After speaking with Maezo, Shawn would notice his next opponent walk up to the field, of course it had to be the girl who raised her hand. When she finally got into place she accepted her blindfold if not a little lazily, she really got on his nerves, not taking this seriously. Luckily Shawn already knew what he was going to throw at her, if only because of her question earlier and her attitude now. Good thing he already knew what he was going to do, before long without realizing, he was already blindfolded and Billy Ray was counting down from three.
The moment he hit one, Shawn would instinctively create an orb before immediately forming it into a needle. He would then toss this needle at her with all his might, waiting for the match to be called or for something to hit him. When it was over he would pull down his blindfold, if he won he would grin, saying to her “Good match” before finding his spot for the next match. If he lost he would instead say “Well played” and go and find Maezo to watch the last match with him.

When Shawn's blindfold was removed, he would see that the other student and him had both thrown needle. The two needles had formed an X where they had hit each other and had fallen to the ground. One of the needles was much stronger than the other, which Shawn would recognize as his own craftmanship. The other girl's needle was less refined and rougher, but it was still a needle. They had tied. Billy Ray walked over, stepped on the needles on the ground to crush them into raw reiatsu and disperse them, then stepped back. "You tied. Reset and try again." Now Shawn had to make a decision. He had to determine, quickly, whether his opponent would throw Needle again, would throw Orb, or would form the Bakudo. Knowing what he knew about this particular student, what would be his best option?

This is going to be difficult, Shawn knows a way to win but it comes down to whether or not she falls for the bluff, regardless he knows he has to try. "Ok, Sir!" he responds to Billy Ray telling them to reset and try again, I can do this, just believe in yourself! Putting the blindfold back over his eyes he begins to mumble the incantation for Seki under his breath, "Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then seize your own throat!", trying to be loud enough for his opponent to hear but not so loud as to make it look as if he is baiting her. The moment the countdown reaches one again he throws an orb, even though he said the incantation he decides to throw an orb instead. Knowing this could ever work perfectly or make him fail spectacularly, he takes those odds.
The moment the match ends he will pull his blindfold down, seeing if his ruse worked or not. If he succeeded he would walk over to her and thank her for a good match, saying "I honestly wasn't sure if I would win that." Saying that he would than take his place and wait for the next match, If he failed he would walk up to her and say "It was a good match, I wasn't sure if my plan would work and in the end you looked right through it, good luck on the next match." Finishing wishing her luck he would then find Maezo to watch the last match with.

The class stared in shock as Shawn's opponent prepared to throw an orb, and was just about to do so when she heard the incantation and got a sly smile on her face. She compressed the orb into a needle haphazardly and threw it towards what she thought was going to be a shield of Seki. When the blindfolds were removed, her face scrunched up in anger as she saw that he had instead thrown Orb and tricked her. He had conquered the second round of the tournament and was headed to the finals. Billy Ray walked up with a smile on his face and clapped Shawn on the back. "Nice play there, son." The instructor then stepped aside and let the final opponent walk up to the yard. A tall, imposing student with large muscles and a skull and crossbones on his very not-standard-issue t-shirt, Shawn's opponent said nothing as he accepted his blindfold and tied it around his face early. He wasn't going to let Shawn have any clues as to what he was going to throw...

He managed to claim yet another victory, but his next opponent proved to be a daunting and difficult foe. The last tactic wasn’t going to cut it, this time however he had time on his side. Understanding at this point not saying the incantation makes it easy to tie if not beat him, so he would have to apply the same tactic an additional time. Waiting for the countdown to begin he will quickly speak the incantation, knowing the opponent wouldn’t know what he would do as he played the same trick last match. “Disintegrate, you black dog of Rondanini! Look upon yourself with horror and then seize your own throat!” Upon finishing the incantation he would quickly create a needle to chuck at the person he is facing. They might not expect him to throw such a risky attack, but only time will tell.
If his plan works, he would thank his opponent for the match before finding Maezo, when he finds him he would high five him saying “I honestly wasn’t sure if I could pull it off and win all the matches.” If he failed he would instead congratulate the man in front of him, after which he would go to Maezo and high five him saying “Honestly, even though I didn’t win them all it was still fun.”

