-Appearance-
Height/Weight: [5'8''/150lbs]
Physical Description: Jirou is a young man of slender build statured at a modest five feet eight inches weighing around one hundred and fifty pounds of weight. He has moderately long, straight black hair long enough to reach shoulder length at its longest, it is either left loose or tied up in a bun on the back of his head but at times he likes to experiment a little, giving it all a twist. On occasion he likes to wear earrings of different shapes and size and has a modest interest in human fashion as few things ever change in Soul Society, especially for the sort of clothing they call cosplay, so colourful and imaginative! Of course such clothing is rather expensive but he does his best to obtain such items regardless whenever he is in the human world but will of course keep to his shinigami garbs when not in Gigai.
His skin is somewhere between being fair and pale but avoiding the nuance of looking sickly while his eyes are of a purple variation that fits him quite well. Used to the toil demanded of a farmer’s son most would expect him to have plentiful of muscle but due to the genetics on his mother’s side very little of it is of the visible kind, so much to his disappointment he is lean and soft to the touch. Similarly there is little to be considered masculine about his face as his features are soft and daresay even feminine with a modestly concave nose and supple lips for one of the male gender.
Though it shouldn’t be mentioned to him directly as he is likely to get annoyed over it but otherwise doesn’t mind it all that much, preferring to look effeminate over looking dull and uninteresting which are words he's likely to use to describe those who harass him. Still, it has happened on occasion that he has been mistaken for a woman which aggravates him far more, especially if teased about it. None the less he enjoys his chosen fashion and stubbornly sticks to it like glue between two bits of hardwood despite the odd comment now and then. He is quite firm that he will dress however he pleases.]

-Personality-
Dislikes:
Prodigys- Having worked hard for where he is today he finds grievance with those of great inherent skill, a bit of jealousy shining through.
Recklessness- He finds displeasure in the company of those who act without a plan, often then dismissing those same individuals when they do have one as a flawed plan.
Secrecy- Himself suspecting that his brother’s death was covered up by some part of the inner workings of the Seireitei he cannot abide by lies and is unlikely to regain trust in any that have lied to him.
The Five Great Noble Families- Does anyone actually like those self righteous snobs? seems they're too busy sneering at commoners to ever do soul society any good.
Menos Grande- The hulking monstrosities that is Menos Grandes have left a very unfavourable opinion in Jirou's mind, hollow are bad enough without spitting Ceros at anything that breathes.
Quincy- While he has nothing against quincy themselves it is how they fight that disturbs him, only ever fighting at range and fleeing as the smallest hint of danger makes them seem rather pathethic, and it certainly can't be fun to fight them.
Letters- You never know what might've happened during the time a letter is slowly traveling, Jirou prefers visiting whomever he has news to deliver to directly.
Bandits- Growing up the son of a farmer in Rukongai of course he loathes thugs and bandits preying on the weak. Though it was always quite a ''blast'' when his father drove the miscreants off with his spirit techniques.
Dry seasons- He can't help but worry how his parents back home are doing during prolonged drowths.
Imposingly curious individuals- He's started getting used to the stares people give his zanpakuto but he has very little patience for people asking questions about it. No he doesn't know why it has a humanoid body and can walk around, no it's not some sort of genetically altered hollow it's a zanpakuto, no it's not a snake, snakes don't have limbs!
Heat- Despite the necessity for heat under the sun for crops to grow Jirou really cannot handle hot weather, he dehydrates fast and finds the constant sweating entirely untolerable.
Likes:
Drawing- There is a budding artist in all, it all comes to initiative and imagination.
Napping- After a hard day of work one ought to reward oneself with peace of mind and body, and whoever disturbs that will likely regret it.
Kido- First being taught minor spirit tricks by his father he has ever since enjoyed expanding what he knows and takes pride in his skills. Even though with regret he must admit he does not possess his Father's talent with the art, you could even call him sub-par at it but he's energetic about it none the less.
Teasing- It might not be nice if done too much, but it is simply impossible to resist embarrassing someone a little. The favourite target for these things is of course Shiro when the little lizard ends up any weaknesses he might possess.
Board games- To train one’s mind is both fun and important, plus being the winner feels good too. Actually most of his interest in games is usually just so that he can have a chance to gloat at being good at something.
Rain- The sound of raindrops clattering on the tilework of Seireitei’s many walls has a calming effect on him, the downpour being something he at times immerses himself under rather than seek cover.
Gardening- It's not exactly farming but it is a comfortable activity that reminds him of home none the less, plus it smells nicely and doesn't consume as much time.
Human Fashion- Humans are so imaginative with what they wear, not at all as dull as soul society with what one wears, he especially likes this thing they call cosplay, the strange outfits those drawings wear in books that humans then make costumes of.
