Oh, right, the ramen. He'd forgotten about that for a moment, forgotten how long he'd been carrying on for, too focused on stressing that he shouldn't be considered an example of anything quincy when the power he'd been drawing on was not his own. The rant had clearly been draining,as the young man had been visibly less energetic afterwards. I need a better way to communicate my situation. He really did, at least if he was going to keep doing what he'd been doing. Even so, it would have been worse to let him carry that assumption forward from tonight. He needed to keep telling himself that for his own safety and everyone else's, he'd been harmed by that particular misunderstanding already and it wouldn't be right to drag amyome else into the consequences next time that happened.
"Thank you again." Akio let Laurent take the lead in choosing a table and sat across from the man once they had. When it came time to order, he chose a relatively plain shoyu ramen with an extra egg as a topping. Nothing was quite like something basic done exceptionally well, after all. In the time after their orders had been placed but the ramen had not actually arrived yet, he made another attempt at conversation. "You said that handling hollows was your goal. Were you just in the area earlier, or do you spend time seeking them out?" He knew he shouldn't pry into the business of others, but Akio would still feel more comfortable if he learned just a bit more without giving away how poorly informed he was beyond the broad strokes that he inhabited a world of gods and monsters, one ruled by science, faith, and sorcery.