When Shawn's blindfold was removed, he'd see an Orb had beaten his Needle. His feint had not worked that time. Everyone around looked fairly shocked, though, as if they were surprised by what they had seen the pair of students do. There was whispering in the crowd that Shawn would definitely not be able to make out the exact words of, but he could tell that they were saying something quietly to each other. What had this tall student done to surprise them so? Regardless, it appeared as if Shawn had lost. When they looked for Billy Ray to confirm the tournament results, they couldn't find him. He had seemingly vanished into thin air. Someone mentioned out loud that they couldn't see where he went and the tall student just cocked his head in confusion. "He's right there..."
Pointing in a direction where no one at all appeared to be standing, the crowd looked confused again before Billy Ray suddenly was standing there, appearing in a shimmering of light like a mirage becoming solid. "Ýmir, you cheat. Two marks deducted from your score for this class. Even though you're blind doesn't mean you can use your super senses to read people's minds..." Ýmir shrugged and moved over to the side of the yard, forgetting that his blindfold was still on. When Shawn went over to Maezo, the boy would explain what happened. "That was like nothing I'd ever seen before, Shawn! He threw raw reiatsu that formed an orb to beat your needle in midair! But if he's disqualified... That means you won! Wow!"
Billy Ray moved over to the rest of the class, explaining that he had disappeared using a mid-level Bakudo that was too advanced for their studies at the moment as bait for the blind student who would be able to "see" through it with his strong Energy Sensory skills that had matched Shawn's rock paper scissors throw and temporarily made it look like he won. He had suspected Ýmir had been cheating before, but hadn't been able to watch close enough to prove it when there were multiple matches going on. The instructor moved over to Shawn and Maezo though and nodded towards the winner of the tournament. "That's five marks for you, Shawn, guaranteed. I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow for more study."
And with that, Kidou 101 ended for the day. Zanjutsu 101 was next.

Five Marks! I can't believe it, I actually managed to win! Thoughts like these flooded Shawn's Mind as he listened to Billy Ray congragulate him, he was a little dissapointed on the final match but excited non the less. This would be the easy class however as Shawn knew he would have an easier time with using his own reiatsu then relying on his physical body, not to say he was incapable, just not a genius. Looking at Maezo he asks "You got Zanjutsu 101 next? I know i'm going to be struggling in it."
Listening to Maezo's response, Shawn begins to make his way to his next class, taking his time to relax before the struggle begins. Arriving at the location, Shawn will find a place to sit and if Maezo was also in this class he would stay close to him, after all, Maezo clearly knew how to physically fight better than him. Sitting down Shawn would close his eye's and focus on his siblings and on his faith, reminding himself why he had to do his best, doing this to prepare his mind for the class ahead.

Maezo frowned. "Sorry, no, I have History 101 next. It doesn't look like we're in the same Zanjutsu class this year. I can help you study outside of class though. While swords aren't my best skill, I'm still pretty handy at physical combat as you saw before. See you around!" They went their separate ways, Maezo headed for History and Shawn heading for Zanjutsu which he didn't appear psyched for.
Shawn's Zanjutsu instructor was prompt, showing up to class just ten seconds before the bell rang to begin the hour's instruction. He was a tall, olive skinned man with massive muscles. His muscles were so big that his sleeves had torn from him flexing sometime in the past. He walked in with his sleeveless outfit with the frayed edges and surveyed the room. His eyes barely glanced over Shawn, but didn't seem to settle on any one person in particular. When he reached the mat at the center of the room that was obviously designed for training he settled his eyes on a Hopeful that was talking to another classmate. "Student!" The rest of the room's murmuring and talking quieted down pretty quickly as the Hopeful turned in his seat to face the front of the class and the instructor.
"The bell rang seven seconds ago. That means you are to be silent and awaiting instruction. Is that clear?" The embarrassed Hopeful nodded and hung his head. That was how the instructor wanted it to be. He wanted it to be a militaristic classroom. One lead by fear, respect, and hard work. The instructor drew his Zanpakutou from its completely unnecessary sheathe behind his back and ran his finger down the edge of the blade that wasn't sharp. "As a Shinigami, weapons are your first line of defense between you and a Hollow attack. The Asauchi you forge in your Third year of this Academy will be a piece of your soul. It will be an extension of you, it will protect you if you wield it appropriately. Zanjutsu is crucial, hence why we teach it four out of five years of your time here. For now we will work with wooden training swords. In your later years, this will be replaced by actual Asauchi."
"For now, come and select a training weapon. I want you to feel its weight and carry it with you all week. If you are caught without it, I will deduct a Mark from your Grades for the year for each occurrence." Shawn would find a series of racks with various sized weapons. There were a couple non-swords, such as a spear and a halberd, but most of them were various shapes of sword. From small daggers up to really impressive greatswords. There were enough that the entire class could have had the same weapon if they wanted to, given the class was again pretty small with just 8 students. Shawn would have pick of anything he desired. Anything that spoke to him.

