The alarm clock, powered by a spiritron battery, the most recent invention of Squad 12, blared loudly, a sound like a foghorn waking up the lieutenant asleep in his bed. As he bolted awake, two shrieks were heard as two blond unseated officers fell from his bed, butt naked. Still blearily, he pressed the snooze button ton the top of the alarm clock, his eyes falling on the nearest woman, a sheepish smile on her face, as the noise died. A grin spread across the tanned skin of Kubi's face. "... damn, sorry. Forgot ya were there." He rubbed the back of his head, his muscular torso peeking out of the blanket. He opened his mouth to speak, but suddenly his eyes widened. "Shit! I'm late!" He jumped out of bed, stark naked, and - like a whirlwind - began to get dressed.
Ten minutes later, he waved a good bye to the now-dressed unseated officers, their faces red as a charismatic grin spread across his face. "Ladies. I'll be seeing you." He slowly closed one eyelid in an exaggerated wink, and then he ran off, out the door and into the streets of the Seiretei. Occasionally, he would shout hurried greetings out to those he knows, but for the most part, he was determined to get to this mission. As he ran, his mind flashed to the details he had received the previous morning. "So ... the Wilderness is encroaching on the Rukon? This cannot be good ... what can be causing it? Hollow activity wouldn't explain it; the Wilderness has remained relatively stable so far." The honey sweet tones of Joo Bachi echoed hauntingly in the back of his mind. "Kubi darling, don't fret so much. Any creature that jumps out at us we can take, you know that." Kubi rolled his eyes. "That's not true, and you know it. Conceited." Joo Bachi laughed.
Finally, they skidded to a halt as they reached the end of the Rukon, where the wilderness had indeed crept up on the unsuspecting souls. Kubi paused, his senses straining to hear something, anything, in the normally busy streets. "Nothing ..." The cold, calculated tones of the Vice Captain echoed among the streets. "I know these streets ... it is never quiet ..." So absolute was the quiet, his words echoed among the building for what seemed like minutes afterwards. In the vast field that was his inner world, the vast swarm of bees that was Joo Bachi gave a visible shudder. "Darlin, what do you think happened here?" She sounded shaken, an odd trait for her. Kubi chuckled. "I'm not sure, old girl, but we'll soon find out." With that, he stepped into the wilderness.
He soon found tracks, where three people - two rather light and one friggin' huge and heavy - had crossed. Kubi crouched down, his brown eyes narrowed in concentration. "They went this way." With a curt nod, he took off running again, a plume of dirt following him. He came upon the group ... just as the scarecrow looking fellow appeared, then disappeared. Kubi skidded to a halt, worry gripping his heart. "What the hell was that?!" Joo Bachi replied curtly, her honeyed tones streaked with worry. "Kubi darling, perhaps you should proceed with caution, yes?" Kubi laughed humorlessly. "When have I ever not?" Joo Bachi snorted but said nothing. Kubi ran to them ... just as the creatures sprung out of the ground. Kubi's eyes widened as he skidded to a halt, feet behind the other shinigami. "Move, will ya?!" His voice was loud and uncouth as he forcibly shouldered past Raion and skidded to a stop in the middle of the two central standing Pawns. Using the momentum from his slide, his fists shot out, attempting to collide with the Pawn's chest. If it hit - with their insignificant strength - they would be shattered like a glass window.