Martial Arts- Ever since enlisting in the Shinigami Academy he has been in love with martial arts, often skipping out on other lessons beside Kido to make room for the more personal kind of fighting prissy nobles won't touch from fear of peasant hands. The many scuffles he got into as a kid in Rukongai sure helped give him an edge back then.
Winter- while it is a season he likes in general for how peaceful and beautiful the snow is the best part of it is to not have to deal with any bugs whatsoever.
Flaws:
Easily makes long lasting grudges that are often placed as priorities when they shouldn’t.
Short tempered, it doesn’t take much to anger him, a few well placed insults and he will have difficulty refraining from violent outbursts.
Naive, can at times be rather dense on certain matters, a person that has gained his trust could likely manipulate him into believing implausible things. Hence he takes being lied to, even as a harmless joke quite Seriously.
Honourable, yes you read that correctly. Jirou simply cannot make himself resort to cheap tricks and merciless killings when facing a respectable individual or someone unable or unwilling to fight, even if it endangers the lives of others.
Has problems readily trusting others he is not familiar with, possibly striking out on his own to complete an objective and leave them behind, this has gotten him in trouble on occasion.
For reasons unknown to him Jirou is really bad at handling hot weather, quite easily he can begin to fatigue and sweat in unpleasantly hot weather. Perhaps it is for this reason his Zanpakuto manifested as it did, a soothing cold thing to keep warmth at bay.
Habits:
Smiling at something even if it something sad or serious, might be interpreted differently. A defense mechanism when unsure how to respond.
Tends to run his hand through his hair when complemented, usually it would be specifically because his hair has been complemented but now it happens on pure reaction whenever made genuinely happy.
Sings in the shower, will never admit to it. Especially not if complimented on it.
Sharing each others sentences with Shiro when they can manage it, it's amusing to see if they can complete them not to mention priceless seeing the reactions of others. When the both of you share the same soul it becomes a bit easier to guess to guess the other's thoughts.
Humming during mindless activities such as gardening or the likes.
Tends to boss more submissive subordinates around when annoyed or stressed, a bad trait that he is ashamed off but so far unable to prevent indulging in.
Sticking to the shade or taking comfort in rainfall Jirou prefers to stay away from the sun if he can manage to without impacting his duties.
Pulling Shiro's tail for funsies, even though the little dragon boy is displeased when he does it. How can you not tug the tail?
Fears:
Fears being left behind by his fellow shinigami, deemed useless.
Fears getting on bad terms with his Zanpakuto, knowing how vulnerable he is without him.
Fears Shiro dying, unsure exactly what would happen in such a scenario.
Fears meeting his brother’s end trying to unveil the true happenings of what transpired all those years ago. As well as being frightened at the prospect to whether his brother deserved whatever fate was dealt to him or not, worst case having a traitor in the family.
Is frightened at the prospect of Shiro somehow managing to become permanently one with his soul again, Jirou has become somewhat attatched to his literral soul mate and would get a bit lonely without him at his side.
Cero, after having seen many Shinigami completely obliterated by the deadly red(although not always) beams of utter destruction it has left it's scars on him. Jirou is to a degree intimidated by the raw destructive power that stronger hollow can produce.
Goals:
Rid himself on his many recognized flaws, Jirou is quite aware that they are indeed flaws and that it's natural to have them but nevertheless they make him see himself as perhaps not the greatest person.
Always having had a tendency for isolationalism it is Jirou's desire to make closer relations with others be they Shinigami or otherwise. As a member of squad 3 he can afford that luxury as he realizes he needs to be more open with others.
Advancing in the Seireitei Ranks, Jirou does still want to know what happened to his brother and until he has the answer the uncertainty will continue to pain him. He hopes gaining clearance to classified information will bring him closure on the matter, and if he can't achieve that he fears he might one day resort to more drastic measures.
Something he shares with Shiro is a desire to prove himself, Jirou wants to unlock the powers of his Zanpakuto, he wants to join the ranks of Seated Officers as his brother wished before him. It is a personal matter to reach the goal his brother and himself set for themselves.
Alignment: [Lawful Neutral]
Overall Personality:
Jirou is often seen as a calm and well mannered individual with a strong belief in treating others the way you want to be treated. In truth he suffers feelings of inadequacy and has developed an inferiority complex as result of it, hence having enjoyed the company of others prior to block such negative thoughts and keep himself leveled as he otherwise finds it easy to become jealous when distantly observing. Of recent however he has become more solitary despite of this trait due to the emergence of his zanpakuto causing much unwanted interest in the two which is more than a little bothersome.
