Well, that was that. Kaen had clearly come out on top in this last exchange. Now he had a blade at Manabu's throat, and that wasn't a holding move. That was the abortion of what would normally have been a decapitation. The only way for Manabu to have avoided it was by using shunpo, but he didn't have even enough reiatsu left for that. Had he been faster, Manabu might have used another seki. Yes, this fight was over. Then an evil smile slowly crept into Manabu's face.
Oh, why not. It will certainly be a new experience for him...[/i]
Manabu suddenly made two quick jabs at Kaen's wrist and inner elbow. Kaen would notice sharp, stabbing pain followed by some other sensations and the inability to grip his zanpakuto anymore. That's right. These were Manabu Brock's to-be-famous-some-day reiatsu needles. Manabu immediately dropped down and deposited two more in Kaen's ankle and knee. Even if Kaen could manage to stand on the leg anymore, he had now lost a lot of mobility. Manabu proceeded to jab Kaen in many different areas including vital organs throughout the torso and the throat. Luckily, he was not using any more needles.
"These are my reiatsu needles. This is a technique I have created myself. You may encounter other techniques developed by individuals that deviate from the standard. I have used only 4. Had I continued to apply them with those last blows, you would be in a great deal of trouble. Of course, if you had killed me any of the several times you could have, I would be in a lot of trouble."

Whoa! What was that!? One moment Kaen's blade had been at Brock's neck. The next, Brock jabbed at his arm and he felt a stabbing pain. Pressure points? Kaen had dealt with those in the past, and while uncomfortable, they hadn't felt like this! His arm recoiled away from Brock, his sword dropping to the ground, and that was when he noticed the needles in it. Senbon, huh? Clever.[/color] They'd actually successfully disarmed him too! Well done!
But Brock's follow-up wasn't as successful. As he dove down to jab at Kaen's legs as well, Kaen shot the leg backwards out of the way and fired a Muay Thai leg kick with his opposite leg. Of course, since Brock had gone low, it meant Kaen's shin was on a crash course with the side of Brock's head. No particular target like the temple or anything. If it hit something major that was fine. Even if it didn't though, it was still a kick to the head, those tended to do a lot of damage.
Even if Brock avoided it though, it would have suitably disrupted his further attacks. Kaen leapt back away from Brock and removed the needles from his arm, taking a look at them. "Nice little trick. Hid them up your sleeve? I suppose that old uniform has its merits afterall." He complimented, flipping the needles into the air and catching them between his knuckles so that the pointed ends aimed out from his fist like a claw. Getting punched by that would be even less pleasant than Kaen's normal blows!
Kaen smirked. "If you'd like to continue that's fine. If not, that's also fine. You've fought hard. If you want to keep going though, I may have something to show you." He told Brock with a smirk. He was quite enjoying himself. However, Brock was looking pretty fatigued. Normally this wouldn't have bothered Kaen. He liked pushing people to their absolute limits, and then to keep on kicking them. That was how he managed his own training. However, this had been for a simple sparring match, so he would understand if Brock decided to stop now.

Manabu managed to get his shoulder up to take the kick. This sent him reeling away. His Dai-san-seki was rather quick after all. He shouldn't have expected to land those hits anyway.
"Actually, they were not hidden in my sleeves. I made them just now. They're made of reiatsu. At this point I have enough reiatsu only for one more low level kido and these needles."
"I am nearing the end of my training effectiveness, so I believe it is a good idea to stop soon. I am, however, interested to see what it is you have to show."
Brock took a ready stance yet again. This would be their last exchange for today, and he would not have much to show in it. That's all right. Some of the best training in Brock's experience has been holding on in those last moments.

Kaen nodded solemnly. "Nothing much, really. I'm just gonna step things up!" He was glad Brock had decided to continue. It'd make things easier. Suddenly, the 3rd seat dissapeared in a Shunpo. Whereto? His fallen blade of course. Kaen quickly snatched it up from the ground and flipped it into reverse grip. "I feel that to optimize our potential synergy in a fight you should know my full capabilities. Prepare yourself Manabu-kun." He informed his suboordinate.
"Burn Hachiryuu." Kaen proclaimed and was consumed in a blaze of reiatsu. As it cleared it his shikai revealed itself as a silver colored metal arm brace with black flame patterns across it. A blue gem fitted itself at the top. Kaen grinned. "Here I come Manabu-kun. For the last phase of your training, I just want you to try and survive! If you can land a blow on me while I've released, well, that's just bonus marks." Kaen joked.
Here goes. Kaen held out a hand and a flame appeared in it and began shifting and molding itself. Changing shape. "This is one of my favorite techniques. I call it "Lash." Perhaps you'll see why." Kaen stated as he launched a second Shunpo, attempting to appear about 6 or 7 feet behind Brock. He whipped out his arm where a whip of flame lashed out, to bind itself around Brock's leg. If successful, Kaen would yank the whip backwards hard to drop Brock to the ground. Also, since it was composed of flame, it'd burn like hell as well, but Kaen was carefully controlling it so that it wouldn't set his uniform on fire.
Kaen followed this up by lunging forwards, the whip dissapating. "Tou! (Blade!)" In the whip's place a sickle-like blade was protruding from the side of the arm brace. Kaen attempted to land on Brock's back, and, just as before, drag the blade to his throat. This time however, instead of standing there, he lightly flicked his arm upwards to nick Brock's cheek, as a warning blow, before leaping backwards again. He was still using his halved stats during all of this.

