OOC: This is a closed thread between Shade Kawada and Paggos Chiemon, this will be their first encounter since Shade has attained his bankai. Also their first encounter since Paggos has attained his captaincy. No special conditions, I have the first post.

Paggos was sitting in the center of the barracks listening to all of the men in his squad training, sword clanging against sword. It was a wonderful sound to him, the sound of his squad getting stronger. However he was not training with them today, and they would soon find their training day cut short. He was waiting for their Fuka-Taicho, his second in command to show up to the barracks. fortunetly, lately Paggos had been busy doing some things for the old man and couldn't be around the squad as much as he would have liked. In his stead, shade had wrecked the barracks and put over half the squad in the infirmary. It was how he did it that peeved Paggos the most, going for his bankai in the middle of the barracks was the dumbest thing he could have possibly tried to do.

If he was smart like he claimed to he would have taken it deep into the rukongai like Paggos himself had done. Don't get all sentimental on me, Boy... and be weary the kid has likely changed since his bankai was attained. Paggos didn't answer Kousen-ken but he did agree with him. Attaining your bankai changed a person, not just the power of the release but since your zanpakutou was a embodiment of a part of your soul, gaining it meant facing the very recesses of your being and beating it. Although it was a bit simpler for Paggos, he was a little understanding. However on the flip side he should have been prepared.. he sighed and waited, he needed to pass on some words of wisdom to this kid.

[Shade Kawada]

Shade Kawada had arguably the best work ethic out of everyone in Squad 11. While it was true that Shade had regained his emotions, Shade kept them under control as best he could. For the most part the lieutenant acted the same way he always had with the exception of gaining a sense of pride and responsibility. The soul reaper vowed to restore the Kawada family name and protect his relative's honor. This would be accomplished by him making even more of a name for himself in Seireitei then he already had. He was the youngest soul reaper to ever obtain a seated position and he was now the youngest soul reaper to ever obtain bankai. Shade Kawada was undoubtedly a genius, and it wasn’t stupidity that led him to seek his bankai while in the barracks. Most of the time when there is a bankai fight, it occurs within a shinigami’s inner world and doesn’t ever affect the soul reaper’s physical surroundings. There was simply now way he could have predicted that such an event would transpire.

It wasn’t long before Shade came through the front door of the barracks. He’d gone on a run around Rukongai while wearing a backpack designed to carry 10 gallons of water. Shade shed the weighted backpack as he entered the door and looked around. Many shinigami were training except for his captain who was leisurely sitting around. Shade’s brow narrowed at Paggos as he glared at him from across the room. Shade didn’t believe that this man was worthy of his position. Saix had been one of the strongest captains in Seireitei yet his Squad was now being disgraced by Paggos Chiemon. How had this happened? What had happened to the great warrior Saix? The lieutenant cut off his glare and headed straight for the weights in the corner. If his captain wanted to talk to him then he’d have to approach Shade of his own accord because Shade wanted nothing to do with Paggos right now. Not until he at least proved himself worthy of leading Squad 11.

The soul reaper walked over to the dumbbells and removed two 100 pound ones. The soul reaper preceded to hold them out at arm’s length for as long as he could. This feat was incredibly impressive as it required an incredible amount of power in one’s chest. It was no secret that Shade was one of the strongest shinigami in Squad 11 and was certainly recognized in all of Seireitei for brute muscle. And with his bankai, he would become stronger yet. Paggos was not a soul reaper that would simply acquire Shade’s respect by having his position. Paggos would have to prove himself worthy of his position to the proud lieutenant. Until his captain did something impressive, Shade refused to view Paggos as a superior. They both had bankai. What made his captain stronger than him? The lieutenant hadn’t seen what the captain’s zanpakutou did, but then again, Paggos hadn’t seen his either. A fight would prove entertaining and beneficial, but Shade wasn’t about to instigate such a confrontation.