He is happy about his zanpakuto having manifested as a person despite the social bother that comes with it, Shiro which he took to calling the sword spirit has ever since the two physically met been a reliable companion that is just as antisocial when it comes to curious folks as Jirou is. But while he wouldn't admit it having Shiro by his side had made him look down on many of his equals to a degree, feeling special about the circumstance he is in and often judge many initially as extras even though he knows it not to be true and merely his sensitive pride.
Ever since having the luck of becoming a shinigami he has often felt as if he couldn’t keep the pace with his fellows in earlier years and any kindness or aid they’ve shown him during that time had in many situations felt like knives carving the truth of his weaker nature into him which has often had him grow spiteful of certain individuals. Despite this he would smile and thank them, leaving none the wiser concerning his predicament which is something he wished to overcome using his own ability and skill.
This makes it hard for him to make new friends as while he may get acquainted and friendly with people he never gets too close from fear of holding them back as well as the tendency for others to notice that he might not be entirely genuine after spending enough time in their presence. He does become more honest with himself and others when carried away by activities he enjoys which tends to make him more lively. And he can even become a bit clingy when someone shares his interests.
Due to these many flaws he has become quite attached to his Zanpakuto and in its presence much more confident in his abilities, which is a common enough trait when you’re bringing your posse with you but it also means when Shiro is not around Jirou can become somewhat impatient and defensive, not keen to trust in others during such a vulnerable moment. Especially in battle does this affect Jirou, should Shiro be knocked out of the fight it is very likely Jirou's courage would begin to fail him as he struggles with the reality that if the both of them wasn't enough then what could he possibly accomplish on his own.
He is quite aware of his weaknesses as an individual and is often keen to combat them yet when the going gets tough he always seems to shrink back to where he started, never quite daring to fully exit his own comfort zone. This also extends to facing new situations, finding it unnerving to deal with new types of situations or being relied upon for important tasks. He takes a great deal of comfort in what is familiar to him which could possibly be in a way related to his prior peaceful existence as a farmer before he first joined the shinigami academy.

-Powers-
Fighting Style:
Jirou almost always assumes a foe is a more skillful combatant than him as to never lose his life underestimating a foe and as such has taken a liking to employing Bakudo, the path of binding as well as Hado, the path of destruction to make up for his own imagined lacking prowess. As such he always attempts to maintain sufficient distance until he finds an exploitable opportunity to leave the defensive and finish things quickly before the foe can adjust while Shiro on the other hand aids in forcing a foe to keep their distance by relentlessly striking said foe with it’s claws and sheer aggressiveness. Should kido not work Jirou is likely to join Shiro and utilize their numbers to flank a target with the aim for one to immobilize and the other to land the lethal blow.
The two of them are excellent at working in unison, sharing the same soul allowing them to innately understand the plans and movements of the other and complement it. Oftentimes they will use this to strike from inconvenient directions for an opponent to defend as if the opponent were to focus on one of them the other would take advantage of the fact. While not exactly part of his fighting style over time Jirou and Shiro both have a tendency to grow more and more aggressive the longer a fight lasts as they are prone to getting caught up in the heat of combat and returning blows with an eye for an eye mentality.
But that is an unintended flaw they try not to encourage too often as they understand that a numbers advantage would gain them much room in a fight of stamina, outlasting foes who have to deal with twice as many blows as they themselves will have time to deliver. Granted with a fractured soul they are not as strong as they might have been when unified so it's imporant for them to watch each other's backs and cooperate to overcome their shortcomings.
Zanpakutou Spirit Appearance(Optional):[/b]
Shiro or Kōtta mizūmi no ryū as is his proper full name takes the form of a 5'1'' feet long young boy dressed in knee-length white robes with elbow long sleeves for ease of movement, wearing no sort of footwear whatsoever. He is of fair complexion with chin length white hair with a pair of large black horns protruding out forwards above his sideways hanging pointed ears. From forearms and out his already near white skin is replaced by thick white scales, broadening his form in those regions and making them suitable to use as weapons with nasty looking clawed hands suitable to tear and rend flesh.
Lastly a long and thick tail pokes out from his rear, 5 feet in length with softer more maleable scale to protect it giving it some minor protection but remaining a potential weakness. Other than his claws Shiro also has a sword hanging in his sash, identical to Jirou's sealed zanpakuto in all ways as it is after all the very same sword. There is also a vaguely cold air generated around Shiro with the occasional snowflake if the weather is cold enough already, an entirely harmless but none the less pleasant cool.
Within the Inner World while the zanpakuto can choose to remain looking the same as usual he can also take his true gargantuan form which is a classical such. A great white dragon with a body and tail which just seems to continue on and on without end all in snow white, he is a bit more ferocious like this with fangs the size of a person and a body wide as a house which mere cold breath can cause frost to appear over one's skin.