Manabu drew Shonen as Kaen grabbed his zanpakuto. Try to survive? Fair enough. Even though Brock was tired, he was ready to get moving again. He was not interested in getting smacked around just now, so he rolled to his right as soon as Kaen made his shunpo. He popped back up in time to barely block Kaen's follow up strike. That was something Brock liked about abilities that required verbal commands or incantations. Even if he had no idea what his opponent could do, the utterance that goes with an ability often gives some indication of what's to come. "Blade" paints a very clear picture.
Brock's two blades met Kaen's one, which was fortunate for Brock. If not for a two handed defense, Kaen would surely have broken through. Manabu responded with a kick, but that was to no avail. Kaen was already long gone, and Manbu stood panting.
"Fascinating. A fire based zanpakuto that changes form anchored to your arm brace. At the risk of seeing them, do you have any projectile techniques?"

Kaen grinned as Brock rolled out of the way of his blow, and managed to block his slash. "Good reflexes!" Kaen complimented as he jumped back, out of the way of the kick. When Brock asked about projectiles, Kaen smirked, and raised his hands. "Hachiryuu's power isn't just changing form. I can shape its fire into whatever I desire and have it take on the properties of that form. For example..." Kaen curled his hand downwards as a slight flame began to appear between his fingers. Suddenly, Kaen's hand snapped out, sending a small flaming object through the air, aiming to embed it in Brock's shoulder. Even if it missed though, it would stab itself into a large stone behind Brock, and he would see it for what it was. A shuriken. Not a lethal weapon, but it would have doubtlessly hurt.
"I'm also not limited to shaping just one flame at a time, either..." Kaen commented as he raised his hand. "Chire (Scatter)." A flame began to form and within moments about two dozen flaming crossbow bolts launched out at Brock, covering a very wide area. These would function exactly like crossbow bolts, AND fire at once, burning but also causing puncture wounds to anything they hit. In the interests of not killing Brock, Kaen had ensured all of them were below neck height, and higher than the femoral artery. While they'd hurt he hadn't fired them with enough velocity to reach vital organs. But wounds could still be quite serious if they hit.
"And there's one more secret to my zanpakuto's power." Kaen commented as he began to shape yet a third flame. "Tou!" He proclaimed, using the phrase used for his blade technique. He suddenly leapt into the air, aiming to jump over Brock's head. And then promptly sent a shower of fireballs at Brock, using his Chire technique again, instead of a blade. Between the bolts at the front and the fireballs from above, Brock would be hard pressed to get out of this! Again, fortunately it wouldn't kill him, but this would still suck.
Kaen grinned. "The names for my attacks are of my own invention. I don't have to say them to use them. I name them purely so I can mislead my opponents into believing that they'll be able to predict what I'm going to use!" He informed the officer, as he landed on top of the stone his shuriken might have embedded itself in-- out of range of being hit by his own attack.

Manabu was more than ready to dodge the shuriken. He had yet to inquire about an attack without a demonstration at him. This zanpakuto was a lot like Shonen in its morphing ability. For that matter, Minamimoto-fukutaicho's zanpakuto also had a morphing ability. Was there something about Division 7 that attracted shinigami with shape-shifting zanpakuto? The three of them could probably work out some very interesting if not effective strategies. Anyway, back in the fight, Kaen was introducing his next technique.
This time it would be a bunch of projectiles at once judging by Kaen's remark. Well, Manabu wasn't going to stand for that. Manabu Brock was the sort of combatant who really, really preferred never to be hit. He made his dodge a forward somersault and the entire barrage passed over him. That was a close call though. It's a good thing Kaen stopped between techniques to introduce them. If he had been trying to hurt poor Manabu, he would have.
Well, he was preparing to use a blade technique apparently. There was going to be something unexpected though... Perhaps it would turn into a projectile? What's this? He's leaping! That's what Manabu liked to see. He dashed forward at full speed with swords high and ready to receive and reply. Then the other shoe fell. Actually it wasn't a shoe so much as it was a bunch of fireballs. That was, indeed, unexpected. Manabu continued to "tail" as "high" as "it" would go, narrowly escaping the torrent with a singed shihakushō. Manabu was quite out of energy now.
"Well, that is rather useful. If it's all right with you, Dai-san-seki, I think it may be time to call it a day."

A forwards somersault! Very good! Kaen was happy about that. Not enough people saw the value of "needless acrobatics" in combat, but in many situations they could be quite useful. But what of his aerial attack as well? Well. Brock seemed to deal with that exceptionally well. The fireballs impacted the ground where Brock had been only a moment ago, leaving small smoking craters. Brock had been lucky to avoid them, with only a singed shihakusho. Kaen hopped off the stone he'd been on, ignoring the crossbow bolts that had punched into it and gave an approving nod to Manabu.
"Excellent. Yeah, no worries. You did very well today, Manabu-kun. Leave whenever you like." Kaen told him, resealing Hachiryuu back into its Kodachi state. He slid the blade into the sheath on his back and smiled at Brock. "Alright. Well, I'm heading out. Good job today, Manabu-kun and I'm sure I'll be seeing you around. Have a good day." He told the officer as he strode on out of the training grounds without another word.
