Kennon's journey took him far enough away from the group that he would no longer be able to see their silhouettes. There was also no wood. This was to be expected. They were caught in a snowy region where nothing but the cold existed. If there was any wood, it was frozen, wet, or buried under the cold ice and the snow. It was dark, nearly pitch black. Stars could be seen, and the milky away. The moon could not be seen, for clouds covered it overhead, if it was even there. Without any real sources of light, Kennon was barely able to see. It was so pitch black that even with good senses, even with senses three times better than Kennon's, most creatures would not be able to see. He was almost completely blind, for stars provided very poor illumination.
It was cold, he was alone, and it was dark. Kennon had made a mistake in venturing out on his own. As soon as he could no longer hear or see his comrades, he was attacked. A ferocious blur whirled past Kennon. It would come out of nowhere. It appeared already half a foot away from him, at great speed, whirling past him. It was very fast, but also it was a surprise attack, and he could not see it because of the pitch blackness. It had not made a sound until it attacked, so perhaps he might not even have noticed it. However, after its first attack, he would be able to hear it growling. It was loud. Another shadow tried to attack him. Then a third. They all appeared very close to him, and were fast, and had not been noticed until after their attacks. All growled after their attacks.
There were three revealed attackers. If he could not respond to the first, he would receive deep lacerations across his chest, for claws had tried to slash deeply into him and draw a great amount of blood. If he did not respond or could not respond to the second one, then similar gashes would form across his shoulder on the right side. Failure to respond to the third one would cause a gash in his left leg so deep that it would buckle from beneath him with the knee too damaged to be used. He would also receive intense pain from any strikes that landed. However, while the attackers growled, he could not see any of them in the blackness. For all he knew, there could be more. He was alone and isolated. He was hungry, weak, and cold. His response times would be down. His stamina would be low. They had waited for him to be isolated before they attacked him.