Inner World(Optional):[/b] Shiroi Ryu's inner world is a normally gentle place, it is an endless frozen lake where snow trickles down ever so gently from the white sky with the barest of a chilly winter breeze. But that is just the shape of the inner world when at a peaceful state, the more lively, harsh, ecstatic, mad or sad Shiroi Ryu the more the weather upon the lake will reflect it. Fog and wind might appear in different severity, a snow storm might be whipped up and the temperature could drop severely to lethal levels within the icy world.
Zanpakutou Appearances:
Sealed: In it's sealed state Jirou's Zanpakuto differs little from most when it comes to form, being a katana with a 3 feet long blade it's greatest variation is that it's tsuka, or better known as handle is a whole foot long as well. Making the sword very efficient for quick maneuvers and redirections when both hands are used but also more cumbersome when wielded with one. Due to the increased length of the handle it acts quite well as a lever for exercising his strength into the blows of his weapon. As for it's appearance it is rather different as the blade seems to lack the darker tone of metal usually found on the back of the blade with both sides being near white, the tsuka's wrapping are also white and it's circle guard appears as if made of silver with a blinding shine to it. On the butt of the handle there hangs a red tassel that creates a strong colour contrast compared to the rest of the weapon.
Shikai: The weapon remains quite similar even in it's Shikai state with the entire handle remaining the same except with the red tassel becoming snow white like most of the weapon, making it lose it's variety in colour. But more interesting the guard as well as blade of the weapon, before a beautiful white blade is now quite difficult to see as there is no metal at all for the blade which has been replaced by a thin blade of see-though ice just as sturdy as if it were still spiritual steel 4 feet long instead of the sealed versions 3 feet.
Bankai: A drastic change occurs when Bankai is released, instead of a sword Jirou would wield a chinese Guan Dao made entirely out of ice with a three foot heavy blade and a seven foot pole with a sharp spear like end at the bottom where a pommel ought to be. Even if somehow shattered the weapon would simply regrow shortly after due to being made entirely of ice.
Zanpakutou Release Names(Include both Shikai and Bankai names, and call out phrases)
Shikai; ''Deliver judgement, Shiroi ryū!'' (White Dragon!)
Bankai; ''Bring Gentle Silence, Kōtta mizūmi no ryū!'' (Dragon of the Frozen Lake!)
Overall Ability:
If there is one thing that can be agreed upon it is that most mythology on asian dragons claim that they quite often make their homes at the bottom of lakes as spiritual guardians of the land near them with certain powers to govern weather. Kōtta mizūmi no ryū is little different in this regard except for one tiny thing, rather than rule a fresh flowing lake he is a dragon who heralds winter and ice alone with no interest in other seasons, taking home deep under frozen waters. This makes Kōtta mizūmi no ryū easy to understand the function of as a zanpakuto entirely dedicated to enforce chilling cold and generating great amounts of ice. It is a zanpakuto which exists to herald the power of cold and freeze opponents to submission, breaking their bodies if their wills will not be broken.
All ice born from this zanpakuto has a powerful resistance to abilities that cause fire and heat, remaining unaffected by such abilities that have an OS inferior to Jirou's by 300 or more before it can even begin to be melted and requires an OS superiority over Jirou by 300 or more to melt the ice at a reliable pace. Worse still the passive cold air given off will reduce the efficiency of such abilities by 25% OS in Shikai and 50% OS in Bankai near the ice to widen that gap.
Physical Stats that have been lowered by any of this zanpakuto's techniques due to cold injuries can be relieved at a reasonable pace (be realistic about it, frostbite is no easy thing to recover from.) using heat based techniques or other sources of intense heat, frostbite can be prevented entirely from occurring if a user with a heat technique has at least 75% of Jirou's offensive stat after being cut by the cold and the user generate flames close to themselves and fuel those flames by 75% of the reiatsu Jirou expends in the technique used to generate the frostbite. For body parts who have been entirely frozen sudden impact could shatter the part into thousands of little pieces.
When a bodypart receives light frostbite the skin of the inflicted area will grow pale and numb, prone to shivering and inaccurate movement. When inflicted with severe frostbite the skin will begin to tear and break apart and most likely will turn grey or in worst case scenario black in some areas as motor functions shut down to the very basics with only the barest of control left as the cold the inflicted bodypart will experience pain quite similar to burning. Lastly if a bodypart is frozen solid they will feel nothing from it except from the cold of other nearby tissue, any strong impact could shatter this frozen part of an individual to pieces, for example a hand frozen in place to it's sword trying to block the blow of another might lose a finger or two, and if hit with enough force the entire hand might shatter.
