Ranth watched quietly as Rin took on a faraway look that he mistook for intense concentration. It was impressive really, to be able to distance oneself mentally was one of the key steps towards achieving better control over the flow of reiatsu. He'd read dozens of analogies that attempted to try and assist with the visualisation of how to handle it over the years. A raging river, a still pond, an endless abyss, an empty void, a flickering candle, a raging inferno, a calm autumn day or even a stormy night at sea. All Ranth had learned from these readings was that there was no guarantee that the same approach would work for any two people. The one thing that remained constant however was that one needed to understand oneself.
That did not, however, mean that someone who mastered the inner flow of reiatsu would fit the stereotype of a Buddhist monk who had reached nirvana. On the contrary, understanding oneself did not mean they had to conform to any single ideal or way of behaving. Reiatsu control did not equate to emotional stability after all, or else every shinigami who practiced Kido would be perfectly adjusted and ideal for leadership when the truth was- sadly- almost always the opposite. In Ranth's case, he had achieved his mastery over his inner reiatsu through his physical training. He understood his body on a level that few could claim to match and he had found a surprising synergy between the two disciplines.
As he thought about that, he couldn't help but focus his attention inwards as he swelled his reiatsu. Not in the way that someone did when they were looking to intimidate an opponent or draw attention to themselves, but rather in a way that made him feel like a river whose current was swelling almost to the point of flooding. It was a difficult sensation to describe, but it was probably best described as standing on the edge of a precipice and if he was to take even a single step forwards then he would be steeped in the greatest kind of pleasure, but at the same time knowing that the consequences for doing so would be nothing short of dire. This was the principle behind the technique that he'd been theory crafting and with each passing day he grew more and more certain that he could turn it into something wonderful.
“You know..”
Ranth's concentration was shattered as Ranth's voice steamrolled into the forefront of his mind and the reiatsu he'd been holding slipped away in an instant, leaving him feeling momentarily hollow as he blinked three times and focused his eyes on Rin as she bashfully admitted that she was struggling and was requesting further assistance. In the face of such innocence, only a monster could have refused such a request. Never mind the fact that the way Rin phrased it tugged sinfully at the corner of his mind, it was his responsibility to remain calm and composed as he fulfilled his responsibilities as he instructor. Calm and composed. No problem. Calm and composed. He was super calm and super composed. No problem at all... Oh god he hoped his hands weren't hot or cold or clammy or sweaty.
Surreptitiously wiping his hands on his robes as he took a step towards her and then lowered himself into a cross legged sitting position, Ranth gestured for Rin to sit opposite him and held his hands out palms up towards her. "T-", he stammered so hard that he had to forcibly clear his throat to cover up his slip before trying again to speak words that once he never would have dreamed of saying aloud. "Take my hands and relax", he instructed and once she'd done so and Ranth was able to steady his own thoughts he took a deep breath and let a trickle of his reiatsu cross from his hands into Rin's.
Rin would feel an uncomfortable at first as the foreign body that was Ranth's reiatsu entered her body. Sensing her discomfort, Ranth could only reassure her as best he could, he couldn't believe how tight it was trying to squeeze his reiatsu through. "Hang in there Empress, you'll get used to it soon", he said as he gave her a light squeeze and pushed his reitasu deeper. From Rin's perspective, the initial discomfort would slowly but steadily diminish and be replaced by a tingling warmth that slowly spread from the tips of her fingers all the way down to her toes. Once Ranth was sure that Rin had become accustomed to having him inside her, he let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding and instructed her to try again. "When you're ready, try again. I'll help when you need it, but I'll leave most of the work to you". After all, it wouldn't be a learning exercise if he did it for her now would it?