Paggos Cheimon heard Shade come right in, but even with his summons he ignored his captain. Mistake number one, Paggos stood up and his hiaori billowed in the wind flapping and rippling. He may have been smart, but shade obviously didn't realize that he just pressed a very big button. Paggos said very calmly, but you could tell with the anger in his voice it was clear that he meant what he said,"Everyone, leave us now... I must speak to our esteemed vice-captain." everyone stopped immediately, although spiritually mediocre, his physical prowess were impressive and instinctual skills were unmatched by no one alive. No one dared to mess with him right now, they all stopped what they were doing and rushed to leave the barracks.

Paggos sighed and walked over briskly, and grabbed his wrist and squeezed. His strength was double of Shade's and he was grabbing a sensitive area, one that was prone to break under too much stress. Paggos brought his full strength to bear on shade, he felt like his grip would be like steel. Paggos spoke in a low voice,"You have a lot of nerve, Boy... now i suggest you turn around before i take your arm off, or better yet kick you from this squad. I don't need to say any thing more do I?" he released his arm, and slung his shield from his back, stretching out his arm. It was stiff from lack of his morning exercise,

"You caused quite a bit of trouble for me. You didn't know that your zanpakutou would have an effect on our world. You understand, now that our spiritual battles for bankai can take place even here in our world. Your's apparently was not fully in this world. My battle however was fully in this world. You should have come to me, or any captain for that matter before trying to accomplish bankai! You put your fellow squad members at risk and i won't tolerate it. I want you to know that.."

He waited, for Shade's response. This boy needed to learn, before his arrogance got him kicked through a wall...

[Shade Kawada]

The message that Paggos had wanted to see him hadn’t reached the lieutenant, so he was understandably confused when his captain ordered everyone except for him to evacuate the barracks. Had he done something unacceptable? The lieutenant chose to ignore the captain as he closed the distance between them and instead he reached out to grab a dumbbell. Shade was still trying to get a grasp on socializing with other people normally. He still hadn’t gotten the correct use of facial expressions quite down yet. The vice-captain felt a pang of malice as Paggos physically grabbed his wrist and kept him from exercise. He didn’t resist as Paggos let his anger be well known. “You have a lot of nerve, Boy... now i suggest you turn around before i take your arm off, or better yet kick you from this squad. I don't need to say any thing more do I?” said the captain as he threatened to remove his arm.

Shade didn’t react to the soul reaper’s words. He was bluffing. There was no point in getting worked up over something that wouldn’t happen. Paggos was not immune to the law just because he was a captain. Seireitei cared about their lieutenants enough that such an action would be swiftly dealt with in Shade’s favor. Paggos would lose his position as a captain if he so much as broke his arm, and they both knew it. However, the second threat was much more believable. Paggos could certainly kick Shade out of the squad, but it wouldn’t do much. Shade was at such a level where he’d simply take over the lieutenant spot for a different squad. Because he knew that the first threat was a bluff and the second one wasn’t too threatening, Shade didn’t move and simply allowed Paggos to release his grip.

The vice-captain remained silent as Paggos continued his rant. “You caused quite a bit of trouble for me. You didn't know that your zanpakutou would have an effect on our world. You understand, now that our spiritual battles for bankai can take place even here in our world. Your's apparently was not fully in this world. My battle however was fully in this world. You should have come to me, or any captain for that matter before trying to accomplish bankai! You put your fellow squad members at risk and i won't tolerate it. I want you to know that...” lectured the captain to his silent lieutenant. The soul reaper sat in silence for a moment, thinking of a response. He hadn’t once looked at his captain since he initially glared at him when he came inside. The soul reaper turned and looked up at Paggos with the most expressionless gaze ever. “Instead of being angry at me for putting my comrades at risk, shouldn’t you be angry at them for not being able to stand up to me?” he said in the most depressing voice. This was truly a quote befitting the vice-captain’s attitude. He only valued strength and power in a person and viewed them as nothing more than weak if they didn’t possess these qualities. Although he’d been warming up to his immediate family lately, he still walled himself off from the rest of society. Shade waited to see what, if anything, Paggos would do. He knew he had a point. Squad 11 was not a place that would let any sign of weakness off the hook. Why Paggos was giving Shade a lecture because the rest of the squad was too weak was beyond him.