Shikai Overall Ability:
In Shikai the very air near Jirou grows cold and moisture in the air crystallize into snow to float down gently and cover anything near him. The blade of his sword which now consists of ice rather than metal while just as durable as before should it be broken it would simply regrow to it's normal size again in an instant. When the sword cuts an opponent the injured area will also be stricken by severe frostbite or light frostbite if the opponent has at least 2 points in cold tolerance with a second cut to the same area delivering severe frostbite. Lastly the cut robs an opponent of some of their bodily warmth resulting in a 5% reduction to physical stats per cut. Important to remember is that no stat can be reduced beyond 25% of it's original value.
Bankai Overall Ability:
In Bankai instead of gentle snowfall a harsh blizzard is unleashed 50 meters around Jirou during the full length of his Bankai which reduces vision and annoys the eyes of anyone but Jirou himself. The Guan Dao he now wields which is entirely made of ice can regrow any destroyed part of itself without issue.
Worse still for those who are touched by the Guan Dao anything it touches with the blade of the weapon will freeze solid (or receive severe frostbite with the ice lump still present if they have at least 3 points in cold tolerance) with a large lump of ice in an instant half a foot around the area where the blade touches something. This means that every blow an opponent is forced to block their weapon will grow clumsier from the ice weighing it down that would need to be smashed or melted off to restore balance. Being cut by the blade similarily to how to does in Shikai causes frostbite at the same rate but needs 3 points in cold tolerance to reduce the symptoms and reduces physical stats by 10% of their original value instead of the prior 5%, stats cannot be lowered beyond 25% of it's original value although if that point is reached the opponent is likely at that stage an icicle.
Zanpakuto Techniques:
Shikai Technique; Yasashī ashitanoshimo (Gentle Morning Frost)
A spherical orb of ice forming in the palm of one of Jirou's hands one tightens their grip around the small frozen sphere reminiscent of a dragon's orb as a cold air emanates from it far and wide around a 30 meter area centered at Jirou and continuing its effect wherever he passes leaving a slippery ice trail, clinging to both ground and water a visible layer of frost soon forms and afterwards hardens to ice. To Jirou it is simply pleasantly cool to step upon with no hindrance to movement but to anyone else the terrain has become near impossible to traverse at great speed due to the lack of grip and at the same time things such as grass is now more like a harsh field of caltrops.
While this technique is active Jirou cannot let go of the ice sphere and thus cannot use one of his hands for anything other than punching a foe as keeping the hand closed is what keeps the technique going which is also made evident by the bright white sheen emanating from the orb. As soon as the technique ends the chilling effect stops spreading and no more ice is formed as the scent of morning dew perforates the air. Any foe stuck within this world of ice for a total of 2 turns without a reliable source of heat begin to suffer degradation to physical stats of 10% per 2 turns, facing a cold no creature is meant to endure. The stat degradation can be delayed to take 3 turns each time if the opponent has at least 2 points in cold tolerance.
-Reiatsu Cost: 150 per turn active.
Shikai Technique; Furasshufurīzu (Flash Freeze)
This technique has two different uses, the simplest is that if the sword stabs into liquid it will freeze all of it in an instant to the quantity of a medium sized lake hence it's name. The other and often more practical use is for Jirou to point his sword towards a target and unlesh the technique which would freeze anything ahead of it the width of the sword to a maximum distance of 300 meters as the full length of the blade materializes at the same time. Jirou can the swing the sword exactly once before the extremely long blade of his weapon shatters and a new regular sized blade grows back from the hilt. This extended blade works just the same as the Shikai in it's normal state, inflicting severe frostbite and 5% decrease to physical stats if hit.
-Reiatsu Cost: 300 per use.
Bankai Technique; Fuyu no jisshi keitai (Embodiment of Winter)
A far more devastating version of Yasashī ashitanoshimo Jirou's skin and hair will be coated by a layer of flexible ice with a durability of his OS giving him the look of a sculpture with certain draconic features such as horns appearing on his head, a prehensile 9 feet barbed tail above his rear and claws on his hands as the normal blizzard from his Bankai is instead whipped up into a nightmarish storm whipping an opponent with a constant barrage of ice fragments, hail and wind capable of causing small injuries against unprotected skin. The ground and any objects within this area which tracks Jirou instantly freezes solid and slippery as with the Shikai version but also turns any liquids and gases into solids in an instant, temperatures plummeting beyond any cold offered by earth naturally, bodily extremities such as the nose, ears and hands of others within the technique will within one turn without protection develop light frostbite and physical stats will degrade by 10% with a delay of 1 turn those with two points in cold tolerance for preventing the initial frostbite.
The second turn limbs are also affected by light frostbite as extremities reach severe frostbite and it gets hard for others to move their fingers accurately, their movements clumsy and painful. Physical stats drop by 15% this turn unless prevented and the simple act of breathing will become painful thanks to the biting cold air beginning to freeze the inside of one's body if they breathe too heavily.
