attack and invisibility. And to be frank, it operated unlike any camouflage ability in existence. As such, what she would be able to derive, would be somwhat limited. But even a little information was too much. She had to hope that the shinigami would not make this a conscious effort.
If shinigami started attacking her club consistently, that would be a tremendous issue. She'd have to start killing them. And that was BAD for business. With a slow sigh, she rose to her feet, and she wished she had a cigarette. Something she hadn't yearned for in...years. She needed to move. shift her operations to another nearby facility. One of her....less fancy garages. But that also was a problem. It meant that security around Zan would be lessened. Should she move him? Would that even be safe? This was not good...
On her lonesome, she figured she had two options. She could stay, and fight the shinigami actively. Hoping that they either gave up from loss of men, or figured she wasn't worth the trouble. That, or risk a containment breach with Zan by relocating him, and herself, to a facility in another area. And she realized... she should probably talk with Luke and Aura about this. This was a very serious shift, and she needed to figure out what was best for everyone.
Sliding through the walls of the building, dropping down until she go to the bottom floor, Zaluu would cast one single look up to the roof and upper floors. Where no doubt that shinigami was still there. She could have tried to kill them, but that came at the risk of being captured. That would not be acceptable. So she walked. She turned her back on that damn building, and she headed back for the club. With that stupid radar destroyed, she had at least SOME time to come up with something, Maybe have herself locked into one of Dex's dimensional boxes so that her energy signature wouldn't show up.
But first and foremost... she needed to repair her gigai. And get the hell away from this shinigami.
As the rubble fell upon Zaluu, Angel took the liberty to wait a few moments, thinking the battle was done with. All she’d have to do at that point was extract the pill and destroy it. Approaching the rubble, she held her hand out and used Sho, pushing the stones away, revealing it to be entirely empty. There was no Mod Soul in sight, and certainly no pill. Eyes widening a margin, she had come to a reasonable conclusion. The Mod Soul had escaped, and she found that there were but few explanation of how this was. Either she had the power to teleport, or she had phased through the ground somehow. Her second guess was the one that hit the nail with the hammer.
Zaluu was likely long gone by now, not that Angel would be able to tell what with the cloaking and the fact her scanner was now broken. Squad 12 might call her a clumsy oaf for that, but that was just Squad 12 being the self absorbed assholes they were. They rarely if ever knew the horrors that was the battlefield as they spent most of their time “building cool shit” for everyone else to use. So, they sort of balanced things out. Taking a deep breath, she looked out the window, imagining Sar was out there...but was handicapped what with the missing arm.
“Not bad...not bad at all.” She’d make note to learn some more powerful Kido after this. She certainly needed them and to up her training if by just a bit. On top of this, she’d need to fill a full report. Likely the information she’d give Squad 12 would make them happy enough not to chew her out too badly. She’d have to create a full one about all the abilities she had seen including all she’d analyzed of appearance to make a solid recognition report. Wow, this was going to be a ton of paperwork.
Of course she’d also need to report to Squad 7 in order to receive her payment, fill out another report, and all sorts of other things. Great...but at least she’s learned a lot through this encounter. The eye along Zaluu’s shirt was slowly waking, and looking to the left, then to the right, it’s veins had tensed, going nearly bloodshot. ‘You coward! You ran away from me?! NO! MY PREY! YOU BITCH!” It wanted revenge, and so it began trying to shoot it’s blade for Zaluu, then shrieking when the similar result had occurred of it’s blade being destroyed.
As she deactivated her Shikai and headed home, the eye would vanish from her clothing, fading into nothingness as Angel entered the familiar bearings of home. The Soul Society. Filling out her reports on the way, she cringed at the pain of every step. It seemed to hurt more that the battle was done, but it was nothing a quick stop to the medics wouldn’t be able to fix. Musuhina was a skilled one, and Soul Society had been able to refill the ranks a bit more each time lately. It was very important after all. Soul Society couldn’t function effectively or without a high mortality rate without the medics. Thank goodness they were around.