He looked down at his blades and sighed, it was frustrating. it was like teaching a kid manners and trying to understand how they felt. although it was frustrating, he was willing to help him. He was his captain, and it was his job. That much he was to accept and he was willing to do what he could. He turned back to shade and drew his second blade, his greek gladius. It's bronze color gleamed in the midday sun. He then rolled his shield on his arm once more and gave shade an order, one he was sure the kid wouldn't mind following.

"Today i'm going to teach you empthy, and sacrifice... My zanpakutou's name is Kousenken. It means warblade, i never wanted to go to war against the world. But he and because he is a manefestation of my soul exsists. it means that deep down there is a part of me that lusts for combat. I know of your desire to be the strongest, but you have yet to prove you are even stronger then me. Draw your blade, we'll start out slow. And we'll see how experience with a blade you posses and let us see if you can best me with out forcing my release."

Paggos' zanpakutou was still strapped to his waist, he was choosing not to fight with Kousenken just yet. If Shade could learn to read him and feel, he would be able to push him to releasing. He however doubted he could do that. Paggos' skill with a blade was un-matched by all but very few in the seireitei. he readied himself and waited for Shade's first strike, he would show him empathy. to read your opponents and moves, and to be willing to sacrifice not just for yourself and your own gains but for his squad.

The captain’s last words caught Shade’s attention and he turned his head towards Paggos with a look of bewilderment. Did Paggos really think of himself as superior to him? Was Paggos, who had simply fell into his rank through sheer luck, believe he was better than Shade? The head of the Kawada family had shot up through the ranks like a rocket and became a vice-captain in less time than it took most to become even a seated officer. Here was Paggos, a captain that had yet to prove himself in combat, speaking down to him like a child. Shade had wanted to simply ignore his captain for as long as possible, but this was a direct attack on not only his pride, but the entire Kawada family. Shade stood up, knocking over the bench he was sitting on in the process as Paggos continued speaking. “Today i'm going to teach you empthy, and sacrifice... My zanpakutou's name is Kousenken. “You think yourself to be quite mighty then?” said the soul reaper as his hands drifted to his two blades, “You’re lucky our battleground is the barracks... because if I showed you my bankai here, you along with everyone for miles would be dead...” Shade grabbed ahold of both Buraindo Kira’s and Jisatsu Kasumi’s hilts as he turned around and faced Paggos. “I suggest you unsheathe your zanpakutou,” said the vice-captain, “Because if you don’t, I cannot guarantee your survival...” In an instant the shinigami unsheathed both of his swords. The hilts of each blade were extracted rapidly from their sheathes as the blunt handles shot forwards at the captain’s torso. Shade was about to begin his multi-bladed onslaught against his captain. The soul reaper quickly shifted his weight into a comfortable stance and swung at his captain’s legs with the sword in his right hand, and at his head with the sword in his left hand. Two different attacks were coming from two different directions at two completely different levels. In fact, it was executed very similarly to a certain fullbringer named Melissa Smart that Shade had fought while he was still vice-captain of Squad 3. Paggos was unable to block the lieutenant’s sword strikes with his bare skin as Shade’s reiatsu strength dwarfed the captain’s own.

“Be careful not to let your overconfidence make you underestimate me... Captain Paggos...” said the soul reaper was his swords preformed a scissor action that would slice the other soul reaper into three pieces. Paggos’ only option was to dodge both of these extremely crippling blows, or blocking them. Unfortunately for him, he wouldn’t notice that while they were both swung with the same amount of force, Jisatsu Kasumi traveled a bit faster as it soundlessly came flying at his head. Jumping would ensure that he’d be hit by the sword coming at him from his right while ducking would lead his legs to be amputated by the sword coming at him from his left. Paggos’ options were limited, and Shade knew that. The vice-captain immediately identified four possible maneuvers which would lead the captain to safety, and prepared counters for each one of them. One of them being a shunpo while another involved him unsheathing his zanpakutou. There was no way that Paggos could keep up with Shade’s genius mind.