The third turn if an individual was holding onto their weapon they will be unable to let go of it now as extremities will have frozen, sudden impacts to them likely to have parts break off and hands lose fingers. Limbs are now affected by severe frostbite making general movement agony and harshly impacting an individuals ability to move accurately with another 15% degradation to physical stats with four points in cold tolerance delaying this by 1 turn. Worryingly the torso reaches light frostbite at this stage.
Lastly at the fourth turn if the individual was never protected they are now frozen immobile, their limbs all failing them as the cold moves on to shut down their organs with the torso crippled with severe frostbite and another 20% degradation to physical stats if they are still capable of movement, death is imminent at this stage if the individual had no way of preventing the cold from overtaking them.
-Reiatsu Cost: 800 a turn.
Bankai Technique; Hyōgaki (Ice Age)
Wielding the Guan Dao as if it were a humongous brush for painting where Jirou directs the blade across thick ice will form as far or close from the weapon as he desires, the ice expanding itself forwards at a maximum speed of 800 with a round diameter of ten meters thick. It has the durability of Jirou's OS and being caught by it will worsen the stage of frostbite the target was afflicted with, if the target hasn't been afflicted yet it will simply cause light frostbite to the afflicted area and hold the target in place if they are unable to break themselves out.
-Reiatsu Cost: 250 per swing.
Bankai Technique; Reitō kyūden (Frozen Palace)
A technique which can be used both to defend or to entrap a foe when calling out the name of this technique a great dome of ice 5 meters thick will materialize at a minimum size of 50 meters to a maximum size of half a kilometer from side to side. It has no offensive value other than being difficult to penetrate, requiring double Jirou's OS to smash a hole in it the first turn (Heat and Fire techniques needing only x1.5 of Jirou's OS to melt through), every subsequent turn it stands the ice thickens by a meter and increase the required OS to break a hole in it by 150. A part of the dome that has been broken the post before will regrow at half of Jirou's OS and thicken at the same 150 extra OS every subsequent turn.
-Reiatsu Cost: 1000.
Bankai Technique; Ten'nohashira (Heavenly Pillar)
Similar to Furasshufurīzu (Flash Freeze) but on a grander scale when Jirou stabs the tip of his Guan Dao downwards, be it through the ground or just dipping it below himself should he be in the air he will form a great pillar of ice at a location of his choice. The round pillar is 20 meters across in diameter and usually stands straight unless Jirou manually choses to do it differently, the base of the pillar will always start at the ground and generally reaches to the sky unless somehow impeded. It has the durability of Jirou's OS and is created near instantaneously after a brief delay to when Jirou stabs his weapon downwards. An ES or Senses of 300 would be able to tell something is headed for them (ES senses the shift in reiatsu, Senses noticing the sudden drop in temperature and formation of ice crystals rising) but would require good insticts and/or speed as well to start moving in time. If caught in the pillar the opponent will lose 10% of physical stats to the cold, 5% if they have at least 2 points in cold tolerance and will begin to suffocate those who need to breathe until they can be broken out. This technique does not raise frostbite beyond light frostbite for all parts affected.
-Reiatsu Cost: 400 per pillar.]
Other Techniques:
Current Residence: [Seireitei]
Memorable Figures: [Maeda Tarou - brother, Maeda Shinji - father, Aihara Akiko - mother, Tenkū no unryū(shiro) - Zanpakuto.]
History:
Maeda Jirou was born in the forty-third district of Rukongai as part of the Maeda family, ordinary construction workers and farmers with a bit of luck when it comes to spiritual aptitude, a few having become Shinigami during the recent centuries. Two boys were born some 7 years apart from each other with the aptitude to enter the Shinigami Academy, the elder Maeda Tarou and the younger Maeda Jirou. Both were raised by their father Maeda Shinji who tended the crops of their farmstead when the seasons were favourable and aided with the construction and expansion of Rukongai when it weren’t, and their mother Aihara Akiko who tended to home and elderly family, keeping the internal functions of the house intact and homely.
They were not rich but neither were they poor, fortunate by most standards in Rukongai to have access to farmlands and as such more than capable to provide the sustenance needed for their spiritually able children and other family. The father himself was also able, having a few tricks up his sleeve gathered during the years to fend off troublemakers but chose never to embark on the road to become Shinigami. After all Shinigami never get the option to retire and that wouldn’t do for a family man such as he.
Nonetheless he left that path open to his children once they grew to understand it and taught them what little he knew, and as fate would have it they took an interest to it when they one day while in town saw their father leap forward to protect a young girl from a thug, blasting the man to the ground with nothing more than a finger. As they later matured they agreed that they would one day enroll in the Shinigami Academy to become way more powerful than their dad and protect him in the future, though of course that would still be some time.