Hearing Maezo was heading to a different class Shawn was a little disappointed, after all, he knew this was going to be a tough class for him. Heading to the place the class is located he sits down, relaxing until it is time to begin class. The instructor arrived and shortly after the bell went off letting everyone know it was time to begin, everyone understood that except one student apparently. Everybody went completely silent as the instructor scolded the student, getting them to nod in understatement. The teacher would then turn his attention to the full class, telling them how important their Asuachi are going to be, then explaining they must pick a weapon that suits them from the weapons on the racks.
Walking over to the weapons, Shawn looks them over, passing over the big heavy weapons for smaller thinner blades. His eyes will then fall upon a sword he is familiar with, the Jian sword, a blade his master taught him how to wield. Picking it up he looks it over and weighs it in his hands, after determining it is correct he walks back over to his seat, awaiting further instructions from the teacher.

Opting for a short, light blade with no guard, Shawn made a wise decision given his physical abilities. Or rather his lack thereof. Sitting down without a word, the instructor looked him over and studied his physique. Shawn, to this man, was going to be a tough student to shape into a Shinigami. "Your name, student? You'll find that your instructor, Yngvar Kleve, will not go easy on you. Let's see you use that short blade right now." Gesturing over to a student who had picked a long, slender wooden liuyedao that was a fair bit longer than Shawn's jian, Yngvar instructed him to get up and spar Shawn right there and then. Both being Chinese weapons in particular made for an interesting match up. The liuyedao was a more mass produced, infantry weapon, while the jian was a more outdated self-defense and ornamental weapon for most of history.
The saber wielding student got up and made his way to the mat, holding the saber out in a ready stance. He looked pretty confident in his handling of the weapon, like he'd used one before, and waited for Shawn to get ready before making any movements.

The instructor seemed to notice his decision, after Shawn sat down the instructor came over to him and asked his name, "Shawn Rabuburedo sir, I would never want you to go easy on me as I wish to become the best I possibly can." Giving his name to the instructor Yngvar Kleve and mentioning about getting better he seemed to want to test Shawn immediately. Pointing over to Shawn's soon to be opponent, the student had picked a longer type of sword than Shawn, one that seemed familiar to Shawn.
Moving over to the sparring mat, his opponent seemed as familiar with his weapon as Shawn felt with the Jian sword, This is going to be a tough match. Standing with his weapon out in front of him for his stance the opponent waited for Shawn, grasping his wooden sword hilt with both hands Shawn lowered hi body holding the blade up to be at eye level next to his head on the right side. Debating on if he should make a move first or wait, knowing he wouldn't have much time so it was time to act.
Moving forward as quickly as he could (which wasn't that fast) he remained low trying to avoid having to much undefended mass. Getting within five feet Shawn try's to attempt a faint looking like he was aiming to slash his opponents body from right to left. from the faint he would begin pulling the sword back towards him when it's about one foot from striking the body. Pulling it back he would quickly transition into a stab which is what this weapon was best at, keeping it as straight as possible to ensure he had the ability to still defend with it if needed.