Paggos’ vice-captain was forgetting something, he was carrying his shield. It was a custom Greek shield and he was a master and using it. And while Paggos acknowledged that a dual bladed sword style was formidable and a very versatile attack style, it did not match the amount of moves you could possible think of when you had a shield and a sword at your disposal. Paggos was able to gauge his speed and he figured that shade was around half his full speed. So he decided he up shade’s speed only a little, he stepped into the strike and extending up caught the first blade on the crescent. While at the same time, used his Gladius to whip down and block the blade. With Paggos’ strength being double of Shade’s, he would have no problem holding him in check.

“I do not wish to underestimate you, Shade. You are a formidable man; you have speed, immense strength, a brilliant tactical mind, and amazing senses. What you lack is the ability to read an opponent without over analyzing things. You need to learn to read them by feeling. Read them merely by putting yourself in their shoes. Try to read me, I am your captain; I possess immense speed and strength, I have the possible combinations of two swords and a shield at my disposal at the moment. Take into account how I have acted so far. My body language, the emotion in my voice and the thoughts behind it, putting yourself into my shoes helps you to not only predict your opponents moves but to lead them how you wish..”

He himself had figured Shade to attack aggressively, and had been right. He then pushed hard with both of his arms upwards and with that strength would have forced his vice-captain’s arms up and away. Jumping back he braced his shield against his arm, while spinning his sword in his hand. He was now in his fighting stance, and if Shade wanted to come out of this unscathed he was going to have to do what the captain had said. He wasn’t trying to harm Shade; he was only trying to teach him. Shade was showing one extreme emotion to Paggos and that was hubris. If he wanted to learn he would need to swallow his pride. Paggos didn’t even look happy, in fact he looked the opposite. He looked like he was pained with a great sadness.

“As for your earlier statement, I do not think myself high and mighty. I pity myself and everyone who has to live this life. Yes we are protectors; yes we have the greatest honor to wield great power and destroy that which is evil. We are supposed to lay down our lives in the greatest struggle known since the beginning of our existence, war. War against Hollows, war against Arrancar, War against rouge Shinigami, Vizard, Bounts, Quincy, against the demons that have escaped hell, and even the reports of the new battle ready humans. We have the greatest duty and the greatest sacrifice…”

In an instant the shinigami unsheathed both of his swords. The hilts of each blade were extracted rapidly from their sheathes as the blunt handles shot forwards at the captain’s torso. Shade was about to begin his multi-bladed onslaught against his captain.

Unfortunately for Paggos, Shade’s first attack connected with the target, twice in fact. You see, Shade’s first attack didn’t involve swinging at two different places with his swords. His first attack came even before that. The captain hadn’t seen it coming at all, for it had looked absolutely harmless at first glance. The blunt handles of both Shade’s weapons shot forwards at Paggos’ torso when Shade first unsheathed them. If the captain had studied the Kawada family’s way of fighting more carefully, he would have known that they typically opened fights with a thrust with the hilt of their zanpakutou as they unsheathed their weapon. Paggos had overlooked this attack as simply Shade unsheathing his weapons, but both hilts connected with the captain’s torso with a loud thud. While someone of Shade’s strength couldn’t normally hurt someone like Paggos with mere hilt thrusts, these attacks were an exception.

The blunt ends of each sword collided viscously with the other soul reaper’s stomach and bypassed his shield which he hadn’t been able to block with. The captain would feel it almost immediately. A shockwave from each collision site echoed through his muscles and bones and eventually converged on his spine. Unfortunately for Paggos, the shockwaves reverberating through his body were made twice as strong because he was hit twice. This would shatter most people’s spines, but for someone as durable as the captain, his back would merely be thrown out and he’d find it incredibly difficult to move, much less defend himself. In all likelihood he’d collapse to the floor, unable to continue any longer. Needless to say, if his captain was unable to defend himself, Shade would not proceed and attack him. He didn’t wish to end Paggos’ life. He merely wanted a bit more respect from the man who held the position above him.