For the most part as years went by the Maeda family lived relatively peacefully, dreams remaining dreams until the big man was ready to let them fly. But it would not be together, he let the eldest leave the nest first, a precaution one could say. To have the other remain free from the duties of the Seireitei should the path of a Shinigami not be meant for them. The decision was not exactly pleasing to either of them but their father would not relent, always pointing to a gap of skill between the two to settle any argument about it.
But judging from the many letters to follow from Tarou there was little reason to have worried in the first place, he had been accepted without issue and described himself to be doing well and the letters continued steadily for years with Jirou always writing back spirited replies about how he couldn’t wait to join him, his father still deciding to be cautious a while more, a few years was nothing when one could potentially reach the age of thousands. So are the lives of spirits.
Though as these stories predictably go not long before Jirou would finally be allowed by his father to take the exam just like his brother before him, years behind Tarou now, the letters stopped coming with the last one having ended on a note worth celebrating. There was a chance he might rise to the station of Seated Officer soon he had written. Someone had promised to recommend him to the higher ups if he could fulfill a task suitable of it, he was excited to let his mates know though he expressed worry a friend of his might take it badly.
Sounds foreboding? one last letter did arrive some time later but it was not by his writing, an informative letter from the Gotei administrative branch that Maeda Tarou had passed away during hollow extermination. That would be an understandable and even expected end for a Shinigami but Jirou after days of trying to find any solace in reading his brother’s last letter refused to accept that his brother could bite the dust so easily, suspecting foul play within despite having not a shred of evidence that even suggested it.
His stubbornness and anger on the matter worried his parents who knew well just how much his brother meant to him and as such forbade him from taking the exam in his current state, while disgruntled with the decision as he felt a haste to find whoever was guilty he obeyed. Months passed and he was still sullen, then a year and it might’ve seemed like he was back to normal though a keen eye could tell a darkness lingered to him. His father Shinji once his stubbornness was whittled away came to the realization that he had to let the boy go unless he wanted his son to be stuck in this uncertainty of events forever, finally allowing him to take the exam. Jirou had wasted little time when hearing it, giving family farewell he had hurried, almost forgetting to properly get dressed to admit himself for the exam.
All his prior training paid off once the testing begun though he had troubles when faced with the physical part, he was prepared for some minor Kido thanks to his father but swordsmanship? he hadn’t a clue where to start though luckily proof of spirit aptitude was the only actual requirement, the rest was simply to measure his current ability, not exactly the flying colours Tarou described himself to have passed with but it would do.
And so his days in the Shinigami Academy began, had it not been for the loss of his brother still weighing on him at the time these could have been the happiest days of his life, practicing Kido, learning martial arts and having pleasant conversation to like minded trainees. He wasn’t anything out of the ordinary compared to the others, bit of a pushover in some more specialized fields but adept enough to be considered among the better in his class when it came to Kido which prided him plenty though when it came to martial training he had a bad habit of sacrificing his sword or using it as a lever for more comfortable martial arts, efficient enough but not exactly proper sword fighting.
But far too often he had periods of depression over his brother’s fate and such thoughts made it hard to reach any meaningful friendship with his classmates. In the end he started to look upon them as a means to an end that he would only know temporarily until graduation anyhow. It did shock him however when those same classmates graduated while Jirou due to lack of study in fields in which he didn't find much interest or use in failed in his graduation which struck a heavy blow to his self confidence, always having been so certain he would fly by the academy and into the Seireitei.
The second time around he spent even less time making friends with the new trainee’s though he steeled himself against his prior depressions, instead busy with the feeling of shame over having failed once and fearing others would look down upon him because of it. Thus he took it seriously to branch out from his interests into the other branches of training he had previously not taken as seriously as he ought to, keeping on par with the others on all fronts, still finding it shameful that he was not too far above the skill level of most despite his prior knowledge. But it was sufficient for the teachers at least to have him graduate this time around.
Life in the academy ended and life as a Shinigami soon began as he found himself a member of the 3rd squad. It annoyed him greatly to have been placed there, having thought himself more suitable for squad 5 or 7 due to his interest in Kido but the need for more Shinigami in the 3rd squad to replace losses seemed to be a never ending problem. At least it would allow him to find out if a hollow really could defeat his brother, sensitive to that topic even back then.
Regardless he did the best he could as a new member and even slayed his humble share of hollows during several expeditions to the real world, always pushing himself to attain new heights and never fall behind again. This determination to improve drove him to attempt communicating with his Zanpakuto quite early without any results of course as it was nothing but the obnoxious demands of a brat for the sword to reveal itself but decades later Jirou would find himself patrolling together with a small squad in the human world for a time.
It was always an interesting experience to see the world of humans but he would get carried away one day as something far beyond their capabilities to defeat appeared, a Menos Grande.