Shawn impressed Yngvar by not shying away from the fight despite his pale complexion and weak appearance. He ran towards his opponent, albeit slowly, and went for a slash feint into a stab. The other student brought his saber up and attempted to flick the jian away. He soon found that Shawn was not physically strong as their blades clashed. The student was average in speed and strength for a first year student, so he was surprised to find that Shawn's attack would go flying wide as the wooden blades clashed. He didn't take advantage of this opening, instead retreating backwards a step expecting some sort of trick. After bouncing back a little ways, the student opened his mouth to taunt Shawn and lunged forwards. "Kang Feng will defeat you, Shawn Rabuburēdo!"
Feng lunged at Shawn with average speed, thrusting his longer blade towards Shawn's neck. As this was a classroom spar, not an actual fight, the blade was not intended to follow through with the attack. If Shawn didn't move or otherwise deal with the blade, it would poke him in the jugular, causing a fair bit of pain as blood flow through an important artery was suddenly suppressed for a moment. Feng knew his anatomy very well, and knew exactly where to attack to cause more pain than usual even while pulling his "punches".
Post by Shawn Rabuburēdo on Apr 11, 2021 14:56:48 GMT -5
Shawn's blade was smacked far away due to his low strength, this however was not what the other student expected as they quickly backed of instead of taking that opportunity to strike. That could have went horribly, but I already knew that, now what to do? While Shawn was thinking his opponent threw out a very simple taunt at him as if he believed Shawn had no ability to defend therefore no possible chance of winning before he lunged forward at Shawn thrusting his blade at Shawn's throat.
Thanks to the years of training with his master Shawn prepared to deal with this with footwork that was hammered into him by said master, footwork derived from Kyusho Jitsu. Turning his body while twisting his feet shifted him in just the right position so that the blade would just barely miss if only because he was to slow to make the distance of the miss any greater. During the same movement Shawn will also bring his blade up and sideways to smack the wrist of Kang Feng, again using more of his knowledge of Kyusho Jitsu than his skills with the Jian blade but this is the reason he learned how to use this specific weapon, this way he can combine both his skills to create a style fitting him. If he manages to smack Kang Feng's wrist he would then move the wooden Jian blade forward, doing a thrust of his own into his opponents gut or at least trying to.
Post by Kyomei Kuchiki on Sept 15, 2021 21:45:45 GMT -5
Shawn slid to the side out of the way of Kang Feng's blade, throwing his sword arm up to try and smack Kang Feng's wrist. Having committed to his "pulled punch" there wasn't enough time or space to pull his arm away or avoid the attack, but even as his wrist was slapped away the student was ready to adjust. Shawn wasn't quick, nor strong, but a slap on the wrist with a wooden blade still wasn't comfortable. Kang Feng felt his wrist get pushed aside, but as Shawn moved to follow up he pushed off his toes to bend his abdomen backwards and dodge the thrust.
Having effectively jumped backwards with a little more control over his footwork, Kang Feng followed up with another precise attack. He regained balance and brought his sword arm back into a defensive stance, followed by pouncing forwards and thrusting the raised blade at Shawn's sword arm shoulder trying to inflict heightened pain to cause Shawn to drop the jian. In the controlled stance, Kang Feng kept a close watch on Shawn's movements to prevent another slap on the wrist. How that would work out for him remained to be seen, but he could see out of the corner of his eye a disapproving look from Yngvar.
"A point for Shawn, continue!"

So far Shawn's attacks were working out, he managed to slap his opponents wrist away, avoiding being hit by that strike. His follow up however was not going as smoothly, Kang essentially sucked in his gut while pivoting backwards on his toes, thus successfully dodging Shawn's thrust. To make matters worse the momentum created by this dodge was then put into a thrust aimed at Shawn's shoulder, if anything was obvious by this point it was that Shawn was not fast. While this flurry of movements and strikes happened Shawn heard the teacher shout that he managed to get a point.
With this attack incoming Shawn's mind was racing, after all he knew there was no way he could pull off some fancy footwork to avoid the thrust, in fact he wouldn't even be able to slap the attack away due to his slow reflexes. Then an idea popped into his mind, if he can't move to the side or deflect the attack to keep from being struck then he would lessen the damage and move swiftly into his own strike. Watching as the wooden blade close in on his sword wielding shoulder, Shawn began to tip backwards, just as the weapon was about to touch he started to fall backwards completely. Sadly this would not allow him to dodge the attack, in fact he felt as the wooden swords tip rubbed against the clothing covering his shoulder, causing some pain but nothing to serious.
As Shawn fell backwards he would transition into a backwards roll upon touching the ground, thus creating both momentum and giving him the chance to surprise his opponent as he went for another thrust after rolling to his feet and staying low. The thrust this time would be aimed at Kang's left foot, after all if he wanted to play dirty then he couldn't complain if Shawn tried to slow Kang's reflex's down by causing some pain to his foot.