“That technique was called, Kyohaku...” said the soul reaper as he glared at his weakened captain, “It sends a shockwave through the body of the victim and destroys their spine... It’s a technique developed by my family to be used against opponents who we don’t wish to waste our time on... You’ve been hit with two of them at once. You shouldn’t be able to even move right now, much less fight...” The back was one of the most important areas of the body. It governed practically every movement. Paggos would find that using any of his muscles would cause him an immense amount of pain that would shoot through his spine. Shade looked bored as he continued to speak, “Next time I suggest you think before you threaten to remove the arm belonging to the head of the Kawada family...”

OOC: when was it said we were standing that far away? I figured when I had Shade thrust his hilts forward you'd realize Paggos and Shade were much closer than that. Besides, Paggos was standing close enough to grab Shade's arm while he was sitting down...

Shade had one thing right, the energy was indeed something not to be hit with. And although it hit him, it did something that shade did not expect. You could hear his back spasm and pop as the attacked rocked through his body, then he swung his body up and his spine popped and reset itself. His muscles were so sore now, he let them settle for a moment and grinned wickedly at his Vice-captain. "Okay, now i'll admit. I didn't expect that, and it hurt. but you don't have the strength to bluntly put me down. Now, here i come." He stepped forward in his form, his bade in his left hand. He was moving at full speed which although shade was more then able to keep up with, his body was too slow to react. Paggos thrust forward with his shield, first with an direct forward thrust and then upward. He could try blocking the attack, but that would leave his arms thrown upward.

Another factor was that he was twice as strong as Shade, this was why his strike was not as effective as it could have been, also paggo's masterful pain tolerance was a dominating factor. He was still able to fight because he was able to take pain in order to deliver what strikes he needed to. After he followed with his shield attack, he attacked with his blade arching up from hip to shoulder. His form was perfect like always. it was extremely fast and the only way shade was going to get out of this one was most likely shunpo. "Come now, BOY! you missed you're chance for me to play nice. I'll teach you the hard way then!"

“Okay, now I’ll admit. I didn’t expect that, and it hurt. But you don’t have the strength to bluntly put me down. Now, here I come,” said Paggos as he tried to fight through the pain and stand up. Shade took a step backwards as the soul reaper seemed to be overcoming the effects of Shade’s sword technique, however, the unworried look on the lieutenant’s face remained. “That’s odd... you should be unable to stand...” said the vice-captain as he watched the shinigami prepare to fight him. Without another word Paggos took a step forward and that’s when he’d realize it. The same pain he’d felt when he initially got hit shot through his back again and he’d drop to the ground. “Didn’t I tell you?” said Shade, “Your back has been crippled. The technique I used has directly attacked your spine. You cannot beat me anymore in a physical battle, for you cannot even preform the most basic physical attacks. Even if you endure the pain, the weakness that comes with your disabled back still remain...”

Shade glared at Paggos Chiemon with calculating eyes and opened his mouth to speak. “Even if you were able to move and attack me, your attacks would not even be near the level they normally are. Getting hit once by that technique would fully disable any lieutenant, and you were hit by two at the same time. You cannot preform at your full potential anymore. You use your back for just about every movement you make, even if you may not think so. It is over, Paggos Chiemon... I will be waiting for the day that you prove yourself to be worthy of your position. Remember this day, Paggos. Remember it with anger, regret, and embarassment, but whatever you do, remember never to cross the Kawada family ever again...” Shade stepped away from the soul reaper’s body and sheathed his blades. He’d been lucky that he had not needed to spill blood today. Shade abhorred getting his blades dirty with the red fluid.