They mobilized, calling for backup as they readied weapons to at least delay the menace that was the Menos however not even that could they accomplish. The squad’s plan was to use their own reiatsu as flares to lead the dim witted thing away from the town they were patrolling in and to a nearby mountain but the damned oversized hollow wouldn’t swallow the bait and instead wandered the streets, destroying houses and spreading chaos in it’s wake. It forced the shinigami to attack first, probably having no clue about any such strategy in the first place but when struck by the weak blows of inferior kidou it deigned to notice them and released it’s very own cero to much greater efficiency, killing several of the shinigami from the squad who had begun to think the creature entirely brain dead for ignoring them.
Jirou himself was just outside the range of the red beam of death, inches away from losing an arm or worse and in face of this dreadful opponent as he was on the edge of despair a small part of him stood firm, keeping the rest from buckling. A refusal to let it end here, a desperate and stubborn desire to not die in the same fashion as his brother forced him to tighten the grip of his sword as a voice echoed in his head ''Commendable, we have been waiting for your resolve. Now make use of it, crybaby.'' and with that words flowed from his lips, words he had never before heard yet they felt strangely familiar to him ‘’Deliver judgement, Shiroi ryū!’’ those were the words spoken as his hands would come to feel as if dipped in a frozen lake, the blade of his sword turned to ice and a cold air surrounding him.
The voice brought him courage and as the Menos opened it's great jaw to shoot once more Jirou dashed forwards as other's retreated, the red beam shooting above his head and down the ground, sending rocks painfully smashing and bruising his back. He fell to the ground but did not relent, soon up again to narrowly dodge another beam using Shunpo before finally closing the distance with the over sized hollow, the creature losing him beneath it's great stature. What happened next felt so natural, as if he had always know how to do it. Jumping straight up dashing between it's legs he formed reishi platforms beneath his feet to make the necessary path to reach it's torso, once more being forced to use Shunpo to avoid yet another cero but this was the Menos last chance, no more time did it have to open it's great jaw before Jirou with his blade of ice that in in instant stretched far into the sky as it struck the hollow in twain, the mask shattering into thousands of fragments as the Menos Grande howled loudly one last time before dissolving into nothingness.
He awoke days later within Soul Society behind bars, bandaged and confused. He asked a guard he saw outside his cell why he was there and what happened to the Menos Grande, only the latter could the guard answer as he was only told to stand guard, the Menos had been exterminated and two thirds of the group Jirou had been part of had been eliminated, the news brought him a multitude of feelings, relief, grief and confusion most of all. But within a couple of hours things would become much more clear as the guard received orders from another that Jirou was free to go and as he walked outside to the light of day waiting for him was a curious sight which reiatsu he could not help but recognize, it was his own. A creature humanoid in shape with clawed hands and a thick snakelike tail appeared before him. It was nearly entirely white like freshly fallen snow with the exception of menacing black horns and red eyes though perhaps not THAT menacing, the creature standing at around 5’1’’ feet if not counting the tail.
‘’We are free to go Jirou’’ it said to him and not quite understanding he asked who or what this creature was to which the being took some offense with crossed arms ‘’We are Shiroi ryū, you called us to come so we came. We are your Zanpakuto we hope you did not forget!’’
It took some time to accept what it then said, in the heat of battle he had called forth his Zanpakuto and performed Shikai, and in doing so slayed the Menos with great injury to self in order to end it. But afterwards as the Shikai came to an end the temporarily awakened Zanpakuto found no room to return to its vessel fully as the vessel had not been mature enough to handle Shikai, thus they were fractured, injured. Thus it was now here, part of his soul taking shape using his plentiful reiatsu, or so was the theory, he was still a bit fuzzy about it all.
‘’We also find this strange, but we have decided it to be useful. We find this form enjoyable in fact even though it weakens you.’’ the sword spirit had decided, continuing to speak in the oddly dignified manner it had done since the start. The strange conversation would continue for a while more and Jirou would for a few weeks have to deal with regular checkups to see if they were stable, during this short amount of time he took to calling the self proclaimed dragon Shiro due to how awful any nicknames based on it’s real name would be which Shiro himself found to be the lamest and most unimaginative name ever, Shiro so ironically meaning white.
Once the checkups stopped they returned to regular duty, being deemed fit to do so. While it might just have been a fluke that he defeated the Menos he was now an oddity, a shinigami walking around with a permanently humanoid zanpakuto. He had asked Shiro to reveal to him how he had used his Shikai time and time again but the spirit never revealed it, stating it was a mistake to have let him use it at all when he was not ready. He believed that was the reason their soul had been fractured to begin with and was certain another mistake like that could injure them beyond recovery, perhaps even resulting in death. Hence the young Shinigami who had tasted the power of his Shikai for a single time would have to wait a while more until his Zanpakuto would deem him worthy.
